[Bug 1763892] Re: 144Hz/120Hz monitor but mutter seems to cap rendering at 60FPS

2019-02-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Still working on getting the fix into cosmic first.

Although it's easy to forget this bug is for Wayland only. In theory
Xorg sessions don't need fixing. In practice though, I find 120Hz
displays sometimes need a lot of encouragement to go above 60Hz even on
Xorg. I think that problem is a general performance one, which might be
fixed by:

[Bug 1816950] Re: package mysql-server-5.6 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2019-02-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1814982] Re: efi/arm/arm64: Allow SetVirtualAddressMap() to be omitted

2019-02-21 Thread Lee Jones
Good afternoon Paolo. It's been a while. I hope you and the team are
well.

How much extra enablement for the Snapdragon 835does 'snapdragon-edge'
contain?

My fear is that a lot of the most recent functionally patches have
either only just gone upstream, or are currently residing in -next. In
order to have a kernel which is useful, these patches would be required.

I tested the kernels you posted before. mahmoh posted the results of my
testing above. v5.0 gets really close, but the screen goes blank right
at the last moment and no login screen is presented. My gut feeling
tells me that this is an issue surrounding regulators. There are some
patches in -next which tune some of the QCom regulator drivers which I
believe will solve the problem.

The patch you are testing works (and is actually a hard requirement for
all of these devices). As mahmoh mentioned, if it wasn't working the
kernels above wouldn't get much past the Grub screen. Obviously once
v5.1-rc1 is released we get all our requirements for free, but it would
be really nice if you guys could carry the patch in your most recent
kernels until you pick up v5.1.

Thanks again Paolo.

2019-02-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Kurniawan,
from your log:

Aborting downgrade from (at least) 5.7 to 5.6.
If are sure you want to downgrade to 5.6, remove the file
/var/lib/mysql/debian-*.flag and try installing again.

You try to install version 5.6 which isn't even in the archive for
Ubuntu Xenial which you are on. This is unsupported in general and in
particular mysql downgrades are critical as you can loose your data.
Henve the blocker above in your log that you have to opt into.

2019-02-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi John,
the report has a lot of red herrings (all the error device is in use), but IMHO
in the log the error that you hit was.

Use of uninitialized value $reply in scalar chomp at
/usr/share/perl5/Debconf/FrontEnd/Passthrough.pm line 66

That is a known and unfortunate issue, as it occurs every now and then
and sometimes is fixed but seems to come back - often with hard to
analyze (and thereby hard to identify and fix) root causes.

It all seems like bug 1646739 to me, but since that was fixed in bug
1679435 it must be a new trigger for the same symptom.

In any case it is in debconf, so I add a bug task - but I also set it to
incomplete as we'd need more information why/how it was triggered for
you.

The only good side for now, usually it is a one off error that does work
fine when retrying.

[Bug 1817041] Re: package openssh-server 1:7.2p2-4ubuntu2.7 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2019-02-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Hrovje,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The directory would usually be created for you on system start.
There were cases where users set /var to tmpfs or similar things eventually
breaking this.

You might take a look at [1] as that pretty much sounds like your issue
already

[Bug 1817027] Re: samba crashes when uploading files

2019-02-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Thomas,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

There isn't really enough information here for a developer to confirm
this issue is a bug, or to begin working on it, so I am marking this bug
Incomplete for now.

Since it really is a crash I recommend taking a look at [1]..
That will also answer questions like which version you are on and more.

Since samba does not crash for everyone something on your installation
seems to be special, so whatever changes to the config you have made are
worth to mention as well.

Also what do you copy large/small files, which version is the windows client,
can you trigger it with an Ubuntu samba client as well ?
The more you can add the better, then please add them to this bug and change
the status back to New.

[Bug 1809201] Re: lubuntu 19.04 two displays, programs maximized uses only part of 2nd display

2019-02-21 Thread Chris Guiver

two displays; both dell but DVI0 is landscape, DVI1 is portrait (left)
orientation.

Adjust displays to match setup, then conducted tests (for another bug-
report) & noted that firefox wasn't maximizing to whole of DVI1 display.
Picture attached.

