[Bug 1872760] Re: i915 - after return from suspend display is flickering

2020-04-17 Thread arno
Not sure that I know how to install that kernel.
I checked the previous
5.4.0-21-generic #25
kernel, but that flickers too after resuming from suspend.

[Bug 1869571] Re: Vertical dual monitor setup with main monitor on bottom causes overview to only use one eighth of screen

2020-04-17 Thread Risman Rangga Pratama
Hi, this issue happens to me to. But I figured it out that this only
happens in vertical multi-monitor setup with the dock on the left or on
the right. If I move the dock to the bottom, the issue disappears. So
that could be a temporary workaround for you until this bug is solved.

[Bug 1873545] Re: Permission denied error from show-motd when updates available

2020-04-17 Thread Hayden Barnes
/etc/update-motd.d/91-release-upgrade:

 #!/bin/sh

 # if the current release is under development there won't be a new one
 if [ "$(lsb_release -sd | cut -d' ' -f4)" = "(development" ]; then
exit 0
 fi
 if [ -x /usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/release-upgrade-motd ]; then
exec /usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/release-upgrade-motd
 fi

calls /usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/release-upgrade-motd:

 stamp=/var/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/release-upgrade-available
 if [ -f "$stamp" ]; then
# Stamp exists, see if it's expired
now=$(date +%s)
lastrun=$(stat -c %Y "$stamp") 2>/dev/null || lastrun=0
expiration=$(expr $lastrun + 86400)
if [ $now -ge $expiration ]; then
# Older than 1 day old, so update in the background
/usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/check-new-release -q >
"$stamp" & # <--- Line 31
elif [ -s "$stamp" ]; then
# Less than 1 day old, and non-empty, so display now
cat "$stamp"
echo
fi
 elif [ "$(id -u)" = 0 ]; then
# No cache at all, so update in the background
/usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/check-new-release -q > "$stamp" &
 fi

on 20.04 wsl:

 $stat -c '%A %a %n' /var/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/

 drwxr-xr-x 755 /var/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/

 $ ls -la /var/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader
 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 8 13:31 .

same on 16.04 wsl

I don't think /var/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/release-upgrade-available can be
created because /var/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/ belongs to root.

This works fine in containers where users are privileged by default but
runs into an issue when WSL starts as an unprivileged user.

Users are not going to invoke motd with sudo normally and this error is
confusing to inexperienced users so it should be fixed.

/usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/release-upgrade-motd is in
ubuntu-release-upgrader-core:

[Bug 1872945] Re: risc-v doubles getting clobbered somehow

2020-04-17 Thread William Grant
I've been running your test code on a HiFive Unleashed board with our
5.4.0-24 for a couple of hours so far, and no issues yet.

I saw widespread crashes with qemu 4.2 that went away when downgrading
(though I went straight back to 3.1), so I'm pretty confident there is a
qemu bug, but I haven't had time to dig into it.

[Bug 1801781] Re: Ubuntu Kickstart networking deprecated since v18.04+

2020-04-17 Thread Dave
James, is there anyway we can get Kickstart updated to include automatic
configuration of the DNS servers? I believe this is the only holdup I
have from being able to leverage Kickstart to it's fullest since my
network uses private DNS servers. Thanks and appreciate the follow-up in
all of this!

+ infamous GT 330m on 20.04 with -proposed enabled and booting with the
+ following grub manipulations to set gmux to the integrated LVDS:

outb 0x710 2 - switch LVDS to intel
outb 0x728 1 - switch internal DDC to intel
outb 0x740 2 - switch displayport out to intel

I am not using outb 0x750 0, so that the 330m remains powered on. It
still works just fine-- the only thing broken is the LVDS connection to
the internal panel. I disable it with video=LVDS-2:d.

--> NOTE: This mod is only for the convenience of not having to deal
with a phantom second screen once booted (both GPU's have the LVDS and
edid of the internal screen hooked up). The computer boots fine and the
bug reproduces exactly the same with or without it.

