Is it https://lkml.org/lkml/2019/7/22/1286? Should it work when system is
locked down?

Isn't the workaround option no longer applies to TCC offset adjustment?

[Bug 1840524] [NEW] Curtin Fails to Validate Storage Config with Samsung EVO 960

2019-08-16 Thread Reed Slaby
Public bug reported:

I encountered an error while attempting to install Ubuntu Server 18.04.3
LTS on a Samsung EVO 960 M.2 NVMe drive.

Hardware is:
Asus P10S-M WS
Celeron G3930
Samsung EVO 960 NVMe

In short, the error is:
curtin:1156 Validation error: 'eui.0025385b71b1313e' is not valid under any of
the given schemas in
{
 "id": "disk-nvme0n1",
 "path": "/dev/nvme0n1",
 "serial": "Samsung SSD 960 EVO 250GB_S3ESNX0JB35041V",
 "type": "disk",
 "wwn": "eui.0025385b71b1313e"
}
NoneType: None

I'm not sure what a valid configuration should look like, but the rest
of the traceback is in the attached logs.

I tried updating UEFI to the latest version, and disabling CSM as
suggested by some similar tickets. However, I have not had any luck.

This hardware combination previously had Proxmox installed on it without
issue, so I know that Ubuntu-based distributions can be booted on this
system.

[Bug 1839894] Re: Installing Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS alongside Windows 10 (Dual Boot) causes grub install to fail with fatal error

2019-08-16 Thread Rohan Paul
I have now managed to get rid of this error. I had to manually delete
the directory "/EFI/ubuntu". However, I had to delete the folder both
from windows and ubuntu (booted using live usb). I find that weird since
both OSs refer to the same EFI partition and hence the ubuntu folder
once deleted from windows should not have been visisble from ubuntu.

Unfortunately, I am still unable to boot ubuntu after I restart once the
installation completes successfully. I tried running boot-repair, tried
mounting the linux partition and the EFI partition in a live usb session
and reinstalled grub in a chroot environment, I even booted into windows
and set the bootmgr path to /EFI/ubuntu/gubx64.efi. Nothing worked.

Something weird that I noticed is: after I install linux, if I run a
terminal and mount the EFI partition, I can see the /EFI/ubuntu folder
with all the files (mmx, grubx, shimx). But as soon as I restart and go
to the boot options, I don't see any entry for ubuntu. When I select
"Boot from EFI file", I am unable to see any ubuntu directory in the EFI
dir which is weird since just moments ago I saw its existence from the
live USB. Naturally, I am unable to boot into Ubuntu and can only boot
into Windows. I tried every possible solution here
(https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2147295) and nothing seems to
be working.

2019-08-16 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1840514/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1840514] Re: amdgpu on RX 460 in 18.04.3 does not change state

2019-08-16 Thread cptnapalm
Using the manual approach to settings, by setting
power_dpm_force_performance_level to high does not do anything. It will
report that it has been set to high, but neither the sclk nor mclk
settings change at all.

The Polaris 10 W5100 does respond as expected.

Running sensors, it pauses for 6 to 10 seconds before reporting the
power1 setting which, for the RX 460, it reports 0.0 W. Again, the
W5100 has no such problem.

The gpu_busy_percent on the RX 460 never goes above 6 whether with an
otherwise inactive desktop or running the Hitman benchmark.

[Bug 1840516] Re: misleading sort icon

2019-08-16 Thread Lorenzo Delana
As stated from António Fernandes (see nautilus issue #1008 linked
previous message) there is an option of GTK-3 that tune this behavior,
so to return to the same behavior that was in 18.04 for example a user
can apply follow setting ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini

[Settings]
gtk-alternative-sort-arrows = true

[Bug 1840514] [NEW] amdgpu on RX 460 in 18.04.3 does not change state

2019-08-16 Thread cptnapalm
Public bug reported:

Upgrading from 18.04 to 18.04.3 on a Mac Pro 5,1, the Polaris 11 AMD
card, RX 460 began being very slow to display gdm3; screens would come
on black then go back to sleep in a cycle. Logging into Gnome takes
anywhere between 60 and 90 seconds. If the screen is allowed to go
black from inactivity, it takes a long time to return to usability.

