[Bug 1803667] [NEW] new requirement for Automatic Installation
Public bug reported: Some linux distributions(such as SLES and redhat) support to scan CD/DVD to get the answers file for automatic Installation and there is no need to change offical ISO. [Bug 1770206] Re: virt-install does not work with --os-variant ubuntu18.04
@SRU Team - I pinged in #ubuntu-release already, but for safety let me write it here as well. By accident I uplaoded this to B-unapproved already - But I want people (and myself) to test this from the PPA first. So please cancel the current upload in B-unapproved. I'll state here on the bug once I do an intended upload, sorry for the hazzle. ** Description changed: + [Impact] + + * An explanation of the effects of the bug on users and + + * justification for backporting the fix to the stable release. + + * In addition, it is helpful, but not required, to include an +explanation of how the upload fixes this bug. + + [Test Case] + + * B) install a Ubuntu 18.04 ISO in virt-manager +While doing so try to select the OS version as 18.04 (or newer) + + [Regression Potential] + + * People will see and might not expect some changes. For example it was +found and fixed that the minimum size of Ubuntu Images was too small +(bug 1796037). Now if somebody did not have these issues his 16.04 +guest default size will still change. But since it fixes issues it is a +change we want. Most people specify RAM explicitly anyway as in non API +use cases it is mandatory. +In a similar way, this contains many data updates and if any of them +might be wrong there might be issues. I read through the updates and +they all looked sane to me, but in terms of regression potential this +is the biggest potential threat to me. + + [Other Info] + + * n/a + Works: # virt-install --os-variant ubuntu16.04 ...other params... [Bug 1796037] Re: [QEMU] When loading partman step, GNOME Shell vanishes, no more decoration and installer UI frozen

OK, before working on your to do list . Yesterday with an update (Start-Date:2018-11-15 13:49:41) on this linux box there where ...libegl-mesa0... in the list of modules. There where no indication of restart required but I reboot the system and the graphic was frozen. See picture attached. There was no possibility to use the mouse or the keyboard to get out of this state. But with ssh I can connect in. You will find also the file var_log_apt_history.log where you find the re-installation of the ubuntu-gnome-desktop (Start-Date: 2018-11-14 11:49:00) which results in recover the screen graphic. ** Attachment added: "Frozen screen, no mouse or keyboard action posible" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1803504/+attachment/5213349/+files/IMG_20181116_070043.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803504 Title: Screen stops redrawing sometimes when moving windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1803504/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1770206] Re: virt-install does not work with --os-variant ubuntu18.04
If we are trying to document alternatives here: 1. the type is not needed to get 18.04. I never understood why people use virt-install so much. If one insist on installing ISO just install any from [1] or similar, you don't need the type for that at all - any Ubuntu (or even other Linux) type will work. 2. If "needs to get Ubuntu 18.04 on a KVM" is the only target here, there are many way better ways than virt-install anyway - I wonder why these days this is still used so much. 2.1 uvtool # only needed once $ uvt-simplestreams-libvirt sync --source http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/daily arch=amd64 release=bionic label=daily # get a new guest $ uvt-kvm create bionic1 arch=amd64 release=bionic label=daily 2.2 multipass $ sudo snap install --beta multipass --classic $ multipass launch daily:18.04 There are probably much more, but those are much more comfortable getting an image of the day running within a guest. P.S. even thou I don't see a reason to fix this with priority I get from the reports that others want/need it - and I'm certainly not alone, so lets bump the prio a bit for all of you that like the way based on osinfo-db entries. [Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen
Looking at the gnome-shell JS code referenced by the stack trace, it appears it is indeed disabling extensions when locking the screen. The screenShield.js code handles the lock screen, and pushes and pops a "session mode" of "lock-screen". In sessioMode.js, the "lock-screen" mode is defined with allowExtensions=false. Finally, extensionSystem.js watches session mode changes and calls the various extension enable/disable callbacks as needed. So somehow ubuntu-dock has a stale window in Transparency._trackedWindows that triggers an exception while trying to disable the dock when locking the screen. It fails to fully disable the dock, so it displays over the top of the lock screen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1769383 Title: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1769383/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen
