[Bug 1876239] [NEW] Bluetooth doesn't power on if it was turned off without disconnecting headset

2020-04-30 Thread Surya Teja K
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -rd:

Description: Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
Release: 18.04

apt-cache policy pkgname:

linux-image-5.3.0-51-generic:
  Installed: 5.3.0-51.44~18.04.2
  Candidate: 5.3.0-51.44~18.04.2

500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/main amd64 Packages
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Problem:

I use a bluetooth headset for listening to music and I have noticed an
issue where if I use "Turn Off" option from the Bluetooth shortcut while
it is connected to my Bluetooth headset, chances are, the next time I
power on the laptop.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Have QCA9565/AR9565 WLAN+BT chip
2. Install Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
3. Connect Bluetooth to a bluetooth headset.
4. After few minutes, power down Bluetooth from gnome-control-center OR using
"Turn Off" option in Bluetooth shortcut in top bar WITHOUT DISCONNECTING the
headset.

Expected Behavior:
Bluetooth should work irrespective of how it was turned off.

Actual Behavior:
Need to restart my laptop to gain access to Bluetooth.

Note:

I upgraded bluez to version v5.50 from PPA according to this article:
https://medium.com/@overcode/fixing-bluetooth-in-ubuntu-pop-os-18-04-d4b8dbf7ddd6
but this didn't work

[Bug 1876238] [NEW] [Dell Inspiron 1525, SigmaTel STAC9228] No sound at all. Internal Speaker Not Detected. Dummy Output. After Upgrading From 19.10 to 20.04 LTS Focal

2020-04-30 Thread Rajasekharan N
Public bug reported:

Internal speakers were working fine until I upgraded the system from
19.10 LTS to 20.04 LTS on April 23, 2020.

Uninstalled and reinstalled alsamixer and pavucontrol, but of no use.

Killed pavucontrol and reloaded alsamixer numerous times, but of no use.
(`pulseaudio -k && sudo alsa force-reload`)

Waited for two kernel updates, but of no use. Presently on 5.4.0-29.

Tried upgrading the kernel even up to 5.6, but of no use.

The Intel sound card is not getting detected.

Tried every trick like adding "options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0" in
the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, but of no use.

Out of the two external audio output sockets for headphone, one is
working. So I can either connect a headphone or an external speaker to
this jack to tide over the crisis for the time being.

[Bug 1876237] [NEW] QDesktopServices::openUrl() fails when called on local files from within a snap

2020-04-30 Thread James Henstridge
Public bug reported:

This is something we might want to fix to help people who build snaps
based on Focal's Qt.

The QGenericUnixServices implementation of openUrl() passes an O_PATH
file descriptor to xdg-desktop-portal when it detects it is running
under snap confinement. This is rejected because xdg-desktop-portal
expects an O_RDONLY file descriptor, leading to the operation failing.
More details are available in the upstream bug report I filed:

https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-83939

This originated from a report on the Snapcraft forum here:

2020-04-30 Thread Hossein Lotfi
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  I noticed this after installing 20.04.
  At the beginning of new audio activity (playing video or generting system
sounds eg. terminal bell) screen goes blank for few seconds.I can also
reproduce it by opening settings in gnome and going to audio section.

  The pulseadio in -vvv mode is attached around one of these events.
  This might not be entirely a pulseadio issue, so appreciate a pointer on how
to narrow it down to the source of the issue.

[Bug 1876236] [NEW] [snap] no access to /tmp

2020-04-30 Thread Jora Sucharik
Public bug reported:

All accesses to /tmp are going to /tmp/snap.chromium/tmp, i.e. the files
you downloaded to /tmp must be searched where. The problem is that a
normal user has no permissions to read /tmp/snap.chromium/tmp. This is
not an only chromium problem, but exist for most snap packages as well
(yeah, the strict confinement). Since the 20.04 release ubuntu no longer
has official chromium deb packages, I consider this behavior a bug.

[Bug 1876235] [NEW] "there is no parameter $1" for named queries with numeric parameters

2020-04-30 Thread Smylers
Public bug reported:

If a named query has positional parameters (with $1, $2, and so on),
attempting to use it just gives the error message “there is no parameter
$1”, the same as if no argument had been provided for that query.

Documentation of how the feature is supposed to work:
https://www.pgcli.com/named_queries.md

Example:

  postgres> \ns i SELECT $1
  Saved.
  Time: 0.003s
  postgres> \n i 42
  there is no parameter $1
  LINE 1: SELECT $1

It does work using %s instead of $1, but that isn't documented, and
doesn't allow for re-ordering parameters or using one multiple times.

This broke on upgrading Ubuntu to 20.04 LTS (from 16.04), which has
pgcli version 2.2.0. Existing named queries that I had saved in my
config and which had previously worked started giving the above error
message.

