Glad it works for you. You may want to reply to that email with the
following content to make the patch accepted by the maintainer faster,

Tested-by: Your_name

The receiver should be linux-in...@vger.kernel.org.

And put the following addresses in the CC filed,
Jiri Kosina
Benjamin Tissoires
coiby...@gmail.com

You should also put set the reply-to header to
20201009081100.3154-1-coiby...@gmail.com in your client client so the
message will show in the same thread. And make sure use the plain text
format.

If you don't want go through these hassles, you may send your name to me
by email so I'll do it on behalf of you.

But if you say everything works now then I suggest we leave this bug

[Bug 1899798] Re: Gnome Activities overview broken

2020-10-14 Thread Michael
I executed the requested command.

I forgot to mention this - I also have tried to disable all gnome
extensions, logged out and back in again. This did not change the
behaviour.

However: today after starting my machine up the gnome activities overview was
working again as if nothing had happened.
Yesterday I restarted the laptop too, but this did not change anything in the
broken behaviour.

So for me it works again now, but if I can assist further please let me know.

This patch hasn't been included in Linux 5.9. And I'm not sure when this
patch will be accepted by the subsystem maintainer and eventually reach
your distribution. But you can following the instructions in #211 and
#212 to try this solution.

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-10-14 Thread Coiby Xu
Additional notes to #211:

Actually rebooting your machine is not necessary for simply testing the
module. You can remove the old kernel first,

$ sudo rmmod i2c-hid

and then insert the new module with the parameter "polling_mode=1"
$ sudo insmod i2c-hid.ko polling_mode=1

For have persistent effect, you need to add i2c-hid.polling_mode=1 to the
kernel boot parameters to make the
touchpad work after installing this new i2c-hid module following the
instructions in #211.

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-10-14 Thread Coiby Xu
For those who want to try the polling mode i2c-hid, here are the
instructions to build a single i2c-hid module without building a whole
kernel or downloading the whole kernel source code,

1. After you download the attached file which contains patched i2c-hid-core.c
and other headers for building, run make to build this module,

$ make
make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd`
make[1]: Entering directory '/usr/lib/modules/5.9.0-1-MANJARO/build'
  AR  /home/coiby/Desktop/kernel/other/i2c-hid_standalone/built-in.a
  CC [M]  /home/coiby/Desktop/kernel/other/i2c-hid_standalone/i2c-hid-core.o
  CC [M]
/home/coiby/Desktop/kernel/other/i2c-hid_standalone/i2c-hid-dmi-quirks.o
  LD [M]  /home/coiby/Desktop/kernel/other/i2c-hid_standalone/i2c-hid.o
  MODPOST /home/coiby/Desktop/kernel/other/i2c-hid_standalone/Module.symvers
  CC [M]  /home/coiby/Desktop/kernel/other/i2c-hid_standalone/i2c-hid.mod.o
  LD [M]  /home/coiby/Desktop/kernel/other/i2c-hid_standalone/i2c-hid.ko
make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/lib/modules/5.9.0-1-MANJARO/build'

2. Copy i2c-hid.ko to override the current one whose path can be found by
modinfo

$ modinfo i2c-hid.ko
filename:
/lib/modules/5.9.0-1-MANJARO/kernel/drivers/hid/i2c-hid/i2c-hid.ko.xz

$ cp i2c-hid.ko /lib/modules/5.9.0-1-MANJARO/kernel/drivers/hid/i2c-hid
/i2c-hid.ko.xz

3. run depmod
$ sudo depmod

4. reboot the system and play with your touchpad

2020-10-14 Thread Greggth
I'm seeing the same thing. Basically, any use of clock_gettime now
requires a syscall (isntead of using vsdo). The applications I'm running
do a lot of clock_gettime's, and basically cannot run performantly
anymore after this happens.

