[Bug 1904819] Re: gnome-shell uses 100% cpu when screen blanked

2020-11-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Your system log is certainly full of a lot of
messages so it's easy to believe you might have high CPU too. But I
can't tell what part of gnome-shell they came from.

Since so many bugs are caused by extensions, and nobody else is
reporting this issue, the first thing we need to check is all:

'alternate-...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'dash-to-
d...@micxgx.gmail.com', 'screenshot-window-sizer@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'gsconn...@andyholmes.github.io'

Please uninstall or just disable all of them in the Extensions app, then
log out and log in again. Does the problem still occur? If so then it
might be this:

[Bug 1903524] Re: System state with 'space' in name prevent update-grub to create menu entries in grub.cfg

2020-11-18 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Some characters are not supported in snapshot names by either zfs, grub or
init. As a consequence a system cannot be reverted to a snapshot created with
such characters, and the system fails to boot with various errors.
+
+ This patch forces the name of snapshot created with zsysctl to the
+ following characters: a-z, A-Z, 0-9, _, -, .
+
+ Space is not unsupported by ZFS and would be perfectly correct to create
+ a snapshot with a space in it. However it creates issues in GRUB when it
+ generates the boot command line due to the way it quotes the argument
+ root= by adding a double before root which is then wrongly interpreted
+ by init. It also creates issues in init which uses for loop to read the
+ command line and splits it on spaces, and in the middle of the root
+ argument while it should be a single argument. Fixing space handling in
+ GRUB and init is really intrusive and beyond the scope of this bug so we
+ decided to prevent spaces too in snapshot names.
+
  [Test Case]
  1. Boot a system with zsys without the patch

  * Positive test *
  2. Create a system snapshot with a valid character. Valid characters are
"a-z", "A-Z", "0-9", "_", "-", "." Name must not start by . or -
  => Verify that the snapshot is created successfully
  3. Reboot to the grub menu and in the history menu select the snapshot you
just created.
  => Verify that the system boot to the reverted state of the snapshot

  * Negative test 1*
  4. Create a snapshot with an invalid character.
  => Verify that the creation fails with an error message listing the invalid
character/s

  * Negative test 2*
  5. Create a snapshot that starts with '-'
  => Verify that the snapshot cannot be created.

  * Negative test 3*
  5. Create a snapshot names '.' or '..'
  => Verify that the snapshot cannot be created.
+
+ [Regression potential]
+ If filtering is not done properly the patch can either:
+ 1. prevent supported characters to be used in snapshot names but snapshots
can still be created and names generated by auto snapshots are supported.
+ 2. allow unsupported characters to be used in snapshot names. In this case we
are back to current situation.
+
+ The patch is covered by several tests in the included test suite.
+

I'm unsure how to deal with this. It is an ICE, and it happened
throughout the RTL stage as before. But the signature seems to be a
different one.

It could be "bad" with the actual issue we look for hidden behind this.
It could be "good" as well with the actual issue we look fixed but hidden
behind this.
Or it could be "bad" as in, this is the same issue but with a different
signature.

For the time being I'll handle it as bad, with some luck we get our old
trace back further down the bisect. But @Doko please have a look at the
trace above (maybe it is a known one) and advise.

2020-11-18 Thread John Smith
Is there a way to push fix into groovy kernel branch myself? This bug
makes system unbootable on plenty of CPUs with eDRAM.

I swapped from the r8169 driver to r8168 for stability, but as time has

And so on. Occurs when the network interface is busy with multiple
connections. With a single busy connection it seems to work fine.
Multiple connections work fine when things are not busy.

[Bug 402892] Re: Mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag and drop" mode

2020-11-18 Thread Ploni Almoni
I discovered a way to consistently trigger this. I don't know if all
these steps are necessary, but it works for me consistently this way.

Configuration:
- Ubuntu MATE 20.10
- caja version 1.24.0
- Evolution version 3.38.1-1

Steps to Reproduce:
1. In Evolution, open the 'Compose Message' window. I have it set by default to
'Plain Text' editing mode, and attachment bar collapsed.
2. Open caja and navigate to the desired file.
3. drag & drop the file in the message body. This should result in the full
file path URI being displayed as the message.
4. press `CTRL+Z` (Undo).
5. Now drag the same file again, over the message body, into the (collapsed)
attachment bar.
6. Your mouse should now be stuck in DND mode, requiring `pkill caja` to
release it.

Looks like an assertion failure so this is probably bug 1861609. Please
try installing the debug symbols to see if that clarifies the situation
next time it crashes.