Aren't the nagios-plugin packages deprecated in favor of
monitoring-plugins?

| $ apt-cache search nagios-plugins-basic
| nagios-plugins-basic - transitional dummy package

I initially tried to apply the patches as is from upstream but it
didn't apply cleanly requiring various other things (ssl/utils, utils,
etc.). Ended up being way too large:

| https://launchpadlibrarian.net/477251813/monitoring-
plugins_2.2-3ubuntu2haw4_2.2-3ubuntu2haw5.diff.gz

So took a step back and revisited the changes from upstream. The most
important bit being this:

| https://github.com/nagios-plugins/nagios-
plugins/commit/2b38350d546ef9632ccd90e300eeaf6eda0ca32c#diff-
458353164a55a2e140dfc531b6ac2c38L1131-R1150

So took that, applied it, and built a package with the diff being much
much smaller:

| https://launchpadlibrarian.net/477257299/monitoring-
plugins_2.2-3ubuntu2_2.2-3ubuntu2haw5.diff.gz

The attached patch (9 lines) seems to be all that's required, has been
tested and is what we're currently running with to resolve the socket
timeout issues we have seen.

[Bug 1876230] [NEW] liburcu: Enable MEMBARRIER_CMD_PRIVATE_EXPEDITED to address performance problems with MEMBARRIER_CMD_SHARED

2020-04-30 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

In Linux 4.3, a new syscall was defined, called "membarrier". This
systemcall was defined specifically for use in userspace-rcu (liburcu)
to speed up the fast path / reader side of the library. The original
implementation in Linux 4.3 only supported the MEMBARRIER_CMD_SHARED
subcommand of the membarrier syscall.

MEMBARRIER_CMD_SHARED executes a memory barrier on all threads from all
processes running on the system. When it exits, the userspace thread
which called it is guaranteed that all running threads share the same
world view in regards to userspace addresses which are consumed by
readers and writers.

The problem with MEMBARRIER_CMD_SHARED is system calls made in this
fashion can block, since it deploys a barrier across all threads in a
system, and some other threads can be waiting on blocking operations,
and take time to reach the barrier.

In Linux 4.14, this was addressed by adding the
MEMBARRIER_CMD_PRIVATE_EXPEDITED command to the membarrier syscall. It
only targets threads which share the same mm as the thread calling the
membarrier syscall, aka, threads in the current process, and not all
threads / processes in the system.

Calls to membarrier with the MEMBARRIER_CMD_PRIVATE_EXPEDITED command
are guaranteed non-blocking, due to using inter-processor interrupts to
implement memory barriers.

Because of this, membarrier calls that use
MEMBARRIER_CMD_PRIVATE_EXPEDITED are much faster than those that use
MEMBARRIER_CMD_SHARED.

Since Bionic uses a 4.15 kernel, all kernel requirements are met, and
this SRU is to enable support for MEMBARRIER_CMD_PRIVATE_EXPEDITED in
the liburcu package.

This brings the performance of the liburcu library back in line to where
it was in Trusty, as this particular user has performance problems upon
upgrading from Trusty to Bionic.

[Test]

Testing performance is heavily dependant on the application which links
against liburcu, and the workload which it executes.

A test package is available in the following ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf276198-test

For the sake of testing, we can use the benchmarks provided in the
liburcu source code. Download a copy of the source code for liburcu
either from the repos or from github:

$ pull-lp-source liburcu bionic
# OR
$ git clone https://github.com/urcu/userspace-rcu.git
$ git checkout v0.10.1 # version in bionic

Build the code:

$ ./bootstrap
$ ./configure
$ make

Go into the tests/benchmark directory

$ cd tests/benchmark

>From there, you can run benchmarks for the four main usages of liburcu:
urcu, urcu-bp, urcu-signal and urcu-mb.

On a 8 core machine, 6 threads for readers and 2 threads for writers,
with a 10 second runtime, execute:

$ ./test_urcu 6 2 10
$ ./test_urcu_bp 6 2 10
$ ./test_urcu_signal 6 2 10
$ ./test_urcu_mb 6 2 10

Results:

./test_urcu 6 2 10
0.10.1-1: 17612527667 reads, 268 writes, 17612527935 ops
0.10.1-1ubuntu1: 14988437247 reads, 810069 writes, 14989247316 ops

$ ./test_urcu_bp 6 2 10
0.10.1-1: 1177891079 reads, 1699523 writes, 1179590602 ops
0.10.1-1ubuntu1: 13230354737 reads, 575314 writes, 13230930051 ops

