[Bug 1948349] Re: Ubuntu 21.10 Kernel Panic error.. Unable to boot from Live USB installer

2021-10-26 Thread moxzie hook
I have managed to solved this problem yesterday with the help of Ubuntu Support
system on Telegram..
The problem in my case was the incorrect error in the ISO image that I
downloaded from the official repo.
This error might have creeped in while I was downloading the iso in parts
through IDM.
With the help of the Checksum correction I managed to fix the error of the ISO
image. I used qtorrent and downloaded the partially incomplete and missing
piece of the ISO.
I have already installed and I'm currently running Impish Indri with zero
problem...
Thank you everyone!
Impish Indri was a superb release..

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the bug report. However, I was not able to reproduce the
failure with the steps that you provided. I did the following in a Focal

Here, I had to pass the relative path to autotest-local and after that install

[Bug 1933828] Re: NTP servers from DHCP are not propagated to timesyncd

2021-10-26 Thread Sebastien Bacher
was the issue reported and discussed upstream yet? those scripts added
to the package sound like downstream workaround we will have to carry
and should be a backup plan if the issue can't be properly fixed
upstream. And even if a distro hack makes sense it would be better to
have it in Debian to reduce or maintainance

[Bug 1940907] Re: [SRU] Authentication/Authorization broken due to GitHub platform changes

2021-10-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gist - 5.0.0-4ubuntu1

---
gist (5.0.0-4ubuntu1) focal; urgency=medium

  * Update workflows for authentication and authorization,
due to GitHub endpoint deprecations (LP: #1940907):
- d/patches/auth-header: Add patch.
Use header-based authentication, instead of query-parameter-based.
- d/patches/auth-oauth: Add patch.
Use web OAuth flow, instead of removed Authorizations endpoints.
- d/patches/webmock: Remove patch.
Upstream change (in auth-oauth patch) incorporates the diff.
- d/patches/series: Add two patches, remove one patch.

[Bug 1948812] [NEW] Bad busybox modinfo output on exactly 3 modules

2021-10-26 Thread Krzysztof Leszczyński
Public bug reported:

Trying on Ubuntu 20.04.3 with linux-modules-5.4.0-88-generic and busybox

for a in $(find /lib/modules/5.4.0-88-generic/ -name '*.ko')
do
   [ $(busybox modinfo -F name $a|wc -w) = 1 ] || echo $a
done

This code should output nothing because every module reports just a
name. Instead it outputs exactly three lines:

/lib/modules/5.4.0-88-generic/kernel/net/ceph/libceph.ko
/lib/modules/5.4.0-88-generic/kernel/fs/nfs/nfs.ko
/lib/modules/5.4.0-88-generic/kernel/zfs/zfs.ko

Let's try them

 $ busybox modinfo -F name
/lib/modules/5.4.0-88-generic/kernel/fs/nfs/nfsv4.ko
 nfsv4
This is correct, I put it just for the reference.

 $ busybox modinfo -F name
/lib/modules/5.4.0-88-generic/kernel/net/ceph/libceph.ko

 %s
 libceph
The above incorrectly reports one empty line, one literal %s and the name of
the module

 $ busybox modinfo -F name
/lib/modules/5.4.0-88-generic/kernel/fs/nfs/nfs.ko
 %02x:%02x:%llu/%s

 nfs
This reports a strange format and empty line and then nfs

 $ busybox modinfo -F name /lib/modules/5.4.0-88-generic/kernel/zfs/zfs.ko
 %s
 %s creation_txg=%llu target_snap=%llu
 zfs
Yet another strange format

No other module, except those 3, misbehaved when tried to get a name from
busybox modinfo

Just for your information I used the busybox from the package busybox
version 1:1.30.1-4ubuntu6.3 amd64 but the very same result was generated
by the latest compiled busybox

2021-10-26 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1948807] [NEW] Boot time from snap in 20/stable increses boot time on 3.5 seconds

2021-10-26 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
Public bug reported:

I am seeing what looks as a regression in pi-kernel snap for UC20: there
are around 3.5 additional seconds spent in boot time. In the image from
cdimage (2021-06-30), I see:

[1.856540] random: crng init done
[1.871798] loop: module loaded

(see https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/CkfWXY5Vgf/)
while if I build an image from latest snaps in the 20/stable channel, I get:

[1.855481] random: crng init done
[5.349491] loop: module loaded

(see https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/CNt42gdDcZ/)
The pi-kernel snap revision is 353.

[Bug 1929999] Re: [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.7.2.M3 for Focal

2021-10-26 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
This is a bit of a tricky situation I think. Let me elaborate.