[Bug 1854621] Re: ubuntu 20.04 daily boots with no background, selecting other background has warped picture

2020-10-14 Thread Chris Guiver
Ubuntu groovy daily 2020-10-14 (QA-test live) on
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)

glitches are evident on wallpaper, but not always when it's changed, switch
between two photos & 3 of 4 selects will have it glitched, 1 will not, glitches
will also be different each time

example of glitch is https://photos.app.goo.gl/yZoN34kFBM4UaLh7A

I only saw glitches evident on wallpaper itself (background of desktop),
NOT on any window opened, so effect is ~minor.

Expanding on Shambler's 2019/03/23 comment, clock_gettime showing up in
the strace can be caused by the TSC clock source being marked unstable
(after a sleep for some people, like me).

problem with wifi, only when hardwired. Runs with no displays attached.

Currently Ubuntu 19.10 - will be upgrading to 20.04 and will update if
issue does not resolve

[Bug 1899878] [NEW] Python's test_ssl fails starting from Ubuntu 20.04

2020-10-14 Thread Bug Reporter
Public bug reported:

Please take a look at https://bugs.python.org/issue41561. Developers who
work on Python think that the issue is due to a change in Ubuntu 20.04
that is best described by https://bugs.python.org/issue41561#msg378089:

"It sounds like a Debian/Ubuntu patch is breaking an assumption. Did
somebody report the bug with Debian/Ubuntu maintainers of OpenSSL
already? Fedora also configures OpenSSL with minimum protocol version of
TLS 1.2. The distribution does it in a slightly different way that makes
the restriction discoverable and that is compatible with Python's test
suite."

[Bug 1899308] Re: failure to boot groovy daily (again)

2020-10-14 Thread Chris Guiver
Ubuntu daily groovy (2020-10-14) written with `dus` (mkusb in 'live')
responds identically to Lubuntu daily.

First attempt on
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
worked, but subsequent reboots all failed.
Refer
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/413/builds/221721/testcases/1303/results
for some details, but I attempted more than I listed on iso.qa.ubu
Different USB ports tried, waits as long as ~90 mins between off & back on for
next try were tried as well as many reboots...
Identical results to Lubuntu over last two days.

Also failed on
- hp dc7900 (c2d-e8400, 4gb, intel 4 series integrated i915)

Any thoughts on a workaround or next best steps? Anything dealing with
grub always scares me because it impacts rebooting.

[Bug 1899853] Re: Screen freezing

2020-10-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Does the problem only happen when playing video?

I can see the Discord snap is flooding your system log, which can cause
freezes (usually every 5 seconds) when the kernel needs to sync/flush to
disk. So please try uninstalling the Discord snap and tell us if the
situation improves.

If the problem keeps happening then please run 'top' to check for any
high CPU users, and please also run (while the problem is happening):

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 1899832] Re: CONFIG options for (ipip, sit) should not be built-in to the KVM kernels

2020-10-14 Thread Khaled El Mously
** Description changed:

  CONFIG_NET_IPIP and CONFIG_IPV6_SIT are set to =y in the -kvm kernels.

  This means that they are always present in the kernel, and the virtual
  devices they created (tunl0 and sit0) are always present, even when not
  configured and not needed.

  This is causing some issues for clouds that use the -kvm flavour, and
  there is no good reason for those configuration options to be =y anyway.

  So they should be converted to =m instead.
+
+
+ [Regression potential]
+
+ - I'm not aware of any. General consensus is that these options should
+ have been =m all along.

[Bug 1899766] Re: Xorg freeze after selecting large cursor

2020-10-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This is going to confuse the situation but your kernel log
CurrentDmesg.txt shows the kernel keeps crashing in the video4linux
webcam code. I don't *think* that's related to this bug, but it is
filling your kernel log with crash reports.

As for this bug...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

I've managed to test bionic as well. It is pretty much same as xenial.
That means while the source code is broken, in a sense that the compiler
is allowed to generate broken code, the generated code does not exhibit
the issue in question.

As with xenial I do see intermittent connection problems with iperf3,
but the recv queue does not get stuck for good (like in focal, because
of the lost interrupt).

The presumably fixes the code source I can not see any positive or
negative impact with regards to the intermittent and recoverable
connectivity problems.

