it here:

or grab a backport of it in my PPA:

[Bug 1790598] Re: metadata service calls to nova-api-metadata with IP based SAN's fails

commit ae542f685466dc65967c6d74d38d8935685256f5
Author: James Page
Date: Mon Aug 20 15:22:10 2018 +0100

metadata: use requests for comms with nova api

httplib2 makes use of the ssl module provided by Python; under Python 2,
the ssl module does not support IP addresses as subject alternate names
(SAN's) which although an optional part of the associated RFC, is awkward
to work with in environments where certificate management approaches
rely on use of IP addresses in SAN's.

The requests module is more than happy to deal with this scenario; switch
to requests in preference of httplib2 for metadata proxy calls.

httplib2 is retained as its used elsewhere in the codebase.

[Bug 1832922] [NEW] cannot use growisofs to write iso image

2019-06-14 Thread Hugo van der Sanden
Public bug reported:

% lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Release:18.04
% apt-cache policy dvd+rw-tools
dvd+rw-tools:
  Installed: 7.1-12
  Candidate: 7.1-12
  Version table:
 *** 7.1-12 500
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
%

The man page says:
To use growisofs to write a pre-mastered ISO-image to a DVD:
  growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/dvd=image.iso

So having downloaded the iso image I wanted, I ran:
  growisofs -speed=1 -dvd-compat -Z /dev/sr0=ubuntu-16.04.6-desktop-amd64.iso
expecting this to create a bootable Xenial installation DVD.

Instead it created a DVD which was not bootable; mounting it showed a single
file "ubuntu_1.iso" clearly an 8.3-truncated version of the input filename.
Along the way it showed what it was doing:
  genisoimage ubuntu-16.04.6-desktop-amd64.iso | builtin_dd of=/dev/sr0 obs=32k
seek=0
.. so it looks like genisoimage is always getting called, and is creating a new
iso image with the supplied iso as a simple file inside it.

As a workaround, I found that replacing genisoimage with a symlink to
/bin/cat allowed me to use the same growisofs invocation to create the
bootable DVD I wanted.

[Bug 1832903] Re: 18.04.2 login screen doesn't work if it uses 'wayland' and if video kernel driver is 'vgwfx' kernel driver

2019-06-14 Thread Eric Desrochers
I was able to reproduce the problem with 4.15.0-51, but problem seems to
be gone using the hwe kernel 4.18.0-21-generic.

I'll do a kernel bisection and try to find the commit which fixes the situation.
I'll also ask another impacted user to confirm if v4.18 works fine too, to
double-check my testing.

That commit certainly looks like it will solve the problem.  I would love to
test it bud do not know how do so from the directory you have pointed me to. I
have never installed a kernel only. Can you point me to instructions on how do
do so?

Title:
Lenovo miix 510 wifi adapter cannot be turned on

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This problem appears when you first install ubuntu 18.04, 18.10, and
19.10 on a Lenovo Miix 501 laptop. I have not tried previous versions
of ubuntu.  After installation or update to a newer versio of ubuntu
the network adaptor is set to off and cannot be turned on. I believe
this is because of a non-existent or faulty driver for the intel 8260
wifi adapter. It also could be that the driver is waiting for physical
or keyboard switch to turn on the adapter. However, no such switch
  exists in this laptop model.

The problem can be resolved by adding "blacklist ideapad_laptop" to
  the configuration file

  /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

(this is for ubuntu 19.04. The filename and location are different for 18.04
and 18.10)

[Bug 1193787] Re: gpm mouse service doesn't work well in byobu

2019-06-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
Can you provide steps to reproduce it? It is possible this depends on the
actual gpm device parameters used.
You may also want to see if the issue reproduces with other text screen based
programs (ncurses, screen, etc.), as it may be a lower level issue than byobu.

2019-06-14 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
if `db_get libraries/restart-without-asking` fails with exit code 10, it
means this templates is not in the debconf database.

However, libc6 should be installed and configured on the system, with
that template registered.

I wonder, if your debconf database is corrupted / destroyed? Does

$ dpkg-reconfigure libc6

help?

Installed and booted your kernel, dmesg attached.

The MAC address of the dock has not changed with the new kernel, still
using the dock's own MAC instead of the laptop's.

Thanks!

