Re: [Bug 1817466] Re: Ram usage increases gradually until it reaches 100% and a hard reset is needed.
I have switched to lightdm to avoid the bug, I will switch back this evening to cause the problem again, RAM usage was measured by System Monitor, CPU usage was not high, only RAM usage which slowly increased until the display froze. The issue has been reported by multiple users in the forum (see link in my original message). Currently running default Ubuntu desktop with lightdm, RAM usage remains steady over several hours usage. [Bug 1817513] [NEW] 4.19 causes disk read errors on CT256M550SSD3 SSD
Public bug reported: Upgraded to disco, and I noticed that my SSD had read errors while looking at dmesg. When I rebooted, it won't boot any more due to disk errors. But when I tried booting with a 4.18 kernel, it allows me to boot successfully without any errors. Also, I booted an 18.10 USB disk to check which SSD was failing and when I used GNOME disks to check the filesystem, and there were no errors. I'll try download disco-current to see if the errors can be shown and be submitted here since I can't boot using 4.19 with my SSD. [Bug 1817327] Re: [Mir] python-libnacl
This is only needed for Xenial/Trusty as python-libnacl was the backend of pymacaroons there and changing that would be too much regression risk. It is a duplication in functionality, but never both are in main. python-libnacl - requested to be in Trusty/Xenial here python-nacl - is in main >=Bionic I added T/X tasks therefore and marked the forward looking main bug "invalid". [Bug 857651] Re: Unable to hide users from login screen / user switcher
Piorities are a bit odd, eventually all packages affected (low prio as they can't do much about it) actually depend on lightdm to resolve it (prio medium) which depends on accountsservive to implement some shell- filter feature (prio high). TL;DR as there was a lot of discussion up to now: - users need a way to be hidden other than "uid is low" - [1] outlines the place/feature we'd need to get back what we had in the past - [2] outlines that this is a regression and should be handled in lightdm/accountsservice and not all indirectly affected packages Note: the updated upstream bug is [3], but since this is still a semi-static list instead of detecting hidden shells as it did in the past it is not perfect for what would be needed. Furthermore nothing happened on this bug for quite some time. And finally due to being a semi-static list it is almost worse than the workaround of echo -e "[User]\nSystemAccount=true" > /var/lib/AccountsService/users/libvirt-qemu Which could at least be a per-package owned drop-in config. Once more I'd ask the Desktop Team to evaluate how this could be solved. At least Towards 20.04 we should get rid of this annoyance for users. Please let me know if: - there is any chance that we get a hidden-shell filtering into accountsservice that will fix all affected packages at once? OR - if this will not happen and affected packages are supposed to each use the drop-in config. Which means a denial of the argument that was made in [2] While I'd appreciate getting the right solution (accountsservice filters) we were stalled for too long to use the workaround solution by waiting for it to resolve. So I hope kicking this (once more) helps to at least get to some solution for the users. [Bug 1674765] Re: libvirt-qemu should be a system account
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 857651 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/857651 Hi Lucas, the problem is multi faceted. Whenever possible it has to be a defined number to e.g. avoid permission issues on migration. It was requested in [1] to ensure this across Debian/Ubuntu releases and works fine for that. But in there you will not only see libvirt-qemu, you will see plenty of accounts, all of them "system" accounts but not with uid <1000. All of the accounts you see there are affected by the same issue, and unless that there is a major overhaul for pre-allocated UIDs to get them in the range of <1000. In hindsight one might ask to get all those to be added <99 in the master pwd file, but TBH that almost never happens as the risk for colissions is probably too high. Then in turn this was working in the past and it was working on other Desktop environments. See the discussions in bug 1667113 and bug 857651. Let me try to unify the bugs, ping them and ask the Desktop Team for a pre an answer if this could at least be resolved towards 20.04. [Bug 1816704] Re: help
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 1813372] Re: Realtek r8822be kernel module does not negotiate 802.11ac connection
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected staging ** Description changed: I have an HP Omen laptop with dual boot installed. It has the Realtek 8822BE wireless chip set installed, which when running Windows 10 works as intended, i.e., it establishes an 802.11ac connection with my wireless router with speeds up to 866 mbps. However when running my Linux environment, Ubuntu Studio, the connection speed is established as 802.11n, and is limited to 300 mbps. I also see the following message in my logs which might be related to this issue: wlo1: capabilities/regulatory prevented using AP HT/VHT configuration, downgraded Please advise if additional information is needed. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 1794589] Re: libssl1.0-dev conflicts libssl-dev
I think the advice is harder to follow than it looks. Many node packages require libssl-1.0-dev, and you can't install them on a system used to develop c/c++ apps that require libssl-dev. To wit: $ sudo apt install -s node-websocket libssl-dev ... node-websocket : Depends: nodejs-dev (>= 8.9.3~dfsg-11ubuntu1~) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libjs-websocket but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. So it's more like "you can't count on being able to use xenial's nodejs on any system that has to build stuff against libssl-dev", which is pretty traumatic. The situation's better on cosmic. Backporting cosmic's nodejs to xenial isn't a great fix, though, because it has a different soname, so any packages that need node's shared library have to be rebuilt. And that breaks our user apps. As a workaround I'm using upstream's nodejs 8 on xenial, that seems to sidestep the openssl problem without causing the major version number problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1794589 Title: libssl1.0-dev conflicts libssl-dev To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nodejs/+bug/1794589/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
