[Bug 1910961] [NEW] Let user choose browser to install / Remove fixed firefox dependency
Public bug reported: Hi, I know this is a really core feature of a distribution, and I'm not sure it's the best place to open this discussion, but I'd like to open the idea to have the possibility that the user can choose not to install firefox by default, or even better let the user choose his browser at installation time. Why people would want not to use firefox by default ? * It's been lagging in speed and stability compared to other browser. I've often have some tabs crash, I have to open a new tab copy/pasting the same URL. * Mozilla was advertising a advocate for free speech and internet neutrality. Many people would have different views on this, but latest message from their blog seems they support content being pushed to users "Turn on by default the tools to amplify factual voices over disinformation" ** https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2021/01/08/we-need-more-than-deplatforming/ ** https://twitter.com/mozilla/status/1347633954497548289 * Third-party cookie is still being a thing. It's something that should have been removed since a long time already, and a push to remove its support is actually being pushed by Apple/Safari and Google/Chrome, and not so actively by Mozilla. There are alternative full opensource browser that user would like to have by default. ** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910961 Title: Let user choose browser to install / Remove fixed firefox dependency To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1910961/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This new fix should help: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/commit/f0a9ec0519 It's basically what I was hoping for in comment #26, but an additional fix was required. [Bug 1909062] Re: qede: Kubernetes Internal DNS Failure due to QL41xxx NIC not supporting IPIP tx csum offload
** Description changed: BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1909062 [Impact] For users with QLogic QL41xxx series NICs, such as the FastLinQ QL41000 Series 10/25/40/50GbE Controller, when they upgrade from the 4.15 kernel to the 5.4 kernel, Kubernetes Internal DNS requests will fail, due to these packets getting corrupted. Kubernetes uses IPIP tunnelled packets for internal DNS resolution, and this particular packet type is not supported for hardware tx checksum offload, and the packets end up corrupted when the qede driver attempts to checksum them. This only affects internal Kubernetes DNS, as regular DNS lookups to regular external domains will succeed, due to them not using IPIP packet types. [Fix] Marvell has developed a fix for the qede driver, which checks the packet type, and if it is IPPROTO_IPIP, then csum offloads are disabled for socket buffers of type IPIP. commit 5d5647dad259bb416fd5d3d87012760386d97530 Author: Manish Chopra Date: Mon Dec 21 06:55:30 2020 -0800 Subject: qede: fix offload for IPIP tunnel packets - Link: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net.git/commit/?id=5d5647dad259bb416fd5d3d87012760386d97530 + Link: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/5d5647dad259bb416fd5d3d87012760386d97530 - This commit is currently in the netdev tree, awaiting merge to mainline. - The commit is queued for upstream stable. + This commit landed in mainline in 5.11-rc3. The commit is queued for + upstream stable. [Testcase] The system must have a QLogic QL41xxx series NIC fitted, and needs to be a part of a Kubernetes cluster. Firstly, get a list of all devices in the system: $ sudo ifconfig Next, set all devices down with: $ sudo ifconfig down Next, bring up the QLogic QL41xxx device: $ sudo ifconfig up Then, attempt to lookup an internal Kubernetes domain: $ nslookup Without the patch, the connection will time out: ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached If we look at packet traces with tcpdump, we see it leaves the source, but never arrives at the destination. There is a test kernel available in the following ppa: https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf297772-test If you install it, then Kubernetes internal DNS lookups will succeed. [Where problems could occur] If a regression were to occur, then users of the qede driver would be affected. This is limited to those with QLogic QL41xxx series NICs. The patch explicitly checks for IPIP type packets, so only those particular packets would be affected. Since IPIP type packets are uncommon, it would not cause a total outage on regression, since most packets are not IPIP tunnelled. It could potentially cause problems for users who frequently handle VPN or Kubernetes internal DNS traffic. A workaround would be to use ethtool to disable tx csum offload for all packet types, or to revert to an older kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1909062 Title: qede: Kubernetes Internal DNS Failure due to QL41xxx NIC not supporting IPIP tx csum offload To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1909062/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1910948] [NEW] SIGSEGV on large displays
Public bug reported: (I submitted an Apport on this - but I don't know how to tie the two together, or where the Apport report went.) When using Eclipse with VNC and VNC server running with a high resolution -geometry (e.g I used 3840x2000) I have regular X server crashes with Eclipse when Eclipse is fullscreen (SIGSEGV in Dispatch()). I tracked down the problem to being an alloca call that was much bigger than the current stack size in ProcShmGetImage in Xvnc/programs/Xserver/Xext/shm.c. In my case I was seeing the length variable requesting about 16MB. I suppose a fix is to change that particular ALLOCATE_LOCAL to a normal malloc (Xmalloc??) or to disable alloca use globally. My workaround was to change the stack size to something much bigger (ulimit -s 5) ** Affects: tightvnc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910948 Title: SIGSEGV on large displays To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tightvnc/+bug/1910948/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1910945] Re: can't upgrade from 19.10
This comment is not bug related (but off-topic support). For help in ensuring you packages are fully upgraded; refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades I don't have access to an eoan/19.10 system, and online package databases are gone (having been EOL too now long), so I can't look up to see if packages are 3rd party or Ubuntu repositories, so I'll just suggest you 'upgrade via re-install'. You can install using "Manual Partitioning", select your existing partition(s) and as long as you don't format, the installer will - note your packages, - erase system directories (user configs for Lubuntu are stored in $HOME or user directory), - install system, - attempt to add-back additional packages you had install (if available in Ubuntu repositories for the new release) - then ask to reboot. Even if you get a warning that some packages could not be restored (this can occur for numerous reasons, eg. a dropped package as it relied on python2, Qt4 or like deprecated toolkit for example), the warning is rarely of concern. If you have any support questions, I'll also provide the Lubuntu links page https://lubuntu.me/links/ (you may find me there too) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910945 Title: can't upgrade from 19.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1910945/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1902801]
