Fixed that for two more patches for IceLake, but the resulting tree
fails to enter deeper state than PC3.

[Bug 1853200] Re: cpu features hle and rtm disabled for security are present in /usr/share/libvirt/cpu_map.xml

2019-11-19 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
@UCA-Team
I'm also subscribing the UCA Team as I personally only know about [1] which
allows you to use named CPU models.

I expect there already is some general pattern established to handle e.g. the
older MDS which if you look at "Configuration as a Hypervisor" at [2] also
needs such entries to be configured through libvirt.
Eventually dropping hle/rtm is no different than adding md-clear back then.

@UCATeam - How would in a OS/Charm world one add/disable individual cpu
features?
Could you outline how this is handled today so we might consider adapting the
same for hle/rtm?

[Bug 1853246] [NEW] [SRU][B/OEM-B/OEM-OSP1/D] Enable new touchpads which are not in current whitelist

2019-11-19 Thread AaronMa
Public bug reported:

SRU justification:

[Impact]
New touchpads are ignored by hid driver because of IDs are missed in the
whitelist.

[Fix]
Only 2 Elan touchpad IDs are allowed to be loaded in hid driver.
Change to the blacklist of elan touchpads supported by elan_i2c, so others can
be enabled by hid.

[Test]
Verified on hardware. Tests results are good.

[Regression Potential]
Low.
keep current IDs of elan_i2c, loads those touchpads ID those weren't supported.

Those patches are already in 5.3+ kernel,
only bionic and disco kernel need them.

[Bug 1853200] Re: cpu features hle and rtm disabled for security are present in /usr/share/libvirt/cpu_map.xml

2019-11-19 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I found no changes since the CRD nor a discussion on the ML of qemu or libvirt.
There are the backported fixes that add taa-no and pschange-mc-no to qemu - but
nothing touches hle/rtm yet.

The general answer of of the virt stack avoiding type proliferation are
versioned CPU models.
=>
https://git.qemu.org/?p=qemu.git;a=commit;h=aa5b969287125d1924d74648b378d4abba544465
=>
https://git.qemu.org/?p=qemu.git;a=commit;h=d86a708815c3bec0b934760e6bdab7eb647087b8

But that is a feature that will be in qemu >4.1 and newer libvirt, so look
towards Ubuntu 20.04 and UCA derived from that for this feature.
It seems way too big and invasive for an SRU.
But even if you had that, you'd either have
a) unversioned type without consistency (might change on update, which isn't
what you want either)
b) versioned types which stay static behave exactly as what we have now

@security - where there discussions about how to handle these feature
losses in the "closed circle" around the TSX/TAA bug?

[Bug 1853244] [NEW] [SRU] 2.42.2

2019-11-19 Thread Michael Vogt
Public bug reported:

This is a new version of snapd.

The changelog is available here
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/blob/2.42.2/packaging/ubuntu-16.04/changelog,
the raw git changelog is available here:
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/commits/2.42.2 (note that the debian
changelog is auto-generated from the merges of the git commits so there
is usually no need to look at the raw git commits).

The travis logs for 2.42.2 can be found here: https://travis-
ci.org/snapcore/snapd/branches

The snappy team released a new release that we want SRU into xenial. The
new process described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SnapdUpdates was used
and we have done integration-tests on the snappy images, autopkgtests on
classic and unit tests.

[Bug 1843972] Re: segmentation fault on start

2019-11-19 Thread Andreas Noteng
Good, that means this issue should be fixed in the 20.04 release of
Ubuntu, as it will utilize the updated package currently in Debian. Feel
free to try requesting a sync for the 19.10 release, but the source has
significantly changed since the version currently in Ubuntu, so I
suspect it'll be rejected.

[Bug 1853242] [NEW] Regression in Eoan: cannot print to smb connected printer

2019-11-19 Thread Sergio Callegari
Public bug reported:

After upgrade from disco to eoan, notwithstanding the fact that
/etc/cups/printers.conf has stayed the same, I cannot print anymore to an smb
connected printer provided by my Institution.
The connection uses authentication and username, password are present in the
smb url in the printers.conf file.

May be the same regression as in Fedora 30
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1706090

Issue prevents upgrading to eoan.

[Bug 1853200] Re: cpu features hle and rtm disabled for security are present in /usr/share/libvirt/cpu_map.xml

2019-11-19 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Dave,
IIRC Openstack either tries to determine the least common denominator (in cpu
features) or whatever you pass to hi, in your case that was:
[libvirt]
cpu_mode = custom
cpu_model = Skylake-Server-IBRS

And your guest definition won't change after the initial definition.
Even if you would run host-model instead of a named type it would (in
the past) have determined the hle and rtm features and now can't start
with them.

But Skylake-Server-IBRS is a name for a defined set of feature and it
would be a bug to change "Skylake-Server-IBRS" to now contain other
features.