I tested with all these modifications disabled, and this still occurred
  - it's not specific to my configuration. A user booting stock Ubuntu on
this laptop, or as I discovered later, any nouveau + i915 hardware
combination will run into this as well.

Anyways, I'm keeping the 330m enabled to use DRI_PRIME to run
applications on the 330m for good reason- it supports OpenGL 3.3 while
HD Graphics (arrandale aka Ironlake) is the only HD Graphics iGPU stuck
on OpenGL 2.1, thus otherwise vastly restricting the modern graphics
  workloads of the system.

When explicitly booting with gdm3 WaylandEnable=false (login and desktop
both xorg), everything works as expected - single screen driven by the
i915's KMS, nouveau with DRI_PRIME working, returning NVA5 stats and
functional with OpenGL 3 apps as well.

On GDM3 wayland, however (by default-- which is why I think this bug is
rather important), gdm3 starts to a black screen with cursor. The login
screen and shell still seem to be running-- I can type my password
blindly and press enter and the cursor freezes briefly as it does during
a non-broken login. After a few seconds, I can press the volume up/down
keys and I hear the volume sound. Pressing the app grid shortcut makes
the cursor lag, just as it does when I disable the nvidia at the pcie
link level and rendering works on i915. Backlight control also works on
the login screen and once logged in. It's as if everything except the
actual rendering to the screen is working.

The minute I pass nouveau.modeset=0 in cmdline, or cut the power to the
330m at the hardware level with outb 0x750, Wayland starts working
again. The issue has something to do with GDM3's handling of a KMS-
enabled nouveau GPU, whether it is headless or not (no difference with
  video=LVDS-2:d or not).

To confirm my suspicions that it is not specific to the macbook pro
line, this exact same issue (Xorg works wayland doesn't) also occurred
on a desktop dual-gpu setup, with a GTX 760 (kepler) on nouveau tandem
with a Haswell HD Graphics G3258-- with any combination of displays, all
on the Intel, mixed on nvidia and intel, or all on nvidia, as long as
both cards were modesetting, a black screen with cursor but blindly
  working gnome followed.

This bug has existed since at least 19.04, if not earlier-- I replaced
the nvidia gpu in that system with a Radeon 7870 when it ran that
release due to this bug, as a matter of fact.

[Bug 1814983] Re: zfs poor sustained read performance from ssd pool

2020-04-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Colin, thanks for the link to https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/issues/9966
; unfortunately I think that's a different problem, my meta use seems
less drastic than the github issue

arc_prune 41859269059
arc_meta_used 43590932168
arc_meta_limit 494868305920
arc_dnode_limit 44294967296
arc_meta_max479969748624
arc_meta_min416777216

It looks like there's still 14898557296 bytes available for arc_meta.

Do you know off-hand what the comment about the l2arc issue is? My l2arc
is 1TB, well above 320 gigs.

Here's where my stats are now (the system is not currently under any
real load):

[Bug 1873541] [NEW] black screen with cursor and on nouveau + i915

2020-04-17 Thread Daniel Rodriguez
Public bug reported:

This bug should be able to be reproduced on any computer with i915 +
nouveau simultaneously modesetting, booting to stock gdm3 (wayland by
default). My main example is a MacBookPro6,2 with the infamous GT 330m
on 20.04 with -proposed enabled and booting with the following grub
manipulations to set gmux to the integrated LVDS:

outb 0x710 2 - switch LVDS to intel
outb 0x728 1 - switch internal DDC to intel
outb 0x740 2 - switch displayport out to intel

The minute I pass nouveau.modeset=0 in cmdline, or cut the power to the
330m at the hardware level with outb 0x750, Wayland starts working
again. The issue has something to do with GDM3's handling of a KMS-
enabled nouveau GPU, whether it is headless or not (no difference with
video=LVDS-2:d or not).