>From experimenting, setting dpm=0 in the grub boot options makes this
particular problem go away at the cost of extremely poor 3D performance.
3D performance was already much weaker than it should have be.

I have tried the newest mainline kernel and it there is no difference.

I also have an AMD Firepro W5100 which is a Polaris 10 card. It
operates perfectly. Even before this particular problem, the W5100 out
performed the RX 460 which should not be the case.

The RX 460 was tested in a spare Windows 10 computer and works fine. It
was also tested in each of the PCIex16 slots of the Mac Pro 5,1.

[Bug 1840512] [NEW] stress-ng pty stressor is reporting an EINTR as an error

2019-08-16 Thread Colin Ian King
Public bug reported:

I received the following failure messages from stress-ng-pty:

stress-ng: 19:27:57.21 fail: [3323] stress-ng-pty: ioctl TCSETAF on slave pty
failed, errno=4 (Interrupted system call)
 2019-08-07 19:27:57.239
stress-ng: 19:27:57.21 fail: [3322] stress-ng-pty: ioctl TCSETSW on slave pty
failed, errno=4 (Interrupted system call)

I believe system calls may in principle be interrupted at any time; is
this really a failure?

Using stress-ng-0.10

[Bug 1840511] [NEW] Eoan FTBFS with gcc-9 and MySQL 8

2019-08-16 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Public bug reported:

C and C++ differ in the form of types being defined. While C++ structs are
defined also as new types, in C you have to explicitly typedef the struct to
have a new type. From clickhouse source code, we are getting:

If I edit file libs/libmysqlxx/include/mysqlxx/Types.h and comment the
following lines:

//struct st_mysql;
//using MYSQL = st_mysql;
//
//struct st_mysql_res;
//using MYSQL_RES = st_mysql_res;
//
//using MYSQL_ROW = char**;
//
//struct st_mysql_field;
//using MYSQL_FIELD = st_mysql_field;

and add

#include

I solve the issue, as MYSQL, MYSQL_RES, MYSQL_ROW and MYSQL_FIELD types
are defined by the mysql.h header file (as C++ would expect).

Unfortunately doing that with gcc-9 was not successful not because of
the change, per se, but gcc-9 crashed during clickhouse compilation.
When changing gcc-9 to gcc-8 as the default compiler (Ubuntu Eoan
userland) I was able to compile clickhouse libmysqlxx library
successfully.

[Bug 1840510] [NEW] Please enable PGO and LTO for arm64

[Bug 1840435] Re: Systemd >=240 sets a clamp of 64MB for RLIMIT_MEMLOCK, too low for some applications.

2019-08-16 Thread Kain
Upon further inspection, this is actually fixed in systemd 241. To
reproduce, try setting a LimitMEMLOCK higher than 64mb for the system
unit user@.service, OR for any unit executed by a systemd --user
process. You will see that the RLIMIT_MEMLOCK is actually clamped to
64MB. This can be observed by using prlimit -p <>.

You can reproduce by trying to give a user session (via user@.service OR
/etc/systemd/user.conf) a LimitMEMLOCK of greater than 64MB and then
inside a systemd unit or inside a gnome-terminal (since gnome terminals
in at least disco and newer are run under a systemd user-service) try to
execute `jackd -d hw:0 -r 48000 -p 256 -n 3 -S`. You may need to
suspend/stop pulseadio.

On my system at least (USB audio only), jackd wants to memlock 82280346
bytes (82MBish) of RAM for audio buffers and the like.

[Bug 1840508] [NEW] eog crashes if new files are written to the directory it is reading from

2019-08-16 Thread Stefan Helmert via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

If eog is called to read a png file from a directory like:

eog mydirectory/picture.png

while new png images are frequently added to this directory, eog crashes
with random errors, e. g.:

(eog:4447): GLib-WARNING **: 00:00:37.123: Accessing a sequence while it is
being sorted or searched is not allowed

(eog:4447): GLib-WARNING **: 00:00:37.124: Accessing a sequence while it is
being sorted or searched is not allowed
malloc(): memory corruption

This happens only if the files are written to the same directory. If the files
are written to different directories, it opens it without error.