As you have spotted yourself people could set tsx=yes on the commandline
or for whatever probably non-smart reason run with a kernel without the
fixes.

Therefore changing the existing "Skylake-Server-IBRS" is a no-go as an
SRU, lets consider other options.

---

Upstream did create these new custom names with the -IBRS suffix when the first
security issues hit. But as you know there were many issues following that one
like L1TF, MDS,
Upstream realized quickly that this would be a massive type proliferation that
grows even further every now and then.

Also these types back then got defined in qemu not libvirt, you can see them
with
  $ qemu-system-x86_64 -cpu ?
Libvirt only tracks names and features of those in /usr/share/libvirt/cpu_map*.

---

Interestingly for all the dangers and drawbacks of host-passthrough, in
these cases those setups would not care as they would just pass less
features. But modelling the features in libvirt or openstack made them
explicit and it is now correctly telling us that it can't provide those.

---

Back when the first set of spectre mitigations hit Daniel made a great post
summarizing how configuring models works including modifying the named
models to yoour needs.
=>
https://www.berrange.com/posts/2018/06/29/cpu-model-configuration-for-qemu-kvm-on-x86-hosts/
An example for your "Skylake-Server-IBRS" would now be in libvirt like:

   Skylake-Server-IBR

Therefore from libvirt's perspective there isn't much we can/should do
IMHO, I'll double check if upstream on qemu/libvirt considered otherwise
and again defined new types or other quirks. But looking at L1TF, MDS
and such I'm expecting that using individual features is what is
expected.

---

Lets summarize the options we have right now:

a) You can define your own types for libvirt in /usr/share/libvirt/cpu_map,
that seems tempting at first, but
a1) you'd still need to change the type in every guest, so you gained nothing
a2) those are not meant to be edited, e.g. they are no conffiles and will
be overwritten on upgrades of libvirt0
b) Define a new type in qemu and then libvirt as the -IBRS types
b1) as I said recent security fixes didn't do this anymore, I don't expect
this to be different
b2) this needs to be in sync with others (upstream and distros) or
proliferation
  and confusion gets even worse
c) Start to define your guests based on feature and not (only) on names
c1) that is what most recent security fixes used
c2) that mechanism will work for any known features without even changing
libvirt
c3) new feature flags are usually tried to be backported, but often are not
required but
  further optimizations

a-c) and yes for any of the above you'll need to
 1. Touch the guest definition before you can start it again after booting into
the fixed kernel
Probably worth to prep that before the reboot to reduce downtime
 2. That the features are gone will be a guest visible change with low but
potential impact of
former things now failing (as any feature takeaway)

@security - the USN probably should get a not abut such prep to be done prior
to rebooting into the new kernel - opinions? Assigning to you to get this
answer while I look if a week after TSX/TAA upstream decided to this time add
types - after all taking away old features is a first in all of this

2019-11-19 Thread Po-Hsu Lin

** Description changed:

- Would it be possible to enable rockchip support in Ubuntu 18.04 kernel
- for arch aarch64(arm64)?
+ == SRU Justification ==
+ We already have this ROCKCHIP support enabled for armhf (bug 1566283),
+ let's enable it for arm64 as well.
+
+ The only difference is arm64=m for CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_ROCKCHIP as
+ requested, it was set to 'n' for armhf.
+
+ == Fix ==
+ Enable the corresponding kernel configs for B/D/E/F.
+
+ == Test ==
+ Test kernels could be found here:
+
+ Kernel tested by Paweł, the bug reporter, with positive test results.
+ The kernel will need another RK818 ID detection patch, which will be
+ handled in bug 1853192.
+
+ == Regression Potential ==
+ Low, this patch just add the ARM64 support for ROCKCHIP, this should
+ not have impact to normal users.
+
+
+ == Original Bug Report ==
+ Would it be possible to enable rockchip support in Ubuntu 18.04 kernel for

[Bug 1728012] Re: Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change

2019-11-19 Thread Miles Wolbe
Ran into the same scanner issue today with a Brother MFC-6490CW under
Ubuntu 18.04 (factory installed by Dell and fully updated before
attempting printer/scanner install). Found pdc's post on askubuntu.com (
https://askubuntu.com/a/1054065/314730 ) first, which linked to
staedtler-przyborski's symlink answer (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-
backends/+bug/1728012/comments/25 ). Worked a treat - thanks so much!

I know this is fixed in Thunderbird 69.0.1 and 68.2. can this be put into
the repository for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS?

[Bug 1853197] Re: Memory leak in net/xfrm/xfrm_state.c - 8 pages per ipsec connection

2019-11-19 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
commit 86c6739eda7d2a03f2db30cbee67a5fb81afa8ba
Author: Steffen Klassert
Date: Wed Nov 6 08:13:49 2019 +0100

xfrm: Fix memleak on xfrm state destroy

We leak the page that we use to create skb page fragments
when destroying the xfrm_state. Fix this by dropping a
page reference if a page was assigned to the xfrm_state.

