[Bug 1890487] Re: rpi3b+ wifi doesn't get used if ethernet disconnected
** Description changed: + [Impact] + When testing 20.04.1, I noticed some different behavior on rpi3b+ that I didn't see on rpi3b or rpi4. I have configured the device with ethernet, added netplan yaml for my wifi network, and rebooted. So both eth0 and wlan0 have an ip address. On all other devices (rpi3b, rpi4, etc), if I unplug eth0 wile pinging something, I'll miss maybe 1 ping and then it will continue to work and just switch over to wlan0. However, on rpi3b+ it just stops being able to access the network completely. If I re-run netplan apply, it will start using wifi again, but if I plug eth0 back in, then unplug it, it stops just like before. I am seeing this with the current 20.04.1 release: Linux ubuntu 5.4.0-1015-raspi #15-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 10 05:34:24 UTC 2020 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux I also went back and tested the original 20.04 release and it happens there too, so this is not a regression: Linux ubuntu 5.4.0-1008-raspi #8-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 8 11:13:06 UTC 2020 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux I see this happen on both armhf and arm64. One difference I did note, is that I get a link down message in dmesg on rpi3b, but not rpi3b+. When I disconnect eth0 on rpi3b I see this: [ 82.203702] smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0 eth0: link down ...but nothing on the 3b+. + + [Test Case] + + Disconnect and reconnect the eth0 cable. [Bug 1876503] Re: Keyboard input suddenly stops to work, but when i log off and relog it comes back to normal.(I cant use keyboard after the bug happens, but i can do it normaly after log out- log on)
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future users from hitting the same bug. I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709 For example, you provided no clues as to if any keyboard functions work, does it include trying to switch to a text terminal (ctrl+alt+f4), commands given directly to kernel (ie. to kill your GUI, reboot etc). I get the feeling your issue maybe just thrashing, or if you don't have swap enabled, enabling swap may reduce your issue significantly.. These are areas that support can help with, or if they've already been attempted, those issues mentioned as making no change, or issue remains for each thing tried. (depending on how your keyboard is powered; I'd also check your hardware including power-supply) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876503 Title: Keyboard input suddenly stops to work, but when i log off and relog it comes back to normal.(I cant use keyboard after the bug happens, but i can do it normaly after log out- log on) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxqt-config/+bug/1876503/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Has this sort of kernel panic on Azure been seen and what is the root cause and remedy please. Also the kernel logs on the Azure host show it vulnerable to the following CVE. There are other VMs and containers that can run on the Azure host without a kernel panic on it, but providing this info in case there is some tie-in to the panic. https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2018-3646 Kernel panic from the Azure Host console: Microsoft.EnterpriseCloud.Monitoring.OmsAgentForLinux_1.13.33_e857c609-bc35-4b66-9a8b-e86fd8707e82.scope 2020-11-17T00:50:11.537914Z INFO MonitorHandler ExtHandler Stopped tracking cgroup: Microsoft.EnterpriseCloud.Monitoring.OmsAgentForLinux-1.13.33, path: /sys/fs/cgroup/memory/system.slice/Microsoft.EnterpriseCloud.Monitoring.OmsAgentForLinux_1.13.33_e857c609-bc35-4b66-9a8b-e86fd8707e82.scope 2020-11-17T00:50:23.291433Z INFO ExtHandler ExtHandler Checking for agent updates (family: Prod) 2020-11-17T00:51:11.677191Z INFO ExtHandler ExtHandler [HEARTBEAT] Agent WALinuxAgent-2.2.52 is running as the goal state agent [DEBUG HeartbeatCounter: 7;HeartbeatId: 8A2DD5B7-02E5-46E2-9EDB-F8CCBA274479;DroppedPackets: 0;UpdateGSErrors: 0;AutoUpdate: 1] [11218.537937] PANIC: double fault, error_code: 0x0 [11218.541423] Kernel panic - not syncing: Machine halted. [Bug 1908478] [NEW] USB-AC55 not working after kernel update Ubuntu 20.04
Public bug reported: did a new install of ubuntu 20.04 and started with kernel 5.4.0-54-generic. I came from using ubuntu 18.04 which needed to manually compile drivers to use wifi usb adapter and was pleasantly surprised that version 20.04 supported the ASUSTek Computer, Inc. USB-AC55 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wireless Adapter natively. The problem begun when a new kernel was available and upgraded to 5.4.0-56-generic, the networkmanager was not functional and got errors: INFO: task NetworkManager:1171 blocked for more than 120 seconds. Tainted: G OE 5.4.0-56-generic #64-Ubuntu "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message. I thought that maybe on a new kernel release this was going to be addressed, but I upgraded to 5.4.0-58-generic and problem persist. For now I reverted to use kernel 5.4.0-54-generic where the USB-AC55 works. Using Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS. [Bug 1908477] [NEW] Provide this in Ubuntu ISO and install it by default