$ ./test_urcu_signal 6 2 10
0.10.1-1: 20128392417 reads, 6859 writes, 20128399276 ops
0.10.1-1ubuntu1: 20501430707 reads, 6890 writes, 20501437597 ops

$ ./test_urcu_mb 6 2 10
0.10.1-1: 627996563 reads, 5409563 writes, 633406126 ops
0.10.1-1ubuntu1: 653194752 reads, 4590020 writes, 657784772 ops

The SRU only changes behaviour for urcu and urcu-bp, since they are the
only "flavours" of liburcu which the patches change. From a pure ops
standpoint:

$ ./test_urcu 6 2 10
17612527935 ops
14989247316 ops

$ ./test_urcu_bp 6 2 10
1179590602 ops
13230930051 ops

We see that this particular benchmark workload, test_urcu sees extra
performance overhead with MEMBARRIER_CMD_PRIVATE_EXPEDITED, which is
explained by the extra impact that it has on the slowpath, and the extra
amount of writes it did during my benchmark.

The real winner in this benchmark workload is test_urcu_bp, which sees a
10x performance increase with MEMBARRIER_CMD_PRIVATE_EXPEDITED. Some of
this may be down to the 3x less writes it did during my benchmark.

Again, these benchmarks are indicative only are very "random".
Performance is really dependant on the application which links against
liburcu and its workload.

[Regression Potential]

This SRU changes the behaviour of the following libraries which
applications link against: -lurcu and -lurcu-bp. Behaviour is not
changed in the rest: -lurcu-qsbr, -lucru-signal and -lucru-mb.

On Bionic, liburcu will call the membarrier syscall in urcu and urcu-bp.
This does not change. What is changing is the semantics of that syscall,
from MEMBARRIER_CMD_SHARED to MEMBARRIER_CMD_PRIVATE_EXPEDITED. The
changed code is all run in kernel space and resides in the kernel. These
commits simply change the parameters which are supplied to the
membarrier syscall from liburcu.

I have run the testsuite that comes with the Bionic source code, and
"make

[Bug 1869672] Re: Kdump broken since 4.15.0-65 on secureboot - purgatory cannot load

2020-04-30 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Hi yamato, the kernel release schedule is available at:
kernel.ubuntu.com

You can see the next cycle as the last of the 3 "columns", so the kernel
with this patch should get released to -proposed pocket around May 25th
and to the -updates pocket around Jun 8th, subject to delays due to
security issues/CVEs, that take precedence.

Cheers,

Guilherme

[Bug 1876228] [NEW] screen goes blank for few seconds when there is new audio activity

2020-04-30 Thread Hossein Lotfi
Public bug reported:

I noticed this after installing 20.04.
At the beginning of new audio activity (playing video or generting system
sounds eg. terminal bell) screen goes blank for few seconds.I can also
reproduce it by opening settings in gnome and going to audio section.

The pulseadio in -vvv mode is attached around one of these events.
This might not be entirely a pulseadio issue, so appreciate a pointer on how to
narrow it down to the source of the issue.

[Bug 1875113] Re: OpenGL not detected (Intel Ivy Bridge + Nvidia GeForce GT 635M)

2020-04-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This might be some kind of misconfiguration of the proprietary Nvidia
driver. Please try:

 1. Uninstall the Nvidia driver and reboot.

 2. Reinstall the Nvidia driver and reboot.

If that doesn't fix the problem then maybe you don't really need the
proprietary driver so just do:

 1. Uninstall the Nvidia driver and reboot.

2020-04-30 Thread Seiichi Nakashima
Dear everyone.

I use ubuntu-20.04 everyday, and update everyday to use software-updater.
Now I feel that mouse move smooth non-problem.

I use firefox to brows 5 or 6 muli-tab,
and I select a tab to display selecting Web-page,
but sometimes do not display selecting web-page,
other firefox start up, and display selected web-page only.
it look like that a web-page-tab click and move.

problem faster in future. This is at least the 3rd time I have seen it.

[Bug 1876209] Re: Clementine fails to open application in 20.04

2020-04-30 Thread Mdavies5
I loaded the conf file into a text editor and took a copy of the contents. I
then I started Clementine and immediately the text editor notified that the
conf file had changed so I reloaded it and compared the contents with the
original file. The only change was the value for 'Main Window/hidden' had
changed from 'false' to 'true'. 'startupbehaviour' stayed at '2'. Clementine
started OK.
I repeated the whole exercise with the Cinnamon desktop with the same results.
I then deleted the conf file and restarted Mate desktop and Clementine. It
loaded ok. I set the default behaviour to 'always show main window' and then
closed and re-opened Clementine successfully.
In other words I could not repeat the bug. The 'hidden' value always gets set
to false but I don't think this refers to the visibility of the Main Window.
