[Bug 1788336] Re: Failed to install nfs-kernel-server package on X/X-KVM
For the Xenial generic kernel: ubuntu@larry:~$ find /lib/modules -name 'nfsd.ko' /lib/modules/4.4.0-139-generic/kernel/fs/nfsd/nfsd.ko ubuntu@larry:~$ dpkg -S /lib/modules/4.4.0-139-generic/kernel/fs/nfsd/nfsd.ko linux-image-4.4.0-139-generic: /lib/modules/4.4.0-139-generic/kernel/fs/nfsd/nfsd.ko But for the linux-KVM kernel, it seems there is no such module there: ubuntu@larry:~$ uname -a Linux larry 4.4.0-1037-kvm #43-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 26 10:50:03 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ubuntu@larry:~$ find /lib/modules -name 'nfsd.ko' /lib/modules/4.4.0-139-generic/kernel/fs/nfsd/nfsd.ko And I have checked the kernel config for Xenial/Bionic KVM kernel: # CONFIG_NFSD is not set So yeah, you're right, there is no such support for the KVM kernels ** Changed in: nfs-utils (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid ** Summary changed: - Failed to install nfs-kernel-server package on X/X-KVM + Failed to install nfs-kernel-server package on KVM kernels ** No longer affects: nfs-utils (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788336 Title: Failed to install nfs-kernel-server package on KVM kernels To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-kernel-tests/+bug/1788336/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1805782] [NEW] X server crashes after alleged application crash
Public bug reported: In some situations an application does not react for some time. If I click the "close window" button in the window caption in this case Ubuntu shows some dialog window with some text like: "The application does not react. Do you want to stop the application?" and two buttons: "Stop application" and "Wait". (I'm not using the English variant so I don't know the exact English text.) The only way to get out of this situation seems to kill the application using "pkill -KILL application_name". If I press "Stop application" or "Wait" (it does not matter which of both buttons I press!) the mouse cursor is still moving but nothing else on the GUI is working any more. The only way to get out of this situation is to go to the text console (e.g. using Ctrl+Alt+F3), log in and kill the X server using "pkill -KILL Xorg". Sometimes even a re-boot of the PC is necessary to get the GUI running again after this situation. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1805782 Title: X server crashes after alleged application crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1805782/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1770871] Re: [MIR] libcue
I reviewed libcue (2.2.1-2) from disco. This is not a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. libcue is a library to parse CUE sheets / files (metadata which describes how tracks of a CD or DVD are layed out). Stored as plain text and commonly have the .cue extension. Parsed via flex / bison. - Build dependencies: - bison, cmake, debhelper-compat, flex - No CVE history - no pre or postinst scripts - no systemd unit files - no system dbus services - no setuid files - no binaries in PATH - no sudo fragments - no udev rules - tests run during the build, seems reasonably extensive - no cron jobs - clean build log other than warning regarding possible buffer overflow in time_frame_to_mmssff() - see below - doesn't spawn other processes - memory management looked careful - file IO - reads from FILE* via flex, doesn't directly open files - minimal logging, looked fine - no environment variables used - no ioctl() or other privileged syscalls - Does not use cryptography - Does not use DBus - Does not use webkit - Does not use temporary files - Does not use javascript - No cppcheck errors - Does not use polkit - Potential for signed integer overflow in time_msf_to_frame() if time is negative - Potential for buffer overflow in time_frame_to_mmssff() if time is negative - Both would be fixed if time was treated everywhere as an unsigned quantity rather than signed integral types (int/long) - ACK from security team to promote to main. ** Changed in: libcue (Ubuntu) Assignee: Ubuntu Security Team (ubuntu-security) => (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1770871 Title: [MIR] libcue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libcue/+bug/1770871/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1805775] [NEW] PC SN720 NVMe WDC 256GB consumes more power in S2Idle than long idle
Public bug reported: [Impact] On new systems that facilitate s2idle, we observed the power consumption raises higher than long idle does during s2idle with Western Digital PC SN720 NVMe SSD SDAPNTW-256G. Short idle: 5.3 Long idle: 3.0 S2I: 5.07 [Fix] Windows doesn't put nvme to D3 in modern standby, and uses its own APST feature to do the power management. To leverage its APST feature during s2idle, we can't disable nvme device while suspending, too. So, here is what we did on the driver, 1. prevent nvme from entering D3, 2. prevent nvme from being disabled when suspending. [Test] Verified on the WD NVMe, it fixes the power consumption issue with no regression. And the power consumption decreases to 1.66W during s2idle. [Regression Potential] Low, the patches only applied to specific nvme module, and from our test, the system is still stable. ** Affects: hwe-next Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux-oem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: AceLan Kao (acelankao) Status: In Progress ** Tags: originate-from-1805324 somerville ** Tags added: originate-from-1805324 somerville -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1805775 Title: PC SN720 NVMe WDC 256GB consumes more power in S2Idle than long idle To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/1805775/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1805048] Re: [MS-7A38, Realtek ALC892, Pink Mic, Front] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound. It's not my microphone, it's every audio input... Audio output is fine
Thanks. Most likely (usually) this is noise from the motherboard and other system internals, so a hardware design fault. Although manufacturers might disagree about what is an acceptable level of noise. If that's true then your best bet would be to get a USB microphone, which separates the mic electronics from the noisy internals of the computer. ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1805048 Title: [MS-7A38, Realtek ALC892, Pink Mic, Front] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound. [Bug 1805712] Re: ffmpeg don't use the VAAPI hardware acceleration
