[Bug 1831840] [NEW] Support new ums-realtek device

2019-06-05 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Realtek storage device uses usb-storage by default. It works but we should use
ums-realtek to bring more functionality, e.g. enabling/disabling MMC card
detection.

[Fix]
Add its device ID to the driver.

[Test]
After this patch applied, we can use enable_mmc module option to control MMC
detection.

[Regression Potential]
Low. The scope is limited to one device, and the driver is quite stable.

[Bug 1767259] Re: ubuntu 18.04 The 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' package failed to install into / targer.

2019-06-05 Thread Ken Hughes
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1767703 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767703

I encountered this today while trying to install 18.04.2. I previously
installed Linux Mint 19.1 on the same UEFI SSD with Secure Boot enabled with no
issues.
1) After the 18.04.2 failed I deleted the existing partitions; that didn't help.
2) I then reinstalled Mint 19.1, again with no problems.
3) Tried 18.04.2, failed again. Before running ubiquity I tried installing
grub-efi-amd64-signed using apt-get but got errors complaining about unmet
dependencies.
4) I rebooted the USB installer and tried again, and when it failed saved the
system log (attached). It shows the same errors with grub-efi-amd64-signed.

[Bug 1831828] [NEW] [SRU][B/B-OEM/C/D/OEM-OSP1] Add RTL8822 wifi driver rtw88

2019-06-05 Thread AaronMa
Public bug reported:

SRU justification:

[Impact]
RTL8822BE/RTL8822CE need new driver rtw88 supports.

[Fix]
This is a new mac80211 driver for Realtek 802.11ac wireless network chips.
And it needs new firmware too.

[Test]
Verified on hardware. Tests result are good.

[Regression Potential]
Low, it introducs the new driver to enable new wifi chips supports.
2 more upstream commits are introduced:
e7d4a95da bitfield: fix *_encode_bits()
00b0c9b82 Add primitives for manipulating bitfields both in host- and
fixed-endian.
These 2 commits add "le32p_replace_bits" functions that rtw88 uses.
They introduced new operator of bitfields since 4.16 kernel, don't change exsit
funtions.
C/D/OEM-OSP-1 don't need these 2 patches.

These firmwares are already in disco.

[Bug 1831514] Re: Ubuntu 19.04 system update causes boot failure

2019-06-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1798790 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1798790

It sounds like Ubuntu automatically installed the proprietary Nvidia
driver for you. This is confirmed by your screenshot, but was obvious
from the beginning since your bug report (at the top of this page) says:

  NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia

I personally recommend you keep that driver because the open source
alternative is less reliable and more buggy.

[Bug 1831827] [NEW] Update to 1.48

2019-06-05 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
A newer snapd-glib is available that adds support for new features in snapd.
snapd-glib has an SRU exception as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SnapdGlibUpdates

[Test Case]
The reverse depends of snapd-glib should continue to function, this is
currently:
- gnome-software
- gnome-initial-setup
- pulseaudio

[Regression Potential]
Any new release has a risk of introducing bugs, this is mitigated by automatic
regression tests.

[Bug 1817321] Re: installer does not support iSCSI iBFT

2019-06-05 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
verification done for cosmic/hw-detect.

disk-detect found the iscsi target/lun configured in ibft.

cosmic currently needed the workaround to download/install
the iscsi_ibft.ko module, because the d-i changes are not
yet in (update to kernel version to includes it in scsi-modules.udeb).

[Bug 1773324] Re: rabbitmqadmin shows %%VSN%% as version

2019-06-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Alvin,

Good progress! And thanks for documenting the patch. I would suggest a
few changes:

* Instead of calling it 'mypatch.diff' give it a descriptive name, like
'fix-version-string.patch'

* In the patch metadata, make sure to replace all the stuff in . For example, instead of:

Description: Replace %%VSN%% in rabbitmqadmin with version number

Bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rabbitmq-server/+bug/1773324

[Bug 1831808] [NEW] nexttowardl for ppc64el generates wrong results

2019-06-05 Thread Hubert Tong
Public bug reported:

On PPC, the non-IEEE 128-bit long double is represented as a pair of
doubles. This means that for 1.L, the next representable value in the
direction of 2.L should be 1.L + DBL_EPSILON. The nexttowardl function
does not seem to produce such a result.

