[Bug 1890319] Re: Please remove tinyjsd from the archive

2020-08-04 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Yes, this would need to be removal + sync blacklist for groovy, to be on
the safe side (although it's unlikely that Debian would ever upload a
new version).

I think it's OK for the package to be broken in focal. No one has ever
complained thus far, so my guess is that no-one uses it.

[Bug 1889735] Re: tap: use after free

2020-08-04 Thread Juerg Haefliger
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  If the socket buffer array of a tap queue is full, a received package
  needs to be dropped. Currently, the check for the array being full is
  performed lockless, which might lead to use-after-free errors if the
  socket buffer array has been resized.

  [Test Case]

  TBD.

  [Regression Potential]

  The check for the array being full is simply dropped. In case the array
  is full, subsequent frame handling will fail and the frame is eventually
  dropped. A regression would manifest itself if the frame is not dropped
- for whatever reason and inserted into the (ring) buffer, overwriting the
- oldest frame in the buffer.
+ for whatever reason and inserted into the full (ring) buffer,
+ overwriting the oldest frame in the buffer. So we'd end up with
+ frame/packet loss.

[Bug 1890055] Re: Brightness control does not work with 5.4.0-42.26

2020-08-04 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hello,
3 questions here:
 1. Can you adjust the screen brightness with the hotkeys?
 2. Can you adjust the screen brightness with the slide bar in Settings ->
Power?
 3. If not, does it work for you with these 2 methods above on older kernels
(and which version)?

Thanks

[Bug 1890231] Re: alsa: should not load sof driver if the internal mic connects to the codec

2020-08-04 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- This is for tracking purpose.
+ This issue was introduced by #1872916 ("Support Intel Soundwire
+ in 5.6-OEM Kernel 20.04"), so focal and groovy kernels don't need
+ this fix.
+
+ [Impact]
+ We found the sof driver instead of hda driver is enabled on a dell
+ machine without soundwire and dmic. This will make gnome show dummy
+ output and users have no audio device to use.
+
+ [Fix]
+ When we integrated fix for #1872916, we backported 2 patches, these
+ 2 patches enable the sof driver unconditionally for Dell comet lake
+ machines. There is an upstream patch to fix it, let the sof driver
+ enable conditionally on comet lake machines.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Boot the kernel with this patch on that dell machine, check the
+ gnome-control-center, all audio devices exist, playback and recording
+ work well.
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ On the Dell comet lake machines with dmic, the sof driver should
+ enable. Without this patch, the sof driver will enable unconditionally,
+ but with this patch, the sof driver will enable conditionally, so it
+ is possible to introduce a regression that on Dell comet machines,
+ the sof driver doesn't enable even the machine has dmic.
+
+ I have tested this patch on a Dell comet lake dmic machines, it worked
+ well.

[Bug 1890365] [NEW] Web Serial fails to access local device

2020-08-04 Thread edward sternin
Public bug reported:

A javascript-based web page works fine when accessed through Chrome,
fails to recognize that any devices exist when accessed from Chromium on
the same Unubtu 20.04 platform.

The code includes the following snippet:

const requestOptions = {
filters: [{ usbVendorId: 0x1881 }]
  };
  port = await navigator.serial.requestPort(requestOptions);
  await port.open({ baudrate: 9600 });
  writer = port.writable.getWriter();
  reader = port.readable.getReader();

Under Chrome 84.0.4147.105 (Official Build) (64-bit), ttyACM0 device is
listed in the pop-up, is selectable, and can communicate. Under
Chromium 84.0.4147.105 (Official Build) snap (64-bit), the pop-up
contains only "No compatible devices found" message.

Experimental Web Features flag is enabled in both browsers.

This still seems to be a problem. Tried installing clonezilla using
Synaptic and got partially installed / failure errors on 20.04. Will
post new bug so it attaches my system info.

[Bug 1885346] Re: gnome-shell-calendar-server leaks GBs of memory every few days

2020-08-04 Thread Heewa Barfchin
As requested in, I installed and ran gnome-shell
3.36.4-1ubuntu1~20.04.1, from focal proposed. I followed the steps that
I previously was able to reproduce this issue with, and didn't see a
similar memory-growth behavior (when looking at top). I hope this helps.

[Bug 1890319] Re: Please remove tinyjsd from the archive

2020-08-04 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
To be clear, this wants to be a removal + sync blacklist for groovy?