Obviously, my own bug report regarding this has been lost. I reported the same problem some weeks ago, and somebody said this problem would be solved with 78.6.0. However, I can definitely confirm that the problem is NOT solved in 78.6.0. @Thunderfan has described exactly what happens. I have tested this under Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 7, each with TB 78.6.0. I am aware that Thunderbird is free software with large parts made by volunteers. However, I would also like to make clear that this is not a low-priority problem and that such a long time to fix it is just not acceptable, even if it's free software. That problem is putting more and more pressure on us with each day it remains unfixed. We are a company which often receives invoices as PGP-encrypted attachments in messages which are not encrypted in whole (only the attachments are encrypted). Since we have upgraded our PCs to TB 78 in the end of last year, not having come to the idea that such a basic and important function would be broken by the update, we have a massive problem in our accounting now. I know other companies and even private persons who also receive invoices and other important, sensitive documents as PGP-encrypted attachment, and suffer similarly. Our current "solution" is that the administrators ask the users to save the attachments in encrypted form, and use GnuPG on the command line to decrypt them, which means using the users' private keys. This whole process is completely not acceptable under various aspects, among them important legal aspects and the EU GDPR. If it doesn't get fixed soon, we'll probably have to switch to Outlook. We definitely won't go back to TB 68 where this was working somehow. So I would be glad if we could get a honest and definitive statement from a developer here. We can really understand if this won't get fixed because it is too difficult, is not of high priority from the developers' point of view, or takes too much time. But then please make a clear statement that you won't fix it in the next time. Once again, that would be fair enough, but please let us know about it. Despite that problem, I'd like to say a big thanks to the development team for all your effort and for providing TB and OpenPGP free of charge. It has been, and still is, a revolution. I forgot to mention that we experience the problem with TB 64 bit. That means that both versions are broken (@Thunderfan confirmed it for the 32-bit version). Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. [Bug 1882418] Re: spamprobe crashes on email containing images
I believe I have corrected the issue. I would propose that this minor patch be tested by others impacted. It seems to clean up the issue by simply adding some missing return codes (and I happened to fix a few types that compiler was complaining about as well). [Bug 1910559] Re: GDM3: Black screen with blinking cursor
It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Package changed: gdm3 (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910559 Title: GDM3: Black screen with blinking cursor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1910559/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1910938] [NEW] Ubuntu don't show text anymore
Public bug reported: Hello [happy new year :) ! ] Text information in the Ubuntu dialogs aren't displayed, or some times just a part of it. I don't see the hours, but i see the icons like Firefox actually opened, my battery etc. and notifications are empty (just the "!" icon). Text normally displayed when mouse-hover the applications icons is not displayed, when Ubuntu ask for my password the frame display only 3 or 4 characters, when i put the computer in standby and reopen it doesn't change anything, and the bullets of my password aren't displayed when i login. The text normally displayed on the menus aren't displayed too, same for the application menu (when hitting the bottom left corner button) and icons of applications (like Discord options on the top right of the screen). The only text from xorg that is displayed (if it's from xorg…) is the window's title (like "#Room - Discord" for Discord application, or "me@computer: ~/" above the terminal). What is left works : Firefox can display text, and text is displayed in settings for example. P.S: a reboot solved the problem. [Bug 1910936] Re: nic card error
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1910936/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. I deliberately picked an LTS, so I'm very surprised that I got a kernel bump that skips three point releases without any warning. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910875 Title: Broadcom wireless driver failed to install with code 10 on focal 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1910875/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1273534] Re: package steam 1:1.0.0.39-2ubuntu1~ubuntu13.10.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 30
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This issue is likely similar to others which are related to the steam license question not being answered, this was dropped in the steam package version 1:1.0.0.54+repack-2ubuntu4 as not all software centre's support it. Therefore I am marking this bug as fix released. [Bug 1679725] Re: s2tc dependency broken on zesty
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 has been removed from later versions of Ubuntu and it has been removed as a dependency in the Ubuntu steam packaging since 1:1.0.0.67-2ubuntu1 (Ubuntu 21.04). [Bug 1873411] Re: steam installs generic Desktop icons for games that require an explicit 'Allow Launching'
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I can reproduce this issue, but I think that is potentially a security feature of the gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons. As if you navigate to the folder in Nautilus, then select open, it allows for running the game and not opening gedit. And I can see that the permissions of the file has been set correctly by Steam. Therefore I am going to reassign this bug from the Steam package to gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons as it doesn't appear that Steam is doing anything incorrectly and it is likely due to the desktop icons implementation (potentially even a security feature). ** Package changed: steam (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell-extension-desktop- icons (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873411 Title: steam installs generic Desktop icons for games that require an explicit 'Allow Launching' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons/+bug/1873411/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1559749] Re: Steam package should add Vulkan compatible AMD or Nvidia as a Recommends package
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. mesa-vulkan-drivers was added as a recommends for Debian packaging as of version 1.0.0.56-2 and therefore to the Ubuntu packaging as of version 1:1.0.0.61-2ubuntu1 (Ubuntu 20.04). For Nvidia the Ubuntu package suggests the libnvidia-gl-NNN package which I believe includes the required vulkan parts. Therefore I am going to mark this bug as fixed released.
