[Bug 1819362] Re: HUAWEI E3531 HSPA+ USB Stick "please report the device ID to the Linux USB developers"
usb_modeswitch did once upon a time check that a driver bound to the dongles interface(s) and if not then it did a modeprobe of the option serial driver. If it still didn't get option to bind then it added the dongles usb id to option's new_id and if the driver bound then it asked the user to report the usb id to usb kernel developers so that it could be properly added to the driver. There were too often conflicts between usb_modeswitch's driver loading and the kernels driver loading so it was decided after discussions with among others one of the modemmanager's developers to completely remove from usb_modeswitch any check for driver binding and forcing of driver binding. In short: usb_modeswitch is a userland switching utility which should leave the task of loading drivers to the kernel and not interfere with that. The driver checking/loading function was removed almost 3 years ago: "Version 2.4.0, 2016/06/12 ATTENTION: All ad-hoc driver binding code (using new_id driver attribute) removed - was a potential source of side effects and should now be obsoleted by good kernel support for modems" It seems that canonical doesn't agree and has re-introduced the driver checking/loading in their own implementation of later usb_modeswitch version. Regarding switching of E3531 with usb id 12d1:1f01 I can say that it is done with the linux switch message given by Huawei. They intend this device to become 12d1:14dc with a direct ethernet interface and no serial interfaces. Huawei has different switch messages for Windows, Mac, linux, and since a few years back also for Android. Early Huawei Android builds did only have support for ppp serial dial-up so the Android switch message brought up serial interfaces instead of net interfaces. usb_modeswitch is also used in Android and has the Android switch message included from version 2.5.1. usb_modeswitch can globally use the Android message by setting "HuaweiAltModeGlobal" in usb_modeswitch.conf or individually per modem by setting "HuaweiAltMode" in the modem config file. usb_modeswitch will continue to use the linux switch message for all Huawei modems, it is up to the end user to either select the right modem for his requirement (which often is serial ports for SMS operation) or to drop a new modem config file into /etc/usb_modeswitch.d which will override the one provided in /usr/share/usb_modeswitch. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1819362 Title: HUAWEI E3531 HSPA+ USB Stick "please report the device ID to the Linux USB developers" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1819362/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1820560] [NEW] color picker hex# field only takes 5 out of 6 chars
Public bug reported: >From the highlight color button on the toolbar, you Left click on custom color. That opens a window called "Pick a color". If you select the hex number field (which was filled with "ff"), and you type in 6 characters, it only takes the first 5 characters because it has still left the last "f". It ignores your last character entered, no matter what character you enter, and it leaves the f in the place of the 6th character. So then you have to take another step to select the "f" and delete it, or to put the cursor at the end of the line, backspace over the f, and enter whatever was supposed to be the 6th character. ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1820560 Title: color picker hex# field only takes 5 out of 6 chars To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1820560/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 1820230] Re: spotify (snap) starts in fullscreen without windows decorations
Thanks. It looks like gnome-shell is generally doing the right thing. It notices an app is trying to place itself over the full screen and accepts that as a old-style fullscreen request. Nothing unusual there. Gnome Shell is behaving correctly for a window manager. The only problem here is that there's no way to escape (restore and resize) such automatic fullscreening in gnome-shell. But also I think that's normal. I'm not aware of any window managers that do offer that. So I don't think it's reasonable to ask for a gnome-shell enhancement to work around this problem. It's Spotify's fault for firstly suggesting it wants to be fullscreen and then not remembering that it requested fullscreen. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1820230 Title: spotify (snap) starts in fullscreen without windows decorations To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1820230/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1820525] Re: Pdfshuffler is about to disappear
As discussed on IRC: A package being dropped as unsupportable isn't really a functional bug (which you'd file a bug report on). According to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=917831 'pdfshuffler' is going to be replaced by an actively maintained fork, 'pdfarranger', in Debian. [Bug 1611945] Re: /dev/disk/by-path not properly populated for (e)SATA port multiplier disks
