[Bug 1816548] Re: [MIR] usbguard

2019-07-11 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Seb,
thanks for putting effort into this in general - I know it can be rather time
consuming to clean up those review findings. You asked me to look again into
the aspect of the library lacking a symbols file due to the new info presented
above.

The file is in the normal directory as all other libs (on the current version
in Eoan):
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/usbguard/libusbguard.so.0.0.0
So the placing or naming (0.0.0) of the lib is no "excuse" IMHO.

If the lib is moving fast or is even considered unstable it would be almost
even more important to track symbols to know what changed for consumers. But if
it really is
a) only internal
b) not meant to be used by other programs (so far)
c) symbols tracking is just a burden
Why not making it a static link and not ship the lib at all?
I haven't checked the build system usbguard uses if that is easy or hard in
this case.
But shipping a lib that is not meant to be used as a lib sounds like calling
for problems.

[Bug 1836299] [NEW] Migration with Host model fails to set md-clear (not yet released in archive)

2019-07-11 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

This s an issue found while testing for a planned update.
Filing it as bug to work together on it.

PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~paelzer/+archive/ubuntu/bug-1830243-1832622-1828495-sruregressiontests/+packages

(U) = Updated to the new version
(O) = orig version as in the archive now

Migrations fails from old versions to the new Disco version:
 - Cosmic (O) -> Disco (U) -> fail
 - Disco (O) -> Disco (U) -> fail
Migration works in other cases where the same backport should be active:
 - Bionic (O) -> Bionic (U) -> works
Also it works if both peers of the migration are updated
 - Disco (U) -> Disco (U) -> works
The same worked without the update
 - Disco (O) -> Disco (O) -> works
And the same code in later versions work as well:
 - Disco (U) -> Eoan (O)

The case that fails is the recently added host-model migration check, so there
might be soemthing we miss so far in the test setup.
Error:

$ virsh migrate --unsafe --live kvmguest-disco-normal
qemu+ssh://10.21.151.7/system
error: internal error: process exited while connecting to monitor:
2019-07-11T21:33:29.584326Z qemu-system-x86_64: can't apply global
Haswell-noTSX-IBRS-x86_64-cpu.md-clear=on: Property '.md-clear' not found

TL;DR of the case:
1. Get two Disco systems (x86)
2. one system has the base version, one the new version of qemu
3. start a guest with type "host-model"
4. migrate that guest between the two systems

[Bug 1829716] Re: [SRU] ceph 12.2.12

2019-07-11 Thread Trent Lloyd
The following bug (included in 12.2.12) adds back a lot of log messages
to the monitor log that help with debugging cluster performance
problems. Not having this is causing difficulty supporting a number of
sites recently. This functionality existed in jewel, was removed (and
re-added) in luminous.

Is it possible to push this along with a higher priority on that basis?
http://tracker.ceph.com/issues/37886

If this is otherwise going to be blocked for some other reason then I
suggest I should prepare an SRU for that patch specifically otherwise.

[Bug 1836291] [NEW] 5.2.0-8-generic regresses KMS edid file support, resulting in no video

2019-07-11 Thread satmandu
Public bug reported:

I have the kernel load an EDID file so that when connecting my amd64
machine to a tv and speaker bar through hdmi I get the full setup
information even if the speaker bar and tv might be off.

The relevant kernel cmdline is
"drm.edid_firmware=HDMI-A-1:edid/edid.bin"

In most recent kernel versions this hasn't been a problem.

The mainline 5.2.0-rc7 generic kernel at https://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.2-rc7/ works properly.

The 5.2.0.8.9 kernel in eoan/proposed at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/5.2.0.8.9 however
does not work, insofar as I get no video output at all after grub loads
the kernel.

(I would test with the 5.2.0 mainline generic kernel, but the mainline
kernel builds are currently broken due to issues with gcc-9.1 flags.)

dmesg and Xorg log for boots for both kernels (working and not working)
are attached.

