[Bug 1884472] Re: a2jmidid checkbox do not work correctly

2020-06-21 Thread Len Ovens
The default setting for jackdbus for midi is none, not raw. However
running any other jackdbus startup utility in the past will create
~/.config/jack/conf.xml. An upgrade from to 19.10 to 20.04 will not
reset that file as it is not an installed file.

That said, because controls sets all controls it needs to every time it
starts and starting jackdbus rewrites that file, future versions of
studio-controls will remove that file before starting to avoid mis-
settings made by other utilities.

[Bug 1884476] Re: /dev/kvm wrong group (plugdev) after upgrade to 20.04

2020-06-21 Thread Emile Heitor
** Description changed:

After an upgrade from 19.10 to 20.04, virsh fails launching virtual
  machines with the following message:

error: Failed to start domain testvm
error: internal error: process exited while connecting to monitor: Could not
access KVM kernel module: Permission denied
2020-06-22T04:09:33.931139Z qemu-system-x86_64: failed to initialize KVM:
Permission denied

Investigating further shown that /dev/kvm, which should be owned by
root:kvm, is now owned by root:plugdev:

  crw-rw+ 1 root plugdev 10, 232 Jun 22 06:09 /dev/kvm

Changing its group to kvm fixes the issue temporarily but the group owner
comes back to plugdev after a reboot.
/lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules seem to have the right rule:

  KERNEL=="kvm", GROUP="kvm", MODE="0660", OPTIONS+="static_node=kvm"

[Bug 1884472] Re: a2jmidid checkbox do not work correctly

2020-06-21 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
I have no issues connecting my MIDI hardware to any software and
therefore cannot reproduce.

Please note that development of this application is not done
specifically for Ubuntu anymore and has become an upstream project as
Studio Controls (https://github.com/ovenwerks/studio-controls). Because
we cannot backport studio-controls into the Ubuntu repositories for
Ubuntu 20.04, this is likely a bug, if it even is a bug (bugs are
reproducible on all hardware), that is not going to get fixed until
there is a new release of Studio Controls which would be backported into
the Ubuntu Studio Backports PPA.

In your case, it is likely you ran qjackctl at some point (NOT
recommended) before running (Ubuntu) Studio Conrols.

[Bug 1884476] [NEW] /dev/kvm wrong group (plugdev) after upgrade to 20.04

2020-06-21 Thread Emile Heitor
Public bug reported:

Changing its group to kvm fixes the issue temporarily but the group owner comes
back to plugdev after a reboot.
/lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules seem to have the right rule:

KERNEL=="kvm", GROUP="kvm", MODE="0660", OPTIONS+="static_node=kvm"

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2020-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Philipp,

This bug is about only app windows not responding to clicks, not the
shell itself. If you experience problems with parts of the shell not
responding to clicks then please open a new bug by running:

  ubuntu-bug gnome-shell

I suspect a lot of clicking issues should have been resolved by mutter
3.34, but you will need Ubuntu 20.04 to test that. Please do upgrade to
20.04 if you can.

[Bug 1884351] Re: Firmware bug - ACPI

2020-06-21 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Hi, we need to have more information when the problem occurs. That is,
could you specify more about "can't boot without acpi=off"? At what
stage does it hang? What's the contents of the screen at the moment?
What would happen if yiu boot with "initcall_debug earlycon=efifb" (and
don't add acpi=off)?

[Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape

2020-06-21 Thread Anton Matosov
Hello folks. I experience this issue with my three monitor setup (two of which
are vertical) using NVIDIA Drivers 440.82 on PopOS 20.04.
Monitor layout works with xrandr/arandr and if I hand craft manitors.xml,
configuration is preserved. I have posted my details here
https://github.com/pop-os/pop/issues/933#issuecomment-643681670

But GUI doesn't work.
Also after recovering from suspend layout explodes again.

I would be glad to help with investigation, collecting logs, traces, etc
(feel free to DM me).

This is the intended behaviour and won't be fixed. The desktop icons are
designed to occupy the maximum space that is usually available.

[Bug 1884472] [NEW] a2jmidid checkbox do not work correctly

2020-06-21 Thread Anagram3K
Public bug reported:

Because the default setting for the jack midi driver is "raw", the
a2jmidid can't connect to the jack midi hardware ports.

After changing the midi driver in ~/.config/jack/conf.xml to seq or none and
restarting jack the ports are exported correctly

After clicking the a2jmidid checkbox, the program should check if the jack midi
is raw and change it to seq or none.

[Bug 1878275] Re: [qxl] wayland session hard freezes on login from GDM (X11 session works fine)

2020-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the videos.

One thing you didn't seem to try, and I think is the most likely to
work, would be:

  Ctrl+Alt+F3, Ctrl+Alt+F2

because VT2 is where you want to go in the end but it might be ignored
until you switch to VT3 or higher first.

Secondly, I can now see the ssh problem you mentioned...

  Enter passphrase for /home/john/.ssh/id_rsa:
   * ssh-add: Identities added: /home/john/.ssh/id_rsa

Yes that sounds like a general account problem which would explain why
you experience trouble with both physical and virtual machines. So I
suspect the real problem is coming from:

"I have keychain installed for password-less SSH"

Please remove "keychain" and your bash_profile modifications.

[Bug 1884470] [NEW] Nested virt fails with 'failed to set MSR' causing QEMU to abort

2020-06-21 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

When using an instance on Azure Cloud, nested kvm virtualisation fails
with the following error message:

qemu-system-x86_64: error: failed to set MSR 0x48b to 0x11582e
qemu-system-x86_64: /build/qemu-FC5BvZ/qemu-4.2/target/i386/kvm.c:2680:
kvm_buf_set_msrs: Assertion `ret == cpu->kvm_msr_buf->nmsrs' failed.