Hi, Looking at the posts on Ubuntu, you're trying to decode an MPEG-4 ASP file: Stream #0:0: Video: mpeg4 (Advanced Simple Profile) ... To play these files using VA-API you need the "VAProfileMPEG4AdvancedSimple" profile, but the output of vainfo says your GPU doesn't support this. The FFmpeg error above also states this (profile 15 corresponds to MPEG-4 ASP). While I'm not certain, after looking on the Internet a bit I can't find any evidence that any Intel GPU has ever supported hardware decode for MPEG-4 Part 2 encoded video. [Bug 1805730] [NEW] After run command in terminal cursor hangs flashing without prompt
Public bug reported: When launching a program in terminal the cursor does not respond. Normaly the command gets executed but if I try to close window message states that there is a process that will be ended if I close and when I do the running program stops. I am a novice ubuntu user who stared with geomagpy/magpy (self built not using annacongo?) Then next project was LXC/LXD/ZFS, still in works. KDEconnect, KDEindicator and GSconnect and Mconnect, Chrome-extension, Gnome shell, openssh, all due to a Unbuntu bluetooth file share incompatibilty with the package Caja V1.12.7. (Not being able trans Android files) Its been a challenge and a work in progress. Still have to figure our why Share is a menu item and yet seems I had to setup a workgroup network which using Shares-admin, still had to automaticly download some files to set up. So yes confussion as moved to far to fast. I think it all stemmed from not have the network and share configured. In the mist of it all my orginal admin log in user account devaloped desktop problems, first the mate-panel was not appearing. So I reinstalled most component packages again.Lightdm, mate-session, mate- panel, marco, mate-desktop-default settings, ect 15-20 other Pkgs The only way after using -reset and -reconfigure was to boot to the desktop, open terminal, run command mate-session, then mate-panel then marco -reset. This gave me a working desktop menu and windows as long as the terminal screens for each command remain open. I gave up after using all possible researched methods to restore the desktop panel and menu. I renamed .Xsession .cache .profile .bashrc .config, .ICEauthorityran DPKG -reconfigure lightdm, sudo service lightdm restart, set the PAM-envoroment, check file ownnerships. Tried other solutions I can not recall at moment. I finaly tried a guest log in that worked. So Deletd the oroginal admin/user account and set up another admin/user. I chaned the group user UID in the group user (name) and sudo and couple other groups. This was in hopes of not creating a conflict with programs like LXC?LXD that may have been created depending on the user GUID at the time. Maybe created more problems than avoided. I do have some .xsession eroors that carried over to the new user account. I am pursuing, as I decided to run ubuntu-bug -w on a open terminal window. Bellow post the .xsesion-errors. [Bug 521533]
I don't want my previous response to be taken as a vote for the status quo. The behavior I would expect is: 1. If I don't hit save my work disappears.(*) The current application does not have a save function (as distinct from save as), and I'm pretty sure that if I fill in a form, exit, and then open the form my old values will still be there. Worse, if someone else using the same account opens the form, they will see my info. 2. If I do save (not just save as) my work will be saved with the file. In this case I might not expect, but would be pleased if 3. there were an option to save the form data to a separate file and restore it from a separate file. I'd guess such a facility is consistent with the 1600 page XFA spec, though I can't say I know where :) Because the current behavior violates these expectations, it is a security risk. Someone's personal information may be exposed in ways unanticipated, and operations that usually assure security, like not saving a file or deleting it, will not work. And operations that are expected to reveal info, like copying/mailing a pdf or operating on it with a different program, may instead conceal/disappear the information. (*) Some usability experts argue that "work disappears if I don't save" is not the expectation of the lay user, and that our current model of "you must save to keep your work" is aggravating and unintuitive to them. That may well be correct. But unless the surrounding programs all start behaving this way, this behavior is undesirable. An application that may be dealing with sensitive private information is not the place to pioneer new interface models. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdegraphics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/521533 Title: Okular stores form data in a different directory (possible leak of private data) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdegraphics/+bug/521533/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

(In reply to lutz.wrage from comment #50) > Is there any use case that justifies storing form data in > ~/.kde/share/apps/okular/docdata/ given that the same data can be stored in > the pdf itself? > It seems to me that there isn't. While I consider the current behavior undesirable, it does have its advantages. In fact, it's the reason I decided to use okular for my taxes. Here's the use case: 1. Generate some forms automatically (e.g., opentaxsolver computes my taxes and fills in government forms). 2. Resulting forms require some manual tweaks (e.g., check boxes, fill in additional fields). 3. Discover forms need to be regenerated to correct a mistake. Modify inputs and return to 1. In this scenario, the work in 2 is lost if the results have been stored in the pdf, but is retained if the values are stored elsewhere, as okular currently does. Even if the pdf in 2 is saved under a different name, so that the results are not literally lost, one must manually identify the changed information and reenter it. There is another scenario in which the recreation of the information is less desirable. If some of the manually entered information in 2 depends on the values from 1, e.g., you manually enter line 55 as a copy of line 32 but the automatically generated line 32 changes, then the previous manual data may be invalid.
