[Bug 1810189] [NEW] External mic not detected and/or used trrs jack ALC283

2018-12-31 Thread Jérémi Campagna
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu version : 18.04.1

2)
alsa-utils:
  Installé : 1.1.3-1ubuntu1
  Candidat : 1.1.3-1ubuntu1
 Table de version :

3) I expected my headset's microphone to be used by the system directly or at
least to be able to "toggle" it

4) It's not even recognized and keeps using my laptop's internal
microphone. I did tests using Discord and when I got closer to my
laptop's internal mic, my voice was louder as my friends reported. I
could see on some graphs like pavucontrol's that it was the case. But it
never happened when I got my headset's mic close to my mouth.

[Bug 1299007] Re: [ASUS Z87-PRO] suspend/resume failure

2018-12-31 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
If "echo none > /sys/power/pm_test" doesn't work then it can be a
platform firmware (i.e. BIOS) issue.

Upgrade the BIOS may help.

[Bug 1768976] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 is overheating after upgrade from 16.04

2018-12-31 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
If we can confirm thermald is not the culprit, we can do a kernel
bisection to find the regression commit.

First, find the last good -rc kernel and the first bad -rc kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Then,
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect good $(the good version you found)
$ git bisect bad $(the bad version found)
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it.
If the issue still happens,
$ git bisect bad
Otherwise,
$ git bisect good
Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit that causes the
regression.

[Bug 1728012] Re: Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change

2018-12-31 Thread Diego Arimany
Since 2017 until now (2019)

For EPSON's website provides Linux packages for scanners and printers as
(.deb, .rpm, or source) which are simple to install. In two steps (if
you have it on the network).

Step 1.
Go to EPSON Driver and Software Download Center
(http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/)
Download and unpack the scanner driver (Image Scan, currently version 1.3.40)

imagescan-bundle-linuxmint-19-1.3.40.x64.deb.tar.gz

Then, run ./install.sh
sudo ./install.sh

Step 2. (for a newtork scanner)
Edit the file /etc/sane.d/epson2.conf
Modify the line
net 192.168.xxx.yyy (to match your scanner IP)

That's it.

[Bug 1810176] [NEW] libmtp error could not get object handles

2018-12-31 Thread Matt Sandefur
Public bug reported:

When connecting my android galaxy s7 phone via usb, I am unable to
access my Music folder, which contains 380 subfolders. The file manager
is inactive for a long time, and finally displays the error:

Sorry, could not display all the contents of "Music": libmtp error:
could not get object handles.

Adding one more subfolder on the android side seems to work around the
issue, so the issue is related to the number of items.

Given this, my issue appears to be a specific example of the issue described in
the link below.

[Bug 1810168] [NEW] Move the Keyboard repeat settings back to the Keyboard settings

2018-12-31 Thread Dan Dascalescu
Public bug reported:

I've just installed Ubuntu 18.04 and wanted to set the keyboard repeat
delay and speed. So I type "Keyboard", hoping to land in the same place
I would on Ubuntu 16, but the Keyboard settings in 18 only have
shortcuts. Huh?

I had to Google "how to set the keyboard repeat rate Ubuntu 18", which
is already a big red flag.

I'm sure there was a reason for that setting to be moved under
"Universal Access", but was there a user acceptance test? Maybe it makes
some logical or architectural sense to have Keyboard Repeat Settings
under "Universal Access", but to me and to many other users[1] it makes
no sense at all.

To quote one user:

"Great UI design. Why would you put keyboard settings in
Settings->Keyboard? Haha that'd be stupid! We should hide them in
accessibility under what looks like a toggle-button but isn't instead...
Edit: Speed is backwards? Oh my god someone *designed* this??"

[Bug 1810166] [NEW] gvfsd-smb generates read errors in SMB1 or SMB2

2018-12-31 Thread Climbe Popeau
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release:18.04

gvfs-backends:
  Instalados: 1.36.1-0ubuntu1.1
  Candidato:  1.36.1-0ubuntu1.1
  Tabla de versión:
 *** 1.36.1-0ubuntu1.1 500
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/main amd64
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1.36.1-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages

When reading certain files I will get a read error and the program will fail.
For example:

cp /run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-share\:server\=\,share\=test/myfile.txt .
cp: error reading
'/run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-share:server=,share=test/myfile.txt': Invalid
argument

Or vlc myfilm.m4v

I get:

filesystem error: read error: Invalid argument
mp4 warning: mp4: wanted 675392 bytes, got 658962
mp4 warning: Failed reading box stco

Adding back the following code that was removed from
daemon/gvfsbackendsmb.c fixes the problem:

  /* libsmbclient limits blocksize to (64*1024)-2 for Windows servers,
   * let's do the same here to achieve reasonable performance. (#588391)
   *
   * TODO: port to pull mechanism (#592468)
   */
  if (bytes_requested > 65534)
bytes_requested = 65534;

[Bug 1800043] Re: nautilus cannot write on nfs file share

2018-12-31 Thread Peter Neugebauer
As for the command line: copying and deleting works with the usual cp/rm
commands and also with the gio tool (gio copy/gio remove). However, it doesn't
work with nautilus.
The nautilus UI simply doesn't let me place the icon of the desired file into
the root window. It "flies" back to where it came from. Thus, it behaves
exactly as you would expect from a read-only file system. BTW: copying _from_
the root system with nautilus also works correctly. And, again, once I go into
one of my folders - everything works as usual.
For now I decided to mount my share with CIFS - which also works as desired.

Best regards
Peter

2018-12-31 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

I have an ASUS A320M-K with latest BIOS 4027 (AGESA 1.0.0.6), Ryzen 7
2700, Patriot Viper RGB 16GB RAM 3200CL16, Samsung 830 SSD 128GB,
Corsair AX860 860W PSU (80+ Platinum) and ASUS ROG Strix RX480 8GB.
Running Arch Linux w/ Kernel 4.19.12 and GNOME 3.30 on Wayland. BIOS
configured to Defaults + XMP Profile activated + CSM disabled (-> UEFI-
only mode).

I have experienced 2 hangs with this system, both within 1 hour uptime.
However, I couldn't spot anything in the logs. There were no watchdog
entries, unlike previously posted in this bug report.

The "system lockup" expresses itself by blanking my screen to dark and
showing a blinking cursor in the top left corner. No other symbols /
information. I can't interact in any way with my system - it ignores all
inputs; can't switch console, doesn't react to single power button
press, nothing. Only way to shutdown is holding power button for 4s.

I entered the BIOS after the lockups and noticed *VERY* slow performance
within BIOS. Keypresses took very long to register (like 5+ seconds)
until BIOS eventually hung. After another powercycle, all was good
again. I wonder, if rebooting using the reset button could give us more
clues, if the system continues to run "buggy" after the reset.

After setting "Typical Current Idle", I didn't had a single lockup ever
since, even after 48h uptime, mostly idling. System runs perfectly good.
This fix is fine for desktops, but laptops suffer from higher power
draw, if they're able to set this.
