[Bug 1870729] [NEW] DHCP Server regularly killed code=killed, status=6/ABRT
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 20.04 The idc-dhcp- server version is isc-dhcp-server: Installed: (none) Candidate: 4.4.1-2.1ubuntu3 Version table: 4.4.1-2.1ubuntu3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages The DHCP server is being regularly killed, when searching google the bug looks very similar to an older bug regarding accessing a lease file, that was fixed year ago. As a temporary fix in systemd I have enabled a restart every time the main process fails. The error got worse when i start to run a pair of dhcp servers syncing state between each other I regularly see the following in the syslog Apr 4 00:04:55 gw sh[1500]: ../../../../lib/isc/unix/socket.c:3361: INSIST(!sock->pending_send) failed, back trace Apr 4 00:04:55 gw sh[1500]: #0 0x7f36befeda4a in ?? Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. If you change wallpapers, does the issue still occur? [Bug 1870721] [NEW] Ubuntu dock showing shortcut to "Dash to dock"
Public bug reported: 1-) The release of Ubuntu: Ubuntu 20.04 Beta - everything updated - clean install, no installed extra extensions or programs 2-)The version of the package you are using: Ubuntu dock extension version: 67ubuntu20.04.3 3) What you expected to happen: Right clicking "Show applications" shouldn't show "Dash to dock settings" By default in "Dash to dock" - which Ubuntu dock is based on - when right clicking the "Show applications", the user gets a shortcut to the Dash to Dock settings. But this behavior is also present in the Ubuntu version of the extension. And if you try to open this "Dash to dock settings" using the Ubuntu dock (which shouldn't have an option to this shortcut at all), I get a notification with the following error message " Execution of "gnome-shell-extensions-prefs" failed: Command not found ". [Bug 1489855] Re: Change to mount sequence order breaks persistence on casper-rw partitions
After some additional tests, it seems I was a bit too hasty to declare that there exists a regression, as, even though a similar error is displayed as the one from the original bug, the persistent partition appears to be mounted regardless. For the record however, `/var/log/boot.log` displays the following error while mounting the persistent partition: ln: /tmp/mountroot-fail-hooks.d//scripts/init-premount/lvm2: No such file or directory mount: mounting /cow on /root/cow failed: No such file or directory adduser: The user `ubuntu' already exists. [FAILED] Failed unmounting /cdrom. Also, the introduction of `/casper/vmlinuz$casper_flavour` in `grub.cfg` does add a new hurdle to utilities, such as Rufus, that attempt to add the required 'persistent' keyword to the kernel options, because, of course, the new `$casper_flavour` variable makes it even more difficult to insert the keyword in a location that is not going to cause trouble. I sure wish persistence on Linux didn't require developers of boot utilities to treat every single release as its own special case, and/or end up to the boot process to throwing error messages that seem to indicate that there exists and issue. As such, I would strongly encourage to test at least UEFI boot in the following manner: - One FAT32 partition where the whole content of the Ubuntu ISO has been extracted (and grub.cfg patched to enabled persistence) - One ext3 or ext4 casper-rw partition following the FAT32 partition (since this has been the longtime recommended way of enabling persistence for Ubuntu) The above is a a very reasonable way to expect persistence to be achieved for 20.04 LTS, so if it does throw errors, as it currently appears to do, I would assert that there are still some improvements that could be made. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1489855 Title: Change to mount sequence order breaks persistence on casper-rw partitions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1489855/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1863255] Re: Programs installed in Snap format do not detect the keyboard