Public bug reported: Kubuntu 20.10 ISO does not install nor provide this package. This causes bugs when open tries to open documents written using Microsoft Words, which uses Calibri by default, using LibreOffice. By not providing this package, fontconfig substitute Calibri with "Noto Sans". This is not a proper substitution, see: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138923 Please provide this package in the ISO and possibly install it by default to avoid problems for people coming from Windows / collaborating with co-workers using Windows. Workaround: let the recovered node synchronize all exchanges - forbid new connections with iptables rules for some time after failed node gets online (30 sec) Proposal: do not create new exchanges (use default) for all direct messages - this also fixes the issue. Re: [Bug 1904632] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Azure VM host kernel panic
Thanks Dexuan. I realized later and clarified my Q on the thread, suggesting the experiment I mentioned. I have not tried it, but anyway you guys are now zeroing in on the issue. On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, 6:30:48 PM PST, Dexuan Cui <1904...@bugs.launchpad.net> wrote: VM Exit is a term in the Intel CPU's Virtualization support (VMX). It means the execution of the guest CPU is interrupted and the execution "jumps" to some function in the hypervisor; the hypervisor analyzes the reason of the VM Exit, and handles the VM exit properly, and then the execution "jumps" back to wherever the guest CPU was interrupted. Here the issue is: when the Level-2 guest CPU's VM Exit happens, somehow the hypervisor messes up the Level-1 guest's 32-bit related state (i.e. the SYSENTER instruction related state), so later when the 32-bit progarm starts to run, the Level-1 guest kernel crashes due to double-fault. Re: [Bug 1904632] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Azure VM host kernel panic
Hi Dexuan, To clarify my question: What is the cause of the VMexit (ie. trap to the hyperv) in this scenario? It might be worth it to do an experiment and reverse the order of operations i.e. first start the hello program in a loop and THEN start the nested VM via KVM. Then it would be the nested KVM operation causing an expected VMexit which is not handled properly due to the running 32 bit program. Regards,K. [Bug 1908473] [NEW] rsyslog-relp: imrelp module leaves sockets in CLOSE_WAIT state which leads to file descriptor leak
Public bug reported: [Impact] In recent versions of rsyslog and librelp, the imrelp module leaks file descriptors due to a bug where it does not correctly close sockets, and instead, leaves them in the CLOSE_WAIT state. This causes rsyslogd on busy servers to eventually hit the limit of maximum open files allowed, which locks rsyslogd up until it is restarted. A workaround is to restart rsyslogd every month or so to manually close all of the open sockets. Only users of the imrelp module are affected, and not rsyslog users in general. [Testcase] Install the rsyslog-relp module like so: $ sudo apt install rsyslog rsyslog-relp Next, generate a working directory, and make a config file that loads the relp module. $ sudo mkdir /workdir $ cat << EOF >> ./spool.conf \$LocalHostName spool \$AbortOnUncleanConfig on \$PreserveFQDN on global( workDirectory="/workdir" maxMessageSize="256k" ) main_queue(queue.type="Direct") module(load="imrelp") input( type="imrelp" name="imrelp" port="601" ruleset="spool" MaxDataSize="256k" ) ruleset(name="spool" queue.type="direct") { } # Just so rsyslog doesn't whine that we do not have outputs ruleset(name="noop" queue.type="direct") { action( type="omfile" name="omfile" file="/workdir/spool.log" ) } EOF Verify that the config is valid, then start a rsyslog server. $ sudo rsyslogd -f ./spool.conf -N9 $ sudo rsyslogd -f ./spool.conf -i /workdir/rsyslogd.pid Fetch the rsyslogd PID and check for open files. $ RLOGPID=$(cat /workdir/rsyslogd.pid) $ sudo ls -l /proc/$RLOGPID/fd total 0 lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Dec 17 01:22 0 -> /dev/urandom lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Dec 17 01:22 1 -> 'socket:[41228]' lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Dec 17 01:22 3 -> 'socket:[41222]' lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Dec 17 01:22 4 -> 'socket:[41223]' lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Dec 17 01:22 7 -> 'anon_inode:[eventpoll]' We have 3 sockets open by default. Next, use netcat to open 100 connections: $ for i in {1..100} ; do nc -z 127.0.0.1 601 ; done Now check for open file descriptors, and there will be an extra 100 sockets in the list: $ sudo ls -l /proc/$RLOGPID/fd https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/f6NQVNbZcR/ We can check the state of these sockets with: $ ss -t https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/7Ts2FbxJrg/ The listening sockets will be in CLOSE-WAIT, and the netcat sockets will be in