We allow new upstream releases for certain projects because of a certain trust
shift - for upstream projects that have a sufficient quality assurance story
and clear bugfix policy, we allow updating the whole version instead of
requiring testing of every single change separately. Basically this is this
section of the policy, even though it's a bit vague:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#New_upstream_microreleases

In this case, when the upstream branch of libreoffice is EOL and us
switching to an unofficial branch with fixes, I think we no longer fit
this policy. We can put certain level of trust to upstream developers
preparing upstream releases, by shifting trust to upstream we can skip
certain parts of our SRU review and verification, simply assuming that -
for instance - the bugfixes listed in the changes are accurate with
what's actually in the tarball. I don't think we can say the same thing
about a version that is officially EOL in the mind of upstream. We
certainly can't blindly trust what's in that codebase, and therefore
just running the usual 'autopkgtests' + usual test-case won't work from
the SRU perspective, sadly.

In this case, I think I only see two options:
a) Switching users of focal to a non-EOL version of libreoffice. This would of
course require much more testing (maybe even a call for testing from other
users), but as you already mentioned on IRC: there is risk that user extensions
would be broken by this. And I think regressing existing users might be a
breach of policy as well... so I'm not sure we can pull this off.
b) Cherry-picking *single fixes* from the aforementioned MIMO branch, each fix
having a separate test-case i.e. following the regular per-bugfix SRU policy.

I know this situation is not ideal, but I don't think we can
realistically do much more. We can pull in more SRU members for comment
though, maybe someone would have a better idea.

[Bug 1930573] Re: usrmerge error after upgradingfrom 20.10 to 21.04

2021-10-26 Thread Lukas Märdian
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * Starting with Ubuntu Hirsute, the 'usrmerge' package is pulled into
+ the default installation, doing the merging of /{bin,sbin,lib}/ and
+ /usr/{bin,sbin,lib} on upgrade. If there are left-over generated files
+ it will fail with an error like this:
+
+ Setting up usrmerge (24ubuntu3) ...
+
+ FATAL ERROR:
+ Both /lib/udev/hwdb.bin and /usr/lib/udev/hwdb.bin exist.
+
+
+ The upgrade has completed but there were errors during the upgrade
+ process.
+
+ * We want a fix in Hirsute+ that clears the old location (e.g.
+ /lib/udev/hwdb.bin) if the file has already been re-generated at the new
+ location (e.g. /usr/lib/udev/hwdb.bin).
+
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ Prepare a recent, but non-usrmerge'd system (e.g. launch Bionic and upgrade
to Focal then Hirsute):
+ $ lxc launch ubuntu:bionic usrmerge
+ # do-release-upgrade
+ [...]
+ # reboot
+ # ls -la / # to make sure that /lib is not (yet) a link to /usr/lib
+
+ Simulate duplicated generated files & upgrade:
+ # mkdir -p /usr/lib/udev && cp /lib/udev/hwdb.bin /usr/lib/udev/
+ # vim /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades # change to "Prompt=normal"
+ # do-release-upgrade
+ [...]
+ => Upgrade fails, press "C" to cancel bug report
+ => "The upgrade has completed but there were errors during the upgrade
process."
+
+ Verify that the script still fails:
+ # /usr/lib/usrmerge/convert-usrmerge
+ FATAL ERROR:
+ Both /lib/udev/hwdb.bin and /usr/lib/udev/hwdb.bin exist.
+
+ Install relevant usrmerge package:

+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ * The upload modifies the convert-usrmerge script, adding special handling
for certain, generated files.
+ * If something goes wrong, it could delete the wrong state of udev's hwdb
which would be re-generated by systemd-hwdb-update.service
+ * It could also interrupt the upgrade processes on installation of the
usrmerge package, asking the user for manual action (e.g. solving some file
conflict and re-running /usr/lib/usrmerge/convert-usrmerge)

[Bug 1946520] Re: magic-proxy does not gracefully handle error conditions

2021-10-26 Thread Thomas Bechtold
** Description changed:

- During an impish build of ubuntu-cpc images with magic-proxy enabled,
- the installation of certain packages tried to reach an internet endpoint
- (specifically http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/instance-id -
- which appears to be used for EC2 metadata)
+ [Impact]
+ The fixes for this bug (including the fixes for LP:#1944906) need to be
backported to hirsute, focal and bionic) to be able to re-enable the
"repo-snapshot-stamp" feature for image builds. That feature is important to
get consistent image builds (means the same set of packages included in the
different images) when doing multiple builds (eg. for AWS, Azure and GCE).
+
+ [Test plan]
+ 1) sudo iptables -v -t nat -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -m owner ! --uid-owner
daemon -j REDIRECT --to 8080
+ 2) sudo ./magic-proxy --address="127.0.0.1" --port=8080 --run-as=daemon
--cutoff-time=1632467595 --setsid --log-file mp.log
+ 3) curl http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/instance-id
+ (there should be no route to that host to trigger the error case, so don't do
that in an EC2 instance)
+ 4) sudo killall magic-proxy
+ 5) cat mp.log
+ 6) The problem "AttributeError: 'TimeoutError' object has no attribute
'replace'" should not be in the logfile
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ The codepath that will be changed is only executed in livecd-rootfs if the
repo-snapshot-stamp feature is enabled. AFAIK this is only enabled for CPC
builds so if there are problems, it will only affect CPC team builds. And
there, builds (at least for AWS) are currently broken anyway due to this bug.