We can't actually remove it from Focal, though. The best you can do is
to SRU in an empty package (see:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Package_Removals ), but as
you can see from there it's not something we often do. Is it OK for it
to just be broken (on current Thunderbird/Firefox) in Focal?

[Bug 1889509] Re: grub boot error : "symbol 'grub_calloc' not found

2020-08-04 Thread Edelmar Ziegler
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1889556 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1889556

Just had the same issue on an aws instance running ubuntu 18.04.4
(GNU/Linux 5.3.0-1028-aws x86_64)

It bricked that instance when I rebooted it. I did run apt a few days
ago and today noticed the system was asking for a reboot, which I did
after business hours.

Now I can only see the screenshot, it says:
error: symbol `grub_calloc´ not found.
Entering rescue mode...
grub rescue> _

Seems to be a prompt, I cannot interact with.
The instance monitoring graph on CPU use is up to 49% since this happened. Is
it actually trying to fix itself?

>From what I've read the only way back for that one would be to launch
another instance an manually recreate the messed config on the bricked
one's volume. Is it the case?

Luckily enough I had an almost exact copy of that instance running
already, so I just redirected traffic. But this second instance seems to
be in the same stage, it is asking for a reboot and I have no idea if I
can do that. Can anyone point me to the direction of what I should do to
fix it?

Re: [Bug 1888894] Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 [168c:0042] Subsystem [1028:1810] Ubuntu 20.04: wifi drops and speed is degraded periodically

2020-08-04 Thread Stephen Waines
Hello,

Though this bug is fixed for me. I know that others still experience
this.

I am part of an ubuntu group on facebook.

I constantly see posts of people losing wifi once theyre computer wakes
up from standby. I post my fix to use stacer to disable bluetooth and
change your power saving options.

See I initially had this issue happen alot and I was told to disable
bluetooth. But I also found i had to change my power saving options. It
still happened every now and then after that but not as often.

Basically the computer goes in airplane mode.

I wondering if network manager controls bluetooth and wifi.

Anyways I just thought id voice this knowledge to you.

In all regards it is fixed from my end.

ps i really appreciate the work you guys do to make such a robust OS. :)

-hope this helps

[Bug 1888507] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2020-08-04 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From i...@de.ibm.com 2020-08-04 18:45 EDT---
Hi,

I fixed the skydive header as follows:

--- a/ebpf/defs.h
+++ b/ebpf/defs.h
@@ -56,7 +56,7 @@ static __inline int discret_memcmp(char *s1, char *s2, int n)
/* helper marcro to define a map, socket, kprobe section in the

+#define MAP(NAME) struct bpf_map_def __section("maps") NAME =
#define SOCKET(NAME) __section("socket_" #NAME)
#define LICENSE __section("license")
and also tried to cherry-pick some of the older kernel patches I wrote, e.g.:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/s390/linux.git/commit/?h=features=88aa8939c96781089e5ace3492d818074c5c6fe9

- the new ones I linked here fix samples and aren't relevant for skydive
- but then I found out that quite some common code is missing as well.
For example, on 20.04 LLVM 10 is default. It contains the following
commit:

which makes clang produce non-backwards-compatible BTF. This leads to:

[14] FUNC bpf_flow_table type_id=12 vlen != 0
libbpf: Error loading .BTF into kernel: -22.

when loading. It's not that BPF devs did not think about this: in case
kernel cannot handle the new BTF_KIND_FUNC bits, they are supposed to be
sanitized by libbpf. However, Ubuntu 20.04 does not ship the newest
libbpf:

# /usr/sbin/bpftool --version
/usr/lib/linux-tools/5.4.0-42-generic/bpftool v5.4.44

whereas the commit that introduced sanitization is in v5.6:

commit 2d3eb67f64ec317bbfe340cfcc8325d40a6ff317  # v5.6
Author: Alexei Starovoitov

libbpf: Sanitize global functions

Since this now turns into quite an adventure w.r.t. backporting, can't
we try an easier path first? Namely: use clang-8, which is also
available in Ubuntu 20.04, but doesn't include any fancy stuff!

skydive# CLANG=clang-8 GOPATH=$HOME/go make -C ebpf
skydive# bpftool prog load ebpf/flow.o /sys/fs/bpf/flow ; echo $?
0
# bpftool prog load ebpf/flow-gre.o /sys/fs/bpf/flow-gre ; echo $?
0
