[Bug 1926100] Re: Hotspot (access point) is not working properly on two different wifi adapters.
I found a temporary "solution". Apparently, it is a superficial problem. Solution: when the hotspot option is gray (impossible to click), just click on another option in the left configuration menu and go back to the "Wi-Fi" option and the hotspot option appears selectable again. The problem apparently is with the settings interface. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1926100 Title: Hotspot (access point) is not working properly on two different wifi adapters. The weird thing is, after doing this, there is an additional "pluma" in the Properties/Open With list. [Bug 1929308] [NEW] parole media player volume key fails in debian xfce
Public bug reported: problem occurs with debian buster 10.9 xfce installed with the cd iso. desktop 1. this system has a logitech keyboard k120 which does not have multimedia keys so i assign keyboard shortcuts as such : pactl -- set-sink-volume 0 +5% : to increase sound pactl -- set-sink-volume 0 -5% : to decrease sound pactl -- set-sink-mute 0 toggle : to mute sound next i play a video with parole which is default / built-in in the buster 10.9 xfce cd iso. if i use the keyboard shortcut assigned by me to decrease volume it works but the keyboard shortcut assigned by me to increase volume will not work with parole. the keyboard shortcuts for volume assigned by me work perfectly with mpv & vlc but now with the default / built-in media player parole. desktop 2. this system has a dell keyboard kb216 which does have hardware multimedia keys & even on this computer the same problem with parole. if play a video with parole the keyboard button to decrease volume will decrease volume but the keyboard button to increase volume does nothing. the shortcut keys assigned by me on the logitech keyboard on desktop 1 & the hardware multimedia keys on the dell keyboard on desktop 1 work perfectly system wide & even with browsers while playing youtube videos & streaming news but with parole the increase volume part fails. the previous versions of buster were cool with no pre-installed media players. if debian has to pack in a media player in the iso, celluloid is an excellent player i.m.o. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: debian media parole player -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1929308 Title: parole media player volume key fails in debian xfce To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1929308/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1929307] [NEW] It is hard to set Pluma as default application to open desktop-files
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Copy some desktop-file to the home folder with cp /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop ~ 2. Open Caja in home folder 3. Make right mouse click on newly copied firefox.desktop file, ensure that you have two options here - "Open With LibreOffice Writer" and "Open With Other Application" 4. Click on "Open With Other Application", select Pluma in the opened window 5. Repeat step 3 to see Pluma in the list Expected results: * desktop-files are now open with Pluma Actual results: * Pluma is not shown, "Open With LibreOffice Writer" stays in place Workaround: 1. Hit Properties, go to Open With tab and repeatedly click on Remove button, then close this window. 2. Visit "Open With Other Application" and type `pluma` in "Use a custom command" and click Add (if does not work - do this twice) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 21.04 Package: caja 1.24.1-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.11.0-16.17-generic 5.11.12 Uname: Linux 5.11.0-16-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu65 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: MATE Date: Sat May 22 23:24:54 2021 InstallationDate: Installed on 2021-04-23 (29 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-MATE 21.04 "Hirsute Hippo" - Release amd64 (20210420) SourcePackage: caja UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: mate-desktop Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: caja (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic focal hirsute impish ** Bug watch added: github.com/mate-desktop/caja/issues #1530 https://github.com/mate-desktop/caja/issues/1530 ** Also affects: mate-desktop via https://github.com/mate-desktop/caja/issues/1530 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1929307 Title: It is hard to set Pluma as default application to open desktop-files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mate-desktop/+bug/1929307/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1922342] Re: HIrsute live session takes ages to boot on BIOS systems
Hi, José Marinho wrote: > I made the experiment you proposed modifying grub.cfg file. > [...] > So it seems that you find the cause of the problem. By luck and 14 years of xorriso development. :)) Can i talk you into a second test ? This time only disable the part in grub.cfg which evaluates the variable: if [ "$grub_platform" = "efi" ]; then menuentry 'Boot from next volume' { exit } but leave the command in effect: grub_platform The resulting behavior will be of interest when asking GRUB experts for an explanation. - We still could need to know what wonder exactly gnome disks does for Lucap. Somehow the partition table of the ISO influences the ability of command and/or variable evaluation to do its job in reasonable time. The proposed xorriso runs will hopefully show what exactly lets grub_platform or the evaluation of $grub_platform block boot progress. - When both open questions are answered, it will be time that Ubuntu ISO production takes this case to one of the mailing lists about misbehaving GRUB. Let's have a look into the archives. Not much replies: https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-grub Probably not the right audience: https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/help-grub Quite oriented to "[PATCH]"-work. But at least they discuss what is posted: https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/grub-devel/ I am subscribed to grub-devel, because of grub-mkrescue. So i could serve as curious bystander who wonders where command grub_platform is implemented. Thank you for your suggestion. However, the changes you are requesting aren't really a bug and require more discussion, which should be done on an appropriate mailing list or forum. http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists might be a good start for determining which mailing list to use. https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/re-visiting-hibernate-on-ubuntu/15953 is a fairly recent thread on Ubuntu Discourse. [Bug 1922342] Re: HIrsute live session takes ages to boot on BIOS systems