FIN-WAIT-2. If you install the test package available in the following ppa: https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf299578-test When you open connections with netcat, these will be closed properly, and the file descriptor leak will be fixed. [Where problems could occur] If a regression were to occur, it would be limited to users of the imrelp module, which is a part of the rsyslogd-relp package, and depends on librelp. rsyslog-relp is not part of a default installation of rsyslog, and is opt in by changing a configuration file to enable imrelp. The changes to rsyslog implement a testcase which exercises the problematic code to ensure things are working as expected, and should run during autopkgtest time. [Bug 1907714] Re: getmailrc: socket error ([SSL: WRONG_VERSION_NUMBER] wrong version number (_ssl.c:727))
I noticed that cURL gives a "wrong ssl version" type of error when the scheme of an URL is "smtps://"; fixed by removing the 2nd "s", giving "smtp://" (even though it's still an SSL connection). It's bizarre. Perhaps it's a long shot, but if getmail is in some way internally forming an URL scheme of "pop3s://", it might be worth a look particularly if cURL libs are used. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1907714 Title: getmailrc: socket error ([SSL: WRONG_VERSION_NUMBER] wrong version number (_ssl.c:727)) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/getmail/+bug/1907714/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1908471] [NEW] [TGL] Thermald user space package support
Public bug reported: [Feature Description] Thermal issues are important to handle proactively to reduce performance impact. The project provides a Linux user mode daemon to system developers, reducing time to market with controlled thermal management using P-states, T-states, and the Intel power clamp driver. The Thermal Daemon uses the existing Linux kernel infrastructure and can be easily enhanced. Who It’s For The project is for system developers who want to enable application developers and their customers with the responsive and flexible thermal management, supporting optimal performance in desktop, clamshell, mobile and embedded devices. git repo:https://github.com/intel/thermal_daemon ubuntu repo:https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thermald Target Version: 2.4.1 Target Release: 21.04 [HW/SW Information] Tiger Lake Client platform [Business Justification] Function enabling ** Affects: intel Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Committed ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: intel-21.04-upkg ** Tags added: intel-21.04-upkg ** Also affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908471 Title: [TGL] Thermald user space package support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/intel/+bug/1908471/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1904632] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Azure VM host kernel panic
VM Exit is a term in the Intel CPU's Virtualization support (VMX). The investigation is still ongoing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1904632 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 Azure VM host kernel panic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-azure/+bug/1904632/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1908469] [NEW] Cannot install .deb packages opened from Firefox
Public bug reported: Suppose in Firefox you click a link to a .deb package. A dialog named "Opening [filename].deb" opens. If you select "Open with", then the .deb file is downloaded, placed in /tmp/mozilla_[username]0/ directory, then Software Install (as named in the Firefox dialog) is started on that .deb file. Next, Software Install loads and fails with "Failed to install file: not supported". If on the other hand, in Firefox's "Opening [filename].deb" dialog, if I select "Save File" instead, the .deb file ends up in the user's Downloads directory. Software Install works fine with the package there. I don't want to get too much into solutioning or "why". The main point of this bug is that I should not get a weird error just because I selected "Open with" instead of "Save File". This happens with a vanilla install of Ubuntu, with nothing else installed, so the product isn't working in an intuitive way. [Bug 1908459] [NEW] Dolphin extremely slow to start on Raspberry Pi
Public bug reported: Dolphin takes ~7+ seconds to start after launch. It appears to be spinning on scanning for DRI devices. It is not io bound or cpu bound, it's just doing a lot of scanning of the file system for what appears to be rendering devices (out of my element here) and it REALLY shows up as a delay on a pi device. This is a 4b with 8 gig of ram and I can verify that this behavior is not in debian stable but is present in debian testing (when I shoehorned it in on, lol), and from what I can tell, the same thing happens on my x86 machines, but they're just so fast in comparison that this doesn't show up. Strace logs are attached. I also reported this directly to the KDE team (not ubuntu) as I'm not sure if this is a software or setup thing.
