[Bug 1950706] Re: VMs running under qemu+kvm can't use xsaves processor feature

2021-11-15 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
To help this a bit, the two commits I've seen (there might be others) are
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=52297436199dd
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=7204160eb7809

Of those the former is in Focals 5.4 since Ubuntu-kvm-5.4.0-1036.37
The latter is missing.

Unless the kernel Team says other commits are needed making this too
complex maybe a Focal 5.4 kernel with the second commit backported would
allo Aaron to test if this commit is enough on his HW?

OTOH the second commit should actually only cache the value, so maybe
there are other commits needed anyway, I haven't have more time to look
for less obvious commits and the kernel team will be better in
doing so anyway.

@manolo once the fix is applied to the generic kernel all the other
derivatives will be updated as well. About the ISO I need to check, it'd
make sense to update that as well, since there's a critical boot problem

I have, but it is extremely user-unfriendly and unless you are looking
up this bug report, you would never know how to do it. Even then, the
notes in comment #87 are not the complete instructions.

Basically, this method is a dirty workaround of a patch job that needs
to be truly fixed in both the backend and the UI. The method used to get
and capture the key is not graceful, and the UI is plain incorrect.

I would fix it myself if it was something that had the skill to do (I
love open source software for that!), but I do not feel comfortable in
my skill level making those modifications. Instead, I have pointed this
very skilled and talented community to another piece of open-source
software that has done a very good job at tackling this issue for not
only Google Drive, but also for numerous other cloud storage vendors.
Their code base is mature, and the capabilities of that tool complement
what users of this project need.

In reality, the project might even look at integrating that tool's
functionality into this one, similar to how other modules have become
standard within the software. Spell checking is one function that comes
to mind.

I see this as an opportunity to potentially have one community help
another, giving them both a way to learn from the other's work and
experience. Isn't that one of the main benefits of being open source?

[Bug 1950706] Re: VMs running under qemu+kvm can't use xsaves processor feature

2021-11-15 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thanks for trying these different things Aaron,
by that test result that means that we are actually looking for a kernel
commit/fix.

The HWE kernel is, among other things, meant to provide new features and
better support for new hardware - so in your case you can just continue
to use that.

@Kernel Team - I'd still ask you to check if there is an individual
patch for xsaves on those chips that would make sense to backport to the
non-HWE Focal kernel - added a bug task for that?

[Bug 1950777] Re: Glusterfs 1.0 breaks libvirt tests on s390x

2021-11-15 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
This is now fixed in Debian-unstable and Jammy-proposed.
It doesn't have to go to -release to consider it fixed.
The old version 9.x currently in -release didn't have the issue and the version
now in -proposed is fixed as well. Therefore this can be considered
fix-released for Jammy.

[Bug 1951054] [NEW] libnginx-mod-http-lua at ubuntu impish

2021-11-15 Thread KusakabeSi
Public bug reported:

According this:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all=names=libnginx-
mod-http-lua

this module: `libnginx-mod-http-lua` just no longer available in newer
version of ubuntu (newer than hirsute).

But I didn't see any news of it. My software stack just broken after I
upgrade my ubuntu.

Will it add back again in ubuntu 22.04? or it just no longer supported by
ubuntu team.
If that, is there any record of the decision of remove the package
`libnginx-mod-http-lua`?

1) Ubuntu 21.10
2) (Package not installed)
3) libnginx-mod-http-lua installable
4) Package 'libnginx-mod-http-lua' has no installation candidate

[Bug 1950721] Re: Re-enable CONFIG_PINCTRL_ELKHARTLAKE

2021-11-15 Thread Anthony Wong
** Description changed:

We have test BIOS now for supporting pinctrl. From what we learnt, ODMs
also got the BIOS fix, it's now time to re-enable this kernel config.
+
+ [Impact]
+ Without this fix, pinctrl functionality will be missing.
+
+ [Test plan]
+ 1. Make sure the computer has a BIOS that supports pinctrl for EHL
+ 2. Before installing the new kernel, GPIO should not work
+ 3. Install the new kernel, and confirm GPIO works
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ If the computer does not have a BIOS that support pinctrl, you will get an
error like "kernel NULL pointer dereference in intel_pinctrl_get_soc_data"
during system boot.

2021-11-15 Thread Claudio Kuenzler

service docker stop is part of the general clean up strategies, for
Rancher related Docker hosts anyway (see

would also throw a ton of errors, if Docker service would still be

[Bug 1950929] Re: X2go Session Boxes Pulldowns Don't Work and Display 1 Gone

2021-11-15 Thread Robert Dinse
It must be one of the dependencies at fault. I have 21.04 still installed, it
has the exact same version of x2go-client, 4.1.2.2 and same version of QT,
5.15.2, as does 21.10, yet, the pulldowns
work on 21.04 but do not work on 21.10, it is the same /home directory on both
as well so all of the user configuration is the same.

