[Bug 1927100] Re: Slow file dialogs, open and save

2021-10-23 Thread buck2202
Just a quick confirmation that with the patch applied, I've had no
gvfsd-trash deadlocks requiring a pkill in over a week. It was
previously hourly or worse.

[Bug 1947790] Re: marisa FTBFS on ppc64el

2021-10-23 Thread Mitsuya Shibata
@Gunnar,

> I see that only installing g++-10 would have been sufficient.

Yes, g++-10 on build-depends is only needed for the bug.

The source package of marisa will generate some components, libmarisa,
perl/python/ruby bindings. This gcc-10/gcc-11 problem only affects ruby
bindings. Other components can build with gcc-11.

To build ruby bindings, debian/rules will execute following steps.

1. extconf.rb geneates Makefile for test tool and bindings to link libmarisa
2. execute make command

mkmf module in extconf.rb sets CC and some build related environment
variables. But this variables will not refer host system directly,
instead of this, mkmf refer to ruby embedded information. That is, mkmf
will set CC as same as compile to build ruby.

Ruby for ppc64el on impish/jammy has builded by gcc-10, mkmf will
generate Makefile in which CC is "powerpc64le-linux-gnu-gcc-10".

irb(main):004:0> p RbConfig::CONFIG['CC']
"powerpc64le-linux-gnu-gcc-10"
=> "powerpc64le-linux-gnu-gcc-10"

Summarize, the gcc-10 is only needed to build ruby binding of marisa.

[Bug 1948561] Re: screechy tinny sound quality

2021-10-23 Thread John Radman
** Description changed:

When playing any video other than a youtube video, the sound quality is
terrible. It's very tinny and screechy as if it were blowing out the
speakers, but even at quiet noise levels. I've tried numerous fixes
including editing the config files for pulse audio, adjusting the sound
levels in pulseaudio volume control, adjusting the speaker levels in
alsa mixer, messing with the levels in pulse effects.

Pulseaudio config editing attempts I've tried:
+
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1108825/laptops-speakers-sound-bad-poor-sound-quality
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/PositionReporting
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjmHVgCSpQQ

It is a Realtek ALC3204 sound card on a Dell Inspiron 3501 laptop.
  Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
  5.11.0-38-generic

I can "fix" the audio issue by playing a youtube video (which always
plays with good sound quality) and then playing a different video
simultaneously. This causes the other video to play with good sound
quality. I can then close the youtube video and the other video
continues playing with good sound only as long as I don't pause the
  video or it buffers.

[Bug 1948561] [NEW] screechy tinny sound quality

Public bug reported:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1108...-sound-quality

It is a Realtek ALC3204 sound card on a Dell Inspiron 3501 laptop.

I can "fix" the audio issue by playing a youtube video (which always

[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled

2021-10-23 Thread Atilla Birer
I disabled the TRACKPOINT (not trackpad) in the BIOS of my Lenovo E15
Gen2 AMD and I was able to install and use but it's annoying not being
able to use the trackpad buttons (I can only touch tap etc), I am
assuming the trackpoint and the trackpad buttons are connected. This is
a very annoying issue and hope it will be fixed soon.

[Bug 1948556] [NEW] calendar has low contrast in both default themes

2021-10-23 Thread Junior Martins
Public bug reported:

Both default dark and light themes of calendar have very low contrast
between event and text colour of events. Text colour is always some kind
of light grey (dark and light modes) or dark grey (light mode only).

On dark theme, setting an account calendar to bright colours doesn't
affect the text colour (light text on light background), while the
opposite doesn't happen on light theme (text changes colour
automatically to dark or light according to background colour).

Also, the colours themselves are differently applied than expected:
changing an account colour to white while in dark mode changes it to a
whitish purple instead of actual white, while changing it to black on
light mode changes it to dark grey.

[Bug 1948542] [NEW] Impish: perf probe crashes

2021-10-23 Thread Brett Holman
Public bug reported:

Perf crashes when attempting to add probes at certain locations. I
submitted a bug via apport, but I have additional details to share (and
I couldn't figure out how to find that report).

