[Bug 1902958] Re: Installer crashed and sent this report (Программа установки аварийно завершила свою работу и отправила отчет)

2020-11-13 Thread John
Thank you, Brian!
The system is really fine - I haven't noticed a single problem while using it.
Once again I regretted that I did not know English. Unfortunately, the quality
of all these translators is poor, but with your help, this bug report has now
been brought back to normal.
All the best!

Translated into English by Google Translate

Спасибо, Brian!

[Bug 1901922] Re: [SRU][Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 1] No sound output device on startup

2020-11-13 Thread Nick Price
Did a fresh install of Groovy on an affected machine and updated it to
the latest release packages first, and confirmed the audio issue still
existed.

I then installed the packages above and rebooted, and audio seems to be
working as expected on that system now.

I think that did the trick!

[Bug 1904258] Re: Nautilus (Files) app shows drive that was pulled out without unmount

2020-11-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1904258/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1853021] Re: ssl-cert generate-default-snakeoil provides no way to override default 10 year expiration or reduce to 825 day expiration

2020-11-13 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

- The CA/Browser Forum now has a standard with maximum expiration of 825
- days.
+ [Impact]
+ The CA/Browser Forum now has a standard with maximum expiration of 825 days.
`ssl-cert generate-default-snakeoil` hardcodes this to 10 years (3650 days),
but provides no mechanism for setting this to alternative values, such as 825.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ $ openssl x509 -enddate -noout -in /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem
+ notAfter=Dec 15 04:21:19 2029 GMT
+ $ sudo rm /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem
/etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key
+ $ make-ssl-cert --expiration-days=10 generate-default-snakeoil
+ notAfter=Nov 24 04:21:43 2020 GMT
+
+ [Where Problems Could Occur]
+ The fix for this bug includes a new implementation of option handling, so the
most likely place to watch for issues would be options that no longer work or
behave differently. However, the script previously supported only a small
number of ways to be executed so is simple to just test all the combinations.
+
+ The purpose of the script itself is to create certificates, so another
+ obvious thing to watch would be invalidly generated certificates.

The openssl req command requires a -days argument to override the default

with /usr/sbin/make-ssl-cert and adding "-days 365" (for example) to the

[Bug 1904231] Re: sigh

2020-11-13 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 19.04 (disco) reached end-of-life on January 23, 2020.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then, please install a
supported version of Ubuntu and re-test. If you then find the bug is
still present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here
telling us which new version it is in.

[Bug 1904241] Re: Unable to recover forgotten archive folder password

2020-11-13 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

I have marked this bug report as incomplete, as I see only request for support,
and not an actual bug. If you believe I'm incorrect, please leave a message
explaining why (you'll then likely be asked to run apport-collect..) and you
can change the status back to "New".

[Bug 1904258] [NEW] Nautilus (Files) app shows drive that was pulled out without unmount

2020-11-13 Thread Aleksandr
Public bug reported:

I mount a flash drive onto my Ubuntu 18.04.5 instance.

Started writing data to it. While data is still being written to the
flash drive I pulled out the flash drive.

Looking at the Nautilus (Files) window, I still see the drive. Running
findmnt -S , produces some output. None is produced when
offically unmounted.

When I plug the flash drive back in, a second instance of the drive
appears.

When drive is pulled, but Nautilus displays the drive, clicking on it
displays "Folder Empty" (or something close).

When drive is put back in and the second instance appears, clicking
either drive displays contents of drive.

This might be caused by a reference being held by the program writing
data to the drive.

[Bug 1818918] Re: gdb doesn't search in debug-file-directory for .gnu_debugaltlink

2020-11-13 Thread Tiago Stürmer Daitx
So the issue is: if there is a .gnu_debugaltlink GDB will try to load
that file and throw an error if it can't. That path is absolute and GDB
does _not_ look for that path/file anywhere else, not even inside
'debug-file-directory'.

GDB seems to only look at section .gnu_debugaltlink in debug/.build-
id/nn/nn.debug, it does not seem to use that section from the binary
at all.