I was able to fix this by changing the input method settings. When first opening it, I see a window saying: Current configuration for the input method: * Active configuration: default (normally missing) * Normal automatic choice: ibus (normally ibus or fcitx or uim) * Override rule: * Current override choice: (en_US) * Current automatic choice: ibus * Number of valid choices: 2 (normally 1) The override rule is defined in /etc/default/im-config. The configuration set by im-config is activated by re-starting X. Explicit selection is not required to enable the automatic configuration if the active one is default/auto/cjkv/missing. Available input methods: ibus xim Unless you really need them all, please make sure to install only one input method tool. I hit Okay. Then another window pops up saying: Do you explicitly select the user configuration? Select No, if you do not wish to update it(recommended) select yes, if you wish to update it. I select "yes" On the new window I see that "default" is select. (use auto mode set /etc/default/im-config) I went to that file and cat it, the result below: # Default im-config mode (see im-config(8)) OLDIFS="$IFS" IFS=':' desktop= for val in $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP; do for d in 'GNOME' 'MATE' 'UKUI' 'Unity'; do [ "$d" = "$val" ] && { desktop="$d"; break 2; } done done IFS="$OLDIFS" if [ -n "$desktop" ]; then # Start best input method unless overridden below IM_CONFIG_DEFAULT_MODE=auto else # Start best input method only if CJKV environment and not overridden below IM_CONFIG_DEFAULT_MODE=cjkv fi # Set locale dependent preferred IM over standard auto mode if [ "$desktop" != 'GNOME' ]; then IM_CONFIG_PREFERRED_RULE="zh_CN,fcitx:zh_TW,fcitx:zh_HK,fcitx:zh_SG,fcitx:ja_JP,fcitx:ko_KR,fcitx:vi_VN,fcitx" fi # User and system wide configuration is normally done via im-config program. # The above IM_CONFIG_PREFERRED_RULE sets locale dependent preferred IM # override rule. [Bug 1870692] [NEW] gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in __GI_raise()
Public bug reported: QA-test using 2020-04-02 daily ISO of focal fossa It was a system problem detected (prior boot; .crash file saved to hdd). I don't know cause and didn't notice any side-effects, but system didn't have wallpaper showing correctly, and I was having trouble moving dock items around ** What I did (1) system booted with black background (no wallpaper) as reported on another reoprt (1854621), and in exploration of that i'd changed wallpaper many many times.. (2) I also did some testing for 1867613 and moving icons on dock (left side of screen, right side of screen & at bottom where). (3) normal qa-tests ** Issue I got a System Problem detected, so NO abnormal behavior, and I don't know cause. This was a crash that occurred just prior to reboot; I'm filing on same box after reboot (so new session, but should be ~identical). I don't know cause. [Bug 1489855] Re: Change to mount sequence order breaks persistence on casper-rw partitions
Please note that this appears to be broken again in Ubuntu 20.04! Could the Ubuntu maintainers please treat this bug, which have been very negatively affecting scores of Ubuntu users a bit more seriously? By the looks of it, the plight of 18.04 LTS users will continue in 20.04 when it comes to being able to use persistent partitions that reside on the same drive, and the inability for Ubuntu to permanently fix an issue that has already been affecting users for YEARS is going to become all the more damaging. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, understand that this issue is VERY NEGATIVELY affecting Ubuntu users! [Bug 1854621] Re: ubuntu 20.04 daily boots with no background, selecting other background has warped picture
Changing wallpapers and on occasion the wallpaper would show correctly, change it again sometimes it could get two change twice in a row without glitches, then back to jarry-blocky mess for part of image on next change (and usually 3-5 after that). See #4 for pic; though % of jarry-block image and location varies, up to 80% of screen jarry-blocky but not always top of screen; can be lower portion, or top & bottom but not middle... it's not consistent though more commonly not right at top -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1854621 Title: ubuntu 20.04 daily boots with no background, selecting other background has warped picture To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1854621/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1870642] Re: Upgrade espeak-ng in Binoic Beaver to at least 1.49.2+dfsg-8 (from 1.49.2+dfsg-1)