- I was unable to reproduce on the upstream kernel (torvalds/master).
- perf probe crashed with the following command:

holmanb@arc:~/workspace/Stockfish/src > sudo perf probe -x ./stockfish --add
stage_7=next_move:77
zsh: segmentation fault sudo perf probe -x ./stockfish --add
stage_7=next_move:77

listing lines that a probe can be attached to (see following) showed that perf
probe thinks this line _could_ be added
perf probe -L next_move -x ./stockfish

   case BAD_CAPTURE:
 77return select([](){ return true; });

Using torvalds/master, (and stockfish built with the same compiler/arguments),
this issue did not occur, and `perf probe -x ./stockfish -L next_move` did not
list that address as one available to attach a probe to.

Upstream:
root@arc-kvm:~/Stockfish/src# perf probe -x ./stockfish --add
next_move=next_move:77
This line is sharing the address with other lines.
Please try to probe at next_move:73 instead.
  Error: Failed to add events.

This symptom appeared was reproducible when attempting to add a probe at
other lines that attempted to return the output of a template function
with a lambda argument".

[Bug 1948538] Re: USB serial devices not available in /dev/serial/by-id/ after upgrade

2021-10-23 Thread Christopher Conroy
just to clarify, before the upgrade I had /dev/ttyACM0 and a
corresponding entry in /dev/serial/by-id/ for it.

I've verified that a fresh image of 20.04 LTS with the same device
attached does not exhibit the same issue, and the device shows up as
expected.

[Bug 1948541] [NEW] Microphone is silent if left and right channels are set to the same volume

2021-10-23 Thread FurretUber
Public bug reported:

If the microphone volume is set the same for both left and right
channels, it's nearly silent, being unusable, as if the left and right
channel cancel each other.

The workaround I had on Focal was to create a remapped source only with
the right channel. However, on jammy, another bug makes this workaround
fail.

While I reported the pipewire bug at
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/1734 I'm also
reporting this bug so, hopefully, the kernel could be fixed and no
workaround would be required in the future.

The following image shows an example of the volume disparity that makes
the microphone work properly:
https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/327981417407447040/901465383201013800/unknown.png

While such setting allow to use the microphone, it's annoying for the
people I'm talking with.

project.org/db/?f=0751ed5c43c0f35e5385971735a518951cb753f0

[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled

2021-10-23 Thread Ian Lee
I am running on a ThinkPad E15 Gen2(R5 4500U). Similarly getting this
error message when booting Ubuntu 21.10 from ventoy with nomodeset
option. I am currently running PopOS 21.04 with kernel
5.13.0-7614-generic and I am not seeing the error for this kernel
version. I am not not knowledgeable about kernel versions but would
anyone be able to try to test 5.13.0-7614-generic?

[Bug 1948533] [NEW] any dns defined in network-manager doesnt go in openvpn tunnel (leaks on gnome/mate/xubuntu only in 21.10)

2021-10-23 Thread Tiphen Ti
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

in all linux including ubuntu up to version 21.04, when dns is set to not
automatic in network manager and one dns is set manually (exemple 1.1.1.1) when
openvpn is used the dns is going through the vpn tunnel.
On ubuntu 21.10 (I tested ubuntu, ubuntu mate and xubuntu)I can affirm the dns
in this case is not going trough the vpn.it is leaking.I have used ubuntu for
years this is first time this problem occurs (21.10).(and it s not just a
question of packages because on my arch linux installs I never had such
problem, so it must be a config problem.

