[Bug 1890394] Re: Lightdm-gtk-greeter coredump during boot with recent systemd versions

Hello tested on Focal:

linux 5.4.0-53-generic

Everything works fine.

Subject: [Bug 1890394] Re: Lightdm-gtk-greeter coredump during boot with recent
systemd versions

Can anyone tell me if focal is affected by this bug or not? Since I
don't feel comfortable releasing the bionic part without a focal upload
present (if the bug is reproducible there as well).

  * Regression potential
the mlockall call was supposed to provide improved security but isn't
working, it was already commented out some cycles ago in unity-greeter,
upstream and it other distributions

This is one of the many core dumps on `journalctl` for a given boot
(dumps multiple times before starting) :

[Bug 1904102] [NEW] Upgrade from 5.4.0-52 to 5.4.0-53 lost 2.5gbe ethernet on B550 board

2020-11-12 Thread Rob van der Linde
Public bug reported:

I was running Ubuntu 20.04 on a B550 motherboard.

I believe the 2.5gb ethernet is actually only in newer kernels normally
but Ubuntu backport it.

It was working fine, then I received a kernel upgrade 5.4.0-53 and the
ethernet dissapeared.

If I use grub to boot into the old kernel 5.4.0-52 the ethernet is there
still so it appears to be the newer kernel.

[Bug 109943]

2020-11-12 Thread Richard Marti
In TB 78 we use now the HTML progressmeter. I hope this helps a bit.
I tried the FX approach with using a SVG as throbber but I see on my system no
difference to the PNG throbber with 2% CPU.

For the throbber I could create a patch.

[Bug 109943]

2020-11-12 Thread Nl0
I really wonder why even after 11+ years this is still not fixed and
reporters like me have been bugged multiple times with needless Needinfo
requests?!?

As I wrote several times over several years at several places in this bug
tracker:
The problem is easily reproducible with any TB version (meanwhile including
78.4.2.).

Again: just enter an IP address such as 1.2.3.4 as the server name/address.
Then try fetching emails. Until this timeouts,
the progress bar moves forth and back with significant CPU load (10% of one
core on my current Linux machine).

Your hope is not fulfilled.
I've just tried TB 68 in comparison with Tb 78 - and got the same 10% CPU load
on both.
Again - why don't you IT professionals try out such things yourself?!?

[Bug 1904098] [NEW] [SRU] 2.48

2020-11-12 Thread Michael Vogt
Public bug reported:

This is a new version of snapd.

The changelog is available here
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/blob/2.48/packaging/ubuntu-16.04/changelog,
the raw git changelog is available here:
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/commits/2.48 (note that the debian
changelog is auto-generated from the merges of the git commits so there
is usually no need to look at the raw git commits).

The travis logs for 2.48 can be found here: https://travis-
ci.org/snapcore/snapd/branches

The snappy team released a new release that we want SRU into xenial. The
new process described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SnapdUpdates was used
and we have done integration-tests on the snappy images, autopkgtests on
classic and unit tests.

** Description changed:

+ == SRU Justification ==
+ [Impact]
+ Noise-like lines of graphics corruption when moving windows in Xorg
+ sessions.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Revert "UBUNTU: SAUCE: drm/i915: Synchronize active and retire
+ callbacks".
+
+ [Test]
+ Daniel van Vugt confirmed reverting the commit fixes the issue.
+ I can also reproduce the issue on one of my system, I can confirm it
+ fixes the issue too.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ Race condition the commit solves may appear again.
+ However it was to solve the issue on 5.4, and the race could already be
+ solved on 5.8.
+
+ == Original Bug Report ==
+
I left my desktop (T480s thinkpad docked to ThinkVision P24h-10)
unattended for a while, and then got the error message and now have
funny lines on activity, e.g. red lines flashing on top of gnome-shell
bar when switching windows, or white blocks/lines around typing text.

This is the second or third time it happened, reboot fixes it until the
  error pops up again.

[Bug 1586822]

2020-11-12 Thread Mak-g
The changes in bug 1432604 allow the default destination to follow the last
used folder, but it's not possible to disable such behavior, so that the
default folder is always the same. I asked that question to the team and
they'll evaluate based on feedback.
So this is still partially valid in the sense now there is a pref, but it's not
possible to make it static.

I agree with inverting the dependencies.

Can this be closed now that bug 1432604 is fixed? At least this should
probably depend on bug 1432604 rather than block it.