[Bug 1836236] Re: 9.4ubuntu4.9: Broken package because of missing "#" @ /var/lib/dpkg/info/base-files.postinst +131

2019-07-11 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Alexandre, or anyone else affected,

Accepted base-files into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/base-
files/9.4ubuntu4.10 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Comment #1 on issue 983203 by dalecur...@chromium.org: video playback fails and
freezes chromium and Ubuntu and then crashes
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=983203#c1

Sorry we don't provide support for Chromium builds. You'll need to see if the
issue reproduces with an official Google Chrome build:
https://www.google.com/chrome/

The official build should generate a crash report in chrome://crashes
then. Have you tried this?

[Bug 1764663] Re: you need load the kernel first

2019-07-11 Thread Sheel Rana
Hi cally725,

I too faced same issue.

Major reason for this is the RAM allocation to instance.
Kindly check how much ram is used in instance Flavor.

just a quick hint, if this is related:
Normally while creating flavor, we specify "--ram 4", but it is not 4 GB
rather 4 MB.

[Bug 1836278] Re: [nouveau] Login screen seems to be crashing with multiple monitors (6720x1050 from 4x 1680x1050)

2019-07-11 Thread Len Rose
The workaround is splendid! Both display cards and all 4-monitors are
initializing at boot with the splash screen appearing early, all
displays are functioning normally. Thank you very much! I have uploaded
(2) crash files from 0835MDT when I rebooted today. One was for gnome-
shell and one was for uXwayland. I am not sure why but there were no
later crashes despite failing to bring up gdm as it booted. Thanks very
much for the help.

[Bug 722201] Re: CTDB port is not aware of Ubuntu-specific NFS Settings

2019-07-11 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
I have done the SRU for Disco, but, right now I'm facing:

During tests from PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~rafaeldtinoco/+archive/ubuntu/lp722201

Because of the iproute2 ss issue:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iproute2/+bug/1831775

As soon as the SRU happens to disco, CTDB will also be good to be SRUed
on Disco.

  Binary package hint: ctdb

CTDB suppose to detect distro-specific Samba/NFS/Apache settings, or at
least provide the way to manual tweaking/config of ctdb. In the current
state looks like ctdb has been ported from RH-based distribution and its
partially aware of some Debian-specific settings/files/scripts
locations, but completely unaware of Ubuntu. For examle: ctdb is able to
control NFS daemons, but it never looks for /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-
server for startup or /etc/default/nfs-kernel-server for settings.

  1) Found on Ubuntu 10.04
  2) CTDB version: 1.0.108-3ubuntu3
  3) Expected: ability of ctdb to control nfs-kernel-server
  4) Happened: without significant ctdb script changes (adding sections, aware
of ubuntu-specific nfs- and samba- config- and startup scripts locations) ctdb
is not able to function properly

[Bug 722201] Re: CTDB port is not aware of Ubuntu-specific NFS Settings

2019-07-11 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
I'm marking Bionic as won't fix since it has a pretty old CTDB
implementation and the effort in making all changes I've done into
Upstream/Sid/Eoan/Disco is not worth to be done in Bionic, in my
opinion. Opened to discussion if users are relying in Bionic CTDB for
NFS HA and can't make it work w/ old documentation/code.

[Bug 1836284] Re: crash during installation

2019-07-11 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by a corrupted file
system, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and you'll see messages
like these :-

Jul 12 01:31:22 ubuntu kernel: [ 201.764811] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Jul 12 01:31:22 ubuntu kernel: [ 201.764815] SQUASHFS error:

Jul 12 01:31:22 ubuntu kernel: [ 201.765973] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0xe81c6e3

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a faulty
device (or bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error, please
leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to 'new'. I
suggest you use the 'check disc for defects' option to validate your
media before install to ensure a good download & write.