[Bug 1840347] Re: Ceph 12.2.12 restarts services during upgrade

2019-08-16 Thread Eric Desrochers
Another thing you could do as a debug exercise to better understand what
is going on is to modify the maintainer scripts in question by adding
the following:

- set -e
+ set -exv

-v Print shell input lines as they are read.
-x Print commands and their arguments as they are executed.

and then build a test package(instrumented) from it. It might be useful
to see exactly what is happening behind the curtains.

Hope these few tips help !

[Bug 1840347] Re: Ceph 12.2.12 restarts services during upgrade

2019-08-16 Thread Eric Desrochers
Another thing you could do as a debug exercise to better understand what
is going is to modify the maintainer scripts in question and add the
following:

-set -e
+ set -exv

-vPrint shell input lines as they are read.
-xPrint commands and their arguments as they are executed.

It might be useful to see exactly it does behind the curtains.

Hope these few tips help !

[Bug 1840444] Re: Kernel panic on boot with 5.0.0-25-generic

2019-08-16 Thread pauldoo
I’ve now got a fix that allows me to boot 5.0.0-25 correctly. I had to
add “rootwait” as a kernel command line option.

I’m not sure why 5.0.0-25 suddenly needs this option when the numerous
previous kernels haven’t.  Just luck?

[Bug 1681909] Re: kdump is not captured in remote host when kdump over ssh is configured

2019-08-16 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
After updating the package for eaon-proposed with the fix for ppc64 (thanks
Eric!), I've manually tested that version and it's working fine, being able to
collect the kernel crash dump.
The version I've tested is:

$ rmadison makedumpfile | grep eoan-proposed
 makedumpfile | 1:1.6.6-2ubuntu1 | eoan-proposed| source, amd64,
arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, s390x

Even with my positive test results, the autopkgtest is broken and keep
failing for ppc64, according to:
http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/m/makedumpfile/eoan/ppc64el

According to the above test, we can see 2 important things:
a) The last time it succeeded was : "makedumpfile/1:1.6.5-1ubuntu2 2019-06-20".
And we can see in fact the ppc64 test was Skipped, that's the reason it
succeeded.

b) Even the current released version for eoan, 1:1.6.5-1ubuntu2, is
failing according to the autopkgtest that ran on:
"makedumpfile/1:1.6.5-1ubuntu2 2019-07-25". This test was triggered due
to makedumpfile being a reverse dependency of "file".

Also, I've try to replicate the test in one local powerpc64 server,
using autopkgtest. My command-line was:

https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/y4KyRvJVmz/

I've switched 2 parameters, having 4 tests results:

1) With "--apt-pocket=proposed=src:makedumpfile" (to test -proposed version)
and "--nova-reboot":
http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/Z8dr6ssF2J/

2) With "--apt-pocket=proposed=src:makedumpfile" (to test -proposed version)
only
http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/qxDRy5xPSZ/

3) Without both parameters above (testing the released version)
http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/cYdMrWHPsR/

4) Only with "--nova-reboot":
http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/xYC4KG9DZr/

In all cases I've failed, with "Broken Pipe" in a late part of the test.
During the failure, I could even SSH into the testbed, so something
clearly is wrong with the test.

I'd like to ask hereby an exemption from this test, marking it as "badtest" in
ppc64.
Cascardo, do you agree? I think we could release this package before the Eoan
freeze, which is sane (based on manual tests made by a colleague and I), we
shouldn't block based on a test that was always skipped.

We still plan to continue investigating the test failure, until we can fix it.
Thanks,

Guilherme

[Bug 1799977] Re: [MIR] gssdp

2019-08-16 Thread Chris Coulson
I reviewed gssdp 1.2.0-1 as checked in to eoan. This isn't a full
security audit, but rather a quick gauge of maintainability.

