[Bug 1860483] Re: [nouveau] screen background overlaid with scan type artifact in red
OK, thanks. Assuming the bug isn't just hiding and wouldn't reappear later in 18.04.3 if used long enough, then this implies a fix exists somewhere in the HWE packages (which are the difference between 18.04 fully updated and 18.04.3 fully updated). The only two sets of HWE packages I can think of that affect graphics are Xorg and the kernel. Firstly Xorg: Does the bug occur if you log into "Ubuntu on Wayland" instead? Secondly the kernel: Does the bug occur if you install the latest test kernel packages from here? https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v5.5-rc7/ Remember to run 'uname -a' to check which kernel is active. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860483 Title: [nouveau] screen background overlaid with scan type artifact in red To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1860483/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1860510] Re: ubuntu is not installing
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download, corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and you'll see messages like these :- Jan 22 06:25:53 ubuntu kernel: [ 689.036701] SQUASHFS error: zlib decompression failed, data probably corrupt Jan 22 06:25:53 ubuntu kernel: [ 689.036707] SQUASHFS error: squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x306bd2f Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or faulty device (inc.r bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error, please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to 'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and use the 'check disc for defects' option to validate your media before install to ensure a good download & write. [Bug 1860502] Re: nilfs2 support broken in kernel 5.3.0-26-generic #28~18.04.1-Ubuntu
I went back to 5.3.0-24-Ubuntu and nilfs2 works fine. Please note that support for nilfs2 is also broken with the mainline kernels in the series 5.4.x. Perhaps its the same change that breaks nilfs2 in 5.3.0-26-Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860502 Title: nilfs2 support broken in kernel 5.3.0-26-generic #28~18.04.1-Ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nilfs2/+bug/1860502/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1856516] Re: Excessive memory usage by gnome-shell in 19.10
This laptop *does* have a secondary GPU. Interesting. I *did* test whether firing up the secondary GPU resulted in memory increase, and it didn't seem to. *But* I don't think texture memory and KMS framebuffers are exposed as RSS anyway, so this leak would have been serious, but hidden. I wonder if that also fixes the “you get a single black frame each time the secondary GPU is powered up” bug? 22 Jan 2020 6:01:00 am Daniel van Vugt : > Though I'm only assuming you're still a fan of secondary GPUs. > > -- > You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug > report. > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1856516 > > Title: > Excessive memory usage by gnome-shell in 19.10 > > Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: > Incomplete > > Bug description: > The gnome-shell process on my system is currently at 5473M VIRT 1224M > RSS 566M SHR; this seems a bit excessive. > > This session has been up for >4 days with a number of suspend/resume > cycles in there, so this might be a slow leak? > > ProblemType: Bug > DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 > Package: gnome-shell 3.34.1+git20191024-1ubuntu1~19.10.1 > ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0+bcachefs.git20191120.71cdaa7a-1-generic > 5.3.10 > Uname: Linux 5.3.0+bcachefs.git20191120.71cdaa7a-1-generic x86_64 > NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair > ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu8.2 > Architecture: amd64 > CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME > Date: Mon Dec 16 16:50:10 2019 > DisplayManager: gdm3 > ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-shell > InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-08-29 (109 days ago) > InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 19.10 bcachefs (20190828) > ProcEnviron: > LANG=en_AU.UTF-8 > LANGUAGE=en_AU:en > PATH=(custom, user) > SHELL=/usr/bin/fish > XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= > RelatedPackageVersions: mutter-common 3.34.1+git20191107-1ubuntu1~19.10.1 > SourcePackage: gnome-shell > UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) > > To manage notifications about this bug go to: > https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1856516/+subscriptions > -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1856516 Title: Excessive memory usage by gnome-shell in 19.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1856516/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1860459] Re: Got an error during installation
First off Paul, thanks for the prompt reply, I sincerely appreciate this - can't imagine Apple or MS ever replying to my bugs :-) Secondly, the installation went thru without me changing the source of target devices - i simply tried the whole process again. That in itself is strange but I guess, for an opensource software, its acceptable. Cheers! [Bug 1860500] [NEW] consider disabling apt-secure's Label check in Ubuntu
Public bug reported: As of 1.5 (per apt-secure(8)) apt checks and warns if a repository's Label value changes. This probably makes sense for Debian, where folks may be tracking stable instead of buster, and will want to be warned when stable starts pointing somewhere else. However, Ubuntu doesn't have such repository aliases and, furthermore, for PPAs, the Label value is populated from the "display name" of the PPA. This means that a PPA owner, fixing what they may assume is a simple typo, will require their users to take action before they receive further updates from the PPA, which is less than ideal. Please consider disabling this check by default in Ubuntu, if only for PPAs. ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860500 Title: consider disabling apt-secure's Label check in Ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1860500/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1860483] Re: screen background overlaid with scan type artifact in red
