2020-09-10 Thread x@m72
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1871794 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871794

I tried @Pelayo Méndez's solution on my MSI Prestige 14 A10SC:

1) replaced the ibt- * drivers of version 20.04, contained in
/lib/firmware/intel, with those of version 18.04
2) cleared ~ /.config/pulse

without success.

I tried to replaced /etc/pulse/default.pa too, and reboot, but without success

yes I know that. I'm talking about gnome-control-center not saving the
settings.

[Bug 1894772] Re: live migration of windows 2012 r2 instance with virtio balloon driver fails from mitaka to queens.

2020-09-10 Thread Seyeong Kim
workaround
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1647389/comments/15
didnt work.

I worried that if we patch this to over Q,
I assume that live migration current running instances from current Q to
patched Q

so I've tested some scenario

###
Scenario 1
###
Mitaka < -> Mitaka  ( 2.5 )
->
Queens ( patched, 2.11 )
->
Focal : FAILED
###

###
Scenario 2
###
Mitaka < -> Mitaka  ( 2.5 )
->
Queens ( patched, 2.11 )
->
Bionic : FAILED
###

###
Scenario 3
###
Bionic -> Bionic( patched, 2.11 )
###
Bionic <-> Bionic
->
Bionic( patched ) OK
###

2020-09-10 Thread Gerald Gilbert-Thorple
Hi Daniel, yes I was going to resort to that if necessary. Thanks!

One comment though, I found that the setting was not even saved before I
switched to Fvwm.
I had to redo the mouse speed each time I logged into an Ubuntu session.

[Bug 1895218] Re: Xorg crash

2020-09-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1895217] Re: gnome control center mouse settings don't work in other window manager

2020-09-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I don't think we will ever support that. Aside from anything else, even
if gnome-control-center did successfully change a setting, it would not
be remembered in the next Fvwm session.

A simple solution is for you to configure your mouse from a Terminal
window:

  xinput
xinput list-props N where N is your mouse device ID
  xinput set...

[Bug 1894867] Re: WiFi works on kernel version LL 115 but not LL 117

2020-09-10 Thread Michael F Winthrop
Problem Solved: I fixed the issue with:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-4.15.0-117-lowlatency
sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-4.15.0-117-lowlatency
sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-4.15.0-117-generic

What I saw was that VirtualBox was also corrupt in the 117 O/S but not
in the 115 version. The solution above fixed the WiFi and VirtualBox.

Please note that I generally do not like using Discover to run updates. I
prefer:
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

Sometimes Discover locks updates from the command prompt, and I have to
kill the locks. Discover takes a long time to do updates. I thought the
"silent upgrade" was a new feature of Discover.

The "bot" upgrade was something new to me, and now I think that it might
be a security problem.

[Bug 1736222] Re: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

2020-09-10 Thread treloar
I started having issue's with sound being off as it were, I tried
different browsers and headphones and was starting to think it was just
me... then I notice in the sound settings - application tab that I had 5
speech-dispatchers going and upon doing a Google on them landed here.

Upon using the command: killall speech-dispatcher
My sound went back to normal, I never got these before what has change recently
to cause this? (Specifically I had updates come through last week and since
then I've had this crap)

[Bug 1895036] Re: spamprobe crashes on train and cleanup operations

2020-09-10 Thread Luke Schierer
I copied my database out of the way and created a new one to see if that
helped. Working it through a corpus of my saved mail with train-good and this
brand-new empty database, I see that it is not crashing on every run, only some
of them.
I do not know yet if there is a pattern to when it does and does not crash, the
count of emails it will and will not train-good on is not at all consistent.

[Bug 1893775] Re: [UBUNTU 20.04.1] Failure to install Ubuntu 20.04.1 as KVM guest on DASD

2020-09-10 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
It seems from a quick look that parted just embeds a (ancient) copy of
fdasd to do the identification, so I don't think there's any real
benefit to using parted over fdasd directly.

It would really be more in keeping with how we expect things to work to
have a udev rule that would run fdasd on block devices and record in
udev somehow if they are dasds and maybe that's something we should work
towards in 21.04 but maybe we should also think of a way to make this
work in focal (starting by making changes to probert, I guess).

