[Bug 1738263] Re: Touchpad not working and locking CPU

2019-05-02 Thread Luke Williams
So I updated to Disco with the touchpad on the Asus GL702VD and for the
most part, it works, I can right click and left click and use 2 fingers
to scroll, however, while I tail the /var/log/syslog I get a bunch of
the following errors that repeat, where with the 4.18 kernel these are
suppressed:

May 3 05:16:56 ubuntu /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1719]: (EE) event5 -
ELAN1200:00 04F3:3090 Touchpad: kernel bug: Touch jump detected and discarded.
May 3 05:16:56 ubuntu /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1719]: See
https://wayland.freedesktop.org/libinput/doc/1.12.6/touchpad-jumping-cursors.html
 for details

However, I still have the same issue where if I touch the touchpad with
all 5 fingers, it locks up the touchpad and I have to use a USB mouse to
use the cursor. I also get the following error from the syslog:

May 3 05:16:58 ubuntu kernel: [ 424.991449] i2c_designware
i2c_designware.0: i2c_dw_handle_tx_abort: lost arbitration

The only way to get it to work is to reboot the system.

Also, the only way I could get Disco to work was in Graphic safe mode
otherwise the system boots, and then locks up shortly after starting the
desktop. I tried to boot up using modeset.nouveau=0 but it still locks
up requiring a hard reset. However, in graphics safe mode, the system is
useable. Once I install Ubuntu and use the proprietary nVidia graphics,
I can then use the Fx buttons again and most of the shortcut Fn buttons
work (calculator, fan control, brightness, contrast still do not work
from press Fn+F5-F8 and I cannot put it in airplane mode (fn+F12) but
sleep mode does work (Fn+F11)

I can provide more details/logs if you let me know what you need.

Thanks

[Bug 1807962] Re: please allow alg socket for af-alg

2019-05-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Daniel,
since af-alg is part of the very uncommonly used -extra-plugins and a fix for
the user is trivially available this was not backported to not affect any
existing systems (suddenly activating more function on an SRU update).

The fix (if affected and important to you) prior to Ubuntu 19.04 is to edit:
  /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.swanctl
and there add the line:
  # for af-alg plugin
  network alg seqpacket,

That will fix the issue for you as well then.

2019-05-02 Thread Alrick Grandison
Launching with the Kernel 4.15.0.47.50 v4.15.0-47.50 resolves the issue.
The more recent kernel (above this one) has the issue. Seems the more
recent kernel introduces some bug that needs to be fixed.

[Bug 1803179] Re: System does not reliably come out of suspend

2019-05-02 Thread M K
HDMI issue on optimus laptops (e.g. HP Spectre x360 - 15) can be fixed
by disabling modesetting in the following file:

sudo vi /lib/modprobe.d/nvidia-kms.conf
# This file was generated by nvidia-prime
# Set value to 0 to disable modesetting
options nvidia-drm modeset=0

After this prime switching works correctly and HDMI works for NVIDIA
card.

Tested nvidia-driver-430 but the system still does not come reliable
from suspend.

[Bug 1783085] Re: open-vm-tools-dkms 2:10.0.7-3227872-5ubuntu1~16.04.2: open-vm-tools kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_timer_deferrable’]

2019-05-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
this is a bit of a special case, let me try to add some info.
The DKMS module fails - yes, but that module isn't needed at all anymore.

This DKMS provided
- vmhgfs which is replaced with fuse
- and all other modules are part of the kernel
- the only module left being installed by it is the vmxnet driver, which is
deprecated in favor of
  the in kernel "vmxnet3" module

Due to the above it was first dropped from recommends in 2:10.1.5-5055683-4
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=860857) requested by VMWare.
And later on completely dropped as it really isn't needed at all.

In your particular case there would be the backport of 10.2
"2:10.2.0-3~ubuntu0.16.04.1" which is recommended for plenty of new
fixes/features in particular to work with new VMWare versions. And among
many other changes this will drop the dkms package and therefore resolve
the issue building it against the newer kernel.

