[Bug 1682455] Re: thunderbird not available in GNOME Software

2019-02-04 Thread hbchoong
Can I please try to understand what the next steps are, if this is being
attended to or just simply going to be ignored due to the lack of
resources or coordination at Canonical et al?

(I'm looking to understand the processes a little better...)

Thanks.

[Bug 1804408] Re: [19.04 FEAT] LUKS2 support for pam_mount

2019-02-04 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Ingo,
we are sorting out the needs for an SRU of this - until I have discussed with
the Team (all others still asleep :-) ) I wanted to ask if you had a test setup
for LUKS1/LUKS2 available that you used to write your patch. If so we could
reuse that for the verifications of PPAs and the final SRU.

[Bug 736743] Re: environment block not implemented on btrfs

2019-02-04 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Is anyone can explain why /etc/grub.d/00_header generate
/boot/grub/grub.cfg like this by default for btrfs partitions? I have at
least one laptop where it cause GRUB2 menu appear on every boot with 30
seconds counter:

function recordfail {
  set recordfail=1
  # GRUB lacks write support for btrfs, so recordfail support is disabled.
}
...
if [ "${recordfail}" = 1 ] ; then
  set timeout=30

Of course, there is several workarounds for this issue, but why
00_header was written like this in first place?

[Bug 1814060] Re: Disco: Please demote some binaries of src:dpdk to universe (and afterwards remove 17.11 binaries if any are left)

2019-02-04 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
After clearing the auto-promotions of libdpdk-dev and dpdk-dev the case
resolved itself as then dependencies were correctly detected.
Thanks for the help with that.

The one AA task which is left it to remove the 17.11 binaries which (so far)
were not auto-removed.
This list [1] should have no depends anymore and be removable.

[Bug 1810920] Re: GeoLite2-Country-CSV support for Ubuntu 16.04/18.04

2019-02-04 Thread sles
I have the same problem with download.
I can download using scripts from 3.1, but resulting rules does not work with
3.0, shipped with ubuntu.
Rule can't be created, but it passes all traffic, no matter which country it is
from.
iptables -I INPUT -m geoip ! --src-cc RU -j DROP
allows traffic from Japan...
although module built and running on Centos 7 works...

Definitely not, passes are not required to maintain REG_DEAD/REG_UNUSED
notes, it's the exclusive job of DF and we're better not open this can
of worms.

I admit I have just a vague recollection of this, but I thought since df
has been added, usually if a pass wants REG_DEAD notes, it needs to
df_note_add_problem () and df_analyze should rebuild the
REG_DEAD/REG_UNUSED notes.

[Bug 1811798]

2019-02-04 Thread Jakub-gcc
So, to me this looks like a backend bug, using dead_or_set_p in a splitter when
the split passes don't really compute the note problem. Seems s390 is the only
backend that does this, other backends use dead_or_set_p either only in
peephole2s (which is fine, peephole2 pass starts with
  df_set_flags (DF_LR_RUN_DCE);
  df_note_add_problem ();
  df_analyze ();
and even when many targets don't use df_or_set_p, they do use peep2_dead*), or
(cris) in delayed branch scheduling (I believe that doesn't guarantee that
either). Can't what you are doing in the splitters be done in define_peephole2
instead?

Not that easy unfortunately. peephole2 will run after reload. So the FP
constant ok 0.0 will already be reloaded into a register first or pushed
into literal pool. The point of doing the transformation is to avoid
this.

[Bug 1811798]

2019-02-04 Thread Krebbel
The r265193 patch was found via reghunt. However, it just reveals an
underlying issue.

The problem can also be seen with mainline.

The miscompile happens in the following loop:
  do 110 j = 1, n
 if (sdiag(j) .eq. zero .and. nsing .eq. n) nsing = j - 1
 if (nsing .lt. n) wa(j) = zero
  110continue

The problem appears to be rather related to ifcvt. ifcvt generates a
load on condition for the sdiag(j) .eq. zero comparison by inserting
insns: 2480, 2481, 2482:

In the backend we have that interesting splitter which triggers for the
old and now obsolete compare in insn 916

as the CC destination register. */
   operands[3] = gen_rtx_COMPARE (GET_MODE (operands[0]),
  operands[1], operands[2]);
 })

268.split1   insn 916 -> insn 2677
The REG_DEAD note becomes a clobber due to that

But it is still invalid. If those splitters are essentially to you and
worth slowing the compiler on s390*, then you could e.g. add a custom
target pass right before split1, where you'd just df_note_addr_problem
(); df_analyze (); and thus ensured that during the splitting you could
use the REG_DEAD/REG_UNUSED notes safely. In the splitters you'd likely
need to use current_pass to verify you are in the pass for which you've
done this.