[Bug 1904093] [NEW] libpcl 1.10.0 bugs

2020-11-12 Thread Siwei Feng
Public bug reported:

The official release of PCL (Point Cloud Library)'s version of 1.10.0 has
functions unimplemented compared to others PCL releases, e.g.
PCL::PointXYZRGB(float, float, float, uint8_t, uint8_t, uint8_t). While newer
PCL versions have resolved this issue e.g. 1.10.1, 1.11 etc.
I hope the package management team would consider add newer PCL version to the
official source for Focal.

On KDE Desktop and in Konqueror:
1. Open a context menu by right-clicking on a file.
2. See in the context menu "Rename F2".
3. Press F2.

Result - No response.

There is no reason that the keyboard shortcuts should stop functioning
if a context menu is open.

[Bug 1894867] Re: WiFi works on kernel version LL 115 but not LL 117

2020-11-12 Thread Michael F Winthrop
Same fix worked again. Must be a problem in the upgrade script. I
noticed that the header files were pulled in with the broken wifi
original upgrade (which usually does not happen and I have to do that
after the upgrade). When I just did the reinstall of the upgrade the
install of the kernel complained I had no header files. I therefore
reinstalled them also. Now all WiFi works. Have not checked anything
else yet.

Cheers

[Bug 1900777] Re: [amdgpu] Screen freeze with AMD/ATI Renoir

2020-11-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes, but you would first need to uninstall the driver you installed from
the AMD website. And I don't know how to do that.

Alternatively, reinstall Ubuntu from scratch. If you find Ubuntu 20.04
doesn't support the GPU then maybe try Ubuntu 20.10 (although that one
is only supported until July 2021):

  https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I would probably recommend staying with Ubuntu 20.04 though, and then
logging new bugs about any problems you encounter. It's supported until
2025.

[Bug 1900149] Re: Microcode update causes hard lockups in Intel N4200 CPU/SoC

2020-11-12 Thread Ascaris
I installed it yesterday morning, and it has not locked up since then.
Looks promising so far, as normally it would have locked up by now, but
I'll definitely keep using it (I use the laptop daily anyway) with the
new microcode and report back here.

blocked, so it is necessary for me to show the top bar in another

[Bug 1904075] Re: [NJ5x_NJ7xLU, Realtek ALC293, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all (or so KDE "thinks")

2020-11-12 Thread Brian Foster
Attached is the output of dmesg(1) shortly after a cold cold-boot when the
audio output seems Ok:
The KDE thing knows about the H/W and functions as expected, and all seems
happy.
This is mostly for information and comparison with the report's log (when
things (well,
at least the module & KDE) didn't work).

By "cold cold-boot" I mean a boot from power OFF ("cold-boot") after being OFF
for perhaps
30 minutes ("cold" (i.e., let the system cool down, but I do NOT believe it was
"hot")).

As an aside, I tried using `apport-cli -u...' but it decided there was
nothing new to report.

Still searching for that incident when things changed from not-all-is-Ok
to all-seems-Ok.

[Bug 1904079] [NEW] Wrong keyboard behavior only inside chromium snap

2020-11-12 Thread Kemel Zaidan aka Legendario
Public bug reported:

I've been facing a really strange bug in Ubuntu 20.04. My laptop has
Brazilian Portuguese layout (ABNT-2) but my external keyboard has a US
layout. So, in order to get a cedilla sign <ç> on those keyboards, I
have to change layout to US International with Dead Keys and use an
acute accent plus C <'+c>.

Everything works fine unless inside the Chromium (installed from snap).
In this case I get an accented c <ć>. So, I don't have a way to get a ç
inside chrome, which is used in Portuguese. I'm using chromium from
stable channel.

[Bug 1903893] Re: Notifications from Chromium snap show generic icon

2020-11-12 Thread Sam Lane
My amateur attempt to clairfy... I believe the issue Coeur Noir is
referring to is that Raven / Budgie gets this example as the app_icon:

file:///tmp/.org.chromium.Chromium.beVtiT

But due to it being a snap, the file is actually located at:

/tmp/snap.chromium/tmp/.org.chromium.Chromium.beVtiT

Therefore, Raven (Raven / Budgie Desktop) fails to find the correct
file.

Whether this is ultimately a Raven issue or a Chromium issue, I don't
know.