Test on the target machine that this meta supports, install 20.04.3 iso,
apt update/upgrade

Then turn-on proposed chanell,

# ubuntu-driver install

does properly install the meta from the proposed channel, and also
properly automatically install the OEM source list, install the
corresponding deb from there.

Given so, I'll tag verified-done.

[Bug 1950751] Re: docker.io 20.10.x does not create sub-directories in /var/lib/docker on start (but does on restart)

2021-11-15 Thread Tianon Gravi
In your second (working) example, I see you run "service docker stop"
before deleting the contents of "/var/lib/docker" but I do not see that
in your first example, which would definitely explain the behavior you
see ("service docker start" would be a no-op because Docker's already
running, and you've just yanked out all the data from underneath it, so
it's not very surprising that it sees errors trying to access said
data).

[Bug 1950855] Re: Can't enable snap to print on a usb printer

2021-11-15 Thread Alex Murray
I think @mardy meant:

journalctl -t audit

And to only show messages from the current boot cycle, not the entire
history, you can run it as:

journalctl -t audit -b0

You can manually edit the apparmor profile for cura-slicer to add this
access and see if it helps - add a line like the following to
/var/lib/snapd/apparmor/profiles/snap.cura-slicer.cura - add it just
before the closing brace }

/sys/devices/pnp[0-9]*/*/id r,

Then reload the apparmor policy for the snap:

sudo apparmor_parser -r /var/lib/snapd/apparmor/profiles/snap.cura-
slicer.cura

And retry the application and see if that helps?

[Bug 1951033] [NEW] 20.04 SRU

2021-11-15 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

[impact]
It is time to update glibc in Focal. This bug is a placeholder for the overall
process and a place to link the individual bugs that are being targeted:

#1928508 Performance regression on memcpy() calls for AMD Zen
#1899800 Runtime deadlock: pthread_cond_signal failed to wake up
pthread_cond_wait due to a bug in undoing stealing
#1892825 update-locale not perform correctly sanity checks
#1918035 ld-2.31.so is not correctly packaged in libc6-dbg
 #1951032 AArch64: Backport memcpy improvements

[test case]
TBD.

[regression potential]
Rebuilding glibc is always a little risky (toolchain bugs and incompatibilities
between the old and new versions can be surprising). The autopkgtests and the
testing described above

[Bug 1951032] Re: AArch64: Backport memcpy improvements

2021-11-15 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
** Description changed:

  [impact]
glibc 2.32 contained a number of improvements to the memcpy routines for
server-grade AArch64 implementations (in particular, graviton2 & graviton3).
They should be backported to focal, as the LTS releases are by far the most
used on servers.

  [test case]
- TBD.
+ The testcase from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/focal/+source/glibc/+bug/1928508 can be used
for this too.

  [regression potential]
Rebuilding glibc is always a little risky (toolchain bugs and
incompatibilities between the old and new versions can be surprising). But the
autopkgtests and some manual general testing can help here.

For this specific change, there is a potential risk that the new memcpy
implementation could be used on a system where it is not in fact the
fastest. We should run the test case not only on the systems where it is
expected to help, but other systems such as the RPi4 and the launchpad
build farm to ensure performance is not regressed there.

[Bug 1951029] [NEW] ftbfs (ppc64el): incompatible gcc usage due to swig

2021-11-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Because ruby on ppc64el is using a non-default gcc, swig builds of ruby
modules on this architecture fail due to LTO incompatibilities between
the objects:

lto1: fatal error: bytecode stream in file '.libs/swigutil_rb.o'
generated with LTO version 9.4 instead of the expected 11.2

This problem should go away when ruby 3.0 becomes the default and there
is no longer an override of the compiler used.

[Bug 1950859] Re: Ubuntu installation failure - Vaio Nvidia and RAID connected to the problem

2021-11-15 Thread Gui Badoux
Hi Steve,
The version is Lubuntu 15.4. When I tried to upgrade this OS, a message
appeared saying "to old for upgrade. Install the version 15.10". So I will
download Lubuntu 15.10 and give a try.
"Nvidia pilot" means "Nvidia driver", yes indeed.
I took some pictures of the error messages appearing during the installation.
The only working installation was the Lubuntu 15.4. To get there, I erased the
four SSD disks (after removing the RAID0 from the BIOS). Then I formatted the
SSD disk0 with the option "bootable" activated.
Each other installation (like the Ubuntu 20.04) done on top of this first
installation failed. I tried the two options: "install aside of the previous
OS" and "Replace previous OS".

