[Bug 1818089] Re: Cups can not print with "filter failed" error just after ghostcript update

2019-02-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
That's your issue
  libfreetype.so.6 => /usr/local/lib/libfreetype.so.6 (0x7fdffae76000)

You have an outdated local installation you did that is taking over the
Ubuntu version, clean that one out and things should be back to working.
Closing since that's not an Ubuntu bug

[Bug 1406477] Re: KDE NM connection editor shuffles the connection list upon connection

2019-02-28 Thread Teunis Peters
Shuffling order randomly is terrible, especially if one needs to use a VPN.
(which will appear anywhere randomly among a list of usable and unusable
network connections).
It's a random shot over whether one can connect to VPN or is arbitrarily kicked
from network.

I'd wish we can stay away from
  /dev/nvidia* rw,
because that is what we might end up with (/dev/nvidia-uvm, /dev/nvidia[0-9],

[Bug 1817943] Re: OpenGL accel dev work doesn't work on nvidia card

2019-02-28 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thanks Bryan,
I'll only go for the formerly mentioned and these on the first try then:
  /proc/driver/nvidia/params r,
  /dev/nvidiactl r,

We might need more further down the road, but since we usually want to
start restrictive that will be our start.

[Bug 1814500] Re: [MIR] soupsieve (dependency of beautifulsoup4)

2019-02-28 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I almost forgot to state it here, this also covers the extra dep to
backports.functools-lru-cache.

TL;DR:
- I reviewed it and package content and quality looks fine
- we will be able to demote it "soon" once Openstack has let go python2 which
is WIP

Details:
[Duplication]
ok - Parth of the py3/py2 world, not a dup

[Embedded sources and static linking]
ok - no embedded sources or static linking
ok - no golang

[Security]
ok - this code is already acked as py3 code, the conversion does not imply a
new re-review
ok - no daemons, services, setuid, ...

[Common blockers]
ok - builds fine atm
acceptable - it has rather stripped down tests as it is a broken out
subfunction for something bigger - due to that those won't gate the build, not
perfect but acceptable.
ok - server Team will be the subscriber who currently own beautifulsoup4
ok - no translations needed
ok - dh_python is used
ok - it is a py2 dependency, but no new one and it will be demoted onye
Openstack has converted to py3

[Packaging red flags]
ok - no delta atm
ok - no symbols tracking for python
ok - has watch file
ok - updates are done regularly (by Debian)
ok - the current release is packaged
ok - no massive lintian warnings
ok - rather clean debian/rules
ok - no awkward build tweaks

[Upstream red flags]
ok - builds fine, no errors in the build
ok - no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (python after all)
ok - no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
ok - no Important bugs open, one minor already kindly handled by the Debian
maintainer
ok - no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
ok - no Embedded source copies

[Summary]
This can be promoted as well

Notes/TODOs:
For both packages we defined that the server Team will own them but were
waiting with the actual subscription until the process completes.
Therefore I pinged @powersj to do so, then this is really ready for promotion.

[Bug 1818188] [NEW] Failed to install guest OS with ubuntu-19.04-server-amd64.iso(daily build 2.25) in ESXi with AMD CPU.

2019-02-28 Thread vmware-gos-Yuhua via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Failed to install guestOS with ubuntu-19.04-server-amd64.iso(daily build
2.25) in ESXi with AMD CPU. We get continuous flash in the the process
“Select a language” of early install stage.

Please check the attached screenshot picture.
No this issue in ESXi with intel CPU.

The comment from dev Nick Shi in VMware:
Native install on AMD physical machine (HP DL385) did not allow to open the
screen either
You can get more detail on vmware bugzilla:
  https://bugzilla.eng.vmware.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2297183

So hit the issue not only in ESXi with AMD CPU but also physical machine with
AMD CPU.

** Affects: install-package (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

3, Then boot with "psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1" in cmdline.

[Bug 1814500] Re: [MIR] soupsieve (dependency of beautifulsoup4)

2019-02-28 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thanks Seth for the review.
The Lintian warning is fine, that is just because it has no Ubuntu Delta at the
moment.

I think overall this MIR concluded and is approved.