[Bug 1674641] Re: prompt does not actualise on directory change

2019-06-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Steve,

Hopefully you already figured this out. You just need to escape your $.
Look at how byobu_prompt_symbol is called: "\$(byobu_prompt_symbol) "

Putting your string into my config let me reproduce your issue. Then
when I changed it to this:

PS1="${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\e[38;5;202m\]\$(byobu_prompt_status)\[\e[38;5;245m\]\u\[\e[00m\]@\[\e[38;5;172m\]\h\[\e[00m\]:\[\e[38;5;5m\]\w\[\033[01;31m\]\$(byobu_git_branch)\[\e[00m\]\$(byobu_prompt_symbol)
"

it started behaving correctly:

bryce@trent:~/ubuntu/Byobu$ cd byobu/
bryce@trent:~/ubuntu/Byobu/byobu(master)$ ls
Applications/ autogen.sh* CONTRIBUTING debian/ experimental/ NEWS README
 usr/
AUTHORSconfigure.ac COPYING etc/ Makefile.ampo/ snap/
bryce@trent:~/ubuntu/Byobu/byobu(master)$ git branch
bryce@trent:~/ubuntu/Byobu/byobu(master)$ git checkout foobar
Switched to branch 'foobar'
bryce@trent:~/ubuntu/Byobu/byobu(foobar)$ cd ..
bryce@trent:~/ubuntu/Byobu$ pushd .
~/ubuntu/Byobu ~/ubuntu/Byobu

[Bug 1832919] Re: installed libssl1.1:amd64 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10

2019-06-14 Thread Seth Arnold
Stephen, AMD invented the 64 bit extensions to the x86 instruction set
and brought their processors to market well before Intel brought theirs
to market. Thus AMD won a huge amount of name recognition. Debian
standardized on "amd64" to name packages for the architecture many years
ago.

Thanks

[Bug 1832766] Re: LDAP group_members_are_ids = false fails in Rocky/Stein

2019-06-14 Thread Pete Vander Giessen
Reading through the code, and testing a few hacks on _dn_to_id, I can
confirm that the method naively finds the value of the first element of
the user key, without trying to figure out whether it's a uid or not.

@afreiberger one thing I'm not clear on -- in your case, is there a
"uid" field in the key that you're passing in. Is it just a matter of
finding and returning that uid? Or do you want to actually do a lookup
for "Name.domain.tld" in a database, and return the uid of that entry?

commit 0cb6106b83c33bded9e6cdec7737964c36be8de5
Author: Stephen Finucane
Date: Wed Jun 12 15:10:59 2019 +0100

Fix double word hacking test

At present, 'pycodestyle' feeds the following string into the 'tokenizer'
library:

["'This is the the best comment'"]

(note the added quotes because this isn't valid Python otherwise)

On previous versions of Python, this tokenizer would parse the string like
so:

(3, "'This is the the best comment'", (1, 0), (1, 30), "'This is the the
best comment'")
  (0, '', (2, 0), (2, 0), '')

where (3 = 'STRING', 0 = 'ENDMARKER')

However, with the fix [1] backported to recent versions of Python, this now
resolves to:

(3, "'This is the the best comment'", (1, 0), (1, 30), "'This is the the
best comment'")
  (4, '', (1, 30), (1, 31), '')
  (0, '', (2, 0), (2, 0), '')

where (3 = 'STRING', 4 = 'NEWLINE', 0 = 'ENDMARKER')

Typically, 'pycodestyle' will run physical line checks on each line as it
parses the token:

  https://github.com/PyCQA/pycodestyle/blob/2.5.0/pycodestyle.py#L2036

For the former case above, the line doesn't include a newline which
means we never parse a 'NEWLINE' token with a logical line (the fifth
element of the token tuple) corresponding to our full line. This means
we don't here but that wasn't an issue previously since there's a
fallthrough case that handled tokens remaining at the end of the parse:

  https://github.com/PyCQA/pycodestyle/blob/2.5.0/pycodestyle.py#L2114-L2116

Unfortunately, because we now have an additional newline character to
parse, one that's on a separate line to our test string no less, we run
logical checks on it:

  https://github.com/PyCQA/pycodestyle/blob/2.5.0/pycodestyle.py#L2105-L2107

This is an issue since the logical check wipes stored tokens meaning
we've nothing to check when we get to the fallthrough case:

  https://github.com/PyCQA/pycodestyle/blob/2.5.0/pycodestyle.py#L2012

This fixes changes things so that a newline is included (and also adds
quotes so it's valid Python, but that's mostly unrelated). This means we
end up with the following instead:

["'This is the the best comment'\n"]

On both Python without the bugfix and with it, this parses as:

(3, "'This is the the best comment'", (1, 0), (1, 30), "'This is the the
best comment'\n")
  (4, '\n', (1, 30), (1, 31), "'This is the the best comment'\n")
  (0, '', (2, 0), (2, 0), '')

where (3 = 'STRING', 4 = 'NEWLINE', 0 = 'ENDMARKER')

Which triggers things in 'pycodestyle' correctly.

  https://github.com/PyCQA/pycodestyle/blob/2.5.0/pycodestyle.py#L2044-L2046

This isn't _really_ a fix since there's clearly still a bug in either
'pycodestyle' or Python (I think the latter, since it's adding a newline
to a file that explicitly doesn't have one), but the chances of us
hitting this bug in practice are rather low - you'd need to make a
mistake on the very last line of a file without a newline at the end
which is something Vim, for example, won't even let you do without
setting special flags - and therefore it can be reasonably ignored.