(when using packages stubby or dnscrypt-proxy (to encrypt dns queries)
and dns 127.0.0.1 is set in network-manager the dns does goes trough the
vpn (but stubby service needs to be sometimes reloded, it is less
reliable that it used to be with previous versions of ubuntu)

(I cannot speculate where the bug is from (network-manager, systemd
resolved etc)

 Status: New

[Bug 1741074] Re: [snap] chrome-gnome-shell extension fails to detect native host connector

2021-10-23 Thread Max
It seems, Belgium eID (Comment #36) uses PKCS#11, not native messaging:
https://github.com/Fedict/eid-mw/blob/master/plugins_tools/xpi/new-src/manifest.json
However the problem is essentially the same: native manifest.
Olivier filed a bug in Firefox bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/1734371
"Firefox snap can't load PKCS#11 modules on the host system"

I suppose, the title of this bug does not reflect scale of the problem.
All browser add-ons that relies on native manifests are affected
in Chromium and Firefox.

I came across this issue testing an extension in Firefox using Ubuntu-21.10
live image. I am considering whether it is feasible to run a kind of thin
proxy server on host that creates a socket inside a directory mounted to snap
and runs a binary in response to connection (something like inetd).
It requires a stub for native messaging app that connects to the server
and pass through requests and responses. Generally it does not differ
too much from D-Bus and ideally requires support from Firefox for robust
checks if particular add-on is allowed to run a specific app.

[Bug 1948528] [NEW] Mouse pointer doesn't reach left edge of screen

2021-10-23 Thread Kenneth Ruby
Public bug reported:

In the live-boot USB stick of Ubuntu Desktop 20.04 LTS:

My mouse pointer does not visually reach the left edge of the screen.
Logically the pointer functionality does reach the left edge, in the
sense that it can select and copy text that extends to the left edge,
but the pointer cannot be viewed performing this action; the displayed
pointer stops (appears frozen) about two millimeters from the left edge.

The pointer reaches the upper, lower, and right edges of the screen
without any problem.

My mouse and screen are brand new. My computer is 5 years old (launch
2016, purchase 2019).

I have the same problem with my Linux Mint (Cinnamon and Mate desktops),
which is based on Ubuntu. I perform regular updates to the system. The
file /var/log/Xorg.0.log does not show any errors or warnings related
to the mouse.

The problem in Linux Mint persists even if I change:

- Screen resolution
- Theme
- Windows settings (Focus mode)
- General settings (VSync method, Compositing)
- Mouse acceleration and sensitivity
- Disabling of all Effects

Note that there is no problem with the mouse pointer with a live-boot
USB stick containing Linux EndeavourOS.

[Bug 1774632] Re: The symbolic link /etc/resolv.conf points to the wrong file by default

2021-10-23 Thread Derek V Giroulle
OS Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
After a recent update a working laptop suddently developped the following
problem :
- DNS problems for al Internet related apps
- Ping : termporary failure in Name resolution
editing manually allows internet access for short term until systemd-resolve
overwrites the file.
Its no use to replace /etc/resolv.conf with a file as it get overwritten
regulary.

The stub-file /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf contains

> nameserver 127.0.0.53
> options edsn0 trust-ad

In my Network options I have
DHCP auto
DNS manual 19*.2*8.*.21, 19*.2*8.*.22 which are my ISP dedicated DNS servers
(stars are hiding numbers)

when i overwrite /etc/resolv.conf with
> nameserver 19*.2*8.*.21
> nameserver 19*.2*8.*.22
my internet connection temporarily works

The /run/systemd/resolve/resolve.conf contains
> nameserver ::1

I tried overwriting /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf with the correct
nameservers and
then applied your solution :
$ sudo rm -f /etc/resolv.conf
$ sudo ln -s /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf

And restarted the systemd-resolve service

and the /etc/resolv.conf and /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf files
showed again

> nameserver ::1

Your solution doesn't work

[Bug 1905591] Re: no brightness control in {455, 460} after update from 450

2021-10-23 Thread Kunal Zodape
I had already tried the "EnableBrightnessControl=1" kernel parameter a
year ago but I tried it anyway, no effect. However, trying the
suggestion of @paulplusx I can happily report that brightness works
flawlessly after using
"nvidia.NVreg_RegistryDwords=EnableBrightnessControl=1" with the latest
495 driver. nvidia-smi shows GPU is loaded and opengl works on glxgears
and CG:GO. If someone can test CUDA that would be great.

