[Bug 1852611] Re: update-grub fails because 10_linux_zfs puts a spare closed brace

2019-11-24 Thread Didier Roche
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1848399 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1848399

The extra } is a consequence of multiple things, like no good recover
found, or invalid linux entry data. I guess your bug should rather be a
duplicate of bug #1848856.

In any case, both of them are fixed in this ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/+archive/ubuntu/zsys) before we release
an SRU for eoan. Do you mind giving it a try and report it fixes your issues?
Thanks!

[Bug 1853731] Re: chromium snap stops working after awhile, fails to render new tabs/pages

2019-11-24 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Thanks for the report. Is the beta snap similarly affected, or is it
just stable?

To attach more information to the bug report, you can run "apport-
collect 1853731" (assuming you still have the chromium-browser package
installed, which is now a transitional package for the snap, but still
contains the apport hook).

[Bug 1853786] Re: Fullscreen stuck in various applications. Ubuntu 18.04 with Unity.

2019-11-24 Thread Diego
It turns out that if you installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS using the .iso images
released in April 2018, you may kept back with Linux 4.18 and old Xorg display
server.
I updated kernel 5.0, Xorg, and graphics drivers by opting-in to “hardware
enablement” (HWE).

In the terminal:

sudo apt install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-18.04 xserver-
xorg-hwe-18.04

It solved the problem.

[Bug 1853465] Re: Inconsistent nested KVM status with race conditions across multiple hosts: rmmod: ERROR: Module kvm_intel is in use

2019-11-24 Thread Nobuto Murata
Hi Christian,

Thank you for the detailed response. Just to clarify, I'm not pursuing
to use nested KVM here actually, but to have a consistent flag across
multiple hosts so live-migration of the first level KVM VMs won't fail
with:

> [instance: afd27b8f-30df-4eab-b18a-5c269ce97d06] Live Migration
failure: operation failed: guest CPU doesn't match specification:
missing features: vmx: libvirtError: operation failed

In any case, if newer kernel doesn't need the rmmod trick in postinst
and the flag is enabled at boot as you wrote, then tracking down the
root cause of the race condition is not the best way to spend our time.
So we will take either of #1, #2, #3 you suggested above as the way
forward.

I will leave this as Incomplete to let it expired unless other users are
willing to test it more. Thanks again for the suggestions!

[Bug 1851127] Re: app page shows no install progress

2019-11-24 Thread Robert Ancell
The clicking out of a snap and returning is probably the same issue in
that we don't detect if an external client installs/removes snaps. This
is not easy to solve without snapd providing an efficient means of
notifying this (LP: #1768418). We could poll snapd, which is the same
effect as running 'snap changes' on the command line. But this would
have gnome-software (a long running process) constantly polling snapd.

Alan - do you think you've triggered the mechanism Seb described or
something else?

[Bug 1853789] Re: Need to disable CONFIG_DRM_V3D in the raspi2 eoan kernel

2019-11-24 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

We enabled this driver in the linux-image-5.3.0-1013-raspi2 proposed
kernel, then we got lots of reports from users that this driver is not
stable, it will crash randomly, so let us disable this driver again and
wait for the upstream branch rpi-5.3.y has the fixes for it.

Users report crash of this driver via: #1852035 and #1850876

This bug is for tracking the reverting the fix of #1850876.
+
+ [Impact]
+ According to the #1852035 and #1850876, users reported that the driver
+ v3d will crash under desktop, then I checked the upstream kernel, the
+ branch rpi-5.3.y was merged some fixes for v3d driver on Nov 11, I
+ tested this branch myself, found the driver still has some problem.
+ I also applied those patches to eoan kernel and built a testing
+ kernel, users reported similar problems with this testing kernel.
+
+ So the safest way is to disable this driver in the kernel agian, until
+ the branch rpi-5.3.y has the fixes for this driver. Or we could
+ investigate and backport fixes from rpi-4.19.y later.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Revert a patch in the 1013 kernel.
+
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Users tested 1012 kernel a lot, they didn't report the unstable issues,
+ and before the 1013, this driver was always disabled.
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ Low, just revert a new enabled driver in the 1013 kernel.

[Bug 1853785] Re: Menu search sometimes glitch

2019-11-24 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1853785

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

A picture (screenshot, or photo as attachment) of what you are describing may
also be helpful. Your description did remind me of an issue related to radeon
(AMD open source [kernel module] driver), but few of your hardware details are
currently provided (apport-collect once run may provide more clues)

[Bug 1853789] [NEW] Need to disable CONFIG_DRM_V3D in the raspi2 eoan kernel

2019-11-24 Thread Hui Wang
Public bug reported:

We enabled this driver in the linux-image-5.3.0-1013-raspi2 proposed
kernel, then we got lots of reports from users that this driver is not
stable, it will crash randomly, so let us disable this driver again and
wait for the upstream branch rpi-5.3.y has the fixes for it.

Users report crash of this driver via: #1852035 and #1850876

This bug is for tracking the reverting the fix of #1850876.

