[Bug 1890236] Re: kde partition manager is waiting it appears for /dev/fd0 (no floppy drive)

2020-08-03 Thread Chris Guiver
On d745 or box this issue occurred on, i used `killall` to kill
partitionmanager. It closed, then I ran (hoping to get more detail, or
repeat the issue)

lubuntu@lubuntu:~$ partitionmanager
Could not load plugin for core backend "" : "The shared library was not
found."
Loaded backend plugin: "pmsfdiskbackendplugin"
Icon theme "elementary" not found.

but unexpected no kde partition manager opened (a flash did occur, brief
and about correct size for partitionmanager windwo, but it was just a
quick flash). Attempting to re-start it again from terminal had the
same result.

I didn't see anything helpful added to `dmesg`, however `ournalctl` had
the following which maybe related

What was missing on prior reporting of this issue I believe (dmesg)

Of note - last time when I rebooted (in hopes of getting `dmesg`) it didn't

This is also a different box; last box was d755-5 I believe (different but
similar model dell)

[Bug 1171844] Re: Ubiquity: Tajik Language Support

2020-08-03 Thread Victor Ibragimov
Hi,

The last time I tested Ubuntu daily build for this bug I got a black
blank screen and I am not sure if that was one of the daily build ISO
image or my laptop behavior.

Please, advise if the current daily build of Ubuntu 20.10 (Groovy
Gorilla) is OK to test, so I download the image again and perform the
full test for Tajik Language and send a detailed report:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

---
By the way, for the current Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) there are encoding
issues for Tajik Language and some text still have untranslated texts, but
looks like i have translated them all 100%.
This is just to make sure that Ubuntu 20.10 (Groovy Gorilla) have those all
those translated strings applied. Well, new test will show it.

This sounds like bug 1754284 so I will mark it as a duplicate until
proven otherwise. The workaround for that would be to select 'Ubuntu on
Wayland' on the login screen.

If you disagree with this then please run the following command to
collect more information:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 1888685] Re: rsync fails after installing level 3.2.1

2020-08-03 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Seb, as far as I understood Cliff it only started to occur with version
3.2.1 in Groovy.
And after we found the root cause that is now confirmed, 3.2.1 has:
ProtectSystem=full
ProtectHome=on
PrivateDevices=on
NoNewPrivileges=on
But the version in Focal doesn't have that and thereby is fine without a fix.

[Bug 1888916] Re: upgrade from bionic to focal a server with molly-guard moves back sources.list to bionic entries

2020-08-03 Thread Brian Murray
I tried this both with an Ubuntu desktop install of 18.04 LTS and an lxc
cloud image of 18.04 LTS and during neither upgrade process did I
encounter the error described in this bug report. Here's some relevant
information from the lxc upgrade.

ubuntu@gorgeous-molly:~$ tail /var/log/dist-upgrade/screenlog.0

To finish the upgrade, a restart is required.
If you select 'y' the system will be restarted.

[Bug 1890232] [NEW] PCMANFM crashes on opening a directory with a largenumber of images

2020-08-03 Thread Volodya
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
create a directory with 10k+ images
open that directory by double clicking the icon
sometimes this will crash pcmanfm

Note:
if you open a directory in a new tab, that does not freeze pcmanfm and it will
crash much less frequiently

Note:
if new image files are being created in that directory as you are opening it,
that will increase the chance of a crash

Note:
if imediately after crash you will try to open the same directory again, it
will almost never crash

The code is crashing on this assertion:

This was already reported and marked as fixed in debian (?) via [0]

""Now if a wakeup event occurres the socket would be dispatched for
processing regardless which kind of event (timer?) triggered the wakeup.
At least I did not find any sanity checks in process_fds() except
SOCK_DEAD(sock).

This leads to the following situation: The sock is not dead yet but it
is still pending when it is dispatched again.

I would now check sock->pending_send before calling dispatch_send().This
would at least prevent the assertion failure - well knowing that the
situation described above ( not dead but still pending and alerting ) is
not a very pleasant one - until someone comes up with a better solution.
"""

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=430065#20

** Follow up questions:

0) The reproducer doesn't seems consistent and seems to be related to a race
condition associated with a internal timer/futex.
1) Can anyone confirm that a pristine upstream 4.4.1 doesn't reproduces the
issue?

[Bug 1890124] Re: I can't click on the bottom ~25 % of the screen

2020-08-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please try selecting 'Ubuntu on Wayland' from the login screen. Does
that work around the problem?

Regardless, please report the issue upstream at:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues

and then tell us the new issue ID.

Thanks. Your journal.txt seems to confirm this is a duplicate of bug
1849142. To avoid the problem just do what I suggested above:

Open the 'Extensions' app and disable 'Ubuntu AppIndicators'.

