[Bug 1805344] [NEW] SRU: Fix kernel xhci hang when resume from S3

2018-11-26 Thread AaronMa
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
On some thinkpad laptops, Realtek USB3.0 Card Reader [0bda:0328] reports wrong
port status on
Cannon lake PCH USB3.1 xHCI [8086:a36d] after resume from S3, then kernel hang.

[Fix]
Restrict the USB2 resume status check in USB2 roothub to fix hang issue.

[Test Case]
Suspend/resume 30 times OK.

[Regression Potential]
Low, upstream fix cherry-picked.

These 2 patches are already Cc: sta...@vger.kernel.org, cosmic and
future kernel will get these 2 patches.

[Bug 1671951] Re: networkd should allow configuring IPV6 MTU

Regarding #2 from comment #19:

As the defined range for the ipv6.mtu is from IPV6_MIN_MTU to the
device's MTU, and the existing API returns an error if the ipv6.mtu is
out of range, I think it's reasonable for a configuration with the
ipv6.mtu > device MTU to fail.

Ah ok, thank you for the information.

Since it is an OpenVZ container, I assume my only option is to apply the
temporary solution above, then start to look for a VPS provider that
supports a more current kernel version (or one that would let me upgrade
the kernel).

Thanks again.

[Bug 1805188] Re: Installmedia; Failing boot: "ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed"

2018-11-26 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1805188/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1791427] Re: Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th

2018-11-26 Thread ALinuxUser
I have yet to play roulette with the update - I installed it, but have
not tried to enable S3 yet. As I said in am email that seems not to have
reached this page: it is unclear that this BIOS update will help; the
release notes (such as they are) do not suggest it will.

While I am here, and might have someone's ear: as I and other have said
elsewhere before: that internal beeping during BIOS updates *HAS GOT TO
STOP*. I had to swadle my ThinkPad in a blanket; and that irregular
cacophany of beeps would be of no help in diagnosing any problem. I
complained about this to the 'managed support' and in their innocence
they had no idea what I was talking about. TURN IT OFF. Really: STOP IT
NOW. It is stupid and deeply irritating and no-one seems to care.

[Bug 1804847] Re: systemd=229-4ubuntu21.8 use of fchownat failes on some systems (openvz)

2018-11-26 Thread Steve Langasek
glibc in Ubuntu 16.04 does have MIN_KERNEL_SUPPORTED := 2.6.32 in
debian/sysdeps/amd64.mk precisely to support running Ubuntu userspace on
RHEL6 kernels. This is not a supported configuration for a full booted
Ubuntu 16.04 install, because the minimum kernel version for udev itself
is higher than this (iirc, Linux 3.2) - but since this is running as a
container, udev isn't a concern.

So it seems reasonablbe to expect this not to regress as part of a
security update of systemd on Ubuntu 16.04.

[Bug 1805079] Re: click/pop noise in the headphone on several lenovo laptops

2018-11-26 Thread Hui Wang

commit c4cfcf6f4297c9256b53790bacbbbd6901fef468 (origin/for-linus)
Author: Hui Wang
Date: Mon Nov 26 14:17:16 2018 +0800

ALSA: hda/realtek - fix the pop noise on headphone for lenovo laptops

We have several Lenovo laptops with the codec alc285, when playing
sound via headphone, we can hear click/pop noise in the headphone,
if we let the headphone share the DAC of NID 0x2 with the speaker,
the noise disappears.

The Lenovo laptops here include P52, P72, X1 yoda2 and X1 carbon.

I have tried to set preferred_dacs and override_conn, but neither of
them worked. Thanks for Kailang, he told me to invalidate the NID 0x3
through override_wcaps.

** Description changed:

- These laptops all have the codec of alc285.
+ [Impact]
+ Lenovo told us that some linux uers reported headphone noise on Lenovo's
+ website. After investigating, we found those Lenovo laptop mdoels all
+ have the codec of alc285, and we can reproduce the noise problem too.

- reproduced by:
+ [Fix]
+ Don't use the DAC of headphone, let headphone share the DAC with speaker,
+ the noise disappears.

- 1. Hookup a set of headphones that you can separately place
- in/on your ears. (ie. ear buds)
+ [Test Case]
+ After applying this patch, we tested on Lenovo P52, P72, X1 carbon and X1
+ Yoda2, no noise anymore

- 2. Put only the right headphone in/on your ear.
-
- 3. Go to the Gnome sound settings and bring up the "Test
- Speakers" function
-
- 4. Play the left speaker test
-
- You would expect to hear nothing in the right ear, but instead
- you hear a "pop" at the start of each word spoken. ("pop"
- Front "pop" left). You can repeat with the left headphone and
- see similar results. I even tried shifting the balance all the
- way to the left/right and get the same results.
-
- So one problem appears to be when the headphone jack is
- initially sent audio, it causes a "pop" in the headphone jack.
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Low. This patch only apply to several lenovo machines, and after applying
+ this patch, both speaker and headphone still work very well.