[Bug 1574582] Re: HP lt4120 Snapdragon X5 LTE USB modem not recognized by network-manager

2021-11-15 Thread Mike
This is not a NetworkManager problem. It is also reported by me in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1950385
and it is probably kernel bug.
The problem is described by ModemManager's developer in our discussion:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/issues/463#note_1157289
 as a broken USB communication.
According to diagnosis from kernel 5.1x the qmi_wwan module resets modem
firmware in endless loop:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/issues/463#note_1157919
although it was worked flawlessly earlier in kernel 5.8.x

The workaround is to use udev script for a modem to switch it to the MBIM mode
which works ok under ModemManager & NetworkManager. Reboot. Recreate connection
profile for modem in Network Manager Mobile Broadband Settings for your GSM
Network Provider to make it binded with new MBiM devid config.
Tested on kernels 5.8, 5,11, 5.13.

Place the attached udev script file in: /etc/udev/rules.d instead of any
old one. It uses usb_modeswitch to do the "magic" correctly.

[Bug 1951018] [NEW] No ability to discern IPv4 vs IPv6 rules through Python

2021-11-15 Thread Kevin Tate
Public bug reported:

Version: ufw 0.36
Ubuntu Version: 20.04.3 LTS

There doesn't appear to be a Python method for accessing IPv4 and IPv6
rules in a distinguishable manner.

In the source code (root/src/backend.py) there is an object that stores
IPv4 and IPv6 rules in separate lists. Those lists are then accessed
with the following method:

def get_rules(self):
'''Return list of all rules'''
return self.rules + self.rules6

The issue with this is that the returned list doesn't contain an
indication of what IP version each item corresponds to and would display
something like the following.

1 allow 22/tcp
2 allow 80
3 allow 443
4 allow 22/tcp
5 allow 80
6 allow 443

I don't currently see a way to distinguish between IPv4 and IPv6 rules other
than accessing the lists in the backend object directly (but I don't think this
is best practice). E.g.:
rules_ipv4 = backend.rules
rules_ipv6 = backend.rules6

One possible fix would be to add functions that return only the IPv4 or IPv6
rules. E.g.:
def get_rules_ipv4(self):
'''Return list of all ipv4 rules'''
return self.rules
def get_rules_ipv6(self):
'''Return list of all ipv6 rules'''
return self.rules6

[Bug 1951015] [NEW] Package is uninstallable because libwbclient-sssd doesn't exist anymore

2021-11-15 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Public bug reported:

The latest version of sssd in Ubuntu (2.5.2-4ubuntu1) drops the
libwbclient-sssd binary package due to upstream's decision:

https://github.com/SSSD/sssd/releases/tag/2.5.0

"* SSSD's implementation of libwbclient was removed as incompatible
with modern version of Samba."

This makes freeipa-client-samba uninstallable, because it depends on
that package.

I think the best approach here is to make freeipa-client-samba depend on
libwbclient-dev instead, which is samba's libwbclient version.

I proposed a Merge Request against freeipa on Debian here:

https://salsa.debian.org/freeipa-team/freeipa/-/merge_requests/1

I will propose adding the same change as an Ubuntu delta for now in
order to unblock sssd in update-excuses.

[Bug 1945565] Re: [SRU] Revert amdgpu/renoir firmware

2021-11-15 Thread xalt7x
I tested 2 laptops with Ryzen 5 5500U (HP Pavilion & ASUS Zenbook). Both of
them can't resume from s2idle with linux-firmware v1.187.20. With HP Pavilion I
also tried v1.187.15 and v1.187.19. In all cases when you press button to
resume laptop from s2idle, power button changes state from a "a slow blink" to
constant lighting. But screen doesn't turn on, keyboard doesn't react, SSH
doesn't work etc. The only way is to force shut down.
On the other hand linux-firmware v1.187.16 & v1.187.17 work fine (I didn't test
typeC dongles).
Dear maintainers, could you please reintroduce "renoir firmware from 21.20" for
Focal?

Re: [Bug 1949618] Re: system locks up when selection one of top 2 items in dash

2021-11-15 Thread Robert E. Novak
Sorry I missed the name change.  I was having trouble finding references
that described the changes in names for screen elements.  I am referring
to the top icons in the left hand toolbar/launcher, not the top task
bar.  The attached picture should help.