[Bug 1850876] Re: CONFIG_DRM_V3D is disabled for linux-raspi2 of eoan

2019-11-24 Thread Hui Wang
@Ian,

"rock solid WITH acceleration when using Gentoo", could you please tell
me what is the kernel version for Gentoo? Or could you paste the output
of 'uname -a' under Gentoo?

I tested the branch rpi-5.3.y of upstream kernel
(https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux.git), the v3d driver is better
now, but still has some problems. So I guess the Gentoo uses 4.19
kernel?

BTW, we have another bug to track this issue
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-raspi2/+bug/1852035,
from the comment #14 and #15 of that bug, we could see even applying the
latest patches of v3d, the driver still has some problems.

So we need to disable the driver v3d in the kernel until the branch
rpi-5.3.y has the perfect fix for this driver.

2019-11-24 Thread Hui Wang
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1848790 ***

@Avio,

I could see "mmc-bcm2835 fe30.mmcnr: could not get clk, deferring
probe" too, but didn't meet your problem.

After the system boot up, it will mount the mmcblk0p2 as rootfs and mount
mmcblk0p1 as /boot/firmware. I don't know why you couldn't see mmcblk0p1/2.
Could you use ethernent, if yes, you could upgrade the kernel to 1012, to do so:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install linux-image-5.3.0-1012-raspi2
sudo reboot

If you still can't see mmcblk0p1/p2, could you please upload the
complete dmesg to lp?

thx.

[Bug 1853772] Re: package debconf 1.5.73 failed to install/upgrade: package debconf is already installed and configured

2019-11-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in
the application being used for the package installation process.
Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state
and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service
apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package
again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this
one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1853787] [NEW] RM: package no longer needed

2019-11-24 Thread Colin Watson
Public bug reported:

lazr.enum was packaged for the benefit of lazr.restful (see bug 535135),
which was removed from the archive a while ago. As far as I can see
lazr.enum no longer has any reverse-dependencies, and it doesn't seem
worth keeping it in the archive.

This is currently on the list of Ubuntu-specific Python 2 binary
packages. I've just uploaded a new release to PyPI that adds Python 3
support (version 1.2), and I considered packaging it for Ubuntu.
However, since it has no reverse-dependencies it doesn't seem worth
spending the time to do that.

(FWIW, Launchpad itself does still use lazr.enum, and for that matter
lazr.restful, but it does so via virtualenv and pip rather than using
the packages from Ubuntu, so Launchpad's use of lazr.enum doesn't need
to be a blocker to removing it.)

[Bug 1853786] [NEW] Fullscreen stuck in various applications. Ubuntu 18.04 with Unity.

2019-11-24 Thread Diego
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Release: Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
Lightdm Version: 1.26.0-0ubuntu1

In some programs I can't get out of fullscreen.

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver with Unity. I installed Unity because I
simply don't like GNOME. The problem is that some programs get stucked in
fullscreen, freezing the screen, not getting any response of any kind. The
mouse moves, but that's it. Killing the process does not resolve the issue.
This problem came with Ubuntu 18.04 or Unity since the release of Bionic
Beaver. At this point I'm used to it. I get rid of it by going to terminal with
ctrl+alt+f4 and typing "sudo service lightdm restart" or by rebooting with
"sudo reboot now". But It's kind of a nuisance having to do this everytime. The
programs that get stucked are Stellarium, Whatsdesk, SMPlayer and some flash
players in firefox. Everyday I upgrade Ubuntu and Lightdm hoping this to be
solved, but nothing happens.
Weird thing: When I restart lightdm the problem dissapears until I sleep or
reboot my notebook.

Attached here is the "cat /var/log/syslog" output when the problem is
ocurring using Whatdesk (at 19:53:01 I restart lightdm).

[Bug 1850876] Re: CONFIG_DRM_V3D is disabled for linux-raspi2 of eoan

2019-11-24 Thread Ian Pitt
Thanks for the new kernel. I booted it and noted that the right drivers
were now being used ( Accelerated video and glxinfo showing it was using
VC4 rather than the original llvmpipe. However:

1) On Mate, the Pi locked up within a few seconds of resizing windows
2) On Ubuntu, it took a few minutes but again the machine locked up after
using applications.

Ahead of failures, areas of the screens were flashing/jittering. Once
locked, only a reboot would gain control of the console.

4GB Pi 4, all 64bit kernels - rock solid without acceleration on the
former kernel, rock solid WITH acceleration when using Gentoo.

I reverted to the older kernel and the machine is back to being stable,
albeit with out the acceleration.

[Bug 1853030] Re: No connection through SSH over WIfi after kernel update

2019-11-24 Thread Stefan
Tried this, but I cannot find anything that means something to me with
respect to the problem.

The log is attached.

Row 1: Here the RPI starts with ethernet cable attached and wlan0
configured. Both adapters seem to take their IPs. -> I can estasblish
SSH to both.