[Bug 1899857] Re: [SRU] alsa-lib: support the enum value settings both in "" and in ''

2020-10-14 Thread Hui Wang
This is the debdiff for groovy.

thx.

** Description changed:

- This bug is for tracking purpose.
+ [Impact]
+ Recently the ucm added some amixer settings, like this one:
+ cset "name='rt711 ADC 23 Mux' 'MIC2'"
+ This setting is needed for Dell soundwire audio machines, and only
+ this setting is set correctly, the headset-mic could work. And we
+ already backported this ucm to focal. But the alsa-lib ctl parse
+ doesn't support the enum value in the '' yet, so this amixer setting
+ can't be set correctly under current focal and groovy, we need to
+ backport a patch from alsa-lib master branch.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Backport a patch from upstream, this patch is not in the groovy
+ yet (not in the alsa-lib v1.2.3.2), so both groovy and focal need this
+ patch.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ On the Dell soundwire audio machine, run alsactl init, then check if
+ the amixer "rt711 ADC 23 Mux" is set to "MIC2" or not, if it is set
+ correctly, it means the alsalib enum ctl parse support both "" and ''
+ now.
+
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ This could introduce failure on setting enum amixer settings, users
+ will experience the failure of audio device like the speaker can't output
+ sound, the mic can't record sound. But this possibility is very low since
+ we have tested this SRU on many LENOVO and Dell machines (with and without
+ soundwire audio), all worked as fine as before.

I need to fix something: fence_aws agent requires python-request and
python-boto3 libraries to be installed. I will have to put those as
fence-agents Recommends. I have also to check a requirement on "plug"
argument (as it is not really required for fence_aws to work).

The way I declared the primitive was:

[Bug 1899858] [NEW] Distribution 20.04.1 does not support Atheros 802.11n wireless LAN cards

2020-10-14 Thread Robert Pearson
Public bug reported:

Distribution 20.04.1 does not support Atheros 802.11n wireless LAN
cards. Either the module (ath9k) is missing or the "improved" version
does not work.

I am currently running Ubuntu MATE 18.04.5. Since this is no longer supported,
I tried to install 20.04.1. Unfortunately this version does not support my WiFi
hardware (versions 13.04-19.10 do).
So I am stuck at 18.04 until 20.04 is actually ready to be released. (Is it an
alpha version?)

I tried a BrosTrend WiFi adapter from another computer since I have the
driver on CD. That dose not work either.

[Bug 1897920] Re: [MIR] pi-bluetooth

2020-10-14 Thread Dave Jones
Updated test package now being built in the following PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~waveform/+archive/ubuntu/pi-bluetooth/+packages

I'll work on upstreaming our delta, but one thing to be aware of is that
most of the changes aren't actually a delta and can't be upstreamed.
Specifically, the changes in debian/rules and debian/compat, which clean
up a few lintian warnings *can* be upstreamed, and I'll open a ticket
for those.

However, the changes in lib/udev/rules.d/90-pi-bluetooth.rules are
actually copies of these rules from the etc/udev/rules.d/99-com.rules
file in the raspberrypi-sys-mods package upstream
(https://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/pool/main/r/raspberrypi-sys-
mods/) which is a collection of various raspberry pi related settings,
many of which which can't (easily / directly) incorporate into Ubuntu.
Those rules, however, are necessary to make the Bluetooth UART work (and
coincidentally set up aliases for the serial console UART when that is
enabled, which is presumably why they're in raspberrypi-sys-mods
upstream and not pi-bluetooth).

[Bug 1899856] Re: Upgrade attempt fails

2020-10-14 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
I notice you have gnuradio packages installed. They have been causing
issues with 20.04 upgrade. You may want to try removing them and
reinstalling gnuradion after upgrade if you still want it.

[Bug 1899841] Re: Leaks memory on client disconnect while using TLS

2020-10-14 Thread Unit 193
** Description changed:

  Howdy,

  When one has TLS enabled, icecast2 leaks memory on client disconnect.
  Given the nature of a streaming server this happens all the time.

  There are two ways to solve this, one would be to switch to using
  OpenSSL rather than WolfSSL, while the other would be to apply a tiny
  patch that was written by one of the WolfSSL contributors and is
  attached.