[Bug 1814545] Re: installer setup encryption phrase is accepted with lesser characters upon install when bootup, only a certain combination of characters in the password, i assume... make it do this,

2019-02-04 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Joshua, different tools will handle passwords differently.
Backslashes in particular may be funny. It's better to generate
passwords with an algorithm that outputs enough characters from a more
restricted character set to provide the security level you want.

Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

duplicate as this system was installed 85+ days ago & yet I only discovered
this issue now!
+ 3:--- qa-test using daily image
+ I booted today's daily image on different box which has two displays; at
first it was good (displays next to each other horizontally). I adjusted
position so they were vertically placed (like they are for that box, and this
reporting box the bug-report relates to). I could re-create bug by using
'monitor settings' to a vertical placement & letting screensaver run.

- When the screensaver takes effect, both displays go dim & go black for
- maybe a second then one shows screensaver, the other returns to normal
- display.
+ When the screensaver takes effect, both displays go dim & go black for maybe
a second then one shows screensaver, the other returns to normal display.

If i have windows (hexchat, htop/glances running) on the non-screensaver
displaying window, those contents continue to receive updates allowing
me to see new incoming messages in hexchat, or view the process info in
  htop/glances on a qterminal window.

I logged out & tried same in XFCE and it blacked both screens the same,
but then showed xscreensaver images on each display (not the same image,
each with its own 'image'). My system has lubuntu-desktop & xubuntu-
desktop intalled. I returned to Lubuntu & re-tested and it was the same
(one display showing screensaver, one resuming active windows)

  To replicate:

  - login to Lubuntu 19.04 (on system with two displays)
  - have windows open on both displays, eg. htop so you can view detail change
  - change screensaver prefers to blank after 1 min, then wait

as screensaver takes effect, both will dim, then one will display
screensaver, other will return to displaying the window it was before
with information (htop etc) updating as if unlocked.

i tried `ubuntu-bug xscreensaver` & it ran apport, then returned to $ prompt
without browser to enter this window. this is my main desktop; x86_64 or dell
[optiplex] 960 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd 5000/6000/7350/8350) on
that rare occasion I use it for qa-testing. this though was my installed
normal system (so likely heavily modified)

Re: [Bug 1814330] Re: My adblocker for the Firefox browser was removed in the last update

2019-02-04 Thread Lyn Griffith
Thank you for your response.
Actually, I know very little about how this operating system works.  It's a
long story.
The person who set up my computer has now moved out of town and I live in a
remote area where there is no one local who can teach me how to move around
this operating system.
Where do I open about:addons ?

I don't necessarily need to use the one that no longer appears to be operating
except to provide you information.  If you can recommend an adblocker that I
should use with Firefox and tell me how to install it, I can go forward.
Not having any adblocker is the problem.

Do you know what adblocker extension you were using?
Can you open about:addons and check whether it's listed there? Does it say
anything about the extension being disabled for some reason?

[Bug 1814443] Re: random freeze

2019-02-04 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1812527] Re: gnome-shell crashes with SIGSEGV in meta_window_actor_is_destroyed(self=NULL) called from _switchWorkspaceDone() [windowManager.js:1787] when running Android emulator (QEMU)

2019-02-04 Thread Eberhard Beilharz
Crashing here as well, and I don't have the Android emulator running.
It's happening seemingly randomly when switching between workspaces.

I tried to follow the steps from #2, but steps 1 and 2 didn't work, and
I'm not clear what workaround from bug 994921 is meant exactly.

syslog also shows a crash in libmutter-2.so.0.0.0.

[Bug 1666203] Re: pam_tty_audit failed in pam_open_session

2019-02-04 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Don, probably an SRU sponsor would like the debdiff to include
references where to find the patch that you applied in upstream sources
or other bug reports. The usual way to do so is via a Description: and
Origin: header in the patch, see https://dep-
team.pages.debian.net/deps/dep3/ for more information.

Thanks

[Bug 1814613] [NEW] qmlscene -style material file.qml says "QApplication: invalid style override passed"

2019-02-04 Thread jimav
Public bug reported:

qmlscene -qt=5 -style material file.qml
prints
QApplication: invalid style override passed, ignoring it.
on the terminal.