[Bug 1794589] Re: libssl1.0-dev conflicts libssl-dev

2019-07-11 Thread RedScourge
While not relevant to nodejs, I'll add an anecdote that I was trying to build
older versions of php via phpbrew on 18.04 for development purposes, and ran
into a similar issue due to this libssl1.0-dev vs libssl1.1-dev issue.
The issue is that seemingly some of the -dev libraries required to build
various php modules use different versions of ssl, and so if you choose to
build one, you cannot build the other, unless you take some convoluted path
involving downloading source and compiling half the known universe, or simply
not using certain php modules entirely. I did not encounter this same
difficulty on 16.04 LTS as it seems that more of the -dev packages were built
against 1.0.

Obviously I would not expect Ubuntu to support building versions of php
which are no longer in support, but I just wanted to mention that this
libssl-dev thing may cause lots of other issues in rarer use cases. Too
bad the openssl team did not have a better option to facilitate backward
compatibility between these versions.

[Bug 1828200] Re: [SRU] kernel package names ending with version without flavor are not matched by generated patterns

2019-07-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package unattended-upgrades - 1.13

---
unattended-upgrades (1.13) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Alban VIDAL ]
  * Update french translation.
Signed-off-by: Alban VIDAL

  [ Balint Reczey ]
  * Don't crash collecting transitive dependencies when package has no
candidate (LP: #1825886)
  * Use mark_install_adjusted() in rewind_cache()
The original cache had packages marked with adjustments thus rewinding
should also do adjustments to reach the same state. Not using
mark_install_adjusted() also crashes when apt raises error on held
packages. (LP: #1826157)
  * test_rewind: Update test to check if adjustend rewinding took place
  * Only allow removals in valid autoremoval sets
  * Fix one more log location in the man page (Closes: #928601)
  * Factor out kernel regexp generation to functions
  * Packages including kernel version without flavor in their name may be
kernel packages. Also add autopkgtest for checking if the generated
patterns cover the currently running kernel. (LP: #1828200)
  * Skip upgrade-all-security test when there are no updates to test with.
Shortly after a release there may not be security updates against the
packages used in the chroot used for the test.
  * Test with latest stable in upgrade-all-security on testing
  * Fix testing Debian's updates in upgrade-all-security
  * Store list of kept packages and report the number of them in motd
(LP: #1823070)
  * Mention APT's apt-daily-upgrade.service in the man page
  * 50unattended-upgrades.md5sum add MD5 of current files
  * PEP8: Fix breaking line after binary operator
  * debian/tests/control: Fix Depends: of upgrade-between-snapshots
  * debian/tests/control: Allow stderr in kernel-patterns

  [ Gordon Lack ]
  * Replace boolean Unattended-Upgrade::MailOnlyOnError2 mail reporting setting
with multi-valued (string) Unattended-Upgrade::MailReport.

  [ Jaime Hablutzel ]
  * Error message improved on very improbable condition

  [ Clint Armstrong ]
  * Fix showing multi-line strings on Plymouth.
When unattended-upgrades sends it's status to plymouth it sends a
multi-line string which causes plymouth to display overlapping text,
because plymouth only scrolls one line when the message is sent.

[Bug 1836287] [NEW] Bionic update: upstream stable patchset 2019-07-11

2019-07-11 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to

by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

[Bug 1836280] Re: installation crash lenovo idea pad 320

2019-07-11 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by a corrupted file
system, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and you'll see messages
like these :-

Jul 12 00:51:15 ubuntu kernel: [ 925.055618] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Jul 12 00:51:15 ubuntu kernel: [ 925.055625] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x3063520d
Jul 12 00:51:15 ubuntu kernel: [ 925.055900] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Jul 12 00:51:15 ubuntu kernel: [ 925.055902] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x3063520d

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a faulty
device (or bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error, please
leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to 'new'. I
suggest you use the 'check disc for defects' option to validate your
media before install to ensure a good download & write.