Andreas, this system is running 18.04 LTS, 0.7.5-1ubuntu16.8,
4.15.0-91-generic.

It has 128 gigs of ram; the workload is running ripgrep on an entire
unpacked Ubuntu source archive, roughly 193 million files, 3.8 TB of
data, on a single raidz1 ssd vdev.

So I have no illusions that this workload fits into the available
memory, but it's unfortunate that the best performance I've found so far
includes dropping caches every few minutes.

Thanks

[Bug 1868711] Re: Unknown command 'bootz' - try 'help'

2020-04-17 Thread Dave Jones
This was a consequence of the arm64 images not using a compressed kernel
(and me being slightly lazy in the construction of the boot script - or
trying to keep the script minimal, depending on your point of view :).

Now the kernels are compressed, the script won't be trying bootz
erroneously on a platform where it doesn't exist (it will if the kernel
is ever uncompressed again - but frankly I'd like to be warned of that
case!)

[Bug 1873537] [NEW] PCIe AER device recovery failed due to logic flaw

2020-04-17 Thread Jay Vosburgh
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:

During PCI Express Downstream Port Containment (DPC) recovery,
certain types of failures do not recover due to a logic flaw
in pcie_do_recovery().

The upstream git commit log explains the change:

PCI/ERR: Update error status after reset_link()
Commit bdb5ac85777d ("PCI/ERR: Handle fatal error recovery") uses
reset_link() to recover from fatal errors. But during fatal error
recovery, if the initial value of error status is PCI_ERS_RESULT_DISCONNECT
or PCI_ERS_RESULT_NO_AER_DRIVER then even after successful recovery (using
reset_link()) pcie_do_recovery() will report the recovery result as
failure. Update the status of error after reset_link().

You can reproduce this issue by triggering a SW DPC using "DPC Software
Trigger" bit in "DPC Control Register". You should see recovery failed
dmesg log as below:

  pcieport :00:16.0: DPC: containment event, status:0x1f27 source:0x
pcieport :00:16.0: DPC: software trigger detected
pci :04:00.0: AER: can't recover (no error_detected callback)
pcieport :00:16.0: AER: device recovery failed

Fixes: bdb5ac85777d ("PCI/ERR: Handle fatal error recovery")
Link:
https://lore.kernel.org/r/a255fcb3a3fdebcd90f84e08b555f1786eb8eba2.158584.git.sathyanarayanan.kuppusw...@linux.intel.com

Note that a second prerequisite patch is necessary as well. This patch,

commit b5dfbeacf74865a8d62a4f70f501cdc61510f8e0
Author: Kuppuswamy Sathyanarayanan
Date: Fri Mar 27 17:33:24 2020 -0500

PCI/ERR: Combine pci_channel_io_frozen cases

is a code readability change, and makes no functional changes.

Testcase:

On a system with DPC enabled, setpci may be used to set the DPC Software
Trigger bit (bit 6, value 0x40) in the DPC Control register of a suitable
PCIe device (a PCIe bridge, for example).

On a system lacking the fix, the output will be as shown above (i.e.,
culminating in the "device recovery failed" message). With the fix
applied, the device successfully recovers, resulting in a message of the
form

pcieport :d9:01.0: AER: Device recovery successful

Regression Potential:

The risk of regression is low, as (a) the path in question currently does
not work, and (b) the changes are minimal, comprising only a housekeeping
change and the logically correct updating of a status variable that did
not previously occur.

[Bug 1872200] Re: apt does not accept globs and regexes in some cases

2020-04-17 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I stumbled upon this when trying to install gnome-user-docs with all the
available languages:

$ sudo apt install gnome-user-docs*
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package gnome-user-docs*

So far I can do what I want by using apt-get:

sudo apt-get install gnome-user-docs*

But I read in NEWS that the change is planned to propagate to apt-* ...
Is there no less intrusive way to deal with package names such as g++?