  I tested both solutions and they most certainly do solve the problem.
  One can easily test by setting up icecast2, connecting a source client,
  then creating a loop with wget to generate a lot of connect/disconnect
  noise.

+ [Impact]
+
+ Anyone that uses TLS will be affected.
+
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Set up icecast2 with TLS and hook up a source client such as ices2,
+ darkice, boodler, etc.
+
+ Quickly connect and disconnect some clients:
+
+ for i in `seq 1 300`;do timeout 3 wget -O /dev/null https://DOMAIN.TLD
+ :TLS-PORT/STREAM-MOUNT;done
+
+ And watch the memory increase.
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Well it's a minimal patch, so topping OOM'ing due to too many clients is
+ going to be hard to beat.
+
+ If switching to OpenSSL, this is perhaps a bigger change due to
+ switching out TLS backends, but perhaps has been tested more.
+
+
  ~Unit 193

[Bug 1899308] Re: failure to boot groovy daily (again)

2020-10-14 Thread Chris Guiver
Lubuntu groovy daily (2020-10-14) is reacting the same as yesterdays
(written with `dus` (mkusb live))

first boot on
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
worked, but all subsequent boots made (reboot, or turning off, waiting &
turning back on) have failed.

no tries on
- hp dc7900 (c2d-e8400, 4gb, intel 4 series integrated i915)
booted

This is identical to what occurred yesterday.
(I'll grab latest Ubuntu next which I wasn't able to test yesterday)

[Bug 1899206] Re: Tweaktool Keyboard “Additional Layout Options” not persisting on USB keyboard unplug/reconnect

2020-10-14 Thread Weston Hunter
@mhalsharif: I'm currently not using any Apple hardware, but I'm seeing
all the same behavior you are (except I don't lose settings on
lock/unlock).

I have currently done the following things:
* I moved all my keyboard customizations from dconf settings
[/org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/xkb-options] (which is where Tweak Tool puts
the config) and put them in /etc/default/keyboard:XKBOPTIONS. Since these
settings are default, when the keyboard resets to these defaults, it resets
back to the config I want. (This fixes the keyboard reset, but still will not
fix the mouse resetting issue.) If you want to try this approach, you can just
add the default configuration options like this:
XKBOPTIONS="shift:both_capslock,ctrl:swap_lalt_lctl_lwin,caps:escape"

* I have also downgraded mutter (`sudo apt install
mutter=3.36.1-3ubuntu3 mutter-common=3.36.1-3ubuntu3
libmutter-6-0=3.36.1-3ubuntu3 gir1.2-mutter-6=3.36.1-3ubuntu3`). This
downgraded version fixes all the resetting issues (although I'm stuck on
the downgraded mutter version until a fix gets released).

[Bug 1899854] [NEW] [SRU] Move to Canonical's GeoIP Service

2020-10-14 Thread Simon Quigley
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * Lubuntu currently uses ipapi.co for GeoIP services.
 * ipapi.co is not controlled by us, and could become obsolete in the future.
 * Canonical already provides this service, so we should move to use this
instead.

[Test Case]

 1. With a Lubuntu 20.04 LTS daily ISO, install the package from focal-proposed.
 2. Ensure that your current timezone is correctly identified and selected.

[Regression Potential]

 * Any underlying regressions to the XML library could affect this change.
 * If Canonical's GeoIP service goes down, the default location is New York.
This provides a clear fallback.
 * Edge cases with Canonical's GeoIP service might occur, but should be
addressed with the service itself and not our settings.

[Bug 1899206] Re: Tweaktool Keyboard “Additional Layout Options” not persisting on USB keyboard unplug/reconnect

2020-10-14 Thread M Alsharif
@westonhunter: I use gnome tweasks to swap the left Win with left Ctrl
on my Apple keyboard. To clarify, that setting is lost even after I type
in my password and get back into the desktop. As a temporary solution, I
set "blank screen delay" to never and disabled "automatic screen lock",
so I don't have to reset the gnome session everytime my screen goes
blank.