[Bug 1898614] Re: ubuntu server installer serial console not preserved after update

2020-11-12 Thread Michael Richardson
Hi. I got KVM+serial console to work this time. (I think that by default, kvm
doesn't give the installer enough ram). Going through my proceedure, I allow
the installer to upgrade, and it does in fact continue on the serial console.
It also continues on the tty0, so perhaps I was confused by this.
Sorry for the false report.

Thanks for the update, seems like the issues are continuing . . . my basic
appraoch for the last few mnths is to use synaptic for upgrades in ubuntu
flavors and NOT upgrade grub2 packages, whereas over in OpenSUSE and
Manjaro grub2 upgrades are fine and that keeps my grub working and visible
to boot other systems . . . .

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ An attempt to run the isenkram-lookup command from the isenkram-cli
+ package results in a segfault/crash. The proposed appstream upload fixes
+ the issue.
+
+ [Test case]
+
+ 1. Install the isenkram package

+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ TBH this fix is far above my head. Only code comments are changed, i.e.
+ some occurrences of "full" are replaced with "container", but it still
+ has proved to be it.
+
+ The reasoning in the commit message sounds plausible:
+
+ https://github.com/ximion/appstream/commit/b52858bf
+
+ [Original description]
+
I just run the isenkram-lookup command.

The crash may be related to this autopkgtest failure (which current
  blocks migration of gtk+3.0):

[Bug 1863434] Re: 20.04 grub menu not visible

2020-11-12 Thread UlfZibis
I have the same issue on Lenovo T540p and the latest BIOS update. It has no
dual graphics, only Intel.
Instead of the GRUB boot menu I only see a black screen with big "Lenovo"
logotype. After a while, Ubuntu is started automatically, as it is the first
entry in the boot menu.
However, the boot menu is functional with the up/down keys + Enter.

Starting the PC from an external drive with Ubuntu life media or
MultiSystem USB drive, it's GRUB boot menu is visible as usual.

I had what I _thought_ originally was a very similar issue with Kubuntu 20.04.1

despite the same-ish messages, is somewhat different.

See bug #1904075 ("[NJ5x_NJ7xLU, Realtek ALC293, Speaker, Internal] No

[Bug 1904075] [NEW] [NJ5x_NJ7xLU, Realtek ALC293, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all (or so KDE "thinks")

2020-11-12 Thread Brian Foster
Public bug reported:

This is an odd one (or so it seems to me)...
Sometimes, after booting, my log is filled with messages similar to:

   [ 208.746660] snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: No response from codec, resetting
bus: last cmd=0x20a3b000

   [ 209.758633] snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: No response from codec, resetting
bus: last cmd=0x20a70740

   [ 210.770511] snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: No response from codec, resetting
bus: last cmd=0x20bf0015

See bug #1886626 ("after login to gnome with snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: No
response from codec")
for a very similar problem; or at least the same-ish message.

The KDE volume thingy says there are no audio input or output devices.
I cannot configure anything audio-H/w related with KDE.

HOwEVER, whilst generating this bug report with apport-cli(1), the tests it ran
clearly showed
(heard!) the built-in (internal) speakers are working. Intrigued, I tried a
wireless Bluetooth
headset (it also worked), a wireless USB headset (also worked), and a wired
headset (also worked).
So there *is* sound, but KDE thinks there is no H/w... SOMETIMES.

At other times, everything is fine. There is no known pattern here (e.g.,
warm- or cold-boot
does not seem to matter, etc.). And then, just to confuse things further, at
least once the
system booted up in the KDE-no-sound state (complete with module "No response
from codec"),
but later (a few minutes?) began to work; a check of the log (dmesg(1)) showed
those messages
had stopped and everything from then on appeared normal. (I'll see if I can
find that incident
in the logs, *IF* I can, I'll attach it later.) That "not"-working to working
does not usually
seem to happen (that one incident may be the only time it has happened?)

I have no idea if, when in the KDE-no-sound state, if I can control the volume
from the computer.
I have also NOT tested the input (microphone(s)) whilst in the KDE-no-sound
state, but I presume
it's like the output (works but KDE doesn't know it?).