Due to that, another workaround is to modify that section to point to
the 'right' place:

1) use objcopy to dump .gnu_debugaltlink from debug/.build-id/nn/nn.debug
into a file
2) use sed to modify the path in the dump file
3) use objcopy to update .gnu_debugaltlink section in
debug/.build-id/nn/nn.debug

As in:
$ objcopy --dump-section .gnu_debugaltlink=altlink
/tmp/dbgsym/usr/lib/debug/.build-id/76/e9f820204912084fd156c593b2c92f1a4b51f1.debug
$ sed -i 's:^:/tmp/dbgsym:' altlink
$ objcopy --update-section .gnu_debugaltlink=altlink
/tmp/dbgsym/usr/lib/debug/.build-id/76/e9f820204912084fd156c593b2c92f1a4b51f1.debug

[Bug 1904054] Re: kernel 5.8 general protection fault at boot

2020-11-13 Thread Colin Ian King
It maybe worth checking with one or more of the mainline kernels to see
if these behave differently from the Ubuntu kernel just to see if they
boot fine or if they suffer from the same issue.

The mainline kernels can be found in https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline

For example, it may be worth installing the initial 5.8 kernel release
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8/ - use the
following:

https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8/amd64/linux-headers-5.8.0-050800-generic_5.8.0-050800.202008022230_amd64.deb
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8/amd64/linux-headers-5.8.0-050800_5.8.0-050800.202008022230_all.deb
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8/amd64/linux-image-unsigned-5.8.0-050800-generic_5.8.0-050800.202008022230_amd64.deb
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8/amd64/linux-modules-5.8.0-050800-generic_5.8.0-050800.202008022230_amd64.deb

If this boots OK, then maybe then try the latest mainline 5.8 kernel in
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8.18/

Failing that, it may be worth trying the mainline kernels from 5.5..to
5.7 too to see when the issue starts to occur.

Ah, my apologies - I had mis-interpreted the reversion as applying to
the SRU. I've no issue with a reversion in hirsute, provided it doesn't
delay existing users from using their Bluetooth hardware.

I estimate, as I think several others do judging by various comments,
that the patches in their current state don't stand much chance of
passing muster upstream, and I have no desire to waste their time with a
premature submission. At the very least, some justification needs adding
to the 1 second sleep: either a datasheet reference, which I've so far
failed to find, or some empirical measurements that it's actually
required (which I'm in the process of gathering; I've verified *a* delay
is required but not the minimum, or whether it can be combined with the
post-load nanosleep), along with evidence it doesn't break any existing
platforms (I've found a datasheet reference to back that bit up, but
tests are good too).

Anyway, sorry I mis-interpreted the release your action applied to; I
look forward to seeing the SRU land.

In the meantime, rest assured a submission will be made upstream as soon
as I think I've got a faint hope of it passing!

I can confirm that this still occurs on 20.10. Is there a workaround to
remove the icon from the dash after ejecting?

[Bug 1818918] Re: gdb doesn't search in debug-file-directory for .gnu_debugaltlink

2020-11-13 Thread Tiago Stürmer Daitx
I tried the testcase from comment #12 in Focal and Hirsute and it worked
just fine:

If the dbgsym is installed and I use (with intentional typo):
set debug-file-directory /tmp/dbgsym/usr/lib/debugnot:/usr/lib/debug
it then loads symbols correctly from /usr/lib/debug

Note, this was tested under Focal (host) and Hirsute (lxd container).

[Bug 1904251] [NEW] Ping interval depends on the system's locale

2020-11-13 Thread Governa
Public bug reported:

iputils-ping:

  Candidato: 3:20190709-3
  Tabella versione:

ping is using the current locale to interpret the interval value:

[Bug 1903776] Re: Changed ubuntu-keyring paths breaks upgrade to focal.