That's curious. This is in the source package:

# vim:syntax=apparmor
#include

/usr/sbin/ntpd flags=(attach_disconnected) {
  #include
  #include

  # conf
  /etc/openntpd/ntpd.conf r,

  # capabilities
  capability kill,
  capability sys_chroot,
  capability setgid,
  capability setuid,
  capability sys_time,
  capability sys_nice,

  /usr/sbin/ntpd mrix,
  /var/lib/openntpd/db/ntpd.drift rw,
  /var/lib/openntpd/run/ntpd.sock rw,

}

It looks like half the change has already been integrated, but not the
systemd-journald socket.

[Bug 1805316] Re: systemd 229-4ubuntu21.9 faulty - breaks the system!

2018-11-26 Thread Tom-Oliver Heidel
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS

  systemd 229-4ubuntu21.9

  syslog file http://locoserver.net:8080/inline/14ItB1/syslog

I had to restart one of my server. This one is ovz and the only ubuntu
16 left. All my other servers are ubuntu 18 already.

  So what happened?
I restarted my server and I could ping it fine. However when I tried to
connect with ssh it immediately refused my connection. So I run nmap and indeed
all other services were running BUT ssh.

I could connect over a service console provided by the hoster. I could
not user 'service ssh rstart' because it would fail since this
'/var/run/sshd' was missing although I checked every script. The scripts
were fine. So I looked through the syslog and found something
interesting on google. There are a lot of people actually having the
same problem at least when using ovz and ubuntu 16.

Right now I try to downgrade my systemd to a previous version until a
  fix will be published.

I cannot always log in over the service console and create the file
'/var/run/sshd' by hand to manually start ssh.
+
+ There is a thread in the german ubuntu forum
+
https://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/systemd-tmpfiles-fchownat-of-run-failed-invali/
+
+ I used this to downgrade
+ curl -LO
'http://launchpadlibrarian.net/395488411/systemd_229-4ubuntu21.6_amd64.deb'
+ curl -LO
'http://launchpadlibrarian.net/395488403/libsystemd0_229-4ubuntu21.6_amd64.deb'
+ apt install ./systemd_229-4ubuntu21.6_amd64.deb

[Bug 1805316] [NEW] systemd 229-4ubuntu21.9 faulty - breaks the system!

2018-11-26 Thread Tom-Oliver Heidel
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS

systemd 229-4ubuntu21.9

syslog file http://locoserver.net:8080/inline/14ItB1/syslog

I had to restart one of my server. This one is ovz and the only ubuntu
16 left. All my other servers are ubuntu 18 already.

So what happened?
I restarted my server and I could ping it fine. However when I tried to connect
with ssh it immediately refused my connection. So I run nmap and indeed all
other services were running BUT ssh.

There is a thread in the german ubuntu forum
https://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/systemd-tmpfiles-fchownat-of-run-failed-invali/

I used this to downgrade
curl -LO
'http://launchpadlibrarian.net/395488411/systemd_229-4ubuntu21.6_amd64.deb'
curl -LO
'http://launchpadlibrarian.net/395488403/libsystemd0_229-4ubuntu21.6_amd64.deb'
apt install ./systemd_229-4ubuntu21.6_amd64.deb
./libsystemd0_229-4ubuntu21.6_amd64.deb

[Bug 1727202] Re: [17.10 regression] AppArmor ntp denial: Failed name lookup - disconnected path

2018-11-26 Thread Seth Arnold
Andrew, you could try adding:

flags=(attach_disconnected)

to the profile attachment line:

/usr/sbin/ntpd flags=(attach_disconnected) {

And add:

/run/systemd/journal/dev-log w,

to the profile, then run:

apparmor_parser --replace /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.ntpd # or whatever
the filename is

See if that lets you get useful logs, any new messages in dmesg or
auditd logs, etc.

Thanks

2018-11-26 Thread Joshua R. Poulson via ubuntu-bugs
Issue found: on L80v2 the kernel is allocating IRQs outside of NUMA0,
but all of the NVME disks on L80v2 are on NUMA0. Looking for a relevant
patch for this.

I'm also curious what filesystems are showing this issue. If you're
affected can you please run this command and include the results here?

mount | grep run

Thanks
