[Bug 1775717] Re: CPU/GPU Fans suddenly go 100% RPM on Asus ROG G752VT

2018-10-31 Thread Babu
I am also facing the same problem on my Asus laptop. In my case i was on
14.04 LTS then upgraded to 16.04 LTS and from there again upgraded to
18.04 LTS. On 14.04 everything ran very smoothly. I installed tlp,
lm_sensors. But to no avail. The fan starts full throttle right away
even when the CPU temperature is 42,43,44 °C. The laptop runs normally
there is no overheating but somehow the fans are kicked in full
throttle. I also did sensor-detect. The apport-collect 1775717 command
gives me an error though I have a Ubuntu one account as well. It says

[Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen

2018-10-31 Thread Bogdan Radu
I still see this as well. I also notice that when hovering over the bar
after this starts happening, it resizes by a few px.

It also results in things like remmina no longer populating it OR the
top bar with its icons.

I do have gnome-tweaks installed, and seems that the resizing issue goes
away when I start it up and change the hinting mode.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that you were installing the LTS version of
Ubuntu using an older version of the installation media. The latest
point release of 14.04 is 14.04.5. Please try installing from that
version of the installation media and see if that resolves your issue.
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1800901] Re: Updating breaks wifi on Intel Compute Stick

2018-10-31 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1800901/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

2018-10-31 Thread Khaled El Mously
The commit "c714676a1 proc: restrict kernel stack dumps to root" (part
of the update to linux-stable 4.4.160) has changed the permissions of
/proc/self/stack to be root- and CAP_SYS_ADMIN-only which is causing
test_095_kernel_symbols_missing_proc_self_stack to fail

[Bug 1800899] Re: Line out and headphones audio output keep swithing causing crackles in sound

Please try:

1. Booting Ubuntu 18.10 on the machine to see if this bug is already fixed:
   http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.10/

2. A different set of headphones.

3. Other audio output methods like the built-in speakers or Bluetooth.

Do any of those help?

[Bug 1800809] Re: login screen is huge

2018-10-31 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like you have zoom enabled. Unfortunately other bugs make it
difficult to disable.

On the login screen:

1. Click on the person icon near the top-right (the accessibility menu).

2. Select the second option in the menu that appears (but may appear
partially missing). That is the "Zoom" option.

[Bug 210472] Re: Timidity daemon doesn't play nice with pulse audio

2018-10-31 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Hmm, yes the recent duplicates of this bug seem to be from 18.10. So
there may be a regression in 18.10, or it might just be because the main
person answering bug reports only learnt about this timidity issue this
week.

I've only had time to link 18.10 bug reports to this one so far.
Certainly the symptoms are very common so I would expect to find 18.04
bug reports too. I'll need more time to be sure.

[Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time

2018-10-31 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This bug is fixed in Ubuntu 18.10, but beware 18.10 also brings a new
separate leak: bug 1800165.

This bug is not yet fixed in Ubuntu 18.04 because the fix for this one
also causes a performance regression in 18.10 that we don't want to
repeat in 18.04:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gjs/merge_requests/236

We will need to backport that fix as part of the fix here so the
performance regression is never seen in 18.04. However, technically we
are required to get the performance fix into 18.10 before we can proceed
with 18.04 here. :S

2018-10-31 Thread jimlovell777
apport information

** Package changed: software-properties (Ubuntu) => gnome-control-center

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic

** Description changed:

On a fresh install from at least Ubuntu 17.04 up to 18.10, when I change
Settings->Dock->Show on to a specific monitor on a dual monitor setup,
this setting gets flipped if I change the primary display in
  Settings->Devices->Displays->Primary Display.

For Example I have Monitor A and Monitor B
After a fresh install Monitor A is primary with title bar, clock, etc. and
the dock. If I change the dock to Show on Monitor B it moves as desired. But
when I change Primary Display to Monitor B also, the dock immediately goes to
Monitor A again. When I check the Show on setting it still displays Monitor B
but it's actually on Monitor A. Selecting Monitor A will move the dock to
Monitor B.

[Bug 1800965] [NEW] Browsers don't display Devanagari script correctly

2018-10-31 Thread उज्ज्वल राजपूत
Public bug reported:

In the file /etc/fonts/conf.avail/65-nonlatin.conf the "Raghindi" font family
is specified for devanagari script in Serif and Sans-serif style while "Lohit
Hindi" in monospace. On the other hand, the Raghindi font is not installed by
default. Because of this, the web browsers including Chrome and Firefox don't
display the script correctly. A lot of people struggle to correct it by
manually changing the settings in the browsers and partially succeed.
The problem can be completely solved by replacing "Raghindi" in
/etc/fonts/conf.avail/65-nonlatin.conf with "Lohit Hindi" or any other
pre-installed font.

Just happened again, though the machine wouldn't reboot at all

[Bug 1800963] [NEW] Changing Primary DIsplay Flips Which Display Has The Dock

2018-10-31 Thread jimlovell777
Public bug reported:

On a fresh install from at least Ubuntu 17.04 up to 18.10, when I change
Settings->Dock->Show on to a specific monitor on a dual monitor setup,
this setting gets flipped if I change the primary display in
Settings->Devices->Displays->Primary Display.

For Example I have Monitor A and Monitor B
After a fresh install Monitor A is primary with title bar, clock, etc. and the
dock. If I change the dock to Show on Monitor B it moves as desired. But when I
change Primary Display to Monitor B also, the dock immediately goes to Monitor
A again. When I check the Show on setting it still displays Monitor B but it's
actually on Monitor A. Selecting Monitor A will move the dock to Monitor B.

[Bug 1745185] Re: If apt-get upgrade is run on mysql server when the server is disabled, the upgrade fails.

2018-10-31 Thread Robie Basak
The Xenial failure sounds very much like bug 1592669, which looks like
it was fixed post-Xenial and hasn't had a fix backported (it's somewhat
invasive but probably SRU-able if done with care).

[Bug 1785964] Re: Unable to unlock the desktop session: systemd-logind: got pause for 13:69

2018-10-31 Thread GrzesiekC
Well you can disregard #14, happened again.

However, I notice one more thing, which my be helpful to troubleshoot
the issue. In may case, it usually happens when I switch IP networks
(wireless>wireless, wireless>wire, wire>wireless, etc).

Here is an example:
I can stay the whole weekend in my home, connected to my SSID. Many locks and
unlocks, suspends and resumes. The problem won't appear.
Then Monday morning, I go to my office, reconnect to another AP IP network and
the the issue appears.

To support this theory. Today, for many hours, I have not had any issues. I.e.
many locks and unlocks. Then I had to connect my printer over a new external
wireless bridge.
At some point, in order to configure the bridge, I had to connect laptop's wire
LAN port to the bridge and disconnect from my WiFi. When I finished
configuring, I disconnected the bridge from the laptop and went to my printer.
During that time, my computer locked itself and wasn't connected to any network
(i.e. neither wired nor wireless). When I came back I was unable to unlock
(i.e. after providing the password, freeze for many minutes).

https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-
team/mysql/commit/7fae702b6c3b6347008ec9b73a92cba6804111bc is a possible
fix but I think there might be other commits needed as well.