[Bug 1836278] [NEW] GDM seems to be crashing with multiple monitors

2019-07-11 Thread Len Rose
Public bug reported:

Boot process halts at the point it normally runs gdm, it seems to keep
re-trying. I learned that if I turn off the third and fourth monitor it
will successfully run the desktop without crashing on the first two
monitors. Once desktop (X) is fully operational, I can turn on third and
fourth monitor and the workspace is initialized and I have (4) working
monitors. I have never reported a bug before please excuse any faux
pas. Best Regards, and wanted to say Thanks! for all the wonderful and

For the past few releases of almost all popular Linux-based
distributions, users of Lenovo's Z580 laptop have been noticing that
past a particular kernel version (usually a certain build of 3.2), the
boot would seem to hang. In reality, the boot would eventually complete,
though after 15-20 minutes (or more in extreme cases). Looking at dmesg
output of boots that hung but eventually finished, three ACPI timeouts
are reported (120s infinite loop timeout in BIOS).

Testing of this bug on my end took place on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Fedora
19, running mainline builds (unmodified mainline tree sources with
distribution kernel configurations). However, users of Fedora, Arch,
Mint, and Gentoo report similar issues both with distribution and
mainline kernels.

Ubuntu Bug Report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1093217

>From the dmesg output, it was found that booting without the battery
physically installed was always successful. Later inserting the battery
after boot had no adverse consequences. Furthermore, compiling a kernel
without battery support (either not at all or as a module later
blacklisted on the command line) would also produce successful boots.

dmesg from above showing impacted area:

[ 840.304049] INFO: task swapper/0:1 blocked for more than 120 seconds.

Specifically, this bug has been reported to appear sometime between 3.2
and 3.3, though the exact commit is unknown. Some temporary workarounds
have been proposed, both on the Ubuntu tracker above, and on other
forums. The only fix that has consistently worked (no failed boots) was
a modification of the DSDT suggested by Tom Thompson on the Ubuntu
tracker. His workaround
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1093217/comments/63)
was to add a "Sleep (50)" line inside the method WAEC, recompile the
DSDT, and use grub2 to replace the DSDT before booting. This fix has
consistently worked on every kernel I have tested, including Mainline
3.3, 3.4, 3.8; Ubuntu 3.3, 3.4; and Fedora 3.8. This change seems to
indicate either a race condition or other timing issue in the Linux
kernel.

Many Z580 models exist based on both 2nd and 3rd generation Intel Core
processors with Intel Integrated and optional NVIDIA graphics, and all
exhibit this same behavior. Windows 7/8 will boot without modification
to the BIOS provided DSDT. As Linux requires the modification to the
DSDT to boot normally after kernel 3.2, this is likely a bug. All kernel
versions past 3.2 do not boot successfully.

The original compiled DSDT, decompiled DSDT.dsl.orig, modified DSDT.dsl,
diff DSDT.dsl.diff, and recompiled DSDT.aml are attached to this report.
This bug has existed for many months, and most newer versions of
distributions will not even boot live media to install. Thank you for
your assistance.

[Bug 1801540]

2019-07-11 Thread ewaldjoao
Same here.
Running on Asus Rog Strix b350-f Gaming.
OS: Ubuntu 19.04 - Kernel 5.0.20 - Gnome 3.32
Noticed that when I use Xorg, my input from webcam works out of the box on
discord. Now on wayland I need to set tsched=0.
Looking at the syslog says that discord was trying to use 48kHz instead of the
default 44.1kHz.
Already tryied to set "alternative frequency" to 44.1kHz like the default
frequency, without success.
Now using a usb audio to workaround.

[Bug 1801540]

2019-07-11 Thread rodomar705
After purging VFIO finally the PCI audio cards works again even after
reenabling it. However now from the front panel only the right channel
works from the front jack, from the back both works correctly.

I don't really understand anything now; nor what the problem is. I'll
try to replay some interesting commands from the decoded win dump,
hoping for the best; however with all this random problems popping up,
I'll really doubt that I will be able to fix anything.
