[Bug 1847361] Re: Upgrade of qemu binaries causes running instances not able to dynamically load modules
I see a drawback, people could want to "apt remove" a package to stop its functionality. And with the fix for this bug this will only be true after a reboot. The conceptual way out of this as much as possible IMHO is to: - trigger doing the backup to /var/run only on upgrade but not on remove - have "purge" and "remove" delete the /var/run/qemu/#files# completely - we can't remove the dir as we could have e.g. gui and block packages handled differently This isn't perfect there could be special-cases constructed to make this not work. But again - it won't break just not get the benefit of "working on upgrade" and OTOH we want to keep the promise that "remove/purge" will make things stop to work/exist. Note: "deconfigure" in this case matches "upgrade" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1847361 Title: Upgrade of qemu binaries causes running instances not able to dynamically load modules To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1847361/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1863930] Re: SSH 1.99 clients fail to connect to openssh-server 1:7.6p1-4ubuntu0.3
Thanks Kyle, I agree the testcase is great and works in my tests. This is exactly what I needed to craft the SRU template as needed. But OTOH about severity of this, as it will mean everyone having ssh installed (which is almost every installation out there) will have to download and install a new package. I was wondering if there is a (can be more complex and doesn't have to have step-by-step instructions) real use-case that is making this bug more severe by breaking it. If there isn't I'm tempted to say it is a correct bug and fix, but doesn't qualify to do the SRU on its own. We might then still prep it completely but hold it in -proposed to only release it together with some other more severe update that will force a new download anyway. Looking forward to your answer and adding the SRU template for now ... ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Description changed: - SSHD closes the connection and logs the error message below when a - client presents a protoversion of "1.99": + [Impact] - Protocol major versions differ for X.X.X.X port X: + * The version check in ssh was broken no more following RFC 4253 and +thereby denying some clients that it shouldn't + + * Upstream fixed that and this is backporting the changes to bionic. + + [Test Case] + + # Prep + * configure the ssh server to generally work + # Testcase + $ wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1863930/+attachment/5332797/+files/test_bug_1863930.py + $ apt install python3-paramiko + $ python3 test_bug_1863930.py localhost (or whatever your host is) + + Will report "Server is not patched." or "Server is patched. + + [Regression Potential] + + TODO + + [Other Info] + + * n/a + + -- + + + SSHD closes the connection and logs the error message below when a client presents a protoversion of "1.99": + + Protocol major versions differ for X.X.X.X port X: SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_7.6p1 Ubuntu-4ubuntu0.3 vs. SSH-1.99-XXX RFC 4253 only states that clients should treat a server's protoversion of "1.99" as equivalent to "2.0"; however, some backward-compatible clients send a protoversion of "1.99" and expect the server to treat it as "2.0". [Bug 1865817] Re: lubuntu 20.04 debugging `sudo -E calamares -d` requested caused segfault, unable to wipe sda9 fs
I re-ran command expecting same segfault, alas no issues. iso.qa.ubuntu detail available at http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/408/builds/208447/testcases/1701/results Comment #14 of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1864787 was re- run and where I had crash, then didn't??? I wonder if I loaded and hadn't closed `KDE partition manager` which caused this 'crash'? I'm tempted to mark this incomplete, and re-try with `kde partition` manager open and see if segfault occurs, as I re-tried the same command expecting failure but didn't have any issues (already mentioned comment #14 of 1864787). [Bug 1566357] Re: Unable to type passwords with the "Japanese (Anthy)" input method
So, I've found this issue through a question on https://askubuntu.com/questions/1214208/input-language-switching-in- password-fields . It looks like I'm facing this bug and it makes GNOME basicly unusable for me. The behaviour I've encountered is as follows: * I have 2 input languages set: Korean (default one) and Russian. Korean language has English build in it, so I don't have add English to my system. Korean uses IBus for input (even in English mode). * Hidden input fields across the system do not like IBus input languages. When I focus the hidden input (password field), the Korean is removed from the input language options, and I'm left only with Russian. And as my passwords are not in Russian, I cannot log in to anything. This includes password fields in browsers, WIFI connection dialog etc. * If the password field has the "show password" button, I press it, and in this mode I can use Korean as normal. * Even more frustraiting. I've added English input language just for passwords. Now when I set the focus on a password field, Korean is removed, so two languages are left: Russian and English. Since I don't usually use English, Russian is chosen. I press Ctrl+Space to change it to English. At this moment input language switching dialog is shown, which makes the focus leave the password field, Korean added to the list, and being chosen. Then the dialog disappears, password field is focused, Korean removed again and my active language is Russian again. It took me 5 minutes to log into Ubuntu One with GNOME (by typing my password in an open form in another field and copy-paste it). Does anyone knows if there is any workaround for this? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1566357 Title: Unable to type passwords with the "Japanese (Anthy)" input method To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1566357/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1865817] [NEW] lubuntu 20.04 debugging `sudo -E calamares -d` requested caused segfault, unable to wipe sda9 fs
Public bug reported: I was requested by wxl/Walter to re-run calamares installer using -d to gain more detail on failures related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1864787 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1864791 Please refer to command #10 & #11 for details on what I did... or in summary --- Attempt to re-install Lubuntu 20.04 daily over prior Lubuntu 20.04 image. sda8 is /home for prior install; is being re-used with NO-FORMAT. sda9 was / and it'll be re-formatted. I firstly ran QA-test install and got error 1864787. Any notes will be on iso.qa and in on other bug report. I then exited calamares but did NOT reboot (*) I opened KDE Partition to ensure no partitions were mounted; I noted that sda9 now showed as UNKNOWN type (as it had before; this bug will now occur). No partitions (inc. swap) were mounted so nothing was done in KDE Partition Manager and I exited I re-ran the (*) step but this time used `sudo -E calamares -d` where I noted a SegFault.. I hadn't noticed that before (but wasn't usually running calamares from term so maybe it was just me that didn't notice). Nothing unusual appeared on screen. [Bug 1864787] Re: Lubuntu failed install "sfdisk --force --append /dev/sda"
Boot daily on d755-5 or box that has been having this issue. BIOS, no encryption, manual partitioning, internet Install to replace existing Lubuntu 20.04 with new daily image. Selected SDA8 - was /home before and will be again, no-format Selected SDA9 - was / for lubuntu 20.04 before, this had to be selected as new partition 'reiserfs' so I get 'format' to stick, on clicking OK I'd re-enter and change back to 'ext4' If I select 'format' and let it remain ext4, on re-entry into the area (for validation of entry) it'll be tagged 'keep'. As far as I recall it fails with same issue on keep, but I'm selecting format being what I entered in iso.qa.ubuntu.com as purpose of install. ** Attachment added: "~/.cache/calamares/session.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1864787/+attachment/5332863/+files/session.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1864787 Title: Lubuntu failed install "sfdisk --force --append /dev/sda" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1864787/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1861359] Re: swap storms kills interactive use
Andrea, this new kernel looks promising. Linux millbarge 5.4.0-17-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Fri Feb 28 16:18:44 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Unfortunately I didn't check the reproducer before rebooting: the error message I get with it now suggests that it might not work any more. However, this visualization https://platform.leolabs.space/visualizations/leo sure feels like it would have the heft to reproduce the problem. It worked fine for me in both firefox and chromium-browser: sarnold 4987 14.1 3.0 3042112 495860 ? Sl 03:42 0:46 /usr/lib/firefox/firefox sarnold 5070 7.3 1.8 2651760 293108 ?