This does not happen when using the environment variable method, e.g.
  QT_QUICK_CONTROLS_STYLE=material qmlscene -qt=5 file.qml

The documentation for how this is supposed to work is at

https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qtquickcontrols2-styles.html#using-styles-in-qt-quick-controls-2

I'm reporting this to ubuntu because it might be due to packaging or
patching done for Ubuntu. I can not conveniently try a pristine
upstream version of Qt, so hoping the Qt Ubuntu maintainer can quickly
determine if this is an upstream bug or not.

I'll attach a trivial test file which demonstrates the problem

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
  qmlscene -style material test.qml # test.qml attached

ACTUAL RESULTS:
Prints warning about invalid style on the terminal

EXPECTED RESULTS:
  Silent obedience

[Bug 1814388] [NEW] After switching users, I can see the passwords in /dev/tty1

2019-02-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Seth Arnold (seth-arnold):

Basically I installed ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS on an old machine (on a blank
SSD), and when I just when had finished the configuration installing
just a few apps, I thought I had seen the admin's user password during
Power Off (in the boot text screen that blinks) - as it's an old
computer I could see this text blinking.

I didn't even use this machine.

After some tests, I found out that after performing these steps:
 - turning the machine on, logging into admin user
 - logging off the admin user
 - logging in a non admin user
 - logging off the non admin user
 - logging in back to the admin user

By running `sudo cat /dev/tty1` I could see everything which was typed
in the login screen. And that is the content that appears during the
power off text screen.

For more info, please see https://askubuntu.com/questions/1114802

The steps I can remember while setting up this machine were:
 - changing region to Portuguese (brazil) and configuring keyboard
 - installing Gweled, Pitivi, VLC, Spotify and SuperTuxKart through 'Ubuntu
Software'
 - installing Google Chrome and Skype by downloading their deb packages from
the official websites
 - uninstalled Thunderbird
 - updated everything

As you can see in the AskUbuntu question, I tried to simulate this by
repeating these steps in a virtual machine, but was not able to
reproduce it. One difference is that this is a HP Pavilion old laptop
with all sorts of things on it, so many drivers may be needed which will
not be present in the VM. I booted with 4.15.0-29-generic and it behaved
the same. However, during the session booting with the 4.15.0.29
recovery mode, I could not detect that sympton!

I'll keep this machine for a few days, but then I'll reinstall
everything, if it persists, I'll update here.

[Bug 1814611] [NEW] ubuntu-bug never (any longer) opens browser window

2019-02-04 Thread jimav
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS, X11 gnome session.

For some reason ubuntu-bug no longer opens a browser
window, so it is not possible to enter useful bug detauls, or even know
the bug number.

After prompting whether or not to Send the report, clicking "Send" just
closes appport and nothing else ever happens. The exit status of
"ubuntu-bug" is zero.

This worked fine before, but it has been many months since I tried to
submit a bug.

strace shows many stat calls on plausible browser paths, including the one that
is correct (/usr/bin/firefox, which returned a successful stat call). I'll
attach the trace output from

   strace -f -o /tmp/strace.log ubuntu-bug apport

[Bug 1814490] Re: lubuntu 19.04 xscreensaver runs on single display, other display continues normally

2019-02-04 Thread Chris Guiver
latest daily image (lubuntu 19.04 daily image), and at first no
problems (just re-did test in comment #6)

i then changed my displays to vertical (one above the other as I really
have them) and waited...

bingo - problem, screen dims then top display has screensaver & bottom
returned to prior image (monitor settings & qterminal on display both
readable). alas i've overwritten the 29th-Jan USB with today's so
cannot reboot & modify screen position to see if #6 did the same (can't
write new one as .iso was zsync'd to today's)

[Bug 1814609] [NEW] ubuntu-bug / appport never opens browser window

2019-02-04 Thread jimav
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS, X11 gnome session.

For some reason ubuntu-bug no longer opens a browser
window.

After prompting whether or not to Send the report, clicking "Send" just
closes appport and nothing else ever happens. The exit status of
"ubuntu-bug" is zero.

I don't know whether the bug data was sent but browser not opened, or if
apport silently croaked (yet exited with zero status) before sending
anything.

Firefox is my default browser, confirmed just now in Settings->Default
Applications->Web.

Anyway this worked fine before, but it has been many months since I
tried to submit a bug.

[Bug 1814490] Re: lubuntu 19.04 xscreensaver runs on single display, other display continues normally

2019-02-04 Thread Chris Guiver
I just booted a 19.04 daily image used in my last Lubuntu x86_64 QA-test
[booted on hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)]. The
daily.ISO was downloaded 29-Jan with ISO dated 28-Jan, and xscreensaver
had no issues with two screens (both showed different color & different
images & no htop's visible). I've re-powered up my file server so
updating my daily & plan to re-test with todays.