It appears that some systems can expose particular features via CPUID,
but can lack the corresponding VMX control for that feature. When this
happens, such as with MSR 0x48b on Azure Cloud, attempts to enable the
feature fail and QEMU aborts.

[Testcase]

Create an instance on Azure with the latest Focal image, install QEMU,
and prepare to launch a VM:

$ sudo -s
# apt install qemu-kvm bridge-utils
# BR_NAME="br0"
# BR_ADDR="192.168.1.10"
# ip link add "$BR_NAME" type bridge
# ip addr add "$BR_ADDR"/24 dev "$BR_NAME"
# ip link set "$BR_NAME" up
# tap_name="tap1"
# br_name=$BR_NAME
# ip tuntap add $tap_name mode tap user $(whoami) multi_queue
# ip link set $tap_name up
# ip link set $tap_name master $br_name

Download a guest VM:

# wget https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/focal/current/focal-server-
cloudimg-amd64-disk-kvm.img

Launch the VM:
# /usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -cpu host -smp 2 -m 2048 -hda
focal-server-cloudimg-amd64-disk-kvm.img -device
virtio-net-pci,netdev=net0,mac=52:54:00:f5:be:83 -netdev
user,id=net0,hostfwd=tcp::60022-:22 -device
virtio-net-pci,netdev=net1,mac=52:54:00:c6:29:dc,mq=on,vectors=10 -netdev
tap,id=net1,ifname=tap1,script=no,vhost=on,queues=4 -display none -enable-kvm
-daemonize

With an unpatched QEMU, VM creation will fail with:
qemu-system-x86_64: error: failed to set MSR 0x48b to 0x11582e
qemu-system-x86_64: /build/qemu-FC5BvZ/qemu-4.2/target/i386/kvm.c:2680:
kvm_buf_set_msrs: Assertion `ret == cpu->kvm_msr_buf->nmsrs' failed.

A test package for focal is available in the following ppa:

https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf284806-test

The patched QEMU from the above ppa fixes the problem, and the VM
launches successfully.

[Regression Potential]

The code adds a check to see if MSR_IA32_VMX_PROCBASED_CTLS2 is present,
and if it is, then we skip over checking of particular CPUIDs and
subsequent enabling of VMX's, since the CPUID might exist and the VMX
won't.

If a regression were to occur, some systems might be missing VMX's being
enabled if these checks were incorrectly skipped, leading to particular
features missing for a VM. In the worse case scenario, the VM may not
start due to missing or incorrectly set MSRs.

The code is simple and targeted, and I believe the chance for regression
is very low.

[Other Info]

The commit that fixes the problem is:

Link:
https://github.com/qemu/qemu/commit/4a910e1f6ab4155ec8b24c49b2585cc486916985

This fixes 048c951 ("target/i386: work around KVM_GET_MSRS bug for
secondary execution controls"), which was introduced in QEMU 4.2,
meaning only Focal and Groovy require fixing.

[Bug 1884001] Re: [Ice Lake] External 4k monitor periodically shows black screen

This is pretty similar to audio issue we've encountered before.
Could you open sound setting and play test sound to see if this issue happens
while playing sounds?

BTW, could you also check if it lists the same audio output devices when
the dock cable is plugged at left side and right side.

Ok.

While figuring out some solutions on my issue, I found a better solution - to
use audacity as snap..!
It worked just fine without any issue, and it's launch time is also less (only
about 4 sec. except initial launch).

Even though I will ask about this issue on forum.

Thank you for your support..!

[Bug 1882462] Re: Displays wake up pre-maturely (likely driven by notification)

2020-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If you report it upstream:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues

then they will be able to provide more suggestions to better understand
what power management is doing.

[Bug 1884405] Re: package mutter 3.34.3-1ubuntu1~19.10.1 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration

2020-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Ubuntu 19.10 reaches end-of-life in a few weeks:

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

So it's probably realistic to say this won't be fixed. Please install
Ubuntu 20.04 instead.

[Bug 394398] Re: Logic to determine expected number of running session wrong (regression in hardy's open-iscsi 2.0.865-1ubuntu3.1)

2020-06-21 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. In an effort to keep an
up-to-date and valid list of bugs to work on, I have reviewed this report
to verify it still requires effort and occurs on an Ubuntu release in
standard support, and it does not:

We have a new documentation in place that might help anyone facing this issue:
https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/service-iscsi

The node.conn[0] is a leftover from the time open-iscsi supported multiple
connections per session, and it does not nowadays but kept compatibility.
Automatic and manual seems fine in latest versions.

It is unfortunate that we were unable to resolve this defect, however
there appears to be no further action possible at this time. I am
therefore moving the bug to 'Fix Released'. If you disagree or have
new information, we would be grateful if you could please add a comment
stating why and then change the status of the bug to 'New'.

reason for it in the attached logs.

Also please don't try upgrading any intel drivers. You can't do that and
still get support from Ubuntu.

[Bug 380663] Re: open-iscsi initiator tries to resolve ipv6 address of target and fails

2020-06-21 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'.

However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would
be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem
with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu
rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug
status back to "New".

For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here:

[Bug 1884392] Re: Clock does not remain in center when auto-hide the dock setting is disabled from gnome settings

2020-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That's an Ubuntu feature designed to match the position of text in the
titlebar of maximized windows. It's not a bug but I understand some
people don't like it (occasionally including me). It doesn't happen if
you use the GNOME dock instead (if you disable Ubuntu Dock in the

When it doesn't work, please run amixer contents to check Input
Source/Capture Source value, if its value is "Headset Mic"? If it is, it
means the pulseaudio's behaviour is correct, maybe the kernel driver has
some problem on your machine.