[Bug 1827346] Re: Power: Fail to set delay time when the value is 90 minutes

2019-06-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello ethan.hsieh, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-control-center into xenial-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-control-center/1:3.18.2-1ubuntu6.1 in a few hours, and then in
the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

---Problem Description---
while running KVM guests, we are observing numad crashes on host.

Contact Information = srikanth/bssrika...@in.ibm.com

Yes, I have been working on this for a while.

After a suggestion of @lagarcia, I tested the bug on the same machine, booted
on default kernel (4.15.0-45-generic) and also booted the vm with the same
generic kernel.
Results are that the bug also happens with 4.15.0-45-generic. So, it may not be
a problem of the changes included on kernel 4.15.0-1016.18-fix1-ibm-gt.

A few things I noticed, that may be interesting to solve this bug:
- I had a very hard time to reproduce the bug on numad that started on boot. If
I restart, or stop/start, the bug reproduces much easier.
- I debugged numad using gdb and I found out it is getting segfault on
_int_malloc(), from glibc.

Attached is an occurrence of the bug, while numad was on gdb.
(systemctl start numad ; gdb /usr/bin/numad $NUMAD_PID)

== Comment: #8 - Leonardo Bras Soares Passos  - 2019-03-11

I reverted the whole system to vanilla Ubuntu Bionic, and booted on
4.15.0-45-generic kernel.
Linux ltcgen6 4.15.0-45-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 29 16:27:02 UTC 2019
ppc64le ppc64le ppc64le GNU/Linux

Then I booted the guest, also on 4.15.0-45-generic.
Linux ubuntu 4.15.0-45-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 29 16:27:02 UTC 2019
ppc64le ppc64le ppc64le GNU/Linux

I tried to reproduce the error, and I was able to.
It probably means this bug was not introduced by the changes on qemu/kernel,
and it is present in the current repository of Ubuntu.

Next step should be doing a deeper debug on numad, in order to identify
why it is getting segfault.

[Bug 1832909] [NEW] Cache line contention prevents scaling of 100Gbps performance

2019-06-14 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
100Gbps network performance, as measured on an hns3 controller, doesn't scale
as queue size goes up.

[Test Case]
Use a traffic generator instrument to generate load, using the SUT as an IP
forwarder.

19.04 today:

8 queue 12 queue 16 queue 24 queue
37G 45G 38G 33G

With the patch applied:
8 queue 12 queue 16 queue 24 queue
37G 50G 47G 47G

[Fix]
14bd9a607f908 iommu/iova: Separate atomic variables to improve performance

[Regression Risk]
The patch makes no functional change, just reorders members of a structure.
However, it is possible that this has unforeseen negative performance impacts
on some platform.

[Bug 1832903] [NEW] 18.04.2 login screen doesn't work if it uses 'wayland' and if video kernel driver is 'vgwfx' kernel driver

2019-06-14 Thread Eric Desrochers
Public bug reported:

After an upgrade from xenial to 18.04.2 OR 18.04.1 to 18.04.2 ,the login
screen doesn't work if 'Wayland' is in use (default) and if video kernel
driver is 'vgwfx'.

It looks like the login screen got stuck, doesn't exit, and doesn't
fallback to 'x11' by itself in case of failure.

Workaround:
- Access the machine via ssh or any other recovery approaches.
- Force the login screen to use x11:

File: /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
[daemon]
# Uncoment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg
WaylandEnable=false

I tried to reproduce the behaviour on my personal laptop, KVM guest, ...
without success.

So far it is only reproducible when the 'vgwfx' driver is in use in
combination with Wayland.

[Bug 1832421] Re: openssl reboot needed message using incorrect path to X server

2019-06-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Seth, or anyone else affected,

Accepted openssl into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/1.1.1-1ubuntu2.1~18.04.3 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1832659] Re: openssl 1.1.1-1ubuntu2.1~18.04.1 contains upstream bug 7350

2019-06-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Steve, or anyone else affected,

Accepted openssl into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/1.1.1-1ubuntu2.1~18.04.3 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: openssl (Ubuntu Bionic)
   Status: New => Fix Committed