Can you re-share the details from

The issue still persists with kernel 5.13 and the impish driver
Why doesn't the maintainers of this driver use some of the code of tomaspinho
driver? I read on Linux Mint forum that some people got bluetooth working with

Attached a new debdiff against 3.5.99.26-4.

I have just rebuilt it in my ppa [1] and tested it at runtime against
latest Jammy RISCV image on the unmatched board.

Upstream answered last week and was simply expecting a proof that it
works at runtime, which @ginggs provided [2].

[Bug 1948764] Re: Fail to pass suspend/resume test

2021-10-26 Thread ethan.hsieh
[Regression potential]
1. Fail to login to Ubuntu desktop environment
The issue can be fixed by the config below
/etc/X11/Xwrapper.config: needs_root_rights = yes
2. Canonical QA has ran graphic related test cases without any regression issue.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  Fail to pass suspend/resume test

  [Test Case]
  ### Run suspend/resume stress test on Xilinx ZCU boards.
  #/bin/bash
  for i in {1..30};
  do
- echo "Iteration $i"
- sudo rtcwake -v -m no -s 240
- sudo systemctl suspend
- sleep 120
+ echo "Iteration $i"
+ sudo rtcwake -v -m no -s 240
+ sudo systemctl suspend
+ sleep 120
  done

  [Expected result]
  Pass the suspend/resume stress test

  [Actual result]
System stopped running the next suspend iteration during the suspend stress
test. When system stopped running suspend iterations, the display from DP
monitor no longer shows gnome desktop but terminal instead, and no more
operation could be done from USB-HID device, while serial console is still
operable.

2021-10-26 Thread ethan.hsieh
The issue is caused by Implement-platform-Probe-driver-call.patch in the
package.
This issue is gone after removing Implement-platform-Probe-driver-call.patch.
Have to force Xorg running as root after removing this patch.
/etc/X11/Xwrapper.config: needs_root_rights = yes

[Bug 1948767] [NEW] Fail to detect audio output from external monitor

2021-10-26 Thread Chris Chiu
Public bug reported:

[SRU Justification]

[Impact]
Few recent AMD systems shows "snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: azx_get_response
timeout" and fail to detect the HDMI/DP audio output device when connects to
external monitor. It will work magically when re-loading the driver.

[Fix]
Backport the upstream fix c0f1886de7e1 ("Allow repeatedly probing on codec
configuration errors) from 5.15.0 rc. It adds the capability for retrying the
probe upon codec probe errors on the certain AMD platforms.

[Test]
1. Connect the external monitor to particular affected AMD systems with HDMI or
DisplayPort.
2. Go to Audio Settings to check if the HDMI/DP audio output device exist or
not.

[Where problems could occur]
Should be low risk, it adds the chance for retrying codec probe and won't
affect machines which used to work.

== Original Bug Description ==

Can not detect DP audio output
[Steps to reproduce]
1) install dell-bto-focal-fossa-grimer-rkl-X72-20210929-8.iso and boot into OS
2) switch to on-demand mode
3) connect an external monitor via DP Port
4) check sound setting --> Output Device
5) switch to performance mode
6) check sound setting --> Output Device

[Expected result]
System can detect DP audio output when external monitor connected

[Actual result]
Can not detect DP audio output
This issue can be reproduce in on-demand and performance mode.
[Failure rate]
1/1

[Bug 1948764] [NEW] Fail to pass suspend/resume test

2021-10-26 Thread ethan.hsieh
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Fail to pass suspend/resume test

[Test Case]
### Run suspend/resume stress test on Xilinx ZCU boards.
#/bin/bash
for i in {1..30};
do
echo "Iteration $i"
sudo rtcwake -v -m no -s 240
sudo systemctl suspend
sleep 120
done

[Expected result]
Pass the suspend/resume stress test

[Actual result]
System stopped running the next suspend iteration during the suspend stress
test. When system stopped running suspend iterations, the display from DP
monitor no longer shows gnome desktop but terminal instead, and no more
operation could be done from USB-HID device, while serial console is still
operable.