Ah my test in comment #4 was not via an ssh session, so that explains
why I didn't receive a message from molly-guard but it its not clear why
the system didn't reboot.

[Bug 1884850] Re: Xorg server uses unacceptably large amounts of memory (and keep growing)

2020-08-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Reopened because there's probably still a bug somewhere. Although this
bug is now assigned to xorg-server I don't actually think Xorg is to
blame. Xorg just owns the memory that applications have requested
resources within.

The Bug Description shows Xorg's RSS creeping over 700MB which does
sound like a bug. However xrestop does not seem to explain it, as that
only shows 110MB of usage.

The next step here is for you to figure out exactly which app is causing
the leakage. To test each app, please log out and in again, then leave
just one app running overnight and nothing else.

** Follow up questions:

0) The reproducer doesn't seems consistent and seems to be related to a race
condition associated with a internal timer/futex.
1) Can anyone confirm that a pristine upstream 4.4.1 doesn't reproduces the
issue?

[Bug 1890220] Re: ASoC:amd:renoir: the dmic can't record sound after suspend and resume

2020-08-03 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- This bug is for tracking purpose.
+ [Impact]
+ We have backported the amd renoir audio driver to oem-5.6 and focal
+ kernel, recently we found if the dmic is working and we suspend and
+ resume, the dmic can't record the sound after resume.
+
+ [Fix]
+ After resuming, the driver needs to restore 2 more registers, then the
+ dmic could record the sound.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Boot the kernel with this patch, open the sound-setting and run suspend
+ and resume, then use arecord to record the sound, verify the sound is
+ successfully recorded by aplaying it.
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ Low, this patch is verified on the amd renoir machine, and this patch
+ got ack from AMD engineer.

[Bug 1890200] Re: ubuntu desktop changed to kali

2020-08-03 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The package tools upgrade to the latest package available in your
sources, so if you provide non-Ubuntu sources that have packages of
higher versions, they'll replace your Ubuntu packages and result if your
system no longer being a Ubuntu one. This is expected behavior, and not
a bug.

I see many Kali packages being installed on your system, which a Ubuntu
system cannot do unless a user with `sudo` permissions added Kali
repositories to the system sources.

I do not believe this is a bug, but the Debian package tools working as
intended, and you have a support problem because of polluted sources
introduced on to your system. As such I've changed the status of this
bug to Incomplete. If you believe I'm in error, or have new information
as to why it's a bug, please leave a comment explaining why, and change
the status back to "New".

For Ubuntu Support sites, try https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You
can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local
Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-

[Bug 1890222] [NEW] Enlarge hisi_sec2 capability

2020-08-03 Thread Ike Panhc
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Current hisi_sec2 driver only allows 2 threads for accelerator but cpu stress
test requires more then 50 threads. We have disabled hisi_sec2 temporarily for
20.04.1. Hisilicon proposes a simple patch on upstream mailing list to enlarge
the capability.

[Fix]
https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-crypto@vger.kernel.org/msg43093.html

[Test]
$ lsmod | grep hisi_sec2 # make sure hisi_sec2 loaded
$ sudo stress-ng --aggressive --verify --timeout 330 --metrics-brief --tz
--times --af-alg 0
$ echo $?

[Regression Potential]
This driver is only loaded on Hisilicon Hi1620 machines. Low risk for other
platform.

[Bug 1879083] Re: default sssd.conf after ipa-client-install crashes sssd

2020-08-03 Thread Nick DeMarco
Installing FreeIPA's client tool (ipa-client-install) on 20.04 gives the
same result as the reporter submitted.

Commenting out the SSSD line in /etc/sssd/sssd.conf resolves the issue -
which slows startup.

2020-08-03 Thread Brian Murray
Dimitri uploaded a new version of gfxboot-theme-ubuntu on 2020-05-28 and
it is not clear to me from the comments if that version of the package
was tested. Was it? If not could you please test the latest Groovy iso?
Thanks again for all of your help testing.

[Bug 1472639] Re: apparmor profile denied for kerberos: /run/.heim_org.h5l.kcm-socket

2020-08-03 Thread Kartik Subbarao
While working on something else recently, I got a hunch for what might
have been happening here. I had configured syncrepl on this server to
use GSSAPI (saslmech=GSSAPI) to authenticate to its provider server. In
this role, slapd ignores the keytab file and behaves like an ordinary
GSSAPI client. It just calls whatever GSSAPI functions provided by the
available library. I'm guessing that library consulted
/run/.heim_org.h5l.kcm-socket as one of the places to check for cached
credentials.

I tested this by downloading the new release upgrader tarball from