Thank you everyone and especially @paulplusx for solving this issue,
hopefully this means we can close this bug soon.

[Bug 1947509] Re: system crashes with different and unrelated programs

2021-10-23 Thread Higurashi Kagome
I'd like to mention that before I scrapped Ubuntu 21.10 because of the
continual crashes, it was working beautifully. Everything responded
faster - programs loading, web sites loading, pictures, etc. I still
don't know why it started crashing. Perhaps version 22 will be better.
I'm looking forward to giving it a go.

[Bug 1948044] Re: charon-systemd fails on raspberry pi systems under ubuntu 21.10

2021-10-23 Thread Sven Lütkemeier
It appears that some kernel modules required by charon/StrongSwan are no
longer part of the default raspi-kernel. They are now part of a separate
package "linux-modules-extra-raspi". Installing this package allowed my
installation of StrongSwan to work unter Ubuntu 21.10.

I found this out by taking a look on other bug reports concerning linux-
raspi, especially this one about docker:

[Bug 1948525] [NEW] Alters Performance options > Cache mode causing start failure

2021-10-23 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04 amd64. Originally thought this was virt-manager but tested
via virsh and found it appears to be caused by libvirt.

$ apt-cache policy libvirt-daemon virt-manager | grep -E '(^[^ ]|Installed)'
libvirt-daemon:
  Installed: 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.14
virt-manager:
  Installed: 1:2.2.1-3ubuntu2.1

$ virsh start 1804test
error: Failed to start domain 1804test
error: internal error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor:
2021-10-23T10:27:43.756117Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device
ide-cd,bus=ide.0,unit=1,drive=libvirt-1-format,id=ide0-0-1,bootindex=1,write-cache=on:
 Failed to lock byte 100

Notice the "write-cache=on". In the domain definition it is set to
"none":

I found that changing this (via virt-manager) sometimes does, and
sometimes does not, get reflected in the underlying call to qemu-system.

The reason for disabling caching is the ISOs are stored on an NFS file-
system and with caching the attempt to write-lock fails.

The full command-line captured as the machine was being started was:

[Bug 1947790] Re: marisa FTBFS on ppc64el

2021-10-23 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for the tip!

The workaround for ruby was applied already in impish, but the marisa
source which fails in jammy builds successfully in impish.

https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/marisa/+packages

So that would indicate that marisa fails for some other reason. Did you
possibly try to build with gcc-10?

[Bug 1946806] Re: kdeconnect not available in repositories for 20.04

2021-10-23 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

I was unable to reproduce this issue. The kdeconnect package is
available
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdeconnect/1.4-0ubuntu5) and
I was able to install it without any issues on Ubuntu 20.04.

Could you please run `sudo apt update` to check for updates and sync the
package list, then try again? If you still get the same error, could you
attach the output from `apt policy kdeconnect` and the full error
message from `apt install..`

I have installed a Gigabyte GC-WB1733D-I PCIe card.
The Blue Tooth function works perfectly.
The wifi connects to my TP-LINK TD-W9960 router's wifi and shows the wifi
connection is up when I remove the LAN cable connecting the PC to the router.
BUT, there is NO communication when I try to access any Internet site.
lspci -knn | grep Net -A3; rfkill list; uname -a returns:

[Bug 1947790] Re: marisa FTBFS on ppc64el

2021-10-23 Thread Mitsuya Shibata
It seems that ruby on ppc64el requires gcc-10 instead of system defaults
gcc-11.

ref: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ruby2.7/+bug/1943823

We should be add "g++-10 [ppc64el]," to Build-Depends in debian/control?

[Bug 1906177] Re: Upgrade Haproxy to 2.3

2021-10-23 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Debian has packaged version 2.4.7-2
(https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/haproxy). However, the Ubuntu package
currently includes some additional packages so either the newer version
needs to be manually merged with these changes, or if they are alreadey
included the newer package can be synced.
