[Bug 1871960] Re: package libpam-modules 1.1.8-3.6ubuntu2.18.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: pre-dependency problem - not installing libpam-modules:amd64

2020-04-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package pango1.0 - 1.44.7-2ubuntu4

---
pango1.0 (1.44.7-2ubuntu4) focal; urgency=medium

  * Backport some Debian changes to try to fix upgrade issues (lp:
#1871960)

  [ Simon McVittie ]
  * d/shlibs.local: Upgrade all binary packages in lockstep.
Like many projects where one source package builds multiple binary
packages, Pango has private headers that share non-public interfaces
between its binary packages. Upgrading one binary package from this
source without upgrading the others is not something that its upstream
developers are ever going to test or support, and neither should we.
(Closes: #958017)
  * libpango-1.0-0: Add Breaks on older libpango*-1.0-0.
This should ensure that buster users can't get a broken partial upgrade
by upgrading only libpango-1.0-0, but not the others, from 1.42.x to
1.44.x.

[Bug 1874021] Re: avahi-browse -av is empty, mdns not working in arduino ide

2020-04-21 Thread Jeroenst
apport information

** Description changed:

When I started the arduino IDE my port list is empty. This list relies
on multicast DNS which is served by avahi.

When running the avahi-browse -av command on ubuntu 18.04 I get a list
of al mdns devices. On ubuntu 20.04 the're no mdns devices reported.

The avahi-daemon is running. And when executing netstat -nlp | grep 5353
I see avahi-daemon is listening. When also running tcpdump port 5353 I
see mdns packages arriving. But still avahi-browse -av is empty.

iptables -A shows no rules and policies are accept
  ufw is disabled

I also removed apparmor but also that didn't make any difference.

On both ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04 the avahi version is 0.7.

[Bug 1874174] Re: uefi certificate failed, intrafds code decode failed , i have tried so many times but not successful installation

2020-04-21 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download,
corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and
you'll see messages like these :-

Apr 22 02:23:13 ubuntu kernel: [ 2557.139333] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Apr 22 02:23:13 ubuntu kernel: [ 2557.139339] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x44697c13

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or
faulty device (inc. bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error,
please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to
'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and note the validation
of your ISO before install to ensure a good download & write.

Possibly useful : https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-
verify-ubuntu#0 and
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck (where
CD refers to your install media, be it CD, DVD, HDD, SSD, thumb-drive
etc)

[Bug 1874178] [NEW] Unlocking existing session needs two attempts after selecting Switch User

2020-04-21 Thread Jane Atkinson
Public bug reported:

This has been occurring during the Xubuntu post-install test. It's not
the same as Bug #1776475, as it's not necessary to have logged in as
another user (or even for another user to exist) for the problem to
happen.

My sequence of actions is:

*Create new user.
*Open a program (usually Thunar or Terminal).
*Lock session.
*Click on "Switch User". <-- This is all that's necessary to trigger it.
*Enter password to unlock my own session.
*Then there's a delay and screen goes black, then the unlock prompt appears
again.
*The second time, my session unlocks.

This particular report is from a QEMU/KVM vm, but it's also been
happening on a bare-metal install.

[Bug 1872863] Re: QEMU/KVM display is garbled when booting from kernel EFI stub due to missing bochs-drm module

2020-04-21 Thread Matthew Ruffell
I have verified that enabling the bochs-drm kernel module on bionic does
not cause any regressions for PowerKVM machines when the video device is
VGA=std.

TLDR: See Screenshot:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/475658598/Screenshot%20from%202020-04-22%2015-14-13.png

This is in response to the main cause of regression concern, LP
#1378648, which got bochs-drm disabled in the first place, on yakkety.

On Christian's advice, I created a ppc64el instance on Canonistack, with
the m1.medium flavor and c8c120bd-3d55-4e2d-8cc5-93039a62524f image
(ubuntu/ubuntu-bionic-18.04-ppc64el-server-20200407-disk1.img).

>From there, I installed the KVM packages and a xfce4 desktop, and got
xrdp working. I then installed virt-manager.

I modprobed the kvm_pr kernel module on my instance to enable nested kvm
on ppc64el.

>From there, I installed Ubuntu 18.04.4 Server ppc64el, using virt-
manager. The "Machine Type" was pseries-2.12, and the Video Model was
set to "VGA" [1].

[1]:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/475658622/Screenshot%20from%202020-04-22%2015-14-04.png

Upon booting, the system was using the Open Firmware frame buffer:

[0.888072] Using unsupported 800x600 vga at 20008100, depth=32,
pitch=3200
[0.890480] Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 100x37
[0.892181] fb0: Open Firmware frame buffer device on
/pci@8002000/vga@6

$ cat /proc/fb
0 OFfb vga

Which is what LP #1378648 wanted.

I then enabled my ppa where my test packages were built:

https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf272653-test

and installed new kmod and 4.15.0-96-generic test builds with bochs-drm
enabled in the kernel config, and removed from the kmod blacklist.