- gsspd is a gobject based library for using SSDP (Simple Service Discovery
Protocol), and is required by rygel.
- gssdp is part of the GNOME project.
- It doesn't see a lot of git activity, but it's quite a small project so
that's not really unexpected.
- No CVEs in our database.
- Build dependencies in main except for gnome-pkg-tools, meson and valac - none
of which create binary dependencies.

- Doesn't spawn any subprocesses.
- Looks like it's careful with memory management.
- No logging other than a few g_debugs (which are off by default).
- Doesn't use the environment
- No privileged code.
- Does some networking:
  - Consumers of the gssdp API create a GSSDPClient for each network interface.
  - GSSDPClient sets up 3 sockets - IIUC, the first one receives SSDP (NOTIFY
and M-SEARCH) multicast packets. The second one is for sending SSDP NOTIFY
multicast packets and sending responses to SSDP M-SEARCH multicast queries. The
third one is for sending SSDP M-SEARCH multicast queries and receiving
responses to those.
  - The first socket is bound to the SSDP multicast address and port.
  - The second socket is bound to the interface address and SSDP port.
  - The third socket is bound to the interface address and a random port.
  - Unless I've misunderstood something, the way that the sockets are
configured seems a bit weird and I think there might be a bug. The
IP_MULTICAST_IF sockopt is set (via gssdp_socket_mcast_interface_set) and
IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP is set (via g_socket_join_multicast_group) on the same socket
- the one that receives multicast packets. Shouldn't the IP_MULTICAST_IF
sockopt be set on the other 2 sockets (the ones sending multicast packets)
instead?
- It's using AF_NETLINK for looking up MAC addresses, which it uses for keying
a hashtable of cached user agent strings from other devices.
- The max-age in alive announcements is set to 1800s. Re-announcements are sent

- It responds to unicast M-SEARCH queries, which is called out in
https://blog.cloudflare.com/ssdp-100gbps/. Devices that respond to unicast
M-SEARCH queries and are directly connected to the internet can be used in DDoS
attacks in scenarios where an attacker is able to generate packets with a
spoofed source IP. It does employ some rate limiting though - it delays the
response by a random time of between 0 and 3 seconds. This was tested with
netcat.

[Bug 1832144] Re: Ubuntu 19.04 suspend freeze on Dell inspiron 7373

2019-08-16 Thread Carlos Cesar Caballero Diaz
Hi kaihengfeng, thanks for your help, I had installed the last mainline
version:

Linux cccaballero-Inspiron-7373 5.3.0-050300rc4-generic
#201908111734 SMP Sun Aug 11 21:37:12 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux

And this is what happened:

- first boot after the kernel was installed:
I click suspend and it works ok, the device entered in suspend state, and
recovered ok.
Afther the first successful suspension, I tried to suspend again and the device
rebooted

- second boot after the kernel was installed:
I click suspend and it works ok, the device entered in suspend state, and
recovered ok.
Afther the first successful suspension, I tried to suspend again and the device
freezed just like in the bug description.

- third boot after the kernel was installed:
I click suspend and the device freezed just like in the bug description.

that one complained about 1b0

Jul 27 16:44:16 jak-t480s kernel: msr: Direct access to MSR 1b0

but far less often :D

[Bug 1840066] Re: DELL DA300 adaptor's Ethernet port not working after update

2019-08-16 Thread Yen-Yung Chang
Hey thanks a lot for the help! I am running on 1.6.0 BIOS. I am not sure
how to check Thunderbolt firmware version separately, but I have already
updated to the latest "updates" from software center when I ran into the
bug. Also just now I followed https://itsfoss.com/update-firmware-
ubuntu/ again and got "No upgrades for XPS 13 9380 System Firmware,
current is 0.1.6.0: 0.1.6.0=same, 0.1.5.0=older, 0.1.4.0=older,
0.1.3.2=older, 0.1.2.1=older" from "sudo fwupdmgr update" at the last
step in the article. Thanks again for the help.