I saw the discussion in zfs-discuss and read a bit for fun. To answer some old questions from what i understood from linked resources: This bug/deficiency seem to make it impossible to see all drives behind a port multiplier when using links in /dev/disk/by-path/ but not other links, making the drives unadressable by slot. This can be fixed by patching systemd. Why this haven't been done seems to be summarized here: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/3943#issuecomment-404996399 The patch submitted here seems to be outdated, later one found here: https://github.com/sitsofe/systemd/commit/ee26c33ede684138ba9fdc7f286bfa402860aff3 IMHO, the easiest (but not easy) way to add this patch in Ubuntu on your own would be to create an PPA and rebuild systemd from ubuntu with the patch added. Note that you'll be responsible for keeping your systemd- package up to date on your own and that changes can be made upstream that breaks the patch. It could be added in the official ubuntu package of systemd, but I'm guessing they don't want to add a patch that adds a naming scheme for drives that later might change when the proper fix mentioned last in the first link is implemented. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1611945 Title: /dev/disk/by-path not properly populated for (e)SATA port multiplier disks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1611945/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1690085]
I assume there is several (at least two) similar problems that cause spontaneous system hangs. One of them is mwait bug listed in AMD errata. Looks like idle=halt is partial workaround for this. But, as said in AMD community forum, guest OS in virtual machine may execute mait instruction and provoke this bug. Luckily, mwait is not common for user-space applications (still not sure about that). Another is power supply problem. This may be caused by unsupported PSU (no 0A 12V) or unsuitable power subsystem on motherboard. This may be partially (again!) solved by BIOS "typical current idle" option or disabling C6 states by .py script. IMO this bios option may be implemented not properly in some mobos firmware. Looks like it only "says to OS" do not use C-states, but does not prevent deep sleep on hw level. Here we got [Firmware Bug]: ACPI MWAIT C-state 0x0 not supported by HW (0x0) in dmesg and problem persists. Have read some forums with assures of completely stable Ryzen systems work under Linux without any tweks. So not really too many systems affected by mwait and PSU lockups. I think some combination of factors may provoke this behavior. Mobo+PSU, memory latency (why not?) or some vendor-provided bios config. Also in some cases these two problems may appear together. Obviously, segfaults or amdgpu crashes is not related to this bug. [Bug 1690085]
The PSU problem sounds like a weak excuse from AMD or may they are talking about very very bad 10 dollars units. The BIOS options "typical/low current" doesn't seems to change the c-states set up by the kernel routines here. With any selection, I always end up with c0 POLL c1 ACPI HLT c2 ACPI IOPORT 0x414 as you can see with cpufreq cpupower idle-info or /usr/src/linux/tools/power/x86/turbostat/turbostat -n1 That happens because the firmware already informed the kernel mwait/monitor cannot be used for c-states. If idle=halt is used, there is no c-state management and the idl instruction is used to put a core in idle mode. I think it is the hyper treading handling that is somehow bugged, somewhere. Also note that many ryzen users overclock their machine and if you overclock, you have to c-state problems at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690085 Title: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1690085/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1819915] Re: s2disk freezes at saving image to disk (hibernation)
Another thing I noticed is that changing from one DE to another does change nothing, Gnome or KDE same issue. A weird non tech way to describe it, which is what I can tell, Is that it seems like when my system haven't used more than 2gb of memory yet, I am able to hibernate and restore how many times I want. Otherwise If I try to hibernate when more than 2 gb are used this problem happens. Also if I open a heavy program like chrome, using more than 2gb and close it quickly, with the system going back to less than 2gb usage, I have the same problem back again. So it really seems like after I used something that is about 2gb this error happens, even if I close everything, exit xorg and go back to a 500 mb ram usage and try hibernating from the tty. I tried recreating my swap partition, which has 16gb of space, so nothing against 2 gb?!?... but nothing fixes this. By the way I have less than 16 gb of space left on my home partition and / partition but I really don't think this would affect anything since I'm not using those.
