[Bug 363695] Re: update-apt-xapian-index uses too much CPU and memory

2020-05-31 Thread RONIT RAJ
This bug was reported way back in 2009 . Today it's 1st June 2020 and
this bug is still here kubuntu 18.04 . This background process fires up
a few seconds after i turn on my laptop and continues to consume 100% of
both the cores and after a minute or so when it stops . Python3 would
then start consuming the CPU power , I suspect this again is something
related to APT .

All of this is really annoying , during the time when this process is
running you can't do anything .

Pending Fencing Actions:
  * reboot of clusterg01 pending: client=pacemaker-controld.906,

and watchdog on host clusterg01 rebooted it. After reboot, only a single path
has
came set the reservation, not all of them:

0x59450002

I had to stop "fence-mpath-clusterg01" fence agent and restore all
reservations manually with:

(k)rafaeldtinoco@clusterg01:~$ sudo fence_mpath -v -d
/dev/mapper/volume01 -n 5945 -o on

and start resource "fence-mpath-clusterg01" again. This is the problem
with multipathed devices about having automatic recovery... sometimes it
is better to have manual intervention only and stick with the faulty
node until you manually reboot it and fix reservations.

** Description changed:

- Whenever trying to configure fence_scsi using Ubuntu Bionic the
- following error happens:
+ This bug's intent is to check if fence_scsi and fence_mpath agents are
+ working in all supported Ubuntu versions. This is needed because both
+ agents are very prone to errors and, depending the way they are
+ configured, a vast set of errors can occur.

[Bug 1864404] Re: fence_scsi and fence_mpath configuration issues (e.g. /var/run/cluster/fence_scsi.key)

2020-05-31 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
For the previous case (fence_mpath in Groovy), when rebooting the fenced
node automatically (by watchdog monitoring /dev/watchdog from softdog
module) perhaps pacemaker systemd unit should start only AFTER iscsid,
open-iscsi AND multipath-tools were already started. This would give
time to all paths to be online. PROBLEM: paths being added might take
more time than the service to tell systemd it is ON. Note: Don't fully
trust automated reboots for unfencing a node with mpath, do it manually.

[Bug 1881523] [NEW] the installer will prompt for confirmation before touching the disk for ubuntu 20.04 autoinstall

2020-05-31 Thread vmware-gos-Yuhua
Public bug reported:

the subiquity of ubuntu 20.04 support new autoinstall mechanism.
It works when I mount seed.iso with cloud-init config file according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FoundationsTeam/AutomatedServerInstalls/QuickStart

Only one little question:
the installer will prompt for confirmation before touching the disk. It will
interrupt the process of autoinstall

As document said: "Unless you interrupt boot to add 'autoinstall' to the kernel
command line, the installer will prompt for confirmation before touching the
disk."

So it's expected behavior, but for me, the autoinstall must be much
better if I don't need to input the confirmation and also I don't need
to modify official iso ubuntu-20.04-live-server-amd64.iso

Thanks
Yuhua Zou

[Bug 1867916] Re: Regression in kernel 4.15.0-91 causes kernel panic with Bcache

2020-05-31 Thread Ryan Finnie
Works on focal!

Linux nibbler 5.4.0-34-generic #38+lp1867916b1 SMP Sun May 31 21:41:06
-03 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Thanks! I'm curious to see the patch; I tried root causing it myself
and suspected it had to do with something like an overflow in an
unanticipated block size, but never got anywhere on that.

Also keep in mind I filed an upstream bug
(https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=207811), so please make
sure to reference that when submitting the fix upstream.

Again, thank you Mauricio!

OS is Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Current kernal 5.3.0.53.

This system has been in operation normally for about 6 months.
However, around 5/20/20, this problem started.
On shutdown, shutdown screens/activity seem normal, then the video is cut and
system appears to have shutdown, however the PC power/power LED remain on.
I have to hold the power button to turn completely off.

In order to further isolate this issue, I ran fsck (no errors). Shutdown from
Live CD session is normal.
When I boot into kernal 5.3.0.51, shutdown is normal.

So this appears to be an issue related to kernal 5.3.0.53.
Repeated switching kernal back and forth confirms problem only existing on
5.3.0.53.

[Bug 1881060] Re: Screen lock tiggers segfault

2020-05-31 Thread Marlen T. B.
I have to crash logs:
- _opt_zoom_zoom.1000.crash (probably not important)
The value from _opt_zoom_zoom.1000.uploaded (which I'm assuming is the id you
are talking about) is `853ce704-a3a4-11ea-aaae-fa163ee63de6`

- _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash (likely important)
id: a8813cc4-a3a4-11ea-a560-fa163e6cac46

I have some woopsie crashes:
- https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/3c67965c-9df3-11ea-9b90-fa163e102db1
- https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/3b2d2274-87e7-11ea-a31b-fa163e6cac46

I disabled all my extensions and this the problem appeared fixed.
I then re-enabled them ... and it is still fixed.