Since the code change to trigger is already waiting in disco-proposed:
beautifulsoup4 (4.6.3-2 to 4.7.1-1build1) in proposed for 25 days
  Unsatisfiable depends:
python-soupsieve: amd64
python3-soupsieve: amd64

The right state per [1] is "Fix Committed" and we now just need an AA to do the
promotion.
Setting state and pinging in ubuntu-release ...

[Bug 1818186] [NEW] Xsane does not scan only the area which is framed after "preview"

2019-02-28 Thread William T. Lowther
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04.2
Canon Pixma TS6220 vs HP Photosmart 6520

All of the following comments refer to my new Canon printer. Xsane with my
recently retired HP works perfectly (except, I think the Canon images are the
better).
The $ ubuntu-bug xsane report is with my Canon plugged in.

1) I am able to move the dashed lines to frame the print to be scanned,
but the output always contains the images of what ever is on the platen
on a "full size" white background.

2) I have selected “inches” as the unit of measurement, but the preview
window has “px” in the upper left corner, and the dimensions in the
windows at the bottom of the main menu are in pixels. These dimensions
do not change as I adjust the frame of the photo to be scanned and
always read 2480*3507*24 (24.9MB).

3) There are no length markings along the side or top of the preview
window.

4) In Advanced Options, the UOM displays “px”. The sliders change as I
adjust the frame, but for a 4” x 6” photo in the upper left corner, the
lower right corner is shown to be .00235x, .00154y.

5) The scanned image of the photos is very dark/saturated – beyond my
ability to correct.

6) Max scan resolution in the main menu is only 300, whereas it is 1200
with the HP scanner.

If I can be of any assistance in “testing”, please let me know.

Kind regards,
Bill

Upstream stable 4.4.169 changed the permissions on /proc/timer_list so
the test needs to be updated.

[Bug 1818167] [NEW] Canon Pixma TS6220 will not print with drvr Canon TS6000 series - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.13-2

2019-02-28 Thread William T. Lowther
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
CUPS Installed: 2.2.7-1ubuntu2.3

The printer can print using drvr Canon TS6200 series Ver.5.70(en).
But with the Gutenprint driver, printing files or test pages causes
a response on the control panel of the printer, but no action mechanically.
When the control panel returns to its normal idle state, the "job" is
reported as completed.

[Bug 1814500] Re: [MIR] soupsieve (dependency of beautifulsoup4)

2019-02-28 Thread Seth Arnold
Because this package is derived from code that was previously in main,
we decided to give this package a very light review.

I reviewed version 1.8+dfsg-1 from disco. I needed to enable the
-proposed pocket in order to build this package. (Probably that's the
whole point of this process.)

The code looked dense but careful. Errors were checked, there were
extensive tests. pre/post inst/rm scripts were generated.

There was a lintian error during my build; is this an issue?

Setting up sbuild-build-depends-lintian-dummy (0.invalid.0) ...
E: soupsieve changes: bad-distribution-in-changes-file unstable

E: Lintian run failed (policy violation)

Security team ACK for promoting soupsieve to main.

Thanks

Those are two separate issues. The first one is bug 1748565. So let's
make this bug about the second issue. I can't see the
kobject_add_internal_failed error in your kernel log, so where do you
see it?

** Changed in: bluez (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

- Bugs probably in firmware:
-
- Bluetooth: hci0: last event is not cmd complete (0x0f)
-
- are causing:
-
kobject_add_internal_failed for hci0:11 with --EEXIST, don't try to
register things with the same name in the same directory

-
- This issue is about kernel - it shouldn't rely on state of unrealiable
propertary drivers. Sometimes rmmod all bluetooth modules helps, sometimes
restart is just faster.

[Bug 1773959] Re: High CPU usage by gnome-shell when only running gnome-terminal

2019-02-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Pedro, please answer comment #18. I would like to know if 18.10 or 19.04
has changed the situation for you.

---

Nicolas, this bug is not about showing seconds in the clock. Please
comment in bug 1814125 instead for that issue and not here. Or log a new
bug.

---

Mark, this bug is about the CPU usage of the gnome-shell process only,
when displaying a terminal and nothing else. If you experience any other
problem then please open a new bug.

---

Roland, there is insufficient information in this bug at the moment and
some irrelevant comments. So no, nobody is working on it because we're
not sure any bug exists. Also be careful to remember that this bug is
about the CPU usage of the gnome-shell process only when displaying a
terminal and nothing else. If you experience any other problem then
please open a new bug.

