[Bug 1837683] Re: Screen stops updating after about 8 hours - (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed

2019-07-23 Thread Alex Tu
not see much fishy message in kerne.log, the only message around the time of
issue happened is:
"
Jul 24 01:25:24 u-XPS-13-9380 kernel: [ 2201.963876] [drm] Reducing the
compressed framebuffer size. This may lead to less power savings than a
non-reduced-size. Try to increase stolen memory size if available in BIOS.

[Bug 1837694] [NEW] Fresh install fails from Unetbootin live USB

2019-07-23 Thread Zach Fuller
Public bug reported:

Installing 18.04.2 LTS on HP Elitedesk 800 G1 tower from Unetbootin-
created live USB. Worked previously to install 16.xx using same
procedure (hours ago). That live USB was created using the Windows
version of Unetbootin.

Not entirely sure this is a bug, as A) it could be a system issue, or B)
my relative inexperience with Ubuntu installation, but more data never
hurts, right? Maybe I found some weird corner case that is frustrating,
like, tens of users out there. :)

Thanks for the crash report. Unfortunately we were unable to get a
readable stack trace from that crash report.

If the problem happens again then please repeat the steps in comment #3.

[Bug 1555351] Re: High load freezes ubuntu completely everytime (have to reboot)

2019-07-23 Thread Igor Buess
Here I am on year 2019 using Ubuntu 19.04 and this issue is still
present until this day.

As others have mentioned, other distros that I used also have this
issue: Debian, Manjaro, Mint, Arch.

I remember recently while I was using Kali linux to perform some
pentests that everytime I tried to copy/paste any dictionary files used
in brute force attacks to some other directory the system would just
freeze and even the mouse cursor did not work. I had to turn off the
laptop and restart on the power button.

Something tells me that this is a kernel problem that no one addressed
yet...

[Bug 1837688] [NEW] Ubuntu won't boot on Dell Inspiron 7375

2019-07-23 Thread Agustin-ferrario
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu is unable to boot from the installation USB on a Dell Inspiron 7375,
with a Ryzen CPU. This affects Ubuntu 19.10 (latest daily), 19.04 and 18.04.2
(videos of each unsuccessful boot will be attached).
I was able to boot using a workaround, by adding to the kernel line:

amd_iommu=on ivrs_ioapic[4]=00:14.0 ivrs_ioapic[5]=00:00.2

You can see it here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1036357/ubuntu-18-04-wont-boot-on-dell-
inspiron-7375

I used this workaround to run the apport-bug tool.

The problem should be in an ubuntu specific vendor patch or configuration since
I was able to boot successfully in:
* CentOS 7 (kernel 3.10)
* OpenSUSE Leap 15.1 (kernel 4.12.14)
* OpenSUSE tumbleweed (kernel 5.1.16)
* Fedora 30 (kernel 5.0.9)
* Manjaro (kernel 4.19)
* SystemRescueCd (kernel 4.19.34)

It also needs to apply

to systemd or the airplane mode will always be enabled when keeping pressing

For PulseAudio changes, feel free to commit them to git immediately,
just don't tag them:

  https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/pulseaudio/log/?h=ubuntu-
bionic

They will then be included in whatever version we manage to successfully
release next.

[Bug 1837683] Re: Screen stops updating after about 8 hours - (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed

2019-07-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
1. If there's a relevant message in the kernel log then if will be
obvious -- filling it up. Though if you have a full syslog already then
that might contain the answer, so yes please attach it.

2. I guess log in via ssh and stay logged in before the problem starts.

4. We still need to test Wayland as a confirmation that the problem is
confined to Xorg. It's not a matter of Ubuntu not recommending Wayland,
it's to help us triage and understand this bug so it can be assigned to
the right package and communicated clearly to the right upstream
project.

Re: [Bug 1837683] Re: Screen stops updating after about 8 hours - (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed

2019-07-23 Thread Alex Tu
1. When the problem is happening, does the kernel log show any problems?
(run: dmesg)
When the problem is happening, the screen is black, so no easy to type
command. I can try ssh before reproducing, but might not soon, I need to
handover this machine to another guy today.

Before that, can you get message you need in syslog? or I can upload
kern.log for your reference.