The above stack trace seems to be tied to this other message: Nov 16 11:41:38 scruffy gnome-shell[5626]: Object Meta.WindowActor (0x560d5092bb00), has been already deallocated — impossible to access it. This might be caused by the object having been destroyed from C code using something such as destroy(), dispose(), or remove() vfuncs. The error seems to be on the disconnect() call in Transparency.disable(): for (let key of this._trackedWindows.keys()) this._trackedWindows.get(key).forEach(id => { key.disconnect(id); }); this._trackedWindows.clear(); Presumably the remainder of the clean-up performed by this function and its callers is not performed, leaving the shell in an inconsistent state. [Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen
I noticed this behaviour on my Ubuntu 18.10 system. It is running the Wayland session, and I only have the ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com and ubuntu- appindicat...@ubuntu.com extensions installed (i.e. no upstream dash-to- dock). I looked in the journal and found the attached GJS stack trace, which seems to be triggered by the disable() call. I haven't been manually enabling/disabling extensions, so don't know why the code path would have been triggered. It might mean some crud was left behind though. ** Attachment added: "stacktrace.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1769383/+attachment/5213307/+files/stacktrace.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1769383 Title: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1769383/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1776616] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power-Off"
I tried the bisect procedure, but failed to build a kernel. First, the provided link won't work: git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git This repo only contains major releases. To get minor releases, this link is necessary: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git In the step "make localmodconfig", I accepted all the default config values, because I'm assuming that is what produces the published kernels. When I attempted to build the kernel, I got the following: guyr@tosh:/data/ubuntu_mainline_kernel/linux-minor$ make -j2 deb-pkg arch/x86/Makefile:133: stack-protector enabled but compiler support broken Makefile:666: Cannot use CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_STRONG: -fstack-protector-strong not supported by compiler CHK include/config/kernel.release UPD include/config/kernel.release make clean TAR linux-4.5.0.tar.gz make KBUILD_SRC= arch/x86/Makefile:133: stack-protector enabled but compiler support broken Makefile:666: Cannot use CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_STRONG: -fstack-protector-strong not supported by compiler SYSTBL arch/x86/entry/syscalls/../../include/generated/asm/syscalls_32.h HOSTCC scripts/basic/fixdep HOSTCC scripts/basic/bin2c SYSHDR arch/x86/entry/syscalls/../../include/generated/asm/unistd_32_ia32.h SYSHDR arch/x86/entry/syscalls/../../include/generated/asm/unistd_64_x32.h SYSTBL arch/x86/entry/syscalls/../../include/generated/asm/syscalls_64.h HYPERCALLS arch/x86/entry/syscalls/../../include/generated/asm/xen-hypercalls.h SYSHDR arch/x86/entry/syscalls/../../include/generated/uapi/asm/unistd_32.h CHK include/config/kernel.release WRAParch/x86/include/generated/asm/clkdev.h WRAParch/x86/include/generated/asm/cputime.h WRAParch/x86/include/generated/asm/dma-contiguous.h WRAParch/x86/include/generated/asm/early_ioremap.h WRAParch/x86/include/generated/asm/mcs_spinlock.h WRAParch/x86/include/generated/asm/mm-arch-hooks.h CHK include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h UPD include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h CHK include/generated/utsrelease.h UPD include/generated/utsrelease.h CC scripts/mod/empty.o cc1: error: code model kernel does not support PIC mode SYSHDR arch/x86/entry/syscalls/../../include/generated/uapi/asm/unistd_64.h scripts/Makefile.build:258: recipe for target 'scripts/mod/empty.o' failed make[4]: *** [scripts/mod/empty.o] Error 1 scripts/Makefile.build:407: recipe for target 'scripts/mod' failed make[3]: *** [scripts/mod] Error 2 Makefile:551: recipe for target 'scripts' failed make[2]: *** [scripts] Error 2 make[2]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs SYSHDR arch/x86/entry/syscalls/../../include/generated/uapi/asm/unistd_x32.h scripts/package/Makefile:91: recipe for target 'deb-pkg' failed make[1]: *** [deb-pkg] Error 2 Makefile:1238: recipe for target 'deb-pkg' failed make: *** [deb-pkg] Error 2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776616 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power- Off" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1776616/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1803628] Re: jtreg fails to run under openjdk-8 due to api incompatibility with openjdk-9 or later