2020-11-13 Thread Simon Poirier
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * When launching an Ubuntu release-upgrade through landscape-client, the
+upgrade-tool fails GPG verification due to trusted apt key having changed
+location as of 18.04 LTS.
+
+ * The proposed patch extends gpg lookup path to include all
+/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/*.gpg files in addition to /etc/apt/trusted.gpg
+when verifying the upgrade-tool signature.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Install and register the landscape-client against a landscape-server
+on a series supporting an upgrade.
+
+ * Wait for it to sync up packages.
+
+ * On the computer packages page, there is a link at the bottom to request a
+release upgrade of that machine, if a supported version is available.
+
+ * The upgrade fails and /var/log/landscape/release-upgrader.log will indicate
+a failed gpg verification.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ * One thing which has been considered in this fix is how someone could have
+worked around the issue by re-creating the old key path. The fix covers
+such a case by still reading the deprecated trusted.gpg file.
+
+ * Although some care has been taken to only load valid gpg keys from apt
+trusted keychain, there could be unforeseen scenarios where invalid data
+gets read from the keychain. In such a case, the strict nature of gpg would
+reject the signature verification, thus being no worse than without the
fix.
+
+ * The affected callsite is used for verifying the release-upgrader code prior
+to running it. One bad thing which we could imagine with this code path is
+falsely accepting an invalid file signature, which may create a security
+issue. This would likely take shape of injecting a gpg key, without
+having root access, in the search path.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * There is no way to directly verify this issue on 20.10 Groovy and later
+(without faking a release) due to the lack of upgrade path to a supported
+LTS. The ubuntu-keyring package having the same file layout, the same
+validation failure is however to be expected if left unpatched.
+
+ [Original description]
+
Since bionic, ubuntu-keyring removed `/etc/apt/trusted.gpg` in favor of
  `/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/`

This breaks signature verification for the upgrade-tool.
Trying to release-upgrade through landscape yields a failure on signature
check:

[Bug 1698351] Re: Search in Nautilus Files does not allow sorting of results

2020-11-13 Thread OzzyFrank
Yep, this needs fixing. I upgraded from 16.04 to 20.04 LTS and while
there have been some great improvements, what's changed in, and been
removed from, Nautilus has been a huge disappointment. Search results
are displayed in some crazed, random manner, and cannot be tailored, so
when there are a lot of results, it's basically unusable. Because I use
search so often, and in folders with lots of files, looks like I Have no
choice but to use Nemo until this is resolved.

[Bug 1901137] Re: UEFI on Legacy - grub-install fails due to no space left on ESP

2020-11-13 Thread Jeremie Tamburini
My bug report #1902269 has been marked as duplicated of this one even if
the description it's not exactly the same.

In any case it looks the problem is related to the EFI (ESP) partition,
that should never be used on old BIOS or UEFI in Legacy Mode, but for
some reasons the installer want it... even if we are NOT in "UEFI mode".

This might be related to recent changes of the installer
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/groovy-to-use-grub2-for-booting-installer-media-in-any-modes-on-all-architectures/16871
You have probably noticed that now there's no difference between uefi or bios
mode. When you boot the live USB, you see the same grub menu.

After many tests, these are the case where the installation has been
successful:

- updating the system directly from Focal (from 20.04 to 20.10)

- creating an EFI partition during manual partitioning.
In this case the partition must be a primary partition.
(One user was able to set the EFI partition on a USB drive... it was not my
case).

- Installing Ubuntu using the "Erase the disk and install Ubuntu.." will also
succeed. EFI partition will be automatically created.
(Also the option "Install Ubuntu next Windows" should work, but there must be
enough space for a primary partition for the EFI).

As reported on bug #1893964 (comment #8), the user was able to install the
system skipping the "grub-install" launching Ubiquity with the command:
ubiquity -b
Then he manually recovered GRUB. I've tried the same, but with no success...
still had problems with efi. The log reported several errors and one of them
was:
## pc systemd[1]: Dependency failed for /boot/efi.
## Subject: L'unità boot-efi.mount è fallita
## Defined-By: systemd
## Support: http://www.ubuntu.com/support

I hope there will be a solution as soon as possible, this is one of the worst
bug ever :(
The only lucky thing is that Ubuntu 20.10 is NOT a LTS... other wise many more
users could have been in trouble.

[Bug 1888598] Re: pulseaudio breaks hdmi audio on sleep/wake in ubuntu 20.10

2020-11-13 Thread Tessa
additional behaviour I've noticed:

on first boot, when the sound device isn't in use for a while, it stops
sending bitstream data to the receiver, until there's a new audio event.
it seems to be some sort of device sleep mode.

on 20.04, after resuming from sleep, this device sleep mode wouldn't
activate again. on 20.10, it activates after sleep, but if it does,
about half the time it breaks the sound output and i have `pulseaudio
-k` to get things back to a usable state.