[Bug 1368499]

2020-04-17 Thread Gentoo-eshoes
Currently (1.6.1) if "Remember history" was on, and you enter settings
and switch it to off, then [Close], the file in which history is stored
ie. ~/.cache/xfce4/clipman/textsrc remains intact until the next time
something is copied into clipboard.

Similarly if the setting is turned on, the file is created only next
time something is copied.

(just pasting without copying first, has no effect on the file)

[Bug 1873525] Re: Gnome 3.36 with two monitors

2020-04-17 Thread Dark Dragon
Yes, it is the same problem.

When additionally installing the _Dash to Dock_ extension from
extensions.gnome.org, then you can easily change the settings (also from
Ubuntu Dock). Unchecking the option "Panel mode: extend to the screen
edge" (as noted in the link from my description:
https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-
dock/issues/1136#issuecomment-603669287) makes the error disappear (but
the dock is no longer full height).

Also (as noted in the link in my description:
https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-
dock/issues/1136#issuecomment-615452981), I am using two monitors with
very different DPI. Therefore (also as noted in the same comment), it
might be linked to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1826543.

Answering your questions:
1. Upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 (before it worked)
2./3. Did you even click on the link
(https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/issues/1136#issuecomment-615452981)?
There it is even documented with pictures!

[Bug 1873525] Re: Gnome 3.36 with two monitors

2020-04-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read 'How to report bugs effectively'
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Bug 1873530] [NEW] Super-key not opening application overview on secondary keyboard layouts

2020-04-17 Thread thomas van oss
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04 the super-key is no longer opening the
activities overview when the keyboard layout is set to a secondary
layout.

After switching the order of the layouts I use around the issue kept
persisting only on the (new) secondary layout.

I would expect the super-key behaviour to be consistent across all
keyboard layouts.

[Bug 1873528] [NEW] sshd overrides from /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/*conf apply in reverse lexographic order

2020-04-17 Thread Robert C Jennings
Public bug reported:

I am looking at the addition of 'Include /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/*conf'
for use in Ubuntu cloud images. I wanted to add a config file and see
if I had done things correctly. I assumed that the files were sourced
lexographically (based on use of glob() in readconf.h) so that I could
document how users could override our tuning. But it appears from 'sshd
-T' output and observed behavior that the first file in
/etc/sshd_config.d/ to define a parameter wins. I see in 'sshd -ddd'
output that they are parsed lexographically but it seems that their
settings apply in reverse (or whichever comes first) if that makes
sense. I'd like to understand if this is correct behavior and get it
documented.

Steps to reproduce on focal with openssh-server 1:8.2p1-4:

1. Create the following files in /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/ with the content shown
below:
40-cloudimg-settings.conf:
  ClientAliveInterval 110
  PasswordAuthentication yes
  PermitRootLogin no

50-cloudimg-settings.conf:
  ClientAliveInterval 120
  PermitRootLogin yes

60-cloudimg-settings.conf:
  ClientAliveInterval 180

2. Check what sshd thinks the values will be with 'sshd -T|grep -i
clientaliveinterval' and 'sshd -T|grep permitrootlogin'
clientaliveinterval 110
permitrootlogin no

(The tuning I cared about was ClientAliveInterval for my work but
PermitRootLogin is easier to demonstrate)