I hope the explanation helps to understand the case here, but the bug is
"fixed" in the new version.

2019-05-02 Thread Teresa e Junior
I haven't been bitten by this bug with an uptime of 9 days with
workaround #42. But I had not the opportunity to test suspending my
laptop during this time.

Also, I recommend creating /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf instead of
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf. Files under /usr/share can be
lost during package updates.

[Bug 1827407] Re: Touchpad scrolling becomes glitchy or unresponsive

2019-05-02 Thread Timo Aaltonen
It's likely caused by the kernel. You should have some older kernel
versions installed, but if not, you can install them via 'apt install
linux-image-4.15.0-NN-generic' where NN is a number.

18.04 released with -20 (I think..), so pick something after that and
'bisect' these builds until you find the first version where it broke.
Remember to select the correct kernel from the boot menu. It should be
fairly easy to spot the offending commit in a specific kernel update.

[Bug 1827460] Re: [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH, playback] No sound at all

2019-05-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can see a few audio-related error messages in your kernel log. But
even if that wasn't true then I would still suggest this is most likely
a kernel bug.

In case the problem happens to be pulseaudio crashing, please follow
these instructions first:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

If you couldn't find any evidence of 'pulseaudio' crashing in the past

[Bug 1827460] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH, playback] No sound at all

2019-05-02 Thread Alrick Grandison
Public bug reported:

My Lenovo ideapad 330 laptop with Ubuntu 18.04 sounds works fine
initially. However, when I close it down (to sleep) and then return,
all the sound disappears. The only way to get back the sound is to
restart the laptop. The issue seem to start after a recent automatic
update.

[Bug 1827459] [NEW] xubuntu 19.10: keybindings are not working (ctrl+alt+T ptrscr, etc do nothing)

2019-05-02 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

Xubuntu 19.10 (daily) QA-testing

On booting today's daily ISO on systems, 4 of 8 systems tested did not
have functioning key bindings on boot. The result is pressing ,
++, + etc would do nothing.

This report is made on first of the systems that had this issue :-

dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd
5000/6000/7350/8350)
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt)
lenovo thinkpad x201 (i5, 4gb, i915)

Two of these systems have two displays (share screens so same setup)
which have issues with trying to adjust right display to portrait(left)
or on clicking 'apply' nothing occurs but apply box remains 'grey' -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1821652

In that bug Theo's suggested `XFSETTINGSD_DEBUG=1 xfsettingsd --replace
--no-daemon`, where I noticed the `xfsettingsd --replace --no-daemon` on
each listed system here caused the CTRL+ALT+T and other keybaord
bindings to work (plus fix screen issue in other bug report).

Strangely, I rebooted the x201 (thinkpad) and it didn't have this issue on
reboot, a third boot and it was there again

** Description changed:

Hopefully all the necessary info is in the extra stuff that
  automatically got sent.

Basically, I didn't do anything fancy, but audio recorded with my
microphone (through Skype, and arecord in the Terminal) has tons of
static and the voice is distorted or saturated.

Booting this computer on Windows doesn't have issues, so that's why I
don't think it's the computer, I think it's the OS.

  Thanks!

[Bug 1827194] Re: Loading a subtitled mkv file while already playing a subtitled mkv file makes the UI freeze

2019-05-02 Thread mattiasje
Yes Sebastien, a .crash file appears in /var/crash/ if I killall -ABRT
totem.

However, as there's so much talk of crashing, I want to stress that the
entire program has not crashed. It still listens, and obeys, a click on
the close button. I just noticed that you can even navigate the UI and
even load a new (not subtitled) file and it'll play.

The issue comes from playing one subtitled video, trying to load a new
(or the same) subtitled video, and the video portion of the UI getting
stuck and the video not playing.