Row 743: I'm removing the ethernet cable and at this moment the eth0
goes down. I'm trying to establish SSH to wlan0 IP a couple of times
without success. After that I'm switching off the RPi, plug in the
ethernet cable and switch on again.

Row 761: This the boot after power on.

[Bug 1853784] [NEW] Format button has no effect when I right click a USB and select Format

2019-11-24 Thread Seija Kijin
Public bug reported:

Whenever I boot up ubuntu and attempt to format a plugged-in or mounted
USB, the Format button has no effect when clicked on; not even an error
message. If there is an error, Ubuntu should let me know or not allow me
to format by disabling to format option.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot up Ubuntu on the hard disk with a live-usb of ubuntu plugged in (this
will be the USB to attempt to format)
2. Log in and open Files
3. Right-click the USB and select "Format"

Expected Results:
Either the Format menu appears, an error message appears if I am unable to
format the disk, or the Format button is disabled.

Actual Results:
Files allows the format button to be clicked, but nothing happens when it is
clicked on.

[Bug 1853783] [NEW] Nautilus crashes whenever I attempt to format a USB with a partition table

2019-11-24 Thread Seija Kijin
Public bug reported:

Whenever I attempt to format a USB I previous used for a live install back into
a regular FAT disk, nautilus reports "gtk_widget_set_visible: assertion
'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)" and then crashes.

I ran "ubuntu-bug nautilus" right after I clicked the Format button,
right before the crash itself.

To reproduce the issue:
1. Insert an ubuntu live usb
2. Open Files
3. Right-click on the USB
4. Select Format
5. If the format menu appears, click the red format button

Expected Results:
Either the USB partitions are cleared and the entire disk is formatted to be
FAT (preferred), or if that is not an option, Files should warn me it has a
partition table and close instead of opening the Format Menu and then crashing
later.

Actual Results:
Gnome-Disks alerts the USB cannot be formatted, and then nautilus crashes.

[Bug 1612916] Re: [Tohsiba Portege Z20T-C] Internal speakers don't work after standby

2019-11-24 Thread apsaras
Thank you for the reply.

Are you saying that you need confirmation from the original bug reporter
(Michael) that his problem still exists with the latest BIOS and latest
Ubuntu, and that confirmation from other people won't do because we
might have a different problem?

I can understand the reasoning behind that policy, but I think in this
case it's reasonably clear that we all have the same problem here. If we
were all to create separate bug reports describing exactly the same
symptoms then that would create confusing distractions and dilute the
good efforts of people like you, would it not?

Of course, if it's the only way to proceed then we can create a new
report. (Can we be sure that it won't immediately get closed as a
duplicate?)

[Bug 1853766] Re: xfwm4 produces high load when external screen is connected

2019-11-24 Thread Johannes Brakensiek
It is the compositor. CPU load keeps low when I deactivate the
compositor before connecting the display. Many other issues stay though:

- Position of the second display is not remembered - have to adjust it every
time.
- Windows are positioned the wrong way - they are repositioned adjusting to the
height of the second screen, but not to the screen they are displayed on
- Setting one display as main does not have any effect, panels etc stay where
they were

In my case, the buttons are completely inactive. I have a recording of
my desktop, to see it reacting. I can use whtaever is behind, this is
only on screen, it is not a real window, but it covers what is bellow.

Guys, with today's reboot Night Light works with Wayland. Now I see a
fix for Mutter has been released for #1847551 that I installed on Nov 21
but didn't reboot until today. Indeed it was not an issue with Wayland,
sorry for reporting it as such.

[Bug 1853774] [NEW] [Discussion] Keep track of upstream adwaita-icon-theme

2019-11-24 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Public bug reported:

Since Yaru is now syncing with upstream adwaita-gtk and gnome-shell
themes, I think it would be a good idea to also keep an eye on upstream
adwaita-icon-theme.

adwaita-icon-theme mostly contains symbolic and action icons that correspond to
code changes in gnome-shell, gnome-control-center and the rest of gnome apps.
In every gnome development cycle, adwaita-icon-theme adds, fixes, or enhances
its symbolic icons in order to reflect the code changes in the gnome stack.
adwaita-icon-theme does not contain app icons since gnome apps ship their own
icons.

An example to elaborate:

In the 3.34 development cycle, gnome added new battery icons in order to better
represent the battery charge states:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/adwaita-icon-theme/issues/6

That has resulted in:

21 new battery icons in adwaita-icon-theme and moving the legacy battery icons
to a legacy folder:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/adwaita-icon-theme/commit/377044f755c3ec994f661d787f50e633487b929d

Code changes in gnome-shell to use the new icons, if available, and fall back
to the existing icon names for compatibility with older icon themes:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/commit/bd18313d125aa1873c21b9cce9bbf81a335e48b0

Without reflecting the new changes in Yaru*, gnome-shell would still be falling
back to the legacy icons, and not showing a better charge state as a result.

[Bug 1853758] Re: Forcing incompatible Nvidia drivers

2019-11-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1853758/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