Note: As I had featherpad open, I tried it too, it used the exact same
proportions of the display as firefox used, as did pcmanfm-qt. They
performed as expected on DVI0, but not DVI1 (portrait-left oriented
screen)

Why have you filed this bug report against shim? There is nothing in

and you did not include the text of the "software problem program

[Bug 1816352] Re: Lubuntu 19.04: firefox-window on dvi0 (display0) fullscreen on exit jumps to dvi1 (other display)

2019-02-21 Thread Chris Guiver
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400
pro/xt)

I rebooted the dell 755, using same QA-Test Lubuntu 19.04 daily image,
adjusted monitor setup to match my setup, then firefox. Here I went
wrong as I'd planned to load GHOSTERY before going to utube... but
loaded ublock.origin (as I do 66%+ of tests), so removed it & then
loaded ghostery.

On utube, tried my ~methodical/habitual window (unmaximized), f11,
fullscreen, window (maximized), f11 & fullscreen for each display & no
issues at all.

--
Rebooted, adjusted screens, loaded firefox & carefully loaded GHOSTERY. then
utube & not like any mainscreen vids selected one I don't mind musically.. With
it playing did the window (unmaximized), f11, fullscreen, window (maximized),
f11 & fullscreen for each display & again NO ISSUES AT ALL.

I did note the maximized window on dvi1 wasn't using whole of display
(using top 80%), but that isn't this issue...

I WASN'T ABLE TO RE-CREATE THIS BUG's ISSUE though !

[Bug 1817247] [NEW] 4.15 kernel's ip_vs module gets refcount errors with --ops usage

2019-02-21 Thread Marc Hasson
Public bug reported:

On our 16.04LTS system we use the ipvsadm --ops UDP support (one-packet
scheduling) to get a better distribution amongst our real servers behind
the load-balancer for some small subset of applications.

This has worked fine through the 4.4.0-xxx kernels. But when we
started a program to upgrade systems to use the 4.15 series of kernels
to take advantage of new facilities, the subset of systems which used
the --ops option ran into problems. Everything else with the 4.15
kernels appeared to work well.

The issue appears to have been the change in the ip_vs module from using
"atomic_*()" increment/decrement functions in the 4.4 kernel to instead
use "refcount_*()" functions in a later kernel, including the 4.15 one
we switched to. Unfortunately, the simple refcount_dec() function was
inadequate, in putting out a time-consuming message and handling when
the refcount dropped to zero, which is expected in the case of --ops
support that retains no state post packet delivery. I will upload an
attachment with the sample messages that get put out at packet arrival
rate, which destroys performance of course. On this VM, with far more
limited # of CPUs than production servers, the system actually hangs
(crashes?) for quite some time.

This issue was apparently already recognized as an error and has
appeared as a fix in upstream kernels. This is a reference to the 4.17
version of the fix that we'd like to see incorporated into the next
possible kernel maintenance release:

https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/a050d345cef0dc6249263540da1e902bba617e43
#diff-75923493f6e3f314b196a8223b0d6342

We have successfully used the livepatch facility to build a livepatch
.ko with the above diffs on our 4.15.0-36 system and successfully
demonstrated the contrast in good/bad behavior with/without the
livepatch module loaded. But we'd rather not have to build a version
of livepatch.ko for each kernel maintenance release.

The problem is easy to generate, with only a couple of packets and a
simple configuration. Here's a very basic test (addresses
rewritten/obscrued) version of an example configuration for 2 servers
that worked on my test VM:

ipvsadm -A -f 100 -s rr --ops
ipvsadm -a -f 100 -r 10.129.131.227:0 -g -w
ipvsadm -a -f 100 -r 10.129.131.228:0 -g -w
iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -d 172.16.5.1/32 -j MARK --set-xmark
0x64/0x
ifconfig lo:0 172.16.5.1/32 up

Routing and addressing to achieve the above, or adaptation for one's own
test environment, is left to the tester.

I set up routing and addresses on my 2 NIC test such that packets
arrived on my test machine's eth1 NIC and were directed by ip_vs out the
eth2. To test, all I did was throw a few UDP packets via traceroute at
the address on the iptables/firewall mark rule so that the eth1
interface of the test system was the traceroute system's default
gateway:

  traceroute -m 2 172.16.5.1

Without the fix my test ip_vs system either hangs or puts out messages
as per the attached. With our livepatch module using the above commit's
contents, all is well.

Just read that, despite using apport-bug, that I should include the
lsb_release info requested. Here it is inline, with the uname -a to
emphasize the kernel we are running which is the issue:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS
Release:16.04
$ uname -a
Linux director-16-04 4.15.0-36-generic #39~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 25
08:59:23 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Let me know of anything I can do to help accelerate addressing of this issue or
understanding. It seems that the fix incorporation is fairly straightforward,
and is a performance disaster without it for anyone using the --ops facility to
any significant degree.