[Bug 1666203] Re: pam_tty_audit failed in pam_open_session

2019-02-28 Thread Eric Desrochers
[VERIFICATION BIONIC]
It has been brought to my attention the following (by an impacted user):

I have enabled the "-proposed" pocket and done the following:
1) Logged into workstation, elevated to root
2) Installed packages from "-proposed": libpam0g libpam-modules
libpam-modules-bin libpam-runtime
3) Updated /etc/pam.d/common-session and common-session-interactive
4) Started a second session as a regular user and performed a number of console
commands, then exited session
5) From the first (root) session, executed "aureport --tty -i".
- The output of the audit report looks good.

If I attempt to perform the same test on another workstation, using the
original libpam packages (e.g. skipping step 2) then the test fails at
step 4, as the user cannot login. In the logs PAM complains about an
invalid parameter on the pam_tty_audit.so line (enable=*).

[Bug 1624320] Re: systemd-resolved appends 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf alongside existing entries

2019-02-28 Thread David Litster
Also affects me.

I cannot believe that this is still set to low. This is yet another
case of the systemd circus-tools causing unexpected behavior for long-
time linux users.

This breaks local DNS resolution in my homelab. I should NOT have to do
a Google search to fix this, it should just work properly (like it used
to).

Fresh install of 18.04.2. Notice that systemd is incapable of giving me
a lookup on my local LAN:

[Bug 1817903] Re: systemd-resolve appends "options edns0" to resolv.conf

2019-02-28 Thread Dan Streetman
** Description changed:

  [impact]

systems upgraded from pre-Bionic releases to Bionic or later will
continue to use ifupdown/resolvconf for network conf and management, but
resolvconf has a new systemd service in Bionic and later that pulls
systemd-resolved stub-resolv.conf into its local configuration. With
the recent addition of edns0 option to the stub resolver conf in systemd
to fix bug 1811471, this means resolvconf now sets up the
/etc/resolv.conf file to include upstream servers but also use edns.
For any systems where the upstream resolver(s) don't support edns, dns
  lookups will break.

  [test case]

- create a xenial system with ifupdown/resolvconf, then upgrade to bionic
- (alternately it should be possible to install bionic, then remove
- netplan and install/configure ifupdown and resolvconf). The system
- ifupdown config should include an upstream name server.
+ == upgrade from pre-bionic (e.g. xenial) to bionic or later ==

- After upgrade, the /etc/resolv.conf will contain both the upstream name
- server as well as options edns0.
+ 1) create a xenial system with ifupdown/resolvconf. The ifupdown config
+ needs to include an upstream name server (either static or dynamic). At
+ this point, once the network is configured and up, the resolvconf should
+ have put the upstream name server(s) and search domain into the
+ /etc/resolv.conf. As is usual for pre-systemd releases, there should be
+ no local dns resolver in /etc/resolv.conf (i.e. 127.0.0.53 should not be
+ included) at this point.
+
+ 2) upgrade the system to bionic (alternately it should be possible to install
bionic, then remove netplan and install/configure ifupdown and resolvconf, but
I have not specifically tested this). The upgrade will retain the
ifupdown/resolvconf configuration, and will not change to
netplan/systemd-networkd. After upgrade is finished, the /etc/resolv.conf will
contain:
+ a) the upstream name server(s)
+ b) options edns0
+ c) the local stub resolver (127.0.0.53)
+ d) search domain
+
+ the fixed resolvconf will remove (b) and (c), and restore
+ /etc/resolv.conf to what it contained in Xenial release, before the
+ upgrade to Bionic.
+
+ As mentioned, this case also should cover the situation of a native
+ Bionic install, where netplan is removed and ifupdown/resolvconf is
+ manually installed.
+
+ == bionic or later install ==
+
+ with a bionic install, ifupdown is not installed, instead netplan
+ /systemd-networkd handle networking. In this case, systemd-networkd
+ manages the /etc/resolv.conf, and symlinks it to networkd's stub-
+ resolv.conf which always contains only the local stub resolver
+ (127.0.0.53) and (recently) options edns0, and local search domain.
+
+ If resolvconf is installed while systemd-networkd is managing the
+ network, then currently the resolv.conf contents will remain completely
+ unchanged, still pointing to the local stub resolver.
+
+ This resolvconf change will alter that, to revert the /etc/resolv.conf
+ to Xenial's contents; specifically, the upstream name server(s) and
+ search domain. It will no longer include the local stub resolver nor
+ edns0.