[Bug 1899152] Re: [intel G33] Resolution limited to 1024x768

2020-11-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like the system can't get the screen resolution information
from the monitor over the VGA connection. This might be a connection
problem or it might be a kernel bug.

Please:

1. Run this command:

   grep . /sys/class/drm/*/modes > drmmodes.txt

   and attach the resulting text file here.

2. Try a different VGA cable if you can find one.

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1449 but that one
may never be noticeable so may not be the issue you describe.

If you experience leaks then remove any extensions you have installed.
If the problem keeps happening after that then open a new bug by
running:

[Bug 1904807] [NEW] Raspberry Pi libs check fails kernel version

2020-11-18 Thread Adam Goryachev
Public bug reported:

The standard libs check when running on Raspberry Pi (this seems to work on
amd64) fails the kernel version check for two reasons. The first is known
(permissions on the image file), but the second seems to be a difference in the
way the kernel test results are provided.
Specifically, based on my looking at the perl code, I think this is the command
run to collect the information:
strings vmlinuz-5.8.0-1007-raspi | egrep ^5.8.0-1007-raspi\|"^Linux version"
Linux version 5.8.0-1007-raspi (buildd@bos02-arm64-039) (gcc (Ubuntu
10.2.0-13ubuntu1) 10.2.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.35.1) #10-Ubuntu
SMP PREEMPT Thu Nov 5 17:52:40 UTC 2020 (Ubuntu 5.8.0-1007.10-raspi 5.8.14)
5.8.0-1007-raspi SMP preempt mod_unload aarch64
5.8.0-1007-raspi
5.8.0-1007-raspi

The problem seems to be on the first line, where after the expected version
string, is an extra " (Ubuntu 5.8.0-1007.10-raspi 5.8.14)" text.
Editing the libs file as follows seems to solve the problem for me:
--- libs2020-11-19 02:07:12.716041097 +
+++ libs.local  2020-11-19 02:05:20.625963787 +
@@ -104,7 +104,7 @@
 "$newest_kernel_image. Can't check kernel
version!\n\n");
 }
 } else {
-if ($kernel_image_version =~ /^(Linux version
)?\Q$running_kernel_release\E \(.*\) \Q$running_kernel_version\E$/) {
+if ($kernel_image_version =~ /^(Linux version

 $bb->color_line('green',
 sprintf("Newest kernel is running: %s, version
%s\n\n",
 $running_kernel_release,

Alternatively, adding .* before the $ would also resolve this issue. I'm
not sure how to collect and repeat the other version information to
resolve this, nor how this might affect other platforms, so the above
seems to be the simplest solution (to just ignore any extraneous text)
that should work on any platform that it worked on before.

Adam

[Bug 1904797] Re: geoipupdate fails with 40` HTML error

2020-11-18 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Robert,

Hopefully helpful: "Note that for geoipupdate versions less than 2.5.0,
use UserId instead of AccountID and ProductIds instead of EditionIDs."

https://dev.maxmind.com/geoip/geoipupdate/

Was this working on a previous version and need to be changed to reflect
the new names of parameters in the new version?

Thanks

Public bug reported:

please provide firmware file for riscv64

I'm not sure which package should ship it, or what it should look like, but i
want something like this:

qemu-system-riscv64 -machine virt -m 2048 -smp 4 -kernel
/usr/lib/riscv64-linux-gnu/opensbi/generic/fw_jump.elf -device
loader,file=/usr/lib/u-boot/qemu-riscv64_smode/uboot.elf,addr=0x8020
-device virtio-blk-device,drive=vda -drive file=livecd.ubuntu-
cpc.img,id=vda -device virtio-net-device,netdev=eth0 -netdev
user,id=eth0

such that on riscv64 opensbi loader is available as firmware, with qemu smode
uboot.elf.

I don't know how to write the appropriate qmeu/firmware/*.json for it.

[Bug 1904269] Re: Apply full upgrade - fails with no error message

2020-11-18 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
That is correct Walter..initially I only saw this on Lubuntu as I had at
that point not tested the other flavors..actually that is the main
reason I looked at them as well. After seeing that also on Budgie I
expected I would need to refile but was not sure what package would be
appropriate.

Also not 100% sure this is still the case with Lubuntu as the last 2
days no updates were available after installing the latest ISO's. Will
test this further in the A.M.