To reproduce, compile and link the following C program and run the
resulting executable. The actual output and the expected output is
provided below.

### SOURCE ():
long double nexttowardl(long double, long double);
int printf(const char *, ...);

int main(void) {
  long double eps = nexttowardl(0.L, 1.L);
  long double ans = nexttowardl(1.L, 2.L);
  long double ref = 1.L + eps;
  typedef unsigned char *ucp;
  for (ucp p = (ucp) p < (ucp)&1[]; ++p) {
printf("%02hhx", *p);
  }
  printf("\n");
  for (ucp p = (ucp) p < (ucp)&1[]; ++p) {
printf("%02hhx", *p);
  }
  printf("\n");
}

### COMPILER INVOCATION:
gcc -xc - -lm

### RUN OUTPUT:
f03f0100
f03f6039

### EXPECTED OUTPUT:
f03f0100

[Bug 301481] Re: would not install

Jullian, thanks for your response!

I certainly understand you having "moved on" from the hardware mentioned
in your report. Given the time that has lapsed, I wondered if I would
even receive a response. Still, in an effort to be thorough and work
through some "cold cases" I wanted to touch base with you.

Best regards,
Mike Dombrowski

[Bug 1831441] Re: Please add WS-Discovery ( WSD ) support for Windows Samba server discovery.

2019-06-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Meanwhile, for implementing this particular fix in-distro, it may be
cleanest to package wsdd as its own discrete source package, and have
Samba depend on it as Recommends. While it is just a single python
script, it has several python dependencies, which may be easier to
manage separately from samba itself, and the project appears to be
actively maintained at present (https://github.com/christgau/wsdd/) so
we may expect to see updates to the script.

wsdd is covered under the MIT License, so since this issue likely
affects Debian as well, it may be worth submitting the package to
Debian. The issue this fixes seems to be fairly widespread so there
could be broad interest in this solution.

[Bug 1359836] Re: Ubuntu ISOs downloaded insecurely, over HTTP rather than HTTPS

2019-06-05 Thread Thomas Mayer
@seth-arnold

There we go and let an imaginary grandma (she's a non-DD) verify an
ubuntu ISO image via gpg. Of course, she will know by herself which DSA
key IDs are trusted and not just extract the (MITM-compromised) IDs from
the (MITM-compromised) SHA256SUMS.gpg as described in
https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-verify-ubuntu#3
The attacker then can't trick our grandma in verifying the (MITM-
compromised) ubuntu ISO. Bravo.

I cite: "This is actually a really useful message, as it tells us which
key or keys were used to generate the signature file. [...] Knowing
these ID numbers [...], means we can request them from the Ubuntu key
server.".

No way, it's NOT useful at all. We don't want to see the MITM's DSA key IDs
when processing a MITM-compromised SHA256SUMS.gpg file. We don't want to
download the attackers keys via hkp and never ever do we want to verify the
MITM-compromised our ISO using the attacker's keys.

I was just revisiting the download dialogue. For me, this whole
discussion turned into an academic one because when starting the
download, the user _now_ gets shown an ubuntu-domain-https-secured
checksum for the download. Hooray. It's that simple. That is pretty much
what I was waiting for for years - and something we already had a couple
of years ago.

https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/thank-
you?country=DE=18.04.2=amd64

For the downloads themselves, https only makes downloads from ubuntu domain
trustworthy. For mirrors, verification via trustworthy checksums is still
needed, be it with http or https downloads from a (non-trusted) mirror. Still,
having https for mirrors protects from MITM attacks between user and mirror.
When users leave out the verification (out of lazyness or lack of knowledge),
this can still mitigate a portion of the attacks which would have been
successful otherwhise. But there's no guarantee any more.