These directions document upgrading eSpeak NG on Ubuntu 18.04. eSpeak NG is the default voice for Orca. On Ubuntu 18.04, the default version of eSpeak NG does not speak certain types of punctuation (including the vertical bar (|), caret (^), greater-than (>) and less-than (<)) when used in Orca's "say-all" or speaking flat review lines or words, even with punctuation set to all. This is not particularly critical for most uses, but these characters are critical for programming and systems administration. Upgrading eSpeak NG as follows will result in this punctuation being read correctly when punctuation is set to all and a say-all or flat review line or word command is issued. COMMAND NOTATION This document uses the dollar sign ($) as a prompt at the beginning of each command. This indicates that a command can be run as a non- elevated/non-root user. Do not type the dollar sign when typing the command. In many directions, the hash (#) is used to indicate that a command should be run as root or using elevated privileges. In these directions, this notation is not used. Instead commands are given with sudo when elevated privileges are required. INSTRUCTIONS 1. Check running version of eSpeak NG. The package name is the second field on each line, while the version is the third field. $ dpkg -l | grep espeak The output should be: ii espeak-ng-data:amd64 1.49.2+dfsg-1 amd64Multi-lingual software speech synthesizer: speech data files ii libespeak-ng1:amd641.49.2+dfsg-1 amd64Multi-lingual software speech synthesizer: shared library ii speech-dispatcher-espeak-ng0.8.8-1ubuntu1 amd64Speech Dispatcher: Espeak-ng output module 2. If this is less than 1.49.2+dsfg-8 (As of 2020-04-01, it is 1.49.2+dsfg-1 on Ubuntu 18.04), these directions are known to work. 3. Download the requisite packages: $ wget http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/e/espeak-ng/libespeak-ng1_1.49.2+dfsg-8_amd64.deb $ wget http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/e/espeak-ng/espeak-ng-data_1.49.2+dfsg-8_amd64.deb 4. Then install them: $ sudo dpkg -i libespeak-ng1_1.49.2+dfsg-8_amd64.deb espeak-ng- data_1.49.2+dfsg-8_amd64.deb 5. Check the installed eSpeak NG version: $ dpkg -l | grep espeak The output should be: ii espeak-ng-data:amd64 1.49.2+dfsg-8 amd64Multi-lingual software speech synthesizer: speech data files ii libespeak-ng1:amd641.49.2+dfsg-8 amd64Multi-lingual software speech synthesizer: shared library ii speech-dispatcher-espeak-ng0.8.8-1ubuntu1 amd64Speech Dispatcher: Espeak-ng output module 6. Reboot the machine. Turning Orca off and on several times may also pick up the change, but this has not been entirely reliable in testing. 7. Test that the following characters are correctly read by issuing a flat review speak line (Orca+i) | ^ < > 8. Enjoy :) These directions pull in an upgraded version of eSpeak NG from Ubuntu 19.04. By doing so, we ensure that your system will continue to receive upgrades to eSpeak NG as new software is added to Ubuntu 18.04, as long as the new software is greater than the version we have just installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1870642 Title: Upgrade espeak-ng in Binoic Beaver to at least 1.49.2+dfsg-8 (from 1.49.2+dfsg-1) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/espeak-ng/+bug/1870642/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1870642] [NEW] Upgrade espeak-ng in Binoic Beaver to at least 1.49.2+dfsg-8 (from 1.49.2+dfsg-1)
Public bug reported: Workaround directions follow this report in a comment. eSpeak NG prior to commit a766b22 (https://github.com/espeak-ng/espeak- ng/commit/a766b22643653402171ba8b482a9ed3f419f57bb) did not properly interpret certain characters (including the vertical bar (|), caret (^), greater than sign (>), and less than sign (<)) as punctuation. Thus, when passing --punct (without arguments, for "read all punctuation") these characters were not read at all. This is particularly critical for users doing software development or systems administration using screen readers (such as the built-in Orca), where the addition or removal of one of these characters can significantly change the meaning of what is being read. eSpeak NG in Bionic Beaver (1.49.2+dfsg-1) does not include the fix for this issue. However, eSpeak NG 1.49.2+dfsg-8 (as seen in Disco Dingo) includes the fix for this issue. I have tested that upgrading to the Disco Dingo packages on a Bionic Beaver system corrects this issue. This minor version bump will significantly increase the accessibility of Bionic Beaver 18.04 LTS for users of Orca, other screen readers, and possibly other users and uses of eSpeak NG. Release Info: $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS Release:18.04 Package Info: $ apt-cache policy libespeak-ng1 libespeak-ng1: Installed: 1.49.2+dfsg-1 Candidate: 1.49.2+dfsg-1 Version table: *** 1.49.2+dfsg-1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages Expected Behavior: On Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver), running: $ espeak-ng --punct "< > | ^" should produce the audio "less than greater than v bar circumflex". [Bug 1870636] [NEW] x11vnc keeps display blazing away forever