Hi Thomas, I made the experiment you proposed modifying grub.cfg file. In this case I use a regular Ubuntu (Main edition with Gnome) Impish iso file. After Grub I get a blank screen with the cursor blinking and after only 32 seconds I reach Ubuntu logo and after 1 minute and 22 seconds the window where you select language settings and if you want to try Ubuntu first or begin installation process now without trying Ubuntu. [Bug 1908820] Re: fresh 20.10 install on Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 crashed
I had trouble installing 20.10 on my new "Lenevo Ideapad Gaming 3" with AMD Ryzen 4800, 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD; visited couple of sites and GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset" helped me to successfully install, boot and start using it (OS kept complaining that no video driver was installed). Even without video driver, Ubuntu 20.10 randomly crashed and some background processes could not write to "Disk". I updated the OS (without upgrading graphics driver) but it kept crashing. I updated/installed NVIDIA graphics driver but still it crashes randomly. Apparently it crashes when OS tries to create a new file on SSD (i.e. whn I download a file in FireFox or simply use text editor to create one). I shall try posting all logs in my next post. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908820 Title: fresh 20.10 install on Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 crashed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1908820/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1919255] Re: tracker-store crashed with signal 5
Please ignore my earlier comment. This does still occur, I just didn't see it has I had inadvertently set apport to automatically report so there was no pop-up. After boot, tracker seems to run normally, at least initially: merlin@Minmus:~$ tracker status Currently indexed: 26384 files, 2120 folders Remaining space on database partition: 735.6 GB (83.31%) Data is still being indexed: Estimated 02m 44s left After the crash, I see: merlin@Minmus:~$ tracker status Currently indexed: 0 files, 0 folders Remaining space on database partition: 735.4 GB (83.29%) Data is still being indexed: Estimated 36s left Deleting the database at ~/.cache/tracker/meta.db does not fix the problem. [Bug 1922342] Re: HIrsute live session takes ages to boot on BIOS systems
Hi, just in case somebody wants to make experiments with changed grub.cfg, here are instructions how to create a modified ISO from an Ubuntu amd64 original (but not from a "powerpc" ISO): Set paths to the original ISO image and for the emerging ISO image: ORIG=ubuntu-21.04-desktop-amd64.iso NEW=ubuntu-21.04-test.iso Extract grub.cfg from the original ISO to the current working directory: xorriso -indev "$ORIG" -osirrox on -extract /boot/grub/grub.cfg ./grub.cfg Make the extracted file writable: chmod u+w ./grub.cfg Now edit the file. My proposal is to remove the 5 lines about grub_platform. Make sure that a file with path "$NEW" does not yet exist. Then create the new modified ISO: xorriso -indev "$ORIG" \ -outdev "$NEW" \ -map ./grub.cfg /boot/grub/grub.cfg \ -boot_image any replay This run of xorriso will issue some righteous warnings xorriso : WARNING : -volid text problematic as automatic mount point name xorriso : WARNING : -volid text does not comply to ISO 9660 / ECMA 119 rules because of the blanks and lower case characters in Volume id: 'Ubuntu 21.04 amd64' It will analyze "$ORIG" for boot equipment and boot entry points in order to create the same in "$NEW" xorriso : NOTE : Replayed 22 boot related commands xorriso : NOTE : Copying to System Area: 32768 bytes from file '--interval:imported_iso:0s-15s:zero_mbrpt,zero_gpt:ubuntu-21.04-desktop-amd64.iso' Then it begins to write to "$NEW" an ISO image of roughly the same size as the size of "$ORIG". Enjoy the progress messages. :)) When done, put "$NEW" onto the USB stick and try what happens. (Maybe mount "$NEW" and check whether your changes really did get into effect in /boot/grub/grub.cfg, before the lengthy dd to USB stick.) [Bug 1926938] Re: Recent mainline packages are built with Hirsuite 21.04, not Focal 20.04 LTS
When we try to help people, either here on launchpad or on forums, very often we would like them to try the latest mainline kernel, just as a test to determine if the issue has already been fixed upstream. This bug prevents that useful option for previous Ubuntu versions. This dependency should be eliminated such that Ubuntu Mainline kernels can be installed on any valid Ubuntu release at least back to the previous LTS, as has been the normal situation for at least a decade. Earlier someone was asking how to compile the mainline kernel. My notes, without the optimizations someone else was mentioning, on "how to" are here, and they are current, even thou there is a 15.10 tag: https://askubuntu.com/questions/718381/how-to-compile-and-install- custom-mainline-kernel/718662#718662 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1926938 Title: Recent mainline packages are built with Hirsuite 21.04, not Focal 20.04 LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1926938/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Is this a question or a report of an observed fact ? If it is an observation, then i would be strongly interested in seeing the results of two runs of STICK=/dev/sdc xorriso -indev stdio:"$STICK" -report_system_area plain with STICK holding the device address which you used with dd. Each run will emit about 50 lines of text. You may catch them in a /tmp file by xorriso -indev stdio:"$STICK" -report_system_area plain 2>&1 | \ tee -i -a /tmp/report_system_area.txt Please make one run after freshly writing the unmodified ISO to the stick before you use gnome disks. Afterwards make a second run to show the result of gnome disk's activities. Since the share manager can supply rule changes to the driver in batches, the driver has to gracefully handle individual rule failures. Further some of the causes of the access rule failures can be remedied by end users, therefore asynchronous user messages would be a good vehicle to register user faults that can be examined and corrected.