[Bug 1893781] Re: xfce4-screensaver shows desktop and no login screen when waking from suspend

2020-09-10 Thread Craig Harding
I have similar behaviour. When I close lid, it suspends normally. When I
open the lid, I see a glimpse (0.5s to 1.0s duration) of my desktop but
login screen shows up. But the only difference is I get the login screen
show up. I assume the glimpse of the desktop is also a bug but I
couldn't find it through the search. This bug could be related to
1875025:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-screensaver/+bug/1875025/comments/24
as I've turned off the 'Enable Lock Screen' on the screensaver
preferences in the meantime until 1875025 is resolved.

[Bug 1888598] Re: pulseaudio has is buggy with hdmi audio and sleep/wake

2020-09-10 Thread Hui Wang
What I saw is the hdmi-port0 (monitor) is resumed earlier than hdmi-
port1 (home theatre) and hidmi-port0 has higher priority than hdmi-
port1, so the profile of hdmi-port1 will not be active and the sink of
hdmi-port1 will not be created after resume. (not 100% sure)

If you could not switch the port, we have another way to do the test.
Drop the (load-module module-switch-on-connect blacklist=""), then edit
the /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/ hdmi-output-0.conf and hdmi-
output-1.conf, change the priority in 0.conf to 58 and change the
priority in 1.conf to 59, then reboot.

When you have time, could do a test and collect the log between suspend
and resume.

[Bug 1895217] [NEW] gnome control center mouse settings don't work in other window manager

2020-09-10 Thread Gerald Gilbert-Thorple
Public bug reported:

I would like to use gnome control center from Fvwm window manager. But
the mouse speed does not respond at all to what I set unless I am
running it from the default ubuntu window manager. I tried running
gnome control center using different XDG environment variables as
suggested by some posts, but this had no effect.

[Bug 1879012] Re: GRUB does not bring up networking when loaded over HTTP

2020-09-10 Thread Lee Trager
I mean the output of /sys/class/dmi/id/product_uuid. However I'm not
sure how reliable that is. Since I made that comment we've had multiple
users report(LP:1893690) some vendors are handing out duplicate UUIDs.
MAAS handles this by ignoring any UUID which has been duplicated.

[Bug 1892559] Re: [MIR] ccid libpam-pkcs1 libpcsc-perl opensc pcsc-tools pcsc-lite

2020-09-10 Thread Joy Latten
Hi Seth and Christian,

I did a smartcard setup and confirmed I did not have to use anything
from pcsc-tools. And pcsc-tools seem to depend on libpcsc-perl, so won't
need pcsc-perl either.

My "sudo apt install opensc" pulled in libccid, libpcslite1, opensc-
pkcs11 and pcscd binary packages. I only needed one additional install
of "libpam-pkcs11".

Next, I am looking into the pcscd requirement. Will comment shortly.

[Bug 1893484] Re: Google Chrome 85.0.4183.83 crahses with SIGSEGV

2020-09-10 Thread alex-mobigo
I have updated Chromium (Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS).

Version 85.0.4183.83 (Official Build) Built on Ubuntu , running on
Ubuntu 18.04 (64-bit) is not affected by this bug.

In the case of Google-chrome i tried to remove, purge, clean the
directory /opt and the .cache and it did not help.

It worth noting a few things about my linux box:

1. I upgraded from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 (actually is Ubuntu with LXDE)
2. Ubuntu 16.04 worked stably, quickly, occasional freezes on Google-chrome
3. After the update i was affected by the "!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost"
bug, some info and fix here: https://github.com/avafinger/libx11_1.6.4

> It "comes up" but no graphics (or text) are displayed. Just a large empty
> window (still with a > title) is displayed.
Looks similar to the !xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost issue but firing the
browser a second or third time always worked. Meld, Geany, pcmanfm would crash
later for the same reason, so in the case of the "Empty window" seems more a
GPU issue with the browser IMO.

[Bug 1895215] [NEW] egg-info missing for cysignals

2020-09-10 Thread S Prasanth
Public bug reported:

I have `python3-cysignals-pari` installed in Ubuntu 20.04. This provides
the python module cysignals.

