[Bug 1852879] Re: HDMI Display port not detected

2019-11-16 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1852879/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1848797] Re: After upgrading to 19.10, boot screen shows: "Error: symbol 'grub_file_filters' not found."

2019-11-16 Thread sacharja
Seems to be related to the virtualbox guest additions kernel moduls. Was
able to restore grub via
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Installing#via_ChRoot .
Afterwards it was not possible to install the general kernel package.
Only after I removed the virtualbox guest additions hwe I was able to
install the new kernel that came with 19.10.

[Bug 1851504] Re: encrypted root fails to cryptsetup on disco

2019-11-16 Thread Chris Baker
This bug is affecting me on Kubuntu 19.04.
I rebooted my computer this morning and typed my password into cryptsetup
during boot only to get the message "libgcc_s.so.1 must be installed for
pthread_cancel to work".

There are a few factors that I believe should cause the priority of this issue
to be increased:
1. Advanced boot options cannot be used to recover
   Selecting recovery mode from grub menu or older kernel/initramfs versions
doesn't help.
   All of my old initramfs images have been updated to no longer include
libgcc_s.so.1.
2. The initramfs scripts do not recover gracefully
   It has taken me at least 4 hours to recover from this issue because copying
libgcc_s.so.1 from a usb stick into the initramfs isn't enough to recover. Upon
exiting the recovery shell, it simply indicated that the root couldn't be
mounted and dumped me back to the shell again.
   I manually ran cryptsetup to open the LUKS volume and this still resulted in
getting dumped back to the initramfs shell.
   The problem, I think, is that the cryptsetup fails several times (in
local-top and in local-premount or local-block) before the mount is considered
failed and the initial recovery console is presented. So, when exiting the
shell, it tries to resume at a point well past the initial mounting attempt.

I finally got the computer to boot by copying libgcc_s.so.1 from another
computer into the recovery initramfs. I then had to source
scripts/functions and run_scripts local-top. After that I was able to
boot, but I don't remember if I also did a run_scripts local-premount.

[Bug 1852636] Re: Cannot install any release on HP Omen 17-cb0013nm

2019-11-16 Thread Vedran Rafaelic
I got like 175 ERRORs in the previous journalctl. I did sudo apt update
and upgrade reducing to 110 errors. I installed propriatery Nvidia 435
drivers from "Software & Updates" and then booted with only
"pci=nommconf" giving this journalctl:

[Bug 1852879] [NEW] HDMI Display port not detected

2019-11-16 Thread Siavash
Public bug reported:

ubuntu 18.04.x+ doesn't detect my monitor connected with HDMI port. I first
realized that I have a problem when running the installer. I had to connect an
older monitor connected to my DVI-I port in order to run the installer. After
installation I tried to make ubuntu understand that I'm trying to use my HDMI
port and I used all kinds of commands suggested to me at #ubuntu@freenode but
no avail.
I tried ubuntu 16.04 and the problem was not there. The installer was fine and
the OS was fine until I upgraded to 18.04 and the problem came back.

I have tried installing different OSs recently and I had no problems
with Windows 10 and Linux Mint. I tried Debian and the installer was
fine but when OS started, there was the same problem as with ubuntu
18.04.

[Bug 1852636] Re: Cannot install any release on HP Omen 17-cb0013nm

2019-11-16 Thread Vedran Rafaelic
I also managed to install with these same "nomodeset pci=nommconf" but
it is pretty unstable.

As I saw "systemd[1170]: Failed to start GNOME Shell on Wayland" in
"journalctl -b", I uncommented "WaylandEnable=false" in
"/etc/gdm3/custom.conf". I was having black screen on boot, being able
to enter CTRL+ALT+F3 though.