Do you use Apple Keyboard? I am not sure if this behaviour have
something to do with that. I should also mention that I use Apple Magic
Mouse II and noticed that "Natural Scrolling" does not work when the
mouse is reconnected or the system is restarted. So I would have to
reset the gnome session for the "Natural Scrolling" to work. All these
settings were working as expected before I installed the ubuntu update
earlier this week.

[Bug 1899852] [NEW] Cannot assign requested address: AH00072: make_sock: could not bind to address

2020-10-14 Thread Benjamin Allot
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Let's first list my configuration items:
* apache2 2.4.29-1ubuntu4.14
* release: Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS

Upon reboot, the following message is seen in apache2.service logs:

-- Unit apache2.service has begun starting up.
Oct 14 12:18:32 SERVER apachectl[3833]: (99)Cannot assign requested address:
AH00072: make_sock: could not bind to address [REDACTED IPV6.33]:443
Oct 14 12:18:32 SERVER apachectl[3833]: no listening sockets available,
shutting down
Oct 14 12:18:32 SERVER apachectl[3833]: AH00015: Unable to open logs
Oct 14 12:18:32 SERVER apachectl[3833]: Action 'start' failed.
Oct 14 12:18:32 SERVER apachectl[3833]: The Apache error log may have more
information.
Oct 14 12:18:33 SERVER systemd[1]: apache2.service: Control process exited,
code=exited status=1
Oct 14 12:18:33 SERVER systemd[1]: apache2.service: Failed with result
'exit-code'.
Oct 14 12:18:33 SERVER systemd[1]: Failed to start The Apache HTTP Server.

The apache2 configuration is using the ipv4 and ipv6 present on the server:
/etc/apache2/ports.conf:Listen :443
/etc/apache2/ports.conf:Listen :443
/etc/apache2/ports.conf:Listen [REDACTED IPV6::33]:443
/etc/apache2/ports.conf:Listen [REDACTED IPV6::35]:443

and the /etc/network/interfaces look as this (no netplan):
# Additional IPs that are used to serve https traffic for
# releases.ubuntu.com so that archive doesn't respond on 443.
auto bond0:1
iface bond0:1 inet static
address .247/32
# Using up/down to avoid LP:1347246.
up /sbin/ip addr add REDACTED IPV6::33/128 dev $IFACE preferred_lft 0
down /bin/ip addr del REDACTED IPV6::33/128 dev $IFACE preferred_lft 0

# Additional IPs that are used to serve *.clouds.archive.ubuntu.com
# with HTTPProtocolOptions unsafe, which is needed to work around
# cloud-init bug LP:1868232 (cRT#125271).
auto bond0:2
iface bond0:2 inet static
address .245/32
# Using up/down to avoid LP:1347246.
up /sbin/ip addr add REDACTED IPV6::35/128 dev $IFACE preferred_lft 0
down /bin/ip addr del REDACTED IPV6::35/128 dev $IFACE preferred_lft 0

I was surprised that the apache2.service does not contain a
After=network-online.target

$ systemctl show apache2.service | grep -E '(Wants|Require|After|Before)'
RemainAfterExit=no
Requires=system.slice sysinit.target -.mount
Before=multi-user.target shutdown.target
After=basic.target sysinit.target systemd-journald.socket system.slice
network.target nss-lookup.target systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service
remote-fs.target -.mount
RequiresMountsFor=/var/tmp /tmp

$ systemctl show network.target | grep "^After"
After=network-pre.target ifup@bond0.service ifup@ens2f0.service
ifup@ens2f1.service systemd-resolved.service ufw.service networking.service
systemd-networkd.service

So I was wondering if the "ifup@bond0" was enough as a dependency here,
to be sure to have the ipv6 up and running or if we would need something
like "ifup@bond0:2" and "ifup@bond0:1" as part of the list of the
services in the network.target "After" list.

[Bug 1899487] Re: cloud-init hard codes MTU configuration at initial deploy time

2020-10-14 Thread Frode Nordahl
> Hmm, however it should be the same version of cloud-init in either
Bionic or Focal tests. Is this a netplan change?