[Bug 1814607] [NEW] ubuntu 18.04.2 daily is janky with chromium on fishgl.com?

2019-02-04 Thread Dan Kegel
Public bug reported:

I've been testing as follows:
- install chromium (or chrome, or chrome beta)
- open http://fishgl.com
- crank up number of fish to 325 (or as high as it'll go and sustain 60 fps)
- after fish are happily swimming, watch them swim for 60 seconds, and count
number of times the screen freezes

This was fine (i.e. zero hangs) on 18.04.1 +
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2400400
but not fine on 18.04.2 (i.e. always hangs briefly within 60 seconds)

The last four times I ran this, I got 4, 2, 8, 3 hangs in 60 seconds. Each hang
usually lasted
for less than a second. Some lasted for a second and a half (maybe that was two
hangs
back to back). Running xclock -update 1 seems to show that the hang extends to
other apps,
i.e. when the fish hang, xclock also seems to hang. Running firefox in
parallel, or a second
chromium window, seems to avoid the hang.

tail -f /var/log/syslog didn't show any new output during hangs.
(There are a lot of gnome-shell stack dumps in /var/log/syslog, fwiw.)

I'll try to test on a non-Hades system.

[Bug 1814490] Re: lubuntu 19.04 xscreensaver runs on single display, other display continues normally

2019-02-04 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

Lubuntu 19.04 [x86_64] installed system (upgraded from 18.04 85 days
  ago)
+
+ --- added re: package
+ As for package - xscreensaver may not be culprit.
+ It works perfectly on 18.04 Lubuntu (see comment #3 & #4 which tested prior &
current package), and if I login via XFCE (Xubuntu) on same box (my install has
both; comment #1). I tested killing lxqt-powermanagement which made no
difference (comment #5) where it was suggested
+
+ Okay, then I'd say just stick lxqt-session to the bug report
+ too and see how it proceeds. :P
+
+

When the screensaver takes effect, both displays go dim & go black for
maybe a second then one shows screensaver, the other returns to normal
  display.

-
  To replicate:

  - login to Lubuntu 19.04 (on system with two displays)
  - have windows open on both displays, eg. htop so you can view detail change
  - change screensaver prefers to blank after 1 min, then wait

as screensaver takes effect, both will dim, then one will display
screensaver, other will return to displaying the window it was before
with information (htop etc) updating as if unlocked.

-

i tried `ubuntu-bug xscreensaver` & it ran apport, then returned to $ prompt
without browser to enter this window. this is my main desktop; x86_64 or dell
[optiplex] 960 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd 5000/6000/7350/8350) on
that rare occasion I use it for qa-testing. this though was my installed
normal system (so likely heavily modified)

[Bug 1814606] [NEW] ubuntu 18.04.2 daily is janky with chromium on fishgl.com?

2019-02-04 Thread Dan Kegel
Public bug reported:

I've been testing Ubuntu 18.04.1 with Hades Canyon using the recipe
https://mzwiki.oblong.com/wiki/Hades_Canyon

My smoke test is:
- install chromium (or chrome, or chrome beta)
- open http://fishgl.com
- crank up number of fish to 325 (or as high as it'll go and sustain 60 fps)
- after fish are happily swimming, watch them swim for 60 seconds, and count
number of times the screen freezes

This was fine (i.e. zero hangs) on 18.04.1 +
https://mzwiki.oblong.com/wiki/Hades_Canyon
but not fine on 18.04.2 (i.e. always hangs briefly within 60 seconds)

The last four times I ran this, I got 4, 2, 8, 3 hangs in 60 seconds. Each
hang usually lasted
for less than a second. Some lasted for a second and a half (maybe that was
two hangs
back to back).

2019-02-04 Thread Chris Guiver
from #lubuntu-devel

guiverc: Okay, thanks. Then it seems like the correct
package to file the bug report against is somewhere in the LXQt space.

guiverc: Try and "killall lxqt-powermanagement" and see if it's
still the same then?
Otherwise, only lxqt-session comes to mind as a possible culprit.

I `killall -9 /usr/bin/lxqt-powermanagement` until I got a message that
it'd 'crashed' too many times and wouldn't restart until next login
(well done & kudos to lxqt-powermanagement devs)

the effect was no different. On my lubuntu 19.04 installed system (no
reboots since yesterday) screens dim, then one screen has screensaver &
other is restored to qterm+hexchat which update normally fully visible.

Okay, then I'd say just stick lxqt-session to the bug report
too and see how it proceeds. :P