I then rebooted, and found that system boots successfully, and does not
get hung up at the bug in LP #1378648, indicating that it has been fixed
before 4.15.

I checked "lsmod" and bochs-drm has been loaded, and looking at dmesg,
initially the Open Firmware frame buffer device is used, and later in
the boot, bochs-drm is loaded, and takes over the frame buffer.

See screenshot [2] for proof that bochs-drm is running and functions
correctly in virt-manager.

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/475658598/Screenshot%20from%202020-04-22%2015-14-13.png

A complete dmesg from this boot can be found here [3].

Interesting parts:

$ cat /proc/fb
0 bochsdrmfb

With good dmesg outputs, and positive test results in virt-manager, I am
happy to say that enabling bochs-drm will not cause any regressions on
ppc64el, and with that, I hope it satisfies your request for testing.

the problem persists:

We need to try without extensions as a first step because so many bugs
are caused by extensions.

I ran into this exactly as smoser described using using overlay in a
container that is backed by zfs via lxd. I believe this will become
more prevalent as people start to use zfs root with Focal 20.04.

It looks #48 shows some service is causing the long delay -- can you try
'systemctl list-jobs' to see active jobs, as the "Hint" says? :-)

[Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2020-04-21 Thread Dexuan Cui via ubuntu-bugs
I created a Ubuntu 19.10 VM via "Quick Create..." and still can not
reproduce the long delay of > 1 minute: the VM can boot up to the Xorg
GUI desktop in 26 seconds.

My Windows 10 has the same version info: Version 1909 (OS Build
18363.778).

At the grub screen, can you press 'e' and, manually edit the kernel
parameter: please remove the "quiet splash $vt_handoff" and add
"ignore_loglevel sysrq_always_enabled". You may want to enable the
serial console logging by adding the kernel parameter "console=ttyS0",
and attach putty (Run as Administrator) to the named pipe
\\.\pipe\debug_slow_vm, assuming you configure the VM serial console by
"Set-VMComPort -VMName your_vm_name -number 1 -path
\\.\pipe\debug_slow_vm").

This way, you should get more messages on the VM serial console when the
VM boots up. When you see the long delay, you can press SysRQ+w (i.e.
the Right Alt + SysRq + w) to show the blocked processes, if any. This
may provide more info about the long delay. BTW, here I assume your have
a keyboard that has the SysRq key. :-)

It looks systemd can be configured to use "--log-level=debug --default-
standard-output=kmsg --default-standard-error=kmsg", which may provide
more info as well, if we check 'dmesg' and/or the VM serial console.

KDE Partition Manager won't open after calamares failure, seg-faulting
which I've mentioned before in reports; so I reboot & start again.

Checked BRTFS file system on sda9, it reports no errors, detected with
name of "sus_sys" I'd applied (I was expecting Unknown, but it probably
didn't format and just re-used)

[Bug 953876] Re: Can not specify different DNSBLs for IPv4/IPv6

2020-04-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

There is only one hook for checking DNSBLs in
acl/30_exim4-config_check_rcpt which is run unconditionally for both
IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. This can lead to problems when IPv6 addresses
- are checked against IPv4-only lists. See exim spec 40.35.
+ are checked against IPv4-only lists.
+
+ From exim spec 40.35:
+
+ 40.35 DNS lists and IPv6
+ If Exim is asked to do a dnslist lookup for an IPv6 address, it inverts it
nibble by nibble. For example, if the calling host’s IP address is
3ffe::836f:0a00:000a:0800:200a:c031, Exim might look up
+
+ 1.3.0.c.a.0.0.2.0.0.8.0.a.0.0.0.0.0.a.0.f.6.3.8.f.f.f.f.e.f.f.3.blackholes
+ .mail-abuse.org
+
+ Unfortunately, some of the DNS lists contain wildcard records, intended
+ for IPv4, that interact badly with IPv6. For example, the DNS entry
+
+ *.3.some.list.example.A127.0.0.1
+
+ is probably intended to put the entire 3.0.0.0/8 IPv4 network on the
+ list. Unfortunately, it also matches the entire 3::/4 IPv6 network.
+
+ You can exclude IPv6 addresses from DNS lookups by making use of a
+ suitable condition condition, as in this example:
+
+   denycondition = ${if isip4{$sender_host_address}}
+ dnslists = some.list.example

[Bug 1874161] [NEW] kpcli is unable to open a kdbx file if the file is locked by both a password and a key file

2020-04-21 Thread Alex Wang
Public bug reported:

I created a kdbx file through the KeePassX GUI application. This
database is locked with both a password and a key file. I try to unlock
the database through the kpcli command line tool with the following
commands inside the kpcli prompt:

  open

I am then prompted for my password. After I enter my password, kpcli
presents to me the following error message:

Couldn't load the file kpstuff2.kdbx: The database key appears invalid
or else the database is corrupt.

However, I am able to unlock the file through the KeePassX GUI
application. I am also able to unlock other database files that are
locked only with a password. I am unable to unlock databases that are
locked with both a password and a key file.