In the bionic image I have:
$ dpkg -l | egrep "(cloud-init|netplan)"
ii  cloud-init   20.3-2-g371b392c-0ubuntu1~18.04.1
 all Init scripts for cloud instances
ii  cloud-initramfs-copymods 0.40ubuntu1.1
 all copy initramfs modules into root filesystem for later use
ii  cloud-initramfs-dyn-netconf  0.40ubuntu1.1
 all write a network interface file in /run for BOOTIF
ii  libnetplan0:amd640.99-0ubuntu3~18.04.3
 amd64YAML network configuration abstraction runtime library
ii  netplan.io   0.99-0ubuntu3~18.04.3
 amd64YAML network configuration abstraction for various backends

In the focal image I have:
$ dpkg -l | egrep "(cloud-init|netplan)"
ii  cloud-init 20.3-2-g371b392c-0ubuntu1~20.04.1 all
  initialization and customization tool for cloud instances
ii  cloud-initramfs-copymods   0.45ubuntu1   all
  copy initramfs modules into root filesystem for later use
ii  cloud-initramfs-dyn-netconf0.45ubuntu1   all
  write a network interface file in /run for BOOTIF
ii  libnetplan0:amd64  0.99-0ubuntu3~20.04.2 amd64
  YAML network configuration abstraction runtime library
ii  netplan.io 0.99-0ubuntu3~20.04.2 amd64
  YAML network configuration abstraction for various backends

I guess it's time for me to ask a question: is it cloud-init that
renders /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml? If so where does netplan fit in
when the difference is how that file is rendered and not how it is
interpreted. As you can see in #10 the mtu statement is not in the file
on bionic, while it is on focal.

Since versions appear to be the same my guess would be that there is
some internal modelling of how bionic vs. focal should be configured?

> The controls in the OpenStack DHCP service are purely a "on/off"
switch (`advertise_mtu`) about advertising MTU in the DHCP network
details and not the control for what that setting is? The reason I want
to make sure is because I'm always leery when there are multiple sources
of possible truth that have to be sorted and if a user can bite
themselves by changing an MTU value in one place but also another and
which do you listen to/respect.

Previously you had the `advertise_mtu` "on/off" switch which was removed
at OpenStack Ocata (leaving it permanently "on"). In addition to that
the operator of the cloud can inject DHCP configration into the DHCP
servers. The end user consuming the cloud also have control over their
virtual network MTU's through the OpenStack Neutron API.

> The actual value for the MTU is a Neutron setting and in theory,
should be the same then from DHCP network data or by the provided
network_data.json information?

The value for the MTU is a per virtual network setting which is exposed
to the end user of the cloud. And yes, the setting set on the virtual
network should be the one exposed in the network_data.json. But remember
that the operator of the cloud has power to inject options directly into
the DHCP server which could mean the DHCP server could advertise a
different MTU than the user has chosen for their network.

If the operator of the cloud has chosen to do so it is most likely for a
very good operational reason. If the end user or operator intends to
configure instances with DHCP, DHCP should be authoritative source of
truth.

> The final nail in this coffin is that the setting cloud-init is
setting overrides the value for MTU that comes in via DHCP.

> Do I have that right? If so, a couple of questions then.

Yes.

> 1. It seems it would be worthwhile to see if there was some method for
a refreshing cloud-init's details on the network. Ideally here, changing
the network data in Neutron would be able to trigger an update on
instances, though that's a tricky can of worms that could lead to broken
networking on existing hosts if it goes wrong. It smells a bit like the
work we want to completed next cycle around allowing hotplug of a new
nic/device and be able to help drive networking config for it...just
without the whole new device thing heh.

This does indeed sound interesting, with regards to a cloud operator
possibly not having any access or control over the instances end users
run on their cloud having levers to control network configuration in
such instances for maintenance/migration purposes in some manner would
be valuable. The alternative is forklift and endless nagging of end
users to do manual intervention and the support load that comes
afterwards when everything breaks because they did not pay attention to
the operators requests in time.