It sort-of looks like, at the moment, to me, there is sometime amiss in the
"kernel sound stuff"
which is having a knock-on effect on the "KDE sound stuff". Apologies I cannot
be any more
specific... ;-(

[Bug 1904076] [NEW] GRUB install should delete active flag on Windows EFI boot entry

2020-11-12 Thread UlfZibis
Public bug reported:

1. Have Windows 10 installed
2. Install Ubuntu 20.04
3. Start PC, choose Ubuntu in GRUB menu
4. --> Ubuntu is started correctly
5. Restart PC, choose Windows in GRUB menu
4. --> Windows is started correctly
5. Restart PC,
8. --> No GRUB menu, Windows is started immediately

Ubuntu can only be started by manually escaping to the BIOS boot device
menu, because starting Windows has changed the EFI bootorder with
priority to Windows.

Workaround: Manually delete the active flag on the Windows EFI boot
entry with efibootmgr.

So solution could be, that grub-install would delete this flag.

[Bug 1890394] Re: Lightdm-gtk-greeter coredump during boot with recent systemd versions

2020-11-12 Thread Georg Sauthoff
I don't have access to a machine where Ubuntu Focal is installed.

AFAICS, this issue currently breaks Ubuntu Bionic LTS completely for
non-technical users running Lxde (e.g. Lubuntu) who regularly apply
updates (as recommended) without a simple work-around being available.

With non-technical users I'm referring to users who aren't comfortable
on the command line. That means they can't just log into the console and
enable the proposed updates etc.

So I consider this as a pretty serious issue for an LTS release.

Releasing it rather earlier than later would probably lead to less
people being affected (i.e. those who haven't installed the latest
breaking updates yet).

[Bug 1600622] Re: Screen doesn't lock or go to sleep when certain Chrome tabs are open

2020-11-12 Thread Blue
My 2c, no website should ever be able to dictate if my monitor goes or
not to standby. More to the point, I think the screen locking is also
disabled and this makes it a potential security issue, as it would be
trivial for any external party to weaken the security profile applied by
the user. Just as we control how we must explicitly allow websites to
grab audio, or video, we should also explicitly control if it can
override other system settings. Or, there should be something similar
with how macos or android grants some permissions on a per-app basis.

[Bug 1904072] [NEW] jtdiff on xenial and bionic should accept an include file list

2020-11-12 Thread Tiago Stürmer Daitx
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
jtreg version 5.0 or later added a '-match' option that is basically the
reverse of '-exclude': it allows the user to set a file containing the tests
that should be run - files not on the list are 'excluded'.

As an OpenJDK maintainer I would like to have the option to set a
'include' list of tests to be run, so I can easily separate tests
between 'stable' and 'flaky' tests by defining a list of tests that are
known to always pass (and where we actually care for regressions).

[Test Case]
1) Create an inclusion list with a single line
$ echo "compiler/aot/RecompilationTest.java" > /tmp/include-list
2) Run the openjdk-lts hotspot test with -watch
$ jtreg -workDir:"/tmp/work" -reportDir:"/tmp/report"
-jdk:/usr/lib/jvm/default-java -match:/tmp/include-list
-dir:/tmp/openjdk-lts/test/hotspot/jtreg -listtests :hotspot_compiler
Testsuite: /tmp/openjdk-lts/test/hotspot/jtreg
compiler/aot/RecompilationTest.java
Tests found: 1

jtreg from xenial and bionic currently fail as they have no support for
'-match'.

[Where problems could occur]
This adds code that has been highly tested on jtreg 5.0+ to previous versions,
so it could possibly trigger different code paths and regress in some corner
cases. This would probably show up as previously excluded tests no longer being
excluded, since exclusion is now defined as "!match".
Any tool that directly calls 'jtreg -match' - instead of looking for its
version - might consider this is a newer version of jtreg and assume it can
also user other newer features, which would fail.

Perhaps because this has absolutely *nothing* to do with the Debian
Multimedia Team, *and* because you seem to not understand the problem,
and the instructions (delete the now-redundant source package) are clear
and easy to do.

>A source package is required to make a binary dummy transition package

But we don’t *NEED* a binary transition package. None. Zero. Nada.
Keins. нет.

We *just* need the source package removed.

A source package is required to make a binary dummy transition package
in Ubuntu (I did this with the transition from ubuntustudio-controls to
studio-controls). I can do this as it's part of the Ubuntu Studio
packageset, but I cannot remove the source package once that is done,
nor should we.

In Ubuntu, we don't simply remove source packages unless they're FTBFS.
You might do that in Debian, but that's not the way we do things here
necessarily.