After restart it looks like the bug is back ... after more testing it appears
to be in the
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/21/workspace-indicator/

See appropriately filed bug at: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell-extensions/-/issues/241

2020-05-31 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Abosulety! However, it'll require an actual test case. I've been unable
to come up with a build that's broken by this, but since you noticed it
presumably you have?

If you've got an example of what's broken by this, could you please
attach it and we can turn it into the SRU test case.

[Bug 1766068] Re: Using Zsh, it doesn't show an error message when command not found

2020-05-31 Thread Joel Cross
Unfortunately not. @juliank seems to have gone incommunicado on this issue.
Since I have a patch that fixes this issue, would it be helpful to people if I
make a PPA containing the patched command-not-found? Then at least there will
be a solution for people until someone from Ubuntu eventually picks this up
(which realistically isn't looking likely any time soon).

[Bug 1747646] Re: Authentication error with google drive

2020-05-31 Thread Besmir Zanaj
Using the default (apt) deja-dup with the online accoutns in ubuntu 18.04.
I found out a workaround for this. If you keep the session open manually by
reading a file over and over you can reset the timer described here:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/issues/360

Basically after keeping a session open on only a specific folder, there
is a limit of 100 access things (reads, writes, etc.) and then the
connection stales.

While the backup is running in the background, you have to manually
browse the root of the google drive in nautilus every 5-10 minutes (file
explorer) and reset that counter. You might get some errors like
authentication failed but keep refreshing the root folder till you're
able to browse files again. It finally completed my backup. This looks
so easy to fix in the code tough and not sure why no one picked this up

[Bug 1881214] Re: syslog and kern.log grow endlessly - related to Intel wifi?

2020-05-31 Thread nyarla33
Unlike what I thought or hoped, using an upstream kernel (5.4.43-050443-generic
x86_64) is not a workaround.
I just had the same issue again.

** Description changed:

Ubuntu Mate 20.04, with all supplied kernels up to 5.4.0.33

I occasionally see a message on my screen that disk space is low. I try
rebooting since my computer is unresponsive. Normal reboot does not
work, sudo reboot does not work. I have to power off the machine using
power button. Machine boots but hangs because its trying to repair
  journal info.

I can't see what causes that since I was not using my computer at the
  time.

So with a live session, I can see that syslog and kern.log files have
grown to several GB until the drive is full.

When using an upstream kernel 5.4.43-050443-generic x86_64, I haven't had any
problem so far.
- Never had this issue with previous Ubuntu versions with the very same
hardware configuration, since 16.04.
+ edit: not true actually, this happened again using this upstream kernel.
+
+ Never had this issue with previous Ubuntu versions with the very same
+ hardware configuration, since 16.04.

Included: partial syslog and kern.log with the same message repeated
  over and over.

[Bug 1875015] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 and Displaylink is extremely slow

2020-05-31 Thread Leonardo Carvalho
Improving Mike's above feedback, I've realized that connecting the external
monitor directly to the laptop HDMI port really make things run normally, but
when I turned off the OS extend desktop to external monitor function(HDMI), I
can keep the Docktation connected with 2 monitors on it without problems...
My environment has 3 monitors,

2 on Dock station and 1 on laptop's HDMI port...

For now, I can work without any problems

Mike, thanks for the tip!!

It's possible you have a bad write to your media. If you're still having
problems please try the option to check the integrity of the image from
the installer boot menu, and if this confirms that the media is corrupt,
try re-writing it.

[Bug 1449495] Re: Meld hangs (waiting for DBus?)

2020-05-31 Thread Thomas Kluyver
I saw something similar, where meld & nautilus were both very slow to
start (but then worked normally once they had started). I traced some
D-Bus messages with Bustle, and found that there was a request for
org.gtk.vfs.Daemon.GetConnection which never got an answer. I guess it
waits for a preset timeout and then continues anyway.

The org.gtk.vfs.mountpoint_4098 bus name belonged to a gvfsd-trash
process, according to D-Feet. That was managed by a systemd unit called
'gvfs-daemon'. After restarting that, the applications would start
quickly again:

systemctl --user restart gvfs-daemon.service

On the negative side: the sound has strange artifacts on speakers. And
headphones are not working properly once inserted.

If you want to experiment yourself - please use previous traces and the
following Python scripts:
- annotate trace with verb names for known verbs:

[Bug 1850439] Re: No sound on ASUS UX534FT

2020-05-31 Thread Sergey Kostyuk
This crazy script contains all SET and unknown commands sent from the
Windows to the audio, with some commands stripped (using a try-and-check
method). And this crazy script allows to enable the speakers somehow!!!

Now here is the question: Can somebody filter excess commands and find
the bare minimum needed to enable speakers?

[Bug 1848496] Re: [zfs-root] "device-mapper: reload ioctl on osprober-linux-sdaX failed: Device or resource busy" against devices owned by ZFS

2020-05-31 Thread Gijs Vermariën
@fermulator at the moment this is bug breaks dualboot anyway, since it
will not probe my Windows os before failing and stopping. So I have to
resort to using f12 to select the disk. I suppose it will be worse for
people with dual boot on one drive, but they will not be able to install
ZoL as easily via the installer.