[Bug 1855318] Re: autofs tries to find .xdg-volume-info and autorun.inf

2020-11-13 Thread Han Vinke
I made a file auto.extra with:

.hidden /.
NAS -fstype=nfs,vers=4,rw,soft,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 :/Download

This way autofs is first loading a directory .hidden which is empty,
which is on purpose.

Now the errors disappear from autofs. I think this is a simple but fine
solution.
In Thunar the folder .hidden is only visible when the option ¨show hidden
files¨ is selected.

See also https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1437754 for more
info over the bug.

[Bug 1901137] Re: UEFI on Legacy - grub-install fails due to no space left on ESP

I know there is not much happening here, but anyone managed to install?
Should I select the /dev/sda6 partition for installing the grub (or
whatever it installs) - it is the partition I keep another Ubuntu
version (besides Windows) or it will mess up booting the laptop? Until
now, on both Ubuntu versions I keep I selected /dev/sda for installing
and worked every time, until 20.10. Thanks!

[Bug 1904235] Re: targetctl hanging

2020-11-13 Thread Robert Collins
I've looked through all the stacks of running processes and can't see
anything that looks tpg / iscsi related present that could be holding
the mutex - at least per
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/818dbde78e0f4f11c9f804c36913a7ccfc2e87ad
- but perhaps the Ubuntu kernel has some patch that affects this.

There are other stuck iscsi processes - thats definitely something going on:

Public bug reported:

[Bug 1903893] Re: [snap] Notifications do not show a custom icon

2020-11-13 Thread Sam Lane
I believe the issue with the Budgie desktop/Raven sidebar might also be
mitigated if Raven was changed to fall back to using the browser's icon
name (google-chrome, chromium, opera, etc). Currently with a snap, it
shows a generic alert icon (not the browser's icon). Probably an issue
to be raised at Solus. Would be nice ultimately to see the website's
notification image, but I understand the sandboxing of a snap makes
things trickier.

[Bug 1818918] Re: gdb doesn't search in debug-file-directory for .gnu_debugaltlink

2020-11-13 Thread Tiago Stürmer Daitx
> 7) Execute "gdb --ex 'file /bin/cat' --ex 'core-file /tmp/cat.core'
--ex 'set debug-file-directory /tmp/dbgsym/usr/lib/debug'"

Try setting the debug-file-directory first, it should work.
gdb --ex 'set debug-file-directory /tmp/dbgsym/usr/lib/debug:/usr/lib/debug'
--ex 'file /bin/cat' --ex 'core-file /tmp/cat.core'

Still, this does not seem to invalidate the original bug report or the
one in comment #4, as they are setting 'file' and 'core' last. It is
just that comment #12 does not seem to indicate a valid reproducer.

@ElTouco72, samba-libs does not depend on ubuntu-desktop. You can

that's a different thing.

[Bug 1903048] Re: [SRU] Bluetooth won't activate on the pi 400

2020-11-13 Thread Iain Lane
The point for me is that we should be trying to avoid taking on
indefinite technical debt (patches that have to be rebased forever).
It's "fine" to include them ahead of any upstream schedule if we need to
for hardware enablement, but we do need to have plans to make this be a
non permanent situation. That's what Seb is asking for, and I'm totally
on board with that.

btw, I don't think it's fair to characterise code review as pedantry

[Bug 1880596] Re: [Focal regression] On-screen keyboard (OSK) does not appear on touch under Xorg on convertible laptops in tablet mode when physical keyboard disabled

2020-11-13 Thread Mario Vukelic
@albertvaka

I realize it stopped working for me as well, 20.04 with mutter
3.36.6-1ubuntu0.20.04.2
Still same machine as in above posts, Dell XPS 9575 2-in-1

No idea if same problem reappeared or it's an entirely new one

[Bug 1611737] Re: Can't upgrade from a release if ros packages are installed from ROS servers

2020-11-13 Thread Kyle Fazzari
Note that upgrades to a given release uses the upgrader from that
release. As a result, there's no need to SRU this to Xenial, since
Xenial-to-Bionic upgrades will use the one from Bionic.

** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu Xenial)
   Status: Confirmed => Won't Fix