I found it does work if I bootstrap with --enable-checking=yes,extra,
flip ENABLE_RTL_CHECKING to 1 in auto-host.h, and then recompile
insn-extract.c. But it does take a large amount of VM:

phase parsing  :  51.10 ( 27%)  43.64 ( 74%)  94.74

This used to work “a while ago” but I don't know when it stopped.

The file has 9975 lines, 435KiB, but that's a bairn compared to some
of the stuff we kick out. Perhaps it's just the sheer number of
(nested) XEXP macro expansions?

servers and OVMF/EDK2 VMs).

Unfortunately, the image used doesn't matter in this case. This is
network booting and MAAS only has a single grub2 binary used for
everything that's booting from it.

[Bug 1872504] Re: date modified is wrong for files on an exfat formatted drive

2020-11-18 Thread Sebastian Gürtler
... sorry, I never worked with repositories...

may someone check this:

https://code.launchpad.net/~arter97/+archive/ubuntu/exfat-dev
exfat-dkms - 5.8~2arter97~ubuntu20.04.1 (maybe also in the other versions?)

in the file misc.c:
void exfat_get_entry_time(struct exfat_sb_info *sbi, struct timespec64 *ts,
u8 tz, __le16 time, __le16 date, u8 time_cs)
{
u16 t = le16_to_cpu(time);
u16 d = le16_to_cpu(date);

ts->tv_sec = mktime64(1980 + (d >> 9), d >> 5 & 0x000F, d & 0x001F,
  t >> 11, (t >> 5) & 0x003F, (t & 0x001F) << 1);

...
shouldn't it be in line 82/83
ts->tv_sec = mktime64(1980 + (d >> 9), ((d >> 5) - 1) & 0x000F, d &
0x001F,
  t >> 11, (t >> 5) & 0x003F, (t & 0x001F) << 1);

???

as month is given from 0-11 as far as i know, but in exfat from 1-12
(https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/fileio/exfat-
specification#748-timestamp-fields).

(other way round seems to be correct in lines 108-110:
time64_to_tm(ts->tv_sec, 0, );
t = (tm.tm_hour << 11) | (tm.tm_min << 5) | (tm.tm_sec >> 1);
d = ((tm.tm_year - 80) <<  9) | ((tm.tm_mon + 1) << 5) | tm.tm_mday;
)

may someone check and fix this, as I don't know how.

[Bug 1872504] Re: date modified is wrong for files on an exfat formatted drive

2020-11-18 Thread Sebastian Gürtler
The error occurs even without writing to the hard disk. I didn't find the exact
procedure to reproduce the error, it seems to happen during mounting or
unmounting, maybe only from nautilus, but even in this case I don't have the
changes of the date any time. The Date doesn't change by 30 days but 1 month
and there are only some files affected, but repeatedly. Even that not
consistently.
On my hard drive there is only one directory and the subdirectories affected:
unmount + save remove from nautilus/mount automatically via entry in fstab,
listings from terminal, from a single session on Nov 18 2020(!), here only the
files "Fuga.blend1, Materials.blend1, Mixereinstellungen.vmsms" affeced - I
have no idea, what the common feature may be.

[Bug 1904793] [NEW] upower abruptly thinks battery has gone to 1% and hibernates

2020-11-18 Thread Lee Trager
Public bug reported:

Whenever I go on battery after 20-30 minutes upower will very abruptly
think my battery is at 1% and force my laptop to hibernate. This seems
to happen at random times, I've seen it when my battery was reported to
be 90%, 76%, 45%, 25%, etc. If I try to resume Ubuntu locks up forcing
me to hard reset the machine. I suspect this is because upower thinks my
battery is still at 1% when its not. My laptops firmware correctly
reports the battery level and shows that I have plenty of power
remaining. The last few times this happened I kept powertop up which
shows that I do have plenty of power even when upower thinks I have
none. Essentially this makes my laptop unusable on battery.

[Bug 1904791] [NEW] Bionic update: upstream stable patchset 2020-11-18

2020-11-18 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
   The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
   in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
   demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
   by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
   a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
   stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

   upstream stable patchset 2020-11-18

Ported from the following upstream stable releases:
v4.14.204, v4.19.155

   from git://git.kernel.org/

scripts/setlocalversion: make git describe output more reliable
arm64: link with -z norelro regardless of CONFIG_RELOCATABLE

There is your problem. Those headphones do not support HSP 1.6 profile,
only 1.5.