3. Run '/usr/sbin/sshd -ddd' to check debug output for config file parsing
behavior:
debug2: load_server_config: filename /etc/ssh/sshd_config
debug2: load_server_config: done config len = 296
debug2: parse_server_config_depth: config /etc/ssh/sshd_config len 296
debug2: /etc/ssh/sshd_config line 13: new include /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/*.conf
debug2: /etc/ssh/sshd_config line 13: including
/etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/40-cloudimg-settings.conf
debug2: load_server_config: filename
/etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/40-cloudimg-settings.conf
debug2: load_server_config: done config len = 71
debug2: parse_server_config_depth: config
/etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/40-cloudimg-settings.conf len 71
debug3: /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/40-cloudimg-settings.conf:1 setting
ClientAliveInterval 110
debug3: /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/40-cloudimg-settings.conf:2 setting
PasswordAuthentication yes
debug3: /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/40-cloudimg-settings.conf:3 setting
PermitRootLogin no
debug2: /etc/ssh/sshd_config line 13: including
/etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/50-cloudimg-settings.conf
debug2: load_server_config: filename
/etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/50-cloudimg-settings.conf
debug2: load_server_config: done config len = 46
debug2: parse_server_config_depth: config
/etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/50-cloudimg-settings.conf len 46
debug3: /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/50-cloudimg-settings.conf:1 setting
ClientAliveInterval 120
debug3: /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/50-cloudimg-settings.conf:2 setting
PermitRootLogin yes
debug2: /etc/ssh/sshd_config line 13: including
/etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/60-cloudimg-settings.conf
debug2: load_server_config: filename
/etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/60-cloudimg-settings.conf
debug2: load_server_config: done config len = 25
debug2: parse_server_config_depth: config
/etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/60-cloudimg-settings.conf len 25
debug3: /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/60-cloudimg-settings.conf:1 setting
ClientAliveInterval 180

4. Set a root password and unlock the account.

5. Attempt to ssh as root to the instance with a password.

Observation:
 * Root password login is denied if PermitRootLogin is 'no' in 40-foo.conf and
'yes' in 50-foo.conf
 * Root password login is allowed if PermitRootLogin is 'yes' in 40-foo.conf
and 'no' in 50-foo.conf

It appears in 'sshd -ddd' output that files are parsed in lexographic
order (40-foo.conf before 50-foo.conf) but the behavior observed
indicates that the value set in 40-foo.conf overrides 50-foo.conf which
is counter to expectations.

[Bug 1859592] Re: Bluetooth unavailable after updates - Reading Intel version information failed (-110)

2020-04-17 Thread Redsandro
@mizzao that sounds a lot like my "solution" comments/2 indeed. However,
during hot reboots on my dual boot setup, the Bluetooth DID work in
Windows for me, but not in Linux. For Linux, a cold boot was required.

So I am inclined to believe that the Linux Bluetooth driver puts the
Bluetooth hardware in a certain state that persists across hot reboots
but doesn't affect the Windows driver from successfully interacting with
the Bluetooth hardware.

I believe this to be a software bug where a certain state or signal from
the Bluetooth hardware is misinterpreted by the Linux driver, causing it
to stop working.

[Bug 1872163] Re: focal chroots broken due to change in sources.list

2020-04-17 Thread Chad Smith
Just put up a slightly different branch for review that should fix this.
The issue on focal is that now we have empty lines in the full
/etc/apt/sources.list. I don't think we have to limit it to one line do
we?

Here is a changeset that ignores those empty lines, and still appends a
new apt source line for each pocket defined.

[Bug 1872541] Re: MySQL client fails to connect, seems to force SSL

2020-04-17 Thread Lars Tangvald
The problem with using ssl is that you are using a client (openssl 1.1
.1f-based) that will not speak anything older than TLS 1.2, trying to
connect to a server that can only speak TLS 1.1.

>From 1.1.1f-1ubuntu1 changelog entry
>(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+changelog):
- Set OPENSSL_TLS_SECURITY_LEVEL=2 as compiled-in minimum security
level. Change meaning of SECURITY_LEVEL=2 to prohibit TLS versions
below 1.2 and update documentation. Previous default of 1, can be set
  by calling SSL_CTX_set_security_level(), SSL_set_security_level() or

Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 20.04, the "Activities" menu had display problems.

but should be resolved before release since Ubuntu Dock uses setting
"Panel mode: extend to the screen edge".

** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
