[Bug 1900642] Re: sssd won't start

2020-12-09 Thread Timo Aaltonen
I'm thinking that enabling socket activation was a mistake, as no other
distro I know of (besides Debian etc) do that. It also requires patching
adcli and freeipa to not put "services = ..." line on the sssd.conf or
it would fail to start.

I've uploaded 2.4.0-1 to unstable and probably will drop socket
activation in the next upload well before bullseye is frozen.

[Bug 1907536] [NEW] Please update zhmcclient package to latest level

The current zhmcclient package is at version 0.22.0-0ubuntu2, but upstream is
at 0.27.0:

To benefit from the latest functions and fixes, bumping the package to
the latest version would be great.

[Bug 1890435] Re: gcc-10 breaks on armhf (flaky): internal compiler error: Segmentation fault

2020-12-09 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
As mentioned before - I didn't trust this result.
And with "likeliness" of this being so low we all know that results are
unreliable.
Due to that now r10-6822 is

r10-6822 - bad 2 of 67

The signature was the same "add_regs_to_insn_regno_info (lra)" as before
on (again) different places tcg/tcg.c:2180 and fpu/softfloat.c:7133.

What to do from here ...
We could bisect again starting with r10-6822 and 20190425 and use at least like
100 runs each.
But that would be a last resort as I'm on ~1run/h which means ~4 days each step.

I have a few "maybe we are lucky" things to try first:
- 10.2.1-1 in hirsute
- trunk gcc-r11-5879.tar.xz
- Doing a run with -O1

[Bug 1906128] Re: Touchpad not detected on ByteSpeed C15B laptop

2020-12-09 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Patch applied upstream:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/a48491c65b513e5cdc3e7a886a4db915f848a5f5

And submitted for ubuntu kernels:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2020-December/115501.html

** Description changed:

- Touchpad hardware is OK and works for Win10. Not working for live disc,
- not for 18.04 and not for 20.04 after upgrading. I've attached a
- Logitech wireless mouse with its USB adapter and that works. Bluetooth
- is also missing, but I have not started trying to skull that out. I'm
- happy to help try debugging things, and to help resolve the issue.
+ [Impact]
+ Touchpad on a ByteSpeed C15B laptop is not working.
+ User will need to add i8042.noloop=1 to boot options to make it work.
+
+ [Fix]
+ * a48491c65b513e ("Input: i8042 - add ByteSpeed touchpad to noloop table")
+
+ This fix can be cherry-picked into all affected releases.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Test kernel for Bionic / Focal can be found here:
+
+ And they have been tested with positive test results.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ The fix is just a small and simple hardware quirk. I can't think of any
potential problem for now.

[Bug 1907468] Re: visual studio code crashes gnome-shell on Ubuntu 20.10

2020-12-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1874939] Re: ceph-osd can't connect after upgrade to focal

2020-12-09 Thread Trent Lloyd
This issue appears to be documented here:
https://docs.ceph.com/en/latest/releases/nautilus/#instructions

Complete the upgrade by disallowing pre-Nautilus OSDs and enabling all
new Nautilus-only functionality:

# ceph osd require-osd-release nautilus
Important This step is mandatory. Failure to execute this step will make it
impossible for OSDs to communicate after msgrv2 is enabled.

[Bug 1907510] Re: Apt-get upgrade fails with checksum errors

2020-12-09 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1907510/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1900642] Re: sssd won't start

2020-12-09 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
I finally had some time to do some investigation on this bug. I
appreciate the analysis done by others, and the patch provided by
Dimitri.

I verified that using ConditionPathExists on sssd.service does prevent
sssd from starting (as expected), which means that the error messages in
the log are gone.

sssd has a lot of services and socket-activated units associate with it,
but all of them are ultimately bound (via systemd's BindsTo and After
directives) to sssd.service, which means that they will not start unless
sssd.service also starts. As such, and to avoid redundancy, I think it
is better to modify only sssd.service. This has the "downside" that the
user will still see warning messages (not errors) in the logs, like:

Dec 09 18:44:29 focal-desktop systemd[1]: sssd-nss.socket: Bound to unit
sssd.service, but unit isn't active.
Dec 09 18:44:29 focal-desktop systemd[1]: Dependency failed for SSSD NSS

Service responder socket.
Dec 09 18:44:29 focal-desktop systemd[1]: sssd-sudo.socket: Job
sssd-sudo.socket/start failed with result 'dependency'.

I think this is fine, though, because, as I said above, these are just
warnings.