[Bug 1904790] [NEW] Safely remove is causing data loss

2020-11-18 Thread Ritchie Miller
Public bug reported:

In short

When you do "Safely remove" on a removable device like USB stick in
Dolphin file explorer, it does not guarantee you can safely remove it
from the port. It does not wait till true copy completion.

Longer story

I was shocked last weekend when I went to my sister with a USB stick to
show her some photos of mine. We've been watching them and suddenly at
~40% of the slideshow, a message started showing up saying that the TV
can't read the file. The case was for the remaining 60% of the photos.
Sadly we stopped. At home I checked that and indeed the rest of the
files were corrupted.

I tried to replicate this several times:

1. Start copying files to the USB stick (~3.5GB of photos).
2. Wait until copy notification of 100% done.
3. Click "Safely Remove" on USB stick in KDE's Dolphin File Explorer.
4. Remove USB Stick from the port (BOOM! Data loss).

I couldn't believe that, but this behaviour is consistent. At first I
was using a USB stick without a usage LED indicator, so I couldn't say
if it is busy on the hardware level. Then I switched to an old Kingston
USB stick with LED, and after step 3 (Click "Safely Remove" on USB
stick), the usage LED was blinking for a few more minutes!!!

Reason

I've searched the net and this problem seems to be related to how Linux
kernel buffers write operations to removable devices. There are
suggestions out there mostly to reduce dirty_bytes kernel parameter
value, but I think this is not a solution. Giving the user an impression
that now he can safely remove the stick while in reality the copy
process is in progress is a no-go. KDE apparently is being given a false
sign from the kernel that the copy process is completed. But it is
finished only from the shell's perspective. At the point of 100% done
shell notification, it has just been fully moved to write cache. Then
the kernel writes it slowly at real USB stick transfer speed to true
completion. That is my understanding.

Temporary solution

The only solution I have found for now that works is the sync command.
Before pulling out the USB stick, just call sync in the command line.
That flushes all the buffers and waits until truly done. I confirmed
that with the usage LED indicator on my Kingston stick. The LED stopped
blinking right after the sync command returned.

Solution

That is the task to do. Please fix this issue as this is a very basic,
common use case of the file explorer.

2020-11-18 Thread Davide Pessina
Yes, that’s the point

I’m try to use JBL T450BT

These are the available specs on official site

Control and Connection Specifications
Bluetooth profilesHFP v1.5, HSP v1.2, A2DP v1.2, AVRCP v1.4
Bluetooth frequency2.402GHz-2.48GHz
Bluetooth transmitted modulationGFSK,π/4DQPSK, 8DPSK
Bluetooth transmitter power0-4 d

I don’t find mSBC information, so it’s supposed they don’t support mSBC

What about Sony WH-CH700? They seems to support mSBC, but who knows.. :(

[Bug 1904789] [NEW] [snap] Cannot confirm security exception

2020-11-18 Thread Johan
Public bug reported:

Note: This bug is specific to the Snap version of Thunderbird, I can't
reproduce it with the Ubuntu-packaged version for example (which I have
installed on Ubuntu, used for multiple years and stopped using recently
to get the more recent versions of TB available with Snap).

When a certificate problem arrises with a server from which Thunderbird
tries to retrieve emails, the "Add Security Exception" window gives you
the option to "Confirm Security Exception" (meaning that Thunderbird
will overlook the invalid certificate).

The problem is that nothing happens when I click the "Confirm Security
Exception" button. I've tried the usual workarounds, including removing
the email account and adding it again, to no avail.

The peculiar thing here is that I have had certificate problems before,
when using a non-snap version of Thunderbird, and clicking the "Confirm
Security Exception" button has always worked. Not with the Snap version
it seems.

[Bug 1904230] Re: System freeze after logging onto desktop session

2020-11-18 Thread jon bird
'journalctl -b -1' comes back with:
 Specifying boot ID has no effect, no persistent journal was found

I'm assuming though you're after the boot log for the previous session
(that froze) so I've manually extracted this from /var/log/syslog in the
attached archive (prevboot.txt).

Unfortunately nothing new was added to /var/crash as a result of the
freeze.

Something additional to mention which may be related (given it's display
related), I had to reboot the machine a couple of times to get this as
it seemingly had issues starting the display manager. Visually the
display kept flicking between the boot log and another one with some
further logging info. The graphical login screen was never displayed.
Syslog was showing messages as follows:

Nov 18 19:58:57 monolith systemd[1]: Starting LXDE Display Manager...
Nov 18 19:58:57 monolith systemd[1]: Started LXDE Display Manager.
Nov 18 19:59:02 monolith systemd[1]: lxdm.service: Main process exited,

scheduling restart.
Nov 18 19:59:03 monolith systemd[1]: Stopped LXDE Display Manager.