Ref. for windows dropping SMB1:
*
https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Storage-at-Microsoft/Stop-using-SMB1/ba-p/425858

Good info on how Samba was affected by this:
*
https://superuser.com/questions/1322497/did-windows-10-april-update-break-network-discovery-and-samba-support?rq=1

>From Samba's FAQ, it looks like there has been some work upstream at

>file's README.md references this work):
* https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/FAQ
* https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11473

Of note, this review comment:

"""
- Is WSD only based on HTTP (via TCP)?
  If so would it make sense to reuse some of source4/web_server/
  and implement WSD in python?
  Just as an idea, using xml in C always scares me..
"""

It would probably be a good idea to post a mention of this wsdd-master
to the Samba bug report. They may already be aware of this work, but if
not would be helpful to tell them; I don't know if it'd be appropriate
for what they need, but worst case they may have useful advice/feedback.

[Bug 1774950] Re: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47)

2019-06-05 Thread Soft Rabbit
As I have describe above (#92), suspend did not work since kernel
3.16.57/3.17 on my Acer ES-512. A guy on ubuntuforum had found out that
the problem disappeared when xHCI (external USB3.O controller) was
turned off in the BIOS. The suspend problem also disappeared on my
wife's laptop (another Acer Aspire).

Someone that is knowledgable about suspend, USB3.0 and changes after
kernel 3.17 is perhaps able to figure out how to fix this bug.

[Bug 1429030] Re: netboot mini.iso doesn't support UEFI boot

2019-06-05 Thread Steve Langasek
> HOW, AFTER FOUR YEARS, IS THIS NOT FIXED YET???

The mini iso is an artifact of the debian-installer package build and is
not a supported installer that we reference anywhere on
. It undergoes exactly zero testing as
part of the release process, and is not something that we invest in. I

[Bug 1831548] Re: package mysql-server failed to install/upgrade due to insufficient disk space in /var/lib/mysql

2019-06-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Some other troubleshooting suggestions:

* Check if you have large files in /var/log/. If you have an overly
large log file, it could indicate some other problem is going on.

* Run `apt-get clean`, to delete cached package data

* Run `service mysql restart`.

[Bug 1685794] Re: Boot delayed for about 90 seconds until 'random: crng init done'

2019-06-05 Thread Hami Torun
To add to Andrew's solution, in my case, the UUID in /etc/initramfs-
tools/config.d/resume was correct. But my swap was on an LVM partition.

I have found this blog post:
https://www.hiroom2.com/2018/05/01/ubuntu-1804-lvm-swap-wait-for-root-
en/

and changed the line in /etc/initramfs-tools/config.d/resume from using
UUID to using device path of LVM swap partition, i.e.:

from something like:

RESUME=UUID=----x

to something like:

RESUME=/dev/mapper/ubuntuvg-lvswap

After that,

sudo update-initramfs -u

Then restart and the problem was solved.

Ok, this is enervating. The only current way to change colors is to follow this
algo:

Thanks Bryce and Andreas. I have this debdiff for Bionic. I built this
using pbuilder-dist and it builds successfully. I also installed and
tested and it works as intended. Please let me know your thoughts.

[Bug 1831800] [NEW] Random upload failure due to bug already fixed upstream

2019-06-05 Thread teo1978
Public bug reported:

Starting from a "recent" update (recent in Ubuntu, ages-old upstream),
I've started getting random upload failures: I upload a bunch of files,
and randomly, a few of them fail.

By digging into it, looking at the logs etc, it's clear that there are
issues in the sequences of CWD and MKD commands executed by parallel
processes uploading files in parallel into the same directory (when the
directory doesn't exist at the beginning).

I was looking to report this upstream when I realised the version of
FileZilla I got is more than three years old.

So I looked at the changelog starting from my version (3.15) and I found
this:

  3.37.3 (2018-10-01)
Bugfixes and minor changes:
  Fix issues with directory creation when uploading many files in
  parallel

I'm pretty sure that is the bug I'm experiencing; so apparently it is
fixed upstream. Even if I'm wrong and it's not that one, it's extremely
unlikely that such a critical bug wouldn't be fixed upstream by now.

This is a CRITICAL bug that renders FileZilla completely unusable.

Please update it to a decently recent version without this or other crippling
bugs.
Even downgrading to an *earlier* version before the bug (I'm sure it's a
regression, but I can't tell in which version it appeared) would be better than
nothing.