I am going to prepare an upload with the systemd change mentioned above,
and will perform more tests to verify that everything works OK.
Hopefully I will be able to upload a fix to Hirsute until this Friday,
and prepare an SRU for Groovy next week.

[Bug 1675079] Re: 16.04 LTS Partition /boot fills up with Kernel images, gets underwear in a twist

2020-12-09 Thread private_lock
I'm hitting two distinct errors here:

1) Accepting the updates from the GUI-notification, all my kernels over
the past months get marked as "manual" - though I have the strong
feeling, they should be automatic and only kept until superseded by jet
more updates:

linux-image-5.4.0-54-generic

2) Trying to mark an old kernel as "auto" will still not *MANUALLY*
"autoremove":
root@Meerschweinchen:/boot# sudo apt-mark auto linux-image-5.4.0-51-generic
linux-image-5.4.0-51-generic wurde bereits auf automatisch installiert gesetzt.
root@Meerschweinchen:/boot# apt-mark showauto 'linux-image-.*'

[Bug 1906668] Re: [MIR] opensbi

2020-12-09 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Required TODOs:
- embedded libfdt is outdated and well, embedded. Please build and link
against the libfdt1 / libfdt-dev that is in main.

Cannot do =)

opensbi is firmware. It runs in a different RISC-V mode - machine, not
user. This code is compiled freestanding, without pic/pie, without stack
protection, and without requirement to have libc. One can notice that
there is an libfdt_env.h header to remap functions that look like
standard ones (memcpy and the like).

It would be nice if I could build-depend on libfdt-dev source package +
built-using. That way any CVEs would leave enough breadcrumbs to follow.

But this is no different to how grub2 vendorizes lzo, gcrypt, and a few
other things. All of which is rebuilt freestanding. So at best I can
notify security team to add an embedded source copy mapping.

W.r.t. being out of date I see that upstream did import 1.5.1 but not
1.6.0. I can work with them to update to 1.6.0 at least.

Maybe this is because I'm running Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy and you built
LibreOffice for 21.04 Hirsuite. Will I need to install a 21.04 daily

me to download and test it?

[Bug 1785262] Re: arm64 autopkgtests are flaky

2020-12-09 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
This issue is not restricted to arm* but have been seen occasionally on amd64.
It effects the binary package build too, where these tests are part of "make
check".

There are a lot tests disabled in
'sw/qa/uitest/writer_dialogs/openDialogs.py' for similar reasons.

So while it locks up at "test_21_.uno:EditGlossary (openDialogs.openDialogs)
... " I would give that a try:

[Bug 1899180] Please test proposed package

2020-12-09 Thread Robie Basak
Hello Balint, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libvirt into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/4.0.0-1ubuntu8.18 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1907509] [NEW] Screen Tearing Compiz Unity Nvidia Intel hybrid integrated

2020-12-09 Thread Hudson Kendall
Public bug reported:

I've tried several solutions to fix screen tearing in 16.04, but nothing
seems to work. Screen tearing is so bad that the display is fragmented
into 2-4 horizontal and diagonal sections during any scrolling event,
along with artifacts while updating the screen in any way, like videos,
new tabs, opening programs, moving windows, etc... This issue started
occurring after a re-installation of libunity-core-6.0-9 and compiz
packages. I attempted to remedy the situation by installing Nvidia
drivers, thinking they might help compared to nouveau, but no change.

[Bug 1907505] [NEW] librust-getopts+std-dev : Depends: librust-rustc-std-workspace-std-1+default-dev but it is not installable

2020-12-09 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

rust-getopts is not migrating because it depends on what appears to be
rust-rustc-std-workspace-std, a source package not present in Debian or
Ubuntu (or in the Debian NEW queue).

Since this is a package which would theoretically be uploaded at some
later date, it doesn't make sense to rust-getopts from the -proposed
queue since it may be migratable without any changes, so instead
documenting here.

A bug should probably be opened against the rust-getopts package in
Debian.

2020-12-09 Thread Russell Morris
> I've not yet seen/reproduced the same on qemu 5.0/edk2 2020.08-1 :-/

So you don't see this issue, or haven't had a chance to check it? No
biggie either way, just trying to understand your comment :-).

> Would you mind outlining your case on the upstream mailing list?

Yes, no issue at all - but should we wait for you to test? If you see
the same issue, NP at all flagging this. But if you don't, then somehow
configuration related?

Thanks!

[Bug 1872476] Re: Shared files are shown as folders

2020-12-09 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
I forgot to mention, but I:

1) Replaced my smb.conf with Lee Tae Hoon's smb.conf, and tried to
reproduce the error. Everything still works for me.