But running `pip check` returns the following message:
pplpy 0.8.4 requires cysignals, which is not installed.
cypari2 2.1.1 requires cysignals, which is not installed.

The issue seems to be caused by missing metadata (either as egg-info or
dist-info). For example, I would've expected to see the folder
`cysignals-1.10.2.egg-info` in `/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages`.

Not sure if this counts as a bug, since it doesn't cause any loss of
functionality. Cheers!

[Bug 1862171] Re: [SRU] shim 15+1552672080.a4a1fbe-0ubuntu2

2020-09-10 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
-device e1000,netdev=n1,bootindex=1

adding ',bootindex=1' causes the netboot to actually be used by default.

And for automating the test, it would be nice to boot to echo a message
and shutdown, such that one can capture console log to verify if the
boot was as expected.

[Bug 1881387] Re: xfce4-screensaver is invisible when it was invoked by lid closing

2020-09-10 Thread Filipe R
I'm able to reproduce this issue on my Desktop computer (running Xubuntu
20.04.1).

My setup has two monitors: one connected by DisplayPort, and another by HDMI. I
can only reproduce this if they are not in mirror mode.
One thing to note is that whenever the DisplayPort monitor is turned off or on
(or disconnected), the screens are reconfigured.

To reproduce this issue, I lock the screen (through the screensaver or
by invoking xflock4), and then turn the DisplayPort monitor off. After
the reconfiguration the desktop is visible, although it's not possible
to interact with it.

At this point turning the DisplayPort monitor back on triggers another
reconfiguration and the lock screen is visible again.
When the desktop is visible through the lock screen it's possible to type the
password and unlock the screen.

[Bug 1891773] Re: kcompactd0 and btrfs-transaction keep deadlocking with each other

2020-09-10 Thread Kevin Buhr
As another data point, I was running 4.15.0-106-generic on a BTRFS file
server with an uptime since June. After rebooting Sept 4 to
4.15-0-115-generic, I've experienced this sort of deadlock every few
days (on Sept 5, 8, and 10) under both the -115 and -117 kernels. So,
given the above report on -112, it looks like a regression between -106
and -112. Hope that helps! (I'm going to give the HWE a spin, too.)

[Bug 1895109] Re: mm/slub kernel oops on focal kernel 5.4.0-45

2020-09-10 Thread Ubuntu Kernel Bot
This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves
the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the
results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-

the tag 'verification-needed-focal' to 'verification-failed-focal'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

[Bug 1019700] Re: Declares that it depends on testresources at the python level, but the package doesn't depend on it

2020-09-10 Thread S Prasanth
Still persists in the python3-launchpadlib 1.10.13 package in Ubuntu
20.04.

Not sure if the right solution would be to
A) move `testresources` from `install_requires` to `tests_require` in the
setup.py file
(https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~lazr-developers/launchpadlib/trunk/view/head:/setup.py),
 or
B) make `python3-testresources` a dependency of the `python3-launchpadlib`
package.

Option (A) would make more sense to me. Cheers!

[Bug 1893484] Re: Google Chrome 85.0.4183.83 crahses with SIGSEGV

2020-09-10 Thread David Williams
> I would appreciate if you could comment on this bug when
> you get the update to let me know whether chromium-browser still works.

For me, chromium-browser stopped working when updated to version 85.0.4183.83
(on Ubuntu 18.04.5).
It "comes up" but no graphics (or text) are displayed. Just a large empty
window (still with a title) is displayed. A right-mouse click will bring up an
empty window that looks to be a context menu but it is completely blank.

I have tried "purging" chromium-browser and re-installing, but no
change.

It happened a few days ago, approximately Sept. 8, and I just now
started searching for issues, and found this bug open that might be
related.

[Bug 1830746] Re: memlock setting in systemd (pid 1) too low for containers (bionic)

2020-09-10 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Hi Sebastian, thanks for offering help. And thanks of course Kees for reporting
the issue!
Recently we faced a build breakage of cryptsetup package narrowed to this
issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/+bug/1891473

I intend to bump this limit to 64M to match recent releases; I'm using
the upstream systemd commit for this:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/91cfdd8d29

Cheers,

Guilherme