[Bug 1881494] Re: suspend to ram (standby) crashes amdgpu (Ryzen-7 Vega - HP Envy x360)

2020-05-31 Thread kolAflash
** Description changed:

  suspend to ram crashes amdgpu.
System is still accessible via SSH after resume from standby.
Happens when X is running (gdm/gnome with 3d acceleration) and also when X is
stopped.

+ Also the computer never really goes into standby. The cpu fan is running
+ all the time and the power button is fully lighted up. Nevertheless, I
+ need to press CTRL to "wake" it, so I can access it via SSH.
+
I'll attach the dmesg output of several attempts.
  This is the hardware:

https://store.hp.com/GermanyStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=9YN58EA=ABD=NTB
+ Tested EFI and BIOS bootmode.

Please let me know if I can help tracking this down.
I'm a software developer (sadly not a kernel developer), so you can ask dirty
technical questions ;-)

  Workaround:
- Enable hibernation (suspend to disk) and use instead of suspend to ram.
+ Enable hibernation (suspend to disk) and use instead of suspend to ram
(standby).

- What didn't helped:
- Kernel parameters (some actually prevented the system from booting):
no_console_suspend nomodeset amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1 init_on_free=0 idle=nowait
amd_iommu=flush
+ What didn't help:
+ Kernel parameters: no_console_suspend nomodeset amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1
init_on_free=0 idle=nowait amd_iommu=flush
  echo mem > /sys/power/state
  systemctl start suspend.target
  echo 0 > /sys/power/pm_async
+ Upgrading kernel from 5.4 to: 5.6.0-1010-oem
+
+ Using the kernel parameters
+ no_console_suspend nomodeset amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1 init_on_free=0
+ idle=nowait amd_iommu=flush
+ and doing
+ echo mem > /sys/power/state
+ before suspend made the system acutally not crash.
+ Nevertheless, the cpu fan and the power button stay full on/lighted. So the
system doesn't really go to standby either.
+
+ I'll try to find the minimal combination of kernel parameters.
+ nomodeset seems to be essential, but not sufficient.
+ Without nomodeset the system wakes again for a few seconds, but freezes a
moment later (ssh still accessible).

[Bug 1881498] [NEW] Three monitor setup breaks if one+ screen rotated into portrait mode since Ubuntu 20.04

2020-05-31 Thread Carl Tiedtke
Public bug reported:

Since I upgraded from Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04 my multi monitor setup is
broken. I put the screens into the shape of an H. The center screen is
in landscape and to each side one screen in portrait/pivot orientation.
I expected to rotate the virtual screens of the outer monitors into
portrait mode as it was possible before.

Instead the smallest (middle) screen gets scaled extremely in, the
virtual screens overlap and just everything about the monitor setup
breaks.

The resolutions are from left to right 1440p, 1080p, 2160p.
I could configure the outer screens to portrait mode over Nvidia X Server, but
it doesn't survive a reboot. Also it breaks if I touch the screens over the
gnome-control-center.

2020-05-31 Thread Alexis Wilke
For those interested in 18.04, the file to replace is:

/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/meld/filediff.py

and you can replace it with the version:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/meld/-/blob/3.18.2/meld/filediff.py

Then saving when closing the tab works as expected.

[Bug 1879582] Re: [Redmi AirDots Bluetooth] I need to remove device in settings every time i want to connect again

2020-05-31 Thread FelipeAF
I tested a third headphone, Philips SHB3075, in my acer laptop, and
autoconnection works, but manual reconnections not. For manual
connections is the same than for redmi, i had to try connect a lot of
times than it works.

2020-05-31 Thread FelipeAF
autoconnection works.
Besides the auto-connection bug is just with redmi+ubuntu, manual connections
(and disconnections) are also useful if you use the same headphone in more than
one device.

[Bug 1878726] Re: Live USB Installer not working Samsung Notebook 9 Pro 15"

2020-05-31 Thread Obert Wood
I have same laptop with same problem on 20.04. Works great on 19.10.
Every once in awhile I can get it to systemd.unit=emergency.target. But
it hangs soon after if even doing an "lsmod".

[Bug 1881494] [NEW] suspend to ram (standby) crashes amdgpu (Ryzen-7 Vega - HP Envy x360)

2020-05-31 Thread kolAflash
Public bug reported:

suspend to ram crashes amdgpu.
System is still accessible via SSH after resume from standby.
Happens when X is running (gdm/gnome with 3d acceleration) and also when X is
stopped.

I'll attach the dmesg output of several attempts.
This is the hardware:
https://store.hp.com/GermanyStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=9YN58EA=ABD=NTB

Please let me know if I can help tracking this down.
I'm a software developer (sadly not a kernel developer), so you can ask dirty
technical questions ;-)

Workaround:
Enable hibernation (suspend to disk) and use instead of suspend to ram.

What didn't helped:
Kernel parameters (some actually prevented the system from booting):
no_console_suspend nomodeset amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1 init_on_free=0 idle=nowait
amd_iommu=flush
echo mem > /sys/power/state
systemctl start suspend.target
echo 0 > /sys/power/pm_async