** Description changed: [Impact] - - openjdk-9 introduced a few api changes that result in runtime errors - when trying to run the java classes under openjdk 8 (or earlier) even - when -source/-target are properly set. + openjdk-9 introduced a few api changes that result in runtime errors when trying to run the java classes under openjdk 8 (or earlier) even when -source/-target are properly set. The fix is to build such code using the new openjdk-9 flag "--release" instead of the "-source/-target" pair. When running Cosmic's jtreg 4.2-b13-1 with agentvm under openjdk-8 it will fail and output a few lines such as: stderr: Exception: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError thrown from the UncaughtExceptionHandler in thread "main" The java.lang.NoSuchMethodError is actually caused by "java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: java.nio.ByteBuffer.flip()Ljava/nio/ByteBuffer" which can be easily solved by building jtreg with the "--release 7" argument. + This affects the openjdk-8 build in Cosmic as the jtreg testsuites are + run as part of the build. We use the test results for checking + regressions from an update. [Test Case] For this test case we need to create an empty TEST.ROOT file and a test class to satisfy jtreg requirements of a minimum test. jtreg must also be forced to use openjdk-8. $ sudo apt install openjdk-8-jdk jtreg $ touch TEST.ROOT $ cat > Hello.java << EOF /* - * @test - * @bug 2718282 - * @summary Hello test - */ + * @test + * @bug 2718282 + * @summary Hello test + */ public class Hello { - public static void main(String [] args) throws Exception { - if (true) - System.out.println("Hello World!"); - else - throw new Exception("??"); - } + public static void main(String [] args) throws Exception { + if (true) + System.out.println("Hello World!"); + else + throw new Exception("??"); + } } EOF - $ JT_JAVA=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/ jtreg -va -agentvm Hello.java - [2018-11-15 23:42:34,720] Agent[0]: stderr: + $ JT_JAVA=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/ jtreg -va -agentvm Hello.java + [2018-11-15 23:42:34,720] Agent[0]: stderr: [2018-11-15 23:42:34,721] Agent[0]: stderr: Exception: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError thrown from the UncaughtExceptionHandler in thread "main" -- TEST: Hello.java TEST JDK: /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64 [snipped] Test results: error: 1 Report written to /tmp/JTreport/html/report.html Results written to /tmp/JTwork Error: Some tests failed or other problems occurred. - The expected response from jtreg does not contain the "stderr:" lines as in: - $ JT_JAVA=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/ jtreg -va -agentvm Hello.java + $ JT_JAVA=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/ jtreg -va -agentvm Hello.java -- TEST: Hello.java TEST JDK: /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64 [snipped] Test results: passed: 1 Report written to /tmp/JTreport/html/report.html Results written to /tmp/JTwork Alternatively one can also check that openjdk-lts is not affected by the change, it should output the same before and after the fix: $ sudo apt install openjdk-11-jdk - $ JT_JAVA=/usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-amd64/ jtreg -va -agentvm Hello.java + $ JT_JAVA=/usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-amd64/ jtreg -va -agentvm Hello.java -- TEST: Hello.java TEST JDK: /usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-amd64 [snipped] Test results: passed: 1 Report written to /tmp/JTreport/html/report.html Results written to /tmp/JTwork - [Regression Potential] - 1. The --release argument is jdk9+ only, if jtreg is ever build with an older jdk it will FTBFS, so this change should only be backported on releases where the default-jdk is 9+. + 1. The --release argument is jdk9+ only, if jtreg is ever build with an older jdk it will FTBFS, so this change should only be backported on releases where the default-jdk is 9+. 2. The --release N argument is equivalent to setting -source N/-target N/-bootclasspath , which can cause issues if the compiled classes use APIs that have been removed or are considered internal. The current jtreg version does not rely on internal classes from jdk 8 (otherwise it would FTBFS) but if a later version does that it will probably FTBFS - note that this is very unlikely as it would mean that upstream decided to break building jtreg with newer jdks. - [Other Info] See https://github.com/apache/felix/pull/114 for a good overview on the methods that changed on OpenJDK 9 and a better description on the cause. Note that they propose patching the methods to cast ByteBuffer to Buffer when calling the affected methods, but this can be easily prevented by using the --release argument instead. -- You received this bug notification because

If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. I always end up using synaptic to correct this mess to do the updates. The output was: (Reading database ... 610531 files and directories currently installed.) [Bug 1785171] Re: Intel I219-V Ethernet Interface on Ubuntu Linux Using e1000e Driver keeps Dropping Internet Connection
I'm getting this on a desktop with Kubuntu 18.10, though it started on 18.04. A disconnect using the network applet, wait a few seconds, connect brings it back till the next disconnect. I put up with it for months assuming it was due to something in the path to my router, but have isolated it back to the desktop. I"m usually watching YouTube with firefox, but it has happened with ktorrent and zsync. There's no Windows dual boot. ethto0l -k shows tcp-segmentation-offload off. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1785171 Title: Intel I219-V Ethernet Interface on Ubuntu Linux Using e1000e Driver keeps Dropping Internet Connection To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1785171/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