2. When the problem is happening, what do you get from running these
commands?

   ls -l /proc/`pidof Xorg`/fd | wc -l
   ls -l /proc/`pidof Xorg`/fd

When the problem is happening, the screen is black, so no easy to type
command. I can try ssh before reproducing, but might not soon, I need to
handover this machine to another guy today.

Is there other way to get information you need in next boot? So that I can
provide more on current environment that next boot of issue happened.

3. When the problem is happening, what do you get from:

   ps auxw | grep Xorg

Same response as 2.

4. Please try the same test with "Ubuntu on Wayland" and tell us if it
has the same bug.

This would be my lower priory, the target of my testing is to make sure end
user's experience on LTS.

1. When the problem is happening, does the kernel log show any problems?
(run: dmesg)

2. When the problem is happening, what do you get from running these

   ls -l /proc/`pidof Xorg`/fd | wc -l
   ls -l /proc/`pidof Xorg`/fd

3. When the problem is happening, what do you get from:

   ps auxw | grep Xorg

4. Please try the same test with "Ubuntu on Wayland" and tell us if it

[Bug 1837682] [NEW] [Dell XPS 13 9350] Mouse cursor flickers when connecting to 2nd monitor using Displaylink Dell 4-in-1 adapter

2019-07-23 Thread Quoc Khanh Le
Public bug reported:

I experienced the same issue reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1724307 on my
Dell XPS 13 (9350) running Kubuntu 18.10 (4.18.0-25-generic) with KDE
Plasma 5.13.5. My laptop was connected to the 2nd monitor using the VGA
port on the Dell 4-in-1 adapter with the DisplayLink driver 5.2.14

I followed the comment in this link
(https://github.com/DisplayLink/evdi/issues/29#issuecomment-479529359)
and mannually added /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/21-displaylink.conf file
with the content below:

Section "Device"
  Identifier "DisplayLink"
  Driver "modesetting"
  Option "PageFlip" "false"
EndSection

After rebooting, the mouse no longer flickers when connecting to the 2nd
monitor using the DisplayLink adapater so I think it could be a solution
for this problem.

[Bug 1834241] Re: [needs-packaging] Ray Session

2019-07-23 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello.

After review, I find nothing wrong that hasn't been fixed (watchfile fix
was told to me via IRC) that would block sponsoring.

This package has been sponsored and uploaded to eoan-proposed. It now
needs Archive Admin review and approval for inclusion, so I am
unsubscribing Sponsors from this package at this time.

2019-07-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Stephan Fabel, could you please advise to all of the following:

1) Has the issue been tested with using the latest DisplayLink driver
(now 5.2.14)?

2) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

3) Would the following WORKAROUND work with your environment following
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-
server/+bug/1724307/comments/24 ?

[Bug 1834241] Re: [needs-packaging] Ray Session

2019-07-23 Thread Thomas Ward
Sponsoring is on hold. Key critical components are missing from the
packaging.

 * debian/watch is missing. This is key to make `uscan` work for
downloading upstreams and SHOULD be included in the packaging to be
policy compliant.

Marking as "Incomplete" until a debian/watch file is created and made
available in the repository of code.

[Bug 1837677] [NEW] gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect

2019-07-23 Thread Sosha
Public bug reported:

dose not show GSConnect on indicator ubuntu 19.10

i report this bug in GSConnect repository on github.

andyholmes(developer) told me: "v20 will not work with Ubuntu 19.04+,
however newer versions should. If this is a package in Ubuntu should
file a bug in launchpad, since I can't fix old versions."

[Bug 1724307] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9360] Mouse cursor flickers with one external monitor connected via HDMI+Wavlink WL-UG39DK1V

2019-07-23 Thread Quoc Khanh Le
I experienced the same issue on my Dell XPS 13 (9350) running Kubuntu
18.10 (4.18.0-25-generic), KDE Plasma 5.13.5. My laptop was connected to
the 2nd monitor using the VGA port on the Dell 4-in-1 adapter with the
DisplayLink driver 5.2.14

I followed the comment in this link
(https://github.com/DisplayLink/evdi/issues/29#issuecomment-479529359)
and mannually added /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/21-displaylink.conf file
with the content below:

Section "Device"
  Identifier "DisplayLink"
  Driver "modesetting"
  Option "PageFlip" "false"
EndSection

After rebooting, the mouse no longer flickers when connecting to the 2nd
monitor using the DisplayLink adapater so it could be a solution for
this problem.