  [regression potential]

- this changes how resolvconf handles system dns on bionic and later:
+ Regressions due to this change would likely be seen in dns query
+ failures with other system configurations.

- 1) networking is managed by ifupdown
-
- resolvconf is currently adding the local stub resolver to
- /etc/resolv.conf, even though in this case it doesn't know about any
- upstream name servers. This change will remove the local stub resolver
- from /etc/resolv.conf; it should not be there.
-
- 2) networking is managed by systemd-networkd
-
- resolvconf is currently setting up /etc/resolv.conf to direct all local
- dns queries to the local stub resolver, similar to how systemd-resolved
- itself configures /etc/resolv.conf. This change will instead set up
- /etc/resolv.conf to bypass the local stub resolver, and send all dns
- queries to the upstream name server(s).
-
- In case #1, this change has little chance for regression; in case #2
- however, this change will bypass the local stub resolver and thus create
- more network dns traffic (since dns queries will not be cached locally).
- However, this is how pre-Bionic releases worked, and simply removing
- resolvconf will restore systemd-resolved control of /etc/resolv.conf,
- causing the system to again use the local stub resolver.
-
- Additional regressions due to this change would likely be seen in dns
- query failures with other system configurations.
+ Additionally, for the case where systemd-networkd is actually managing
+ the network, this change will stop sending dns traffic to the local stub
+ resolver, and instead send it to the upstream name server(s). This will
+ increase outgoing dns traffic (since it's no longer cached locally), but
+ will matches the behavior from Xenial. Additionally,

[Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled

2019-02-28 Thread Herb Miller Jr.
Is there any hope of this being backported to 16.04? This is a big
problem for our customers running our digital signage players running
16.04. This is a pretty critical bug to leave unaddressed in an LTS that
still has two years of support left.

[Bug 1573095] Re: Cloud images fail to boot when a serial port is not available

2019-02-28 Thread Jeremy Busk
While you can workaround the issue with

```
sudo sed -i 's/ console=ttyS0//g' /etc/default/grub.d/50-cloudimg-settings.cfg
sudo update-grub
```

You need ttyS0 in grub in order to interact with vm guest using

```
virsh console
```

I added a bug to virtualbox as it could be a compound issue or an issue
on how they handle ttyS0 from os.

[Bug 1818162] [NEW] arm-smmu-v3 arm-smmu-v3.3.auto: CMD_SYNC timeout

2019-02-28 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
During heavy load, the following message may appear on the console of a
HiSilicon D06 system:

arm-smmu-v3 arm-smmu-v3.3.auto: CMD_SYNC timeout

This is due to a bug that can also impact system performance, as the CPU
is blocked until the timeout occurs.

[Test Case]
The Ubuntu server certification test suite hits this pretty reliably during the
stress-ng tests, although I haven't narrowed it down to exactly which test yet.

[Regression Risk]
Limited to arm64 systems. This change has been upstream since 4.20 w/o any
noticed regressions (based on lack of Fixes: commits). Regressions could
manifest as a performance hit.

I tried to look for the error 903 but the github page is no longer available
I'm running it in ubuntu 18.10 if that helps.
I hope anyone can help me out

[Bug 1817559] Re: update-notifier ignores update-manager's settings

2019-02-28 Thread Steve Langasek
Changing the setting for how often to automatically check for updates to
'Never' instructs the system not to automatically run 'apt-get update'
to check for updates. It does not invalidate the results of a previous
'apt-get update' run which has already found that there are updates
waiting to be applied.

If there are already security updates waiting to be applied, the
behavior when "Automatically check for updates" is set to "Never" is
effectively undefined. This is the "When there are security updates:
" - the option is greyed out but in practice what this actually
means is that the behavior is the same as "Display immediately".

I am inclined to argue that this is a bug in software-properties, which
should *show* that any available security updates will still result in a
prompt, not a bug in update-notifier for doing the prompting. The
difference between the two, after all, is a one-time pop-up that is
easily resolved by applying the security updates.

Making it easier to ignore security updates than it already is would be
an antifeature.