Expected behavior: I think kpcli should be able to unlock a database
with a password and a key file if the key file is generated through
KeePassX.

[Bug 1873128] Re: calamares wants to install to 3.5" 1.44MB floppy (& boot loader will get written to /dev/fd0 if sda selected)

2020-04-21 Thread Chris Guiver
I booted up Lubuntu 19.04 (alpha x86) oon hp dx6120mt (pentium 4 dual-
core, 3gb, nvidia 7600gt clone)

and by default it's selected storage device is "Unknown /dev/fd0"

Booted without the floppy in the drive it's default is "/dev/sda", it
only offers the /dev/fd0 when floppy is inserted on machine boot (just
like d755-5 in original post)

It's the same floppy used to test on d755-5, but on this box (and this
older `calamares`) it's not detecting partitions totalling ~1920GB on
the 1.44mb floppy

[Bug 832030] Re: Cron error from exim4-base: "run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/exim4-base exited with return code 123"

2020-04-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
I'm not able to reproduce this using the current codebase.

Note that exim_tidydb needs run like this:

$ /usr/sbin/exim_tidydb /tmp misc
Tidying Exim hints database /tmp/db/misc

The exim4-base script itself has changed over the years, and I suspect
it's fixed whatever the original problem is. For reference, the
corresponding code now looks like this:

# if we reach this, invoking exim_tidydb from start-stop-daemon has

# failed, most probably because of libpam-tmpdir being in use

# (see #373786 and #376165)

find $SPOOLDIR/db -maxdepth 1 -name '*.lockfile' -or -name 'log.*' \
-or -type f -printf '%f\0' | \
runuser --shell=/bin/bash \
 --command="xargs -0r -n 1 /usr/sbin/exim_tidydb $SPOOLDIR > /dev/null"
\
 Debian-exim

Is the original issue still reproducible with Ubuntu 18.04 or 20.04?

I was on 16.04 back in 2017 when I wrote this. I don't see this on my

[Bug 597056] Re: HP Touchsmart 600-1005xt No sound from Internal Speakers

2020-04-21 Thread OEB
Hello, I have Ubuntu 18.04 installed on my HP touchsmart 600.
Audio still doesn't work either the internal speakers, or if I connect outside
speakers through 3.5mm audio jack.
A USB headset works though and I can listen to YouTube using it.

2020-04-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
This sounds familiar, I think a fix for it may have come through
recently. Is this still reproducible on eoan or focal?

More explicit steps to reproduce this (so we can do it in an lxc
container) would help a lot.

[Bug 1873965] Re: booting into recovery mode hangs under 20.04

2020-04-21 Thread Jack Howarth
I have been able to eliminate the focal 5.4.0-26-generic kernel packages
as the origin of this bug. Manually installing those onto an
installation of Ubuntu 19.10, produced a fully functional boot. More
importantly the recovery mode boot from grub worked fine. So the problem
under 20.04 would appear to be something outside of the kernel itself.

[Bug 1874158] [NEW] Upgrading Ubuntu to version 18.04 Invalid package information

2020-04-21 Thread gared.herdrich...@sapo.pt
Public bug reported:

Upgrading Ubuntu to version 18.04

Invalid package information

After updating your package information, the essential package 'ubuntu-minimal'
could not be located. This may be because you have no official mirrors listed
in your software sources, or because of excessive load on the mirror you are
using. See /etc/apt/sources.list for the current list of configured software
sources.
In the case of an overloaded mirror, you may want to try the upgrade again
later.

I tested an upgrade from Bionic to Focal with -proposed enabled (I had
to remove the disabling of -proposed in DistUpgradeController.py) and
did not encounter any of the following error messages:

[Bug 1873937] Re: nvidia-340 prevents booting into single user mode under Ubuntu 20.04

2020-04-21 Thread Jack Howarth
This bug doesn't exist on the same hardware (a 2008 MacPro with Mac
ROM'd GTX680) under current Ubuntu 19.10 with the nvidia-340 package
installed. In that case, booting the default 5.3.0-46-generic kernel in
single user mode produces the expected prompt.

[Bug 1770093] Re: Ubiquity crashes with mount points that are FAT16/32

2020-04-21 Thread Dan Streetman
> are you aiming for the 20.04 release

no; it's definitely too late for that, but possibly could happen as a
SRU post-release.

> My only issue with your patch is dropping the "defaults". This seems
to always be applied in pi images, but I've no clue if it is redundant.

Yeah, I was not sure if the options needed to be fully reset to
'defaults' or if just dropping the umask and/or gid was enough. It
would help if we could understand why ubiquity is crashing with the
umask/gid mount options.

If you're not able to test, I think it would make sense to let this bug
sit until you, or anyone else, can resume testing/verification. As
@waveform said, most people using Pi will be using pre-installed images.

I'm on CC for this bug, so whenever you (or, anyone else interested in
this bug) is available to test (and then, verify) the patch, let me
know.