Public bug reported: On my lappy i'm running x11vnc -forever -noxdamage -nowf -usepw -auth guess and on my desky i'm running vncviewer, which works pretty well, as the lappy keyboard and touchpad aren't quite as handy as a real keyboard and mouse. Odd thing is tho, the lappy screen will usually still be on even when i've been away for hours. Not always tho. i think the correlation is whether i happened to leave the desky mouse on top of the vncviewer window or not. Seems to me it would be good to timeout the lappy screen when everything's been idle awhile, regardless of where i happened to leave the mouse. dunno but i wonder whether my mouse happens to be one of those mice that wiggles a little every couple minutes even when not touched. if so maybe X is smart about that and maybe x11vnc isn't. But X is running on both ends, so i dunno. i judge this to be not a rfe but a bug, since timeout and powerdown are already working some of the time, tho usually, not. [Bug 1870630] [NEW] Jack has loads of xruns after upgrading from Ubuntu Studio 19.04 to 19.10
Public bug reported: DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=19.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=eoan DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 19.10" Used software: QJackCtl Guitarix Before upgrading there were no xruns experienced with the exact same QJackCtl configuration. After upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10 there is a flood of xruns every second. Starting Jack from QJackCtl, the Messages window shows Jack is started with the following command line: creating alsa driver ... hw:USB|hw:USB|128|3|48000|0|0|nomon|swmeter|-|32bit configuring for 48000Hz, period = 128 frames (2.7 ms), buffer = 3 periods Then moving windows, mouse or similar causes xruns. When enabling Xfce compositing from Window Manager Tweaks, the xruns are coming in like crazy. So looks like this is potentially related to graphics drivers, perhaps? Disabling compositing relieves the issue somewhat, but still moving windows etc. creates xruns fairly easily. There were no similar issues in Ubuntu Studio 19.04. $ dmesg |grep nouveau [3.725494] nouveau :02:00.0: NVIDIA MCP77/MCP78 (0aa480a2) [3.738960] nouveau :02:00.0: bios: version 62.77.35.00.00 [3.772469] nouveau :02:00.0: fb: 512 MiB stolen system memory [4.200225] nouveau :02:00.0: DRM: VRAM: 512 MiB [4.200227] nouveau :02:00.0: DRM: GART: 1048576 MiB [4.200230] nouveau :02:00.0: DRM: TMDS table version 2.0 [4.200231] nouveau :02:00.0: DRM: DCB version 4.0 [4.200234] nouveau :02:00.0: DRM: DCB outp 00: 01000300 001e [4.200236] nouveau :02:00.0: DRM: DCB outp 01: 01011332 00020010 [4.200237] nouveau :02:00.0: DRM: DCB conn 00: [4.200238] nouveau :02:00.0: DRM: DCB conn 01: 3161 [4.204148] nouveau :02:00.0: DRM: MM: using M2MF for buffer copies [4.243766] nouveau :02:00.0: DRM: allocated 1920x1080 fb: 0x5, bo 08947388 [4.243854] fbcon: nouveaufb (fb0) is primary device [4.289493] nouveau :02:00.0: fb0: nouveaufb frame buffer device [4.296591] [drm] Initialized nouveau 1.3.1 20120801 for :02:00.0 on minor 0 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: jack noveau xruns -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1870630 Title: Jack has loads of xruns after upgrading from Ubuntu Studio 19.04 to 19.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1870630/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1870627] [NEW] Cannot change symbols in charts in LibreOffice Calc 6.4
Public bug reported: After the upgrade to LO 6.4 in Kubuntu 20.04, it is not possible to change the symbols used to identify points in charts created in Calc. I have filed a bug report with LO, but thought I would mention it here as well. The symbols used seem to be chosen at random. I've gotten boxes and triangles and cannot change them to my preferred symbol, the plus sign. I've used LO for years and have never encountered this problem before.
