[Bug 1922996] [NEW] alien 8.95.3 cannot create any debs
Public bug reported: As described in Debian bugs [1] and [2], alien 8.95.3 (and .1 and .2, but those aren't being shipped by any release of Ubuntu) cannot successfully generate any debs, ever - with neither bug patched, it will error out on attempting to generate any deb at all due to a syntax error in the debian/rules it generates, and with that fixed, it will incorrectly locate the files to be installed (e.g. /usr/include files will end up in /include, and so on). Please package 8.95.4 for Hirsute, or anyone who wants to use alien to generate debs on Hirsute will be quite sad. (Yes, to be clear, I did verify these bugs reproduce on Ubuntu's 8.95.3 alien package, though it was sort of a foregone conclusion, since Ubuntu doesn't appear to patch it at all.) [Bug 1921562] Re: Intermittent hangs during ldap_search_ext when TLS enabled
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + When connecting to an LDAP server with TLS, ldap_search_ext can hang if during the initial TLS handshake a signal is received by the process. The cause of this bug is the same as - https://bugs.openldap.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8650 which was fixed in - https://git.openldap.org/openldap/openldap/-/commit/735e1ab and was - released as part of version 2.4.50. This bug effects Ubuntu 20.04 LTS - and potentially earlier Ubuntu releases. Later Ubuntu releases use an - openldap version that is at least 2.4.50 and are therefore not affected. + https://bugs.openldap.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8650. In our case this bug cause failures in the SSSD LDAP backend at least once per day, resulting in authentication errors followed by a sssd_be + restart after a timeout has been hit. + + + [Test Plan] + === + + When using openldap on 20.04, this bug causes failures in the SSSD LDAP + backend, resulting in authentication errors followed by a sssd_be restart after a timeout has been hit: Mar 19 19:05:31 mail auth[867454]: pam_sss(dovecot:auth): received for user redacted: 4 (System error) Mar 19 19:05:32 mail sssd_be[867455]: Starting up + + With the patched version, this should no longer be a problem. + + + [Where Problems Could Occur] + + + With this patch applied, there may be few edge cases in (and varying + b/w) different versions of GnuTLS. And also some bits that are discussed + in https://bugs.openldap.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8650. + + But that said, the patched version is already being run in production + for over two weeks time (at the time of writing - 07/04/21). So I + believe the SRU will clearly benefit from this and has lower risk of + regression. + + + [More Info] + === A reduced version of the patch linked above can be found attached to this bug report. This patch has been applied to version 2.4.49+dfsg- 2ubuntu1.7 and has been running in production for approximately a week and the issue has no longer occurred. No other issues have appeared during this period. - - As this bug affects all systems using LDAP with TLS, I suggest that the - fix for this bug is ported to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and potentially earlier - versions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1921562 Title: Intermittent hangs during ldap_search_ext when TLS enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openldap/+bug/1921562/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1838152] Re: gnome-shell freezes on notification arrival (fixed upstream)
Performing verification for Bionic. I want to say straight up, I haven't been able to reproduce the problem, I have tried many mechanisms, but I can not reproduce the 20 second shell hang and crash, as documented in https://github.com/GSConnect /gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect/issues/549#issuecomment-515679156 I first tried to reproduce the problem using gnome-shell 3.28.4-0ubuntu18.04.3 from -updates. I have tried the following in both KVM and on physical hardware of a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Laptop. I installed the "TeaTime" gnome-shell extension version 28 from https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/604/teatime/ and used it to send multiple notifications that arrive in 5 second delays. The hang never occured. I tried creating a draft email in evolution as suggested in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/470, and ctrl- clicked the link to spawn firefox with a notification. I did this several times, no hangs. I then tried the calendar feature in Evolution to send a notification on a new event in 5 minutes time. I did this multiple times, and never got any hangs. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1575281 I installed the gsconnect gnome-shell extension https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1319/gsconnect/ and paired it to my android phone running the kdeconnect app. In the settings menu on the android app, there is a "send ping" button. Press that and a notification is spawned in gnome-shell. I clicked this many times, and tried clearing notifications and being in various apps, or trying to race notifications and still could not get a hang. Reading the commits, the gnome-shell hang is caused by fsync() being called from a main thread on persistent gnome-shell state files. I found the gnome-shell pid, and attached strace like so: $ sudo strace -e fsync -p On 3.28.4-0ubuntu18.04.3 each time I pressed "Send Ping" from kdeconnect, a line is printed with: fsync(38) 0 suggesting that fsync is called every time a notification comes in. I then enabled -proposed and installed gnome-shell 3.28.4-0ubuntu18.04.7 I retried all my initial tests, and everything worked and did not hang. When it came to running strace against gnome-shell to view fsync calls, I noticed that fsync was no longer being called each time I pressed "Send Ping", meaning it is no longer