Only fix was to reboot it. I've attached the boot log for this one as
'prevboot1.txt'. This problem happened on two different boots.

  The above scripts are common shutdown scripts that can be found on the
  web, utilizing an NO pushbutton connected to GPIO 26 and ground
  (physical 37). None of the above scripts work though, since the internal
  pull-up resistors don't seem to work, and the GPIOs always read LOW. My
  setup has been tested twice in Raspberry Pi OS (the resistors worked
  there, measured with a scope). gpiozero uses rpi.gpio as the pin
  factory. A different pin was tested too.

+ UPDATE: The pip3 version of RPi.GPIO (and gpiozero) works fine.

[Bug 1901074] Re: [SRU] Enable some arm64 performance optimizations already available for other architectures

2020-11-18 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
I created a Focal and Groovy VMs, enabled proposed, and installed
ruby2.7 from there. I was able to re-run the benchmarks and get a
similar result as the one obtained in the experiment presented in the
bug description.

[Bug 1903849] Re: vim ftbfs

2020-11-18 Thread Balint Reczey
The failure I see is:

...
Failures:
From test_popupwin.vim:
Found errors in Test_popup_drag_termwin():
Run 1:
...

I've rebuilt Debian's version and it did not show the same failure.
It looks like to be caused by the disabled mouse support.

[Bug 1899824] Re: Internal pull-up resistors not working

2020-11-18 Thread MinePro120
** Summary changed:

- RPi.GPIO doesn't detect falling edge (wait_for_edge,  add_event_detect)
+ Internal pull-up resistors not working

** Description changed:

  Consider the 3 following scripts :

  1~
  #!/bin/python3

  from gpiozero import Button
  import time
  import os

  stopButton = Button (17)

  while True:
   if stopButton.is_pressed:
   os.system ("sudo shutdown now -h")
   time.sleep (1)
  exit (1)
  2
  #!/bin/python3

  import RPi.GPIO as GPIO
  import os
  import time
  from threading import Thread

  GPIO.setwarnings (False)
  GPIO.setmode (GPIO.BCM)
  shutdown_pin = 26
  GPIO.setup (shutdown_pin, GPIO.IN, pull_up_down=GPIO.PUD_UP)

  def shutdown_check():
  while True:
  pulsetime = 1
  GPIO.wait_for_edge (shutdown_pin, GPIO.FALLING)
  print ("falling detected")
  time.sleep (0.01)
  while GPIO.input (shutdown_pin) == GPIO.LOW:
  time.sleep (0.01)
  pulsetime += 1
  if pulsetime >=2 and pulsetime <=3:
  os.system ("sudo reboot")
  elif pulsetime >=4 and pulsetime <=5:
  os.system ("sudo shutdown now -h")
  try:
  t1 = Thread (target = shutdown_check)
  t1.start ()
  except:
  t1.stop ()
  GPIO.cleanup ()
  exit (0)
  3
  #!/bin/python3

  import RPi.GPIO as GPIO
  import time
  import os

  GPIO.setmode (GPIO.BCM)
  GPIO.setup (17, GPIO.IN, pull_up_down = GPIO.PUD_UP)

  def Shutdown (channel):
  print ("Shutting down...")
  os.system ("echo $(date) >> shutdown.log")
  time.sleep (3)
  os.system ("sudo shutdown now -h")
  exit (0)

  GPIO.add_event_detect (17, GPIO.FALLING, callback = Shutdown,
  bouncetime=2000)

  while 1:
  time.sleep (1)
  exit (1)
  ~

  The above scripts are common shutdown scripts that can be found on the
  web, utilizing an NO pushbutton connected to GPIO 26 and ground
- (physical 37). None of the above scripts work though, since a falling
- edge is never detected. My setup has been tested and actually, the 1st
- script was working properly on Raspberry Pi OS a few weeks ago (before
- switching to Ubuntu) and the other 2 were never tested on Raspberry Pi
- OS. gpiozero uses rpi.gpio as the pin factory. A different pin was
- tested too.
+ (physical 37). None of the above scripts work though, since the internal
+ pull-up resistors don't seem to work, and the GPIOs always read LOW. My
+ setup has been tested twice in Raspberry Pi OS (the resistors worked
+ there, measured with a scope). gpiozero uses rpi.gpio as the pin
+ factory. A different pin was tested too.