2) Tried moving files (via terminal and using Nautilus) to the share. I
can access them fine.

3) Tried attaching another disk to my Focal VM, format it using XFS, and
creating shares there. I can access the shared and all files normally.

In other words, I still can't reproduce the bug. I'm now waiting on Lee
Tae Hoon's answers to my questions above.

[Bug 1900584] Re: Regression: suspend/wake-up no longer working properly

2020-12-09 Thread craigleat
The display wakes up correctly with 5.4.0-57 and the nouveau driver.
The display wakes up correctly with 5.4.0-47 and the nvidia driver.

It doesn't seem possible to fix the API mismatch with 5.4.0-57 and the nvidia
driver.
linux-generic pulled in the 5.4.0-57 kernel and the 450 nvidia server, but
there is no 450 client available.
A manual install of the 440 server is not possible.
linux-modules-nvidia-440-server-generic depends on
nvidia-kernel-common-440-server and this package does not exist. There is one
named nvidia-kernel-common-440.

[Bug 1907493] Re: wifi network keeps disconnecting

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1907493/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1827452] Re: null pointer dereference in uvcvideo

2020-12-09 Thread Benjamin Burns
For what it's worth, as a dev who's spent plenty of time hacking the
kernel in a prior job, I really appreciate the effort. Hopefully it
won't be completely in vain.

[Bug 1906078] Re: Whoopsie sends bug reports automatically without consent

2020-12-09 Thread Brian Murray
I suspect what happened is the bug documented in bug 1906877, if the
control panel is set to automatic and then back to never the file which
enables automatic reporting is not removed. We are working to resolve
this bug in all affected releases of Ubuntu. Thanks for reporting this
issue and getting us to look into it.

[Bug 1906496] Re: mgr can be very slow in a large ceph cluster

2020-12-09 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hi Pon,

Thanks for clarifying offline that the Openstack/Ceph team is okay with
more than one commit per patch file.

So, on the debdiff 'noise', I've previously seen and usually removed
that stuff; this seems to be due to the packaging not cleaning up files
generated at build time, I guess.

You can use the handy `filterdiff` tool to keep only the files required,
and get a cleaner debdiff:

$ cat debdiff-ceph-13.2.9 | filterdiff -i 'ceph-13.2.9/debian/changelog'
-i 'ceph-13.2.9/debian/patches/*'

This gives us just the required changed files for the usual pattern of
adding a .patch file. :)

Hope this helps,
Mauricio

[Bug 1907056] Re: Please add meta/kernel.yaml

2020-12-09 Thread Michael Vogt
** Description changed:

Snapd will soon support to have DTBs in the kernel snap that are
automatically installed on kernel refreshes. To support this, please add

[Bug 1904419] Re: Upgrade glibc 2.32 by required upstream patches

2020-12-09 Thread Balint Reczey
Regarding the original question we don't automatically follow the
release branches in stable releases especially not in interim releases
which have only 9 months of support.

I'm collecting patches for an upcoming SRU for Focal and Groovy, and the
patches listed here can be included as well, but to go through the SRU
process this bug needs more information. Could you please fill out the
SRU template for the fixes? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

[Bug 1907262] Re: raid10: discard leads to corrupted file system

2020-12-09 Thread Eric Desrochers
For Trusty and Xenial, fstrim is scheduled via cron[0] to run weekly at each
Sunday at 6h47[1].
For Bionic onward, fstrim is scheduled via systemd timer to also run weekly[2]

Impacted users may want to take action before the next scheduled run by
downgrading the running kernel or disabling the fstrim job.

[Trusty and Xenial]
By default, an /etc/cron.weekly/fstrim job is installed, but this may be
supplanted by local modifications.

Check if you are running a cron job which might invoke fstrim:
$ sudo grep -r fstrim /etc/cron*

If an fstrim job is found in the results of the above command, edit the
appropriate file and comment out the command with a “#” at the beginning
of the line to disable the execution of fstrim.

For the default Ubuntu configuration, the command in the
/etc/cron.weekly/fstrim file starts with “/sbin/fstrim” or “exec fstrim-
all” and is the last line of the file.

[Bionic or late]
$ sudo systemctl disable --now fstrim.timer
$ sudo systemctl mask fstrim.service

[0] - /etc/cron.weekly/fstrim
[1] - grep -i weekly /etc/crontab:
[2] - systemctl status fstrim.timer | grep "Trigger:"