Fixes: cac2661c53f3 ("esp4: Avoid skb_cow_data whenever possible")
Reported-by: JD
Reported-by: Paul Wouters
Signed-off-by: Steffen Klassert

This commit will be automatically picked by later kernel update since it
has "Fixes" tag.

It seems to be a problem from the chip series itself since in 16.04.03
it also does not get detected. Or the internal mic is flawed, I still
need to test in windows 10 to be sure if it is a alsa driver problem to
this chip or a hardware problem

[Bug 1846539] Re: [broadwell-rt286, playback] Since Linux 5.2rc2 audio playback no longer works on Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140

2019-11-19 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ With the current default kernel config, the SND_SOC_SOF_BROADWELL_SUPPORT
+ is set to Y, then it will make the legacy intel soc driver fail, and
+ moreover the current sof driver can't support broadwell well, as a
+ result, many broadwell computers with I2S codec can't support sound anymore.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Intel submitted a patch, it will make those two kconfig options exclusive,
+ and the legacy soc's option has higher priority, if both of them are
+ enabled, sof's option will be disabled.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Build the kernel and check the debian/build/$buidling_dir/.config, the
+ SND_SOC_SOF_BROADWELL_SUPPORT is disabled.
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ Low, so far, the sof driver can't support broadwell machine well, so
+ there is no machine use this driver yet.
+
+
  Hello!

I noticed that since Linux 5.2rc2 audio playback no longer works on Dell
Venue 11 Pro 7140 (Intel Core M-5Y71; rt286). Turns out that happened
because SND_SOC_SOF_BROADWELL_SUPPORT was enabled in kernel binary
  builds since 5.2rc2: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
  ppa/mainline/v5.2-rc2/

To verify this assumption I tested two builds of Linux 5.3.1.

[Bug 1748844] Re: hud-service crash with qmessageLogger::fatal() reported at login

2019-11-19 Thread liyang
Target machins is Ubuntu 16.04:

Feb 16 23:25:58 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

This problem also affected me after a new qt installation ( I only
copied the lib, plugins, qml into target machine's /usr/local/qt5.7 ).

Tring to start hud-service:
./usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/hud/hud-service
Repoted an error like:
... load the Qt platform plugin "minimal"...

But my applicatins started normally.
This was due to the "qt.conf", I copied my qt.conf to
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/hud/ and the problem was resolved.

qt.conf:

[Bug 1853216] [NEW] evolution-addressbook-factory fails with slow CardDAV server

2019-11-19 Thread foobar
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to use Evolution to access a 6000-vcard collection on a slow
CardDAV server.

Evolution (actually the backend 'evolution-addressbook-factory') fails
to read the contents of an address book stored on this slow CardDAV
server.

The message is "Socket I/O timed out" (after ~90 seconds).

I can reliable synchronize my Android devices with this server, so the
CardDAV server is working just fine. I can also access this slow
CardDAV server using the Linux "cadaver" program, and just listing all
6000 cards requires about *180 seconds*. Clearly, any timeout of 180
seconds or less built into Evolution won't allow this CardDAV server to
operate properly.

So the problem is with Evolution.

The evolution-addressbook-factory program queries this CardDAV server
for a list of *all* of the contacts (i.e., all 6000 of them), which
takes the server 180 seconds to return.

Somewhere in the evolution-addressbook-factory code, there is a *hard-
coded* timeout of something like 90 seconds.

Either this hard-coded timeout should be increased to something like 5
minutes, or an option needs to be included for defining slow servers.

Note that due to standard CardDAV protocols, there doesn't appear to be
any way to avoid requesting and accepting the *entire list* of address
cards. This is because, while evolution-addressbook-factory
synchronizes at most 100 cards at a time, evolution needs to know each
card's resource name (file name) when requesting a batch of 100, and the
only way to do that is with a PROPFIND on the entire collection.

I have tested Evolution on both x86 and x64 versions, and they both fail
in exactly the same way, so the problem isn't machine-specific.

[Bug 1853207] Re: 19.10 installer file copy fails

2019-11-19 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download,
corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and
you'll see messages like these :-

Nov 19 21:42:49 ubuntu kernel: [ 188.712515] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Nov 19 21:42:49 ubuntu kernel: [ 188.712520] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x524c0

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or
faulty device (inc.r bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error,
please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to
'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and use the 'check disc
for defects' option to validate your media before install to ensure a
good download & write.

When booting with 3.15 or newer kernels, a monitor connected to the DVI port of
the BIOSTAR A780L will stay blank.
Kernel 3.14 and older work fine.

I tried forcing the output to on with video=HDMI-A-1:e but this made no
difference.