happening per notification arrival. I clicked the clock icon to see all notifications, and a large amount of fsync calls appeared in strace output all at once, suggesting that they were put on pause and batched all at once. I can see the behaviour change that 86a00b6 and 19e0840 has had on fsync behaviour, so the commits are doing what they say. In my testing, I did not see any harm caused by these commits, as notifications still arrived as usual. Again, I could not reproduce the original report of a 20 second hang, but the new package in -proposed appears to do no harm from the testing I have undertaken. I talked to Marco about this bug, and we agreed it is okay to mark as verified. So, with some hesitation, I will mark this bug as verified. ** Bug watch added: github.com/GSConnect/gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect/issues #549 https://github.com/GSConnect/gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect/issues/549 ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues #470 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/470 ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #1575281 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1575281 ** Tags removed: verification-needed verification-needed-bionic ** Tags added: verification-done-bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1838152 Title: gnome-shell freezes on notification arrival (fixed upstream) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1838152/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1921664] Re: Recent update broke qemu-system-riscv64
I'm not sure how I was _supposed_ to do this, but I checked out the official release and then switch to the hirsute-delta-as-commits- lp1921664 (6c7e3708580ac50f78261a82b2fcdc2f288d6cea) branch which kept the directories around. I configured with "--target- list=riscv64-softmmu" to save time and the resulting binary did *not* reproduce the bug. So in summary: - Debian 1:5.2+dfsg-9ubuntu1 reproduces the issue of both RPi4 and my M1 VM. - So far no version I have built have reproduced the issue. Definitely makes either _how_ I built it or the _build tools_ I used sus I'm not sure what to do next. [Bug 1864613] Re: xfwm4 very, very slow - leaking something?
Xfwm4 has CI configured to run tests on every commit. For non- translation commits, build and distcheck jobs are run. https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4/-/pipelines As 4.14.2-4.14.5 are all bug fix releases, I would recommend the 4.14.5 release instead of individual cherry-picks in between. [Bug 1922976] [NEW] iscsid fails to log out from target on shutdown
Public bug reported: When using an iSCSI root filesystem, the /usr/share/finalrd/open- iscsi.finalrd script runs an instance of iscsid, waits for iscsid to find the existing logged-in sessions, and then logs out from the iSCSI target. This currently fails because iscsid happens to call getpwuid() on UID 0. Within the finalrd there are no libnss_*.so libraries and no /etc/passwd file, so the getpwuid() call returns NULL. This causes iscsid to report an error "peeruser_unix: unknown local user with uid 0", and prevents iscsid from recovering the existent session. The end result is that the open-iscsi.finalrd script waits for its maximum 30 seconds and then fails to log out from the iSCSI target. The error message is most easily observed by modifying /usr/share/finalrd/open-iscsi.finalrd to run iscsid as "iscsid -f -d 8". An example of a minimal workaround may be seen at https://github.com/ipxe/sanbootable/commit/30bc58ce013a4db6b6d3480e42d4dc42d927fc5f (Ubuntu 20.04) ** Affects: open-iscsi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922976 Title: iscsid fails to log out from target on shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-iscsi/+bug/1922976/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1874270] Re: NVMe/FC connections fail to reestablish after controller is reset
Hmm, I looked at the udev rule and the service it calls a bit closer, and I'm not sure if that udev rule has *ever* worked; it's attempting to pass a full list of parameters as the template value on the cmdline, and I can kind of understand the intention, but it's not a good way to implement it. $ sudo systemctl --no-block start nvmf-connect@--device=none\t--transport=fc\t--traddr=nn-0x200400a098d85eb4:pn-0x203400a098d85eb4\t--trsvcid=none\t--host-traddr=nn-0x2090fadcc57dpn-0x1090fadcc57d.service Invalid unit name "nvmf-connect@--device=nonet--transport=fct--traddr=nn-0x200400a098d85eb4:pn-0x203400a098d85eb4t--trsvcid=nonet--host-traddr=nn-0x2090fadcc57dpn-0x1090fadcc57d.service" escaped as "nvmf-connect@--device\x3dnonet--transport\x3dfct--traddr\x3dnn-0x200400a098d85eb4:pn-0x203400a098d85eb4t--trsvcid\x3dnonet--host-traddr\x3dnn-0x2090fadcc57dpn-0x1090fadcc57d.service" (maybe you should use systemd-escape?). The problem here is that systemctl doesn't allow "=" character to be included in the unit template data. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874270 Title: NVMe/FC connections fail to reestablish after controller is reset To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvme-cli/+bug/1874270/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1922974] [NEW] dash doesn't open when mouse right-click menu is open
Public bug reported: This is a minor bug, but I noticed that when the mouse right-click menu is open in some applications (tested on "Nautilus" (the file browser) and "VLC"), the Dash menu (Unity's "Start Menu") doesn't open when pressing the 'Super' key. Instead it does nothing, but when I close the right-click menu (by clicking elsewhere on the screen; pressing 'Alt' also worked for me) the Dash menu opens as if it's buffered the 'Super' key input. When tested on the right-click menu on other applications ("Google Chrome"), the same behavior didn't occur - it simply closed the right-click menu and opened the Dash menu right away.