Here is the "journalctl -b" with "WaylandEnable=false"

[Bug 1852872] [NEW] Application names in Latin characters instead of Cyrillic

2019-11-16 Thread kolya
Public bug reported:

I have ru_RU.UTF-8 and majority of elements are written in Russian and
Cyrillic. When I open mate menu some UI elements are in Russian with
Cyrillic - but somehow application names are in Russian that is
transliterated into latin. See screenshot - for example Cheese app.

I'm fairly certain that this was not a problem on 19.04 and appeared
after upgrade.

Please let me know if additional information is needed.
Thanks!

[Bug 1852863] Re: Don't know

2019-11-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1852871] [NEW] Connect to Android Tablet does not work in 19.10

2019-11-16 Thread Robert Pearson
Public bug reported:

With 19.04 I just plugged my Android Tablet into a USB slot and could
move files between my two devices. With 19.10 it usually does not mount
my device. When it says it has, then all the directories are claimed to
be empty. The code for 19.10 obviously broke something.

[Bug 1852864] [NEW] Fractional Scaling shows a black bar

2019-11-16 Thread roland via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

The right part of the external screen shows a black bar when using fractional
scaling.
This started happening this week.

Somebody else is also experiencing this problem:
* [ubuntu discourse
post](https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/x11-hidpi-scaling-available-for-testing-on-disco/10293/23)
*
[photo](https://ubuntucommunity.s3-us-east-2.amazonaws.com/original/2X/5/509069037c78c1e5b461e526236ffeb207de1025.jpg)

Attached monitors:
* External 4K
* Laptop: qhd

Tried connection types:
*  HDMI (30hz),
*  HDMI over usb-c
*  DP over usb-c

Fractional scaling was set up in this way:
`gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features
"['x11-randr-fractional-scaling']"`

It doesn't seem to be monitor related.
It works when:
*  using wayland
*  turning off fractional scaling
*  during boot and login

Installed software:
*  ubuntu 19.04
*  Gnome 3.32.1

** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1852860] Re: Display settings not saved across sessions

2019-11-16 Thread Prashant Deva
Updating, I have narrowed down the bug further.

So the settings are not persisted when fractional scaling is used.

If i enable fractional scaling and then change the scaling, display
settings are not persisted across sessions.

If i simply enable fractional scaling, but dont change the scaling
(leaving it at 100%), but change other display settings, like location
of monitors, they are indeed persisted.

[Bug 1035045] Re: bzr refused to commit systemd-escaped filenames

2019-11-16 Thread JP Vossen
The hack-around in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bzr/+bug/1035045/comments/3
"worked" for me with `etckeeper` + BZR on Mint-18, in that it stopped
the error messages. I don't actually know or care what omitting the
affected snap files in `/etc/` might do later.

Note I needed 2 lines in `/etc/.bzrignore` and was confused when the first line
failed to work. And you probably also need to:
```
# Be root
cd /etc
sudo vi .bzrignore
systemd/system/snap*
systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/snap*
bzr rm --keep systemd/system/snap* systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/snap*
etckeeper commit 'Ugly hack-around for bzr/etckeeper errors for snapd use of
backslash in file names'
```

Or I would if the project existed. The wiki page talks about a request

[Bug 1827329] Re: Please update package to Build 20

2019-11-16 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
For older Ubuntu releases, it is possible to request a backport
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports)

19.10 (eoan):
Added eoan-backports task. I've built and installed the packaged locally, it
runs as expected.

19.04 (disco):
Not tested, though might need to do something here to ensure upgrade path from
older releases. Although see below.

18.10 (cosmic):
Reached EoL. I assume this is exempt from the upgrade path...?

18.04 LTS (bionic):
Would be really nice. I don't know how backports are built, but the package
requires debhelper 12 which is available in bionic-backports. Assuming the
-backports archive is available at build time, this would work.

The package builds and installs. However, it fails to start with the
following error message:

Graphics: Try to set Videomode 800x600
glewInit returns 1
Your OpenGL installation must be __very__ broken. Missing GL version

Caught exception (of type '10WException') in outermost handler!
The exception said:
[/home/ubuntu/dev/widelands-20/src/graphic/gl/initialize.cc:138] glewInit
returns 1: Broken OpenGL installation.

