[Bug 1837683] Re: Screen stops updating after about 8 hours - (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed
not see much fishy message in kerne.log, the only message around the time of issue happened is: " Jul 24 01:25:24 u-XPS-13-9380 kernel: [ 2201.963876] [drm] Reducing the compressed framebuffer size. This may lead to less power savings than a non-reduced-size. Try to increase stolen memory size if available in BIOS. [Bug 1837694] [NEW] Fresh install fails from Unetbootin live USB
Public bug reported: Installing 18.04.2 LTS on HP Elitedesk 800 G1 tower from Unetbootin- created live USB. Worked previously to install 16.xx using same procedure (hours ago). That live USB was created using the Windows version of Unetbootin. Not entirely sure this is a bug, as A) it could be a system issue, or B) my relative inexperience with Ubuntu installation, but more data never hurts, right? Maybe I found some weird corner case that is frustrating, like, tens of users out there. :) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: ubiquity 18.04.14.12 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.18.0-15.16~18.04.1-generic 4.18.20 Uname: Linux 4.18.0-15-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.5 Architecture: amd64 CasperVersion: 1.394 Date: Wed Jul 24 00:18:01 2019 InstallCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper quiet splash --- LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20190210) SourcePackage: ubiquity UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic ubiquity-18.04.14.12 ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1837694 Title: Fresh install fails from Unetbootin live USB To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1837694/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1555351] Re: High load freezes ubuntu completely everytime (have to reboot)
Here I am on year 2019 using Ubuntu 19.04 and this issue is still present until this day. As others have mentioned, other distros that I used also have this issue: Debian, Manjaro, Mint, Arch. I remember recently while I was using Kali linux to perform some pentests that everytime I tried to copy/paste any dictionary files used in brute force attacks to some other directory the system would just freeze and even the mouse cursor did not work. I had to turn off the laptop and restart on the power button. Something tells me that this is a kernel problem that no one addressed yet... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1555351 Title: High load freezes ubuntu completely everytime (have to reboot) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1555351/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1837688] [NEW] Ubuntu won't boot on Dell Inspiron 7375
Public bug reported: Ubuntu is unable to boot from the installation USB on a Dell Inspiron 7375, with a Ryzen CPU. This affects Ubuntu 19.10 (latest daily), 19.04 and 18.04.2 (videos of each unsuccessful boot will be attached). I was able to boot using a workaround, by adding to the kernel line: amd_iommu=on ivrs_ioapic[4]=00:14.0 ivrs_ioapic[5]=00:00.2 You can see it here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1036357/ubuntu-18-04-wont-boot-on-dell- inspiron-7375 I used this workaround to run the apport-bug tool. The problem should be in an ubuntu specific vendor patch or configuration since I was able to boot successfully in: * CentOS 7 (kernel 3.10) * OpenSUSE Leap 15.1 (kernel 4.12.14) * OpenSUSE tumbleweed (kernel 5.1.16) * Fedora 30 (kernel 5.0.9) * Manjaro (kernel 4.19) * SystemRescueCd (kernel 4.19.34) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 Package: linux-image-5.0.0-20-generic 5.0.0-20.21 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.0.0-20.21-generic 5.0.8 Uname: Linux 5.0.0-20-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: ubuntu 2186 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: ubuntu 2186 F pulseaudio CasperVersion: 1.411 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Tue Jul 23 21:14:36 2019 LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 19.10 "Eoan Ermine" - Alpha amd64 (20190715) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Bug 1837683] Re: Screen stops updating after about 8 hours - (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed
1. If there's a relevant message in the kernel log then if will be obvious -- filling it up. Though if you have a full syslog already then that might contain the answer, so yes please attach it. 2. I guess log in via ssh and stay logged in before the problem starts. 4. We still need to test Wayland as a confirmation that the problem is confined to Xorg. It's not a matter of Ubuntu not recommending Wayland, it's to help us triage and understand this bug so it can be assigned to the right package and communicated clearly to the right upstream project. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1837683 Title: Screen stops updating after about 8 hours - (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1837683/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1837683] Re: Screen stops updating after about 8 hours - (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed
1. When the problem is happening, does the kernel log show any problems? (run: dmesg) When the problem is happening, the screen is black, so no easy to type command. I can try ssh before reproducing, but might not soon, I need to handover this machine to another guy today. Before that, can you get message you need in syslog? or I can upload kern.log for your reference. 2. When the problem is happening, what do you get from running these commands? ls -l /proc/`pidof Xorg`/fd | wc -l ls -l /proc/`pidof Xorg`/fd When the problem is happening, the screen is black, so no easy to type command. I can try ssh before reproducing, but might not soon, I need to handover this machine to another guy today. Is there other way to get information you need in next boot? So that I can provide more on current environment that next boot of issue happened. 3. When the problem is happening, what do you get from: ps auxw | grep Xorg Same response as 2. 4. Please try the same test with "Ubuntu on Wayland" and tell us if it has the same bug. This would be my lower priory, the target of my testing is to make sure end user's experience on LTS. [Bug 1837682] [NEW] [Dell XPS 13 9350] Mouse cursor flickers when connecting to 2nd monitor using Displaylink Dell 4-in-1 adapter

My laptop was connected to the 2nd monitor using the VGA port on the Dell 4-in-1 adapter with the DisplayLink driver 5.2.14 I followed the comment in this link (https://github.com/DisplayLink/evdi/issues/29#issuecomment-479529359) and mannually added /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/21-displaylink.conf file with the content below: Section "Device" Identifier "DisplayLink" Driver "modesetting" Option "PageFlip" "false" EndSection After rebooting, the mouse no longer flickers when connecting to the 2nd monitor using the DisplayLink adapater so I think it could be a solution for this problem. [Bug 1724307] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9360] Mouse cursor flickers with one external monitor connected via HDMI+Wavlink WL-UG39DK1V
I experienced the same issue on my Dell XPS 13 (9350) running Kubuntu 18.10 (4.18.0-25-generic), KDE Plasma 5.13.5. My laptop was connected to the 2nd monitor using the VGA port on the Dell 4-in-1 adapter with the DisplayLink driver 5.2.14 I followed the comment in this link (https://github.com/DisplayLink/evdi/issues/29#issuecomment-479529359) and mannually added /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/21-displaylink.conf file with the content below: Section "Device" Identifier "DisplayLink" Driver "modesetting" Option "PageFlip" "false" EndSection After rebooting, the mouse no longer flickers when connecting to the 2nd monitor using the DisplayLink adapater so it could be a solution for this problem. ** Bug watch added: github.com/DisplayLink/evdi/issues #29 https://github.com/DisplayLink/evdi/issues/29 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1724307 Title: [Dell XPS 13 9360] Mouse cursor flickers with one external monitor connected via HDMI+Wavlink WL-UG39DK1V To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1724307/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