It starts during the boot process. The display is normal from the Dell boot/startup screen through the grub screen to the Ubuntu logo screen and the password screens; in the instant that the top tool bar and left tool bar come on screen, the scan/diagonal artifact appears. The system was normal yesterday when I shut down and on boot-up this morning, it wasn't. I did run the Ubuntu software updater yesterday, and I didn't cycle power until shutdown last night. [Bug 1845909] Re: [SRU] IPv6 link local address is assigned even when LinkLocalAddressing=no|ipv4
** Description changed: [impact] - when a networkd interface is configured with LinkLocalAddressing=no, - networkd still assigns a link-local address to it + in some situations when a networkd interface is configured with + LinkLocalAddressing=no, networkd still assigns a link-local address to + it [test case] see comment 3. note I was only able to reproduce this at boot time; if the vlan interface is removed (i.e. 'sudo ip l del pppoe') and then networkd restarted, the pppoe interface is created and does not have a link-local - address. + address. This is due to this bug being triggered by timing, as a vlan + interface is raised by the kernel when its parent interface is raised, + in this case by networkd itself. [regression potential] - this moves the point when ipv6ll is configured; regressions would most - likely involve failure to correctly configure an ipv6ll address when - desired. + this changes how ipv6ll addresses are managed and dropped, as well as + changing when foreign addresses are dropped (later in config process). + Any regressions would likely be around incorrectly setting ipv6ll + addresses, or complete failure to complete interface configuration. + + [scope] + + this is fixed upstream by: + https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/13927 + + and also requires the upstream PR referenced in the original description: + upstream patch: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/13565 + + this is required for focal (uploaded already), eoan, and bionic. It may + be required for xenial. [other info] - this bug was attempted to be fixed by 'debian/patches/networkd-honour-LinkLocalAddressing.patch' from upstream issue 9890, using a commit that does not correctly fix the issue and was never accepted upstream: - https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/9890#issuecomment-455168751 - - this SRU completely reverts that patch, and adds the correct fix which - was merged upstream: - https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/0e2fdb83bb5e22047e0c7cc058b415d0e93f02cf - - that commit is already included in Eoan so this sru is needed only for - Disco. + Note, the original description below is incorrect, the issue/patch it + references is not enough to fix this issue. original description: -- upstream issue: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/12886 upstream patch: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/13565 The upstream fix will be available in systemd 244. > The header of debian/patches/lp1845909/0001-network-rename- linux_configure_after_setting_mtu-to-linux.patch in the eoan upload appears to be a lie; sorry, I didn't change the patch description from upstream, where my patch actually did only change the function name. This patch includes some change from upstream commit 4ff296b02411bb4f0dc38f48cbab06f8645d2a08 because it is the proper way to handle errors in the mtu handler function, but it's a large patch that I didn't want to fully backport without reason. snapd itself does not have any concept of newer/older revisions, if the snap in the channel is different to the one installed it will be offered as a refresh candidate. I'm surprised the install doesn't fail in this situation :( I'm a bit leery of doing too much ahead of time validation of the mirror but I guess we could at least do a HEAD request for the Release file or something, would weed out most typos and silly mistakes. ** Package changed: subiquity (Ubuntu) => subiquity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860352 Title: User supplied mirror server not verified, no errors reported To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/1860352/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1845909] Re: [SRU] IPv6 link local address is assigned even when LinkLocalAddressing=no|ipv4
The header of debian/patches/lp1845909/0001-network-rename- linux_configure_after_setting_mtu-to-linux.patch in the eoan upload appears to be a lie; I see substantive changes to the set_mtu_handler() function in this patch, such as dropping an early return. And the statement in the description of this bug that "that commit is already included in Eoan so this sru is needed only for Disco" is at odds with the 5 patches related to this bug that are in this debdiff. Marking incomplete, pending clarifications. ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu Eoan) Status: In Progress => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1845909 Title: [SRU] IPv6 link local address is assigned even when LinkLocalAddressing=no|ipv4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/systemd/+bug/1845909/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1860490] [NEW] Eoan update: upstream stable patchset 2020-01-21
Public bug reported: SRU Justification Impact: The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or a minimally backported form of that patch.