This should not happen. Please file a bug report on version build-20(Release).
and remember to specify your operating system.

Seen anything like this upstream?

16.04 (older LTS, still supported) (xenial):
The main problem here seems to be that debhelper 12 is not available, not even
in xenial-backports. Either that needs resolving or I could help put together a
slightly modified packaging for backport.

I guess focus should be on the latest release and the latest LTS
release. If those get sorted out, we can see how far back in time we can
go. :)

[Bug 1852183]

2019-11-16 Thread Resort1-u
Can confirm this suspected 'mutter' bad effect on calc 6.3.3 and mutter
3.34.1:

-happen with a calc spreadsheet when trying to copy/paste a formula cell:
 1) from a column's cell, right click to copy it
 2) select the first same column's cell to paste: get a graphic created (kind
of image with 4 cells which are draggable and extendable) instead of the normal
pasting result.
 3) deleting that graphic objet, then re-copying the original cell, finally the
pasting is done as expected.

This has been seen for each copy/paste since calc 6.3.3 upgrade, not
prior.

Also note that now LO is unable to load/open an ods file : after the Nov 11th
upgrades; Does not get error from a terminal.
Only get a dialog box telling calc has silently crashed and will then try to
recover the ods file: but there is no file listed to recover.
Indeed that ods file load/open as usual with version prior to Focal.

[Bug 1690085]

2019-11-16 Thread pghjvanblokland
Ever since upgrading to a Ryzen (1700X), I have experienced frequent
system freezes, which may be related to the problems discussed here.

The freeze mostly happens during a certain heavily threaded task with
disk io.

Symptoms:

* Screen completely freezes, including mouse pointer,
* Existing SSH connections die, no new connection can be established,
* System can no longer switch to text console,
* LEDs indicate **unceasing disk activity**,
* System still responds to pings,
* Alt-SysRq keys remain active, but cannot output to screen even if already in
text console.

I've succeeded in capturing kernel logging after a freeze using
netconsole:

This timeout message appears:

[Bug 1852859] [NEW] CVE-2019-19010 - Eval injection in the Math plugin

2019-11-16 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

[ Impact ]

This is a security issue that allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker
to obtain private information regarding the current process, and
possibly remotely execute code.

[ Test Case ]

With this being the case of an eval() gone rouge, since the eval() has
been now removed that's enough of a test case to assure the bug is
fixed.

[ Regression Potential ]

limnoria contains a very comprehensive test suite, including for the
Math plugin, so the regression potential is minimal.

[Bug 1852510] Re: IO errors when writing large amounts of data to USB storage in eoan on RPI

2019-11-16 Thread Hui Wang
Probably I found the root cause of this problem.

After enabling the HIGHMEM and VMSPLIT_3G, the urb sent to the driver of
dwc_otg maybe allocated in the highmem, if it is in the highmem, the usb
core will not set the urb->transfer_buffer and call hcd->urb_enquenue().

With other hcd drivers, they could handle the situation of
urb->transfer_buffer to be NULL, but for dwc_otg hcd driver, it returns
an error unconditionally if the urb->transfer_buffer is NULL. I check
the code, the dwc_otg driver could handle the situation that the urb
buffer is in highmem (urb->tansfer_buffer is NULL).

Maybe we could fix this issue with a simple patch, I will post my found
to the upstream bug https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/3332

[Bug 1833474] Re: Radom & frequent total crashes since upgrade to 19.04

2019-11-16 Thread G.M.
Hi,

I've been using the computer for a few days now after upgrading the
whole system and it seems to be a lot more stable.

Thanks!

I would be glad to know what has changed (and also how to debug so
drastic crashes) so that in the future I would not waste so mcuh time
(and work) due to similar problems...