Thanks!

[Bug 1816352] Re: Lubuntu 19.04: firefox-window on dvi0 (display0) fullscreen on exit jumps to dvi1 (other display)

2019-02-21 Thread Chris Guiver
// COULD NOT RE-CREATE ISSUE today using ublock-origin.

on same box with QA-TEST of 19.04 Lubuntu x86_64 daily & I cannot replicate
this bug.
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt)

my firefox tests are somewhat usual: ublock or ghostery, then each
display as window, maximized, f11 & fullscreen. I run this most QA-
tests, so I did this as normal & didn't have issues (didn't expect any),
then went looking for this bug-report (remembering it assuming it was
VLC but no firefox that worked today without issue). so re-tested (same
session) & no issues.

on initial report, I don't see reference to ublock origin or ghostery;
which I use is random so I could have used either. Today I'm using
ublock.origin. I will consider a reboot & try with ghostery, but may
opt for another check on another day (another daily qa-test)...

  dell optiplex 755(c2d e8300, 8gb, radeon HD 2400 pro/xt; driver=radeon)
two dell monitors, dvi-0 [as named in monitor-settings] is landscape & left,
dvi-1 [as named in monitor-settings] is rotated "left" or in portrait mode &
positioned to right

as part of QA-test, I use firefox to stream a utube vid, firefox opened
on dvi-1 display so I did it first there, watching vid in window,
pressing to watch briefly in that mode, then fullscreen. When I
exit fullscreen the firefox window returns to the way it was before I
  hit f11

I moved window to DVI-0 or left-display with video still streaming, hit
& watched briefly, then hit fullscreen & watched again briefly.
All was great, then exited fullscreen (same if I hit or click the
exit-fullscreen icon) - at this point the window zooms to a maximized
  state of DVI-1

It only seemed to do this when the firefox window was maximized on
DVI-0, if I shrunk the firefox-window to use less than full-display
before hitting 'fullscreen' or 'f', it returned to prior-case and just
  exited the video fullscreen display.

This issue is cosmetic, operation did not stop working at any point, and
it just required me to re-drag my window to my desired display.

(If i noticed this before (I believe I have), I may not have recorded
bug, just noted it on QA-test comments)

[Bug 1802617] Re: After upgrade to 18.10 boot fails on waiting for encrypted source device

2019-02-21 Thread AJ
For those looking to solve this problem please note: removing the swap
line from /etc/fstab and /etc/crypttab will fix the problem, but it'll
also disable swap.

Instead of removing the lines as #9 suggests, simply comment them out.
Once you've successfully rebooted, un-comment the lines, update
initramfs and grub, and reboot a second time.

This fixed the problem for me. I also added size=256 to my crypttab
hoping it permanently fixes this problem.

[Bug 1817244] [NEW] Game needs gstreamer1.0-plugins-good

2019-02-21 Thread Dave Odell
Public bug reported:

The game Iji uses MP3 audio, which
(last I thought) was provided by modern versions of Windows. Wine uses
GStreamer to provide codecs (including MP3 audio), but without the
gstreamer1.0-plugins-good:i386 package, things fall apart:

0036:fixme:gstreamer:unknown_type Could not find a filter for caps:
application/x-id3
0035:fixme:gstreamer:watch_bus decodebin0: Your GStreamer installation is
missing a plug-in.
0009:fixme:gstreamer:GST_Connect GStreamer could not find any streams
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x at address 0x7acdad7c

(0x7acdad7c).

Requesting that gstreamer1.0-plugins-good be added to either the Depends
or Recommended lists for libwine.

(And I have a sneaking suspicion that other codecs in Windows may need
the -bad or -ugly packages...)

[Bug 1817243] Re: I have dual boot ubuntu. in Ubunt, there is no output sound devices and always keep muted. In windows sound working perfectly

2019-02-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The reason why you are not getting sound is because:

PulseList: Error: command ['pacmd', 'list'] failed with exit code 1: No
PulseAudio daemon running, or not running as session daemon.

Pulseaudio:
  Installed - Yes (/usr/bin/pulseaudio)
  Running - No

To find out why this is so, please:

1. Follow these instructions to check for crashes:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

2. If no evidence of 'pulseaudio' crashing could be found then please
try this:

2.1. Edit your /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and add a new line that is:

 realtime-scheduling = no

2.2. Reboot and tell us if the problem persists.