In previous versions of Ubuntu, trying this meant a full crash. Clicking
the close button led to a wait for the force quit option. But now in
19.04, the program is alive. It just can't play the video. It's not an
issue of the video being paused either, clicking the play/pause button
does nothing and the seek bar can't be interacted with.

[Bug 1799213] Re: Gtk-CRITICAL gtk_widget_destroy: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

2019-05-02 Thread Moses Moore
I've upgraded to 19.04 since, with network-manager-gnome 1.8.20-1ubuntu1
. It bleats some error messages to stderr on startup, but not a
constant stream like before:

(nm-applet:13762): Gtk-WARNING **: 22:45:40.305: Can't set a parent on widget
which has a parent

Subject: [Bug 1827354] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop reports error on startup

When you get the "error" dialog that means something crashed, so...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

Hello,

can you describe what that "Strange sounds" sounds like?
Or provide an audio recording for this.

normally your motherboard can only generate beep sounds, anything other
that that might indicates a HW failure.

Thanks

Non-linear solvers are pretty complicated and that is why the interface

the usage of IF and NOT functions. Yes, it requires a little bit more
efforts in building of the model, but the final goal can be achieved.

[Bug 1827417] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - EMU10K1 / CT4832 lost ability to listen stereo on headphones - there is upmixed surround only.

2019-05-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

Firstly, please run this command to send us more information about the
machine:

  apport-collect 1827417

and in future you can avoid that by reporting bugs using the 'ubuntu-
bug' command.

Secondly, it sounds to me that this regression would most likely have
been the result of a kernel update, as audio regressions often are. So
please try some older (or newer) kernels and see if you can find some
that don't have the bug:

[Bug 1827372] Re: Error when configuring bond, can't proceed with installation

Ah this is the bug about searchdomains. You can workaround it by not
setting any searchdomains and configuring later, or switching to tty2
and running "sudo snap refresh subiquity".

[Bug 1825953] Re: Alt+Tab works with a wrong behaviour

I like the idea of making it an option for the user to choose their
preferred behaviour. But I also don't have a strong opinion on the
matter so am not volunteering to add such an option.

[Bug 1827354] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop reports error on startup

2019-05-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt

[Bug 1827446] Re: Unable to switch back to nvidia after suspend on intel

2019-05-02 Thread Jean-Francois Labonte
The issue happens also when I am using lightdm

This is the result of my nvidia-smi

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/sj2bF3vxPd/

The dmesg when I have the issue:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/sj2bF3vxPd/

** Description changed:

I am not sure that it is something that an issue caused by nvidia-prime
or if it is something that is cause in the drivers or if it is a bug with
the kernel itself, cause it seems to be a problem with Linux PM, so this bug
  could be moved if needed

  *** What's Wrong? ***

As the title states, I am unable to use the Nvidia GPU when I have
changed profile for intel then computer on suspend for more than 30
minutes ( This has to be determined precisely how long until I get the
issue ) and then set back the profile to nvidia.

So basically, it seems that the nvidia modules are unable to be loaded, I
have tried to fix
the issue using bbswitch. It doesn't work neither, if the
/sys/bus/pci/devices/\:01\:00.0/power/control is set to auto, I am unable
to load the kernel modules anymore.

  *** What do I expect ***

Well, I was hoping that I would be able to keep my laptop on and simply
switch from one GPU to other
seamlessly. It is, until I put my laptop on suspend for an extended time
while I am on powersaving mode

Thanks Alexey. That worked, but since terminal is now a snap, it
crashes docky shortly after startup.

[Bug 1827450] [NEW] Some context menu entries are unavailable in list view if folder has many items for nautilus 1:3.26.4-0~ubuntu18.04.4

2019-05-02 Thread widon1104
Public bug reported:

This is a bug for nautilus old version and already been fixed.
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/41

But nautilus for ubuntu18.04 still have this problem, I Know Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
Will Get 10-Year Support, this quiet a very long time. I wish ubuntu will merge
some the fix patch to nautilus,
otherwise we will bear this bug for 10 years.

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
