[Bug 1950706] Re: VMs running under qemu+kvm can't use xsaves processor feature
To help this a bit, the two commits I've seen (there might be others) are https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=52297436199dd https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=7204160eb7809 Of those the former is in Focals 5.4 since Ubuntu-kvm-5.4.0-1036.37 The latter is missing. Unless the kernel Team says other commits are needed making this too complex maybe a Focal 5.4 kernel with the second commit backported would allo Aaron to test if this commit is enough on his HW? OTOH the second commit should actually only cache the value, so maybe there are other commits needed anyway, I haven't have more time to look for less obvious commits and the kernel team will be better in doing so anyway. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1950706 Title: VMs running under qemu+kvm can't use xsaves processor feature To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1950706/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Even then, the notes in comment #87 are not the complete instructions. Basically, this method is a dirty workaround of a patch job that needs to be truly fixed in both the backend and the UI. The method used to get and capture the key is not graceful, and the UI is plain incorrect. I would fix it myself if it was something that had the skill to do (I love open source software for that!), but I do not feel comfortable in my skill level making those modifications. Instead, I have pointed this very skilled and talented community to another piece of open-source software that has done a very good job at tackling this issue for not only Google Drive, but also for numerous other cloud storage vendors. Their code base is mature, and the capabilities of that tool complement what users of this project need. In reality, the project might even look at integrating that tool's functionality into this one, similar to how other modules have become standard within the software. Spell checking is one function that comes to mind. I see this as an opportunity to potentially have one community help another, giving them both a way to learn from the other's work and experience. [Bug 1951032] Re: AArch64: Backport memcpy improvements
** Description changed: [impact] glibc 2.32 contained a number of improvements to the memcpy routines for server-grade AArch64 implementations (in particular, graviton2 & graviton3). They should be backported to focal, as the LTS releases are by far the most used on servers. [test case] - TBD. + The testcase from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/focal/+source/glibc/+bug/1928508 can be used for this too. [regression potential] Rebuilding glibc is always a little risky (toolchain bugs and incompatibilities between the old and new versions can be surprising). But the autopkgtests and some manual general testing can help here. For this specific change, there is a potential risk that the new memcpy implementation could be used on a system where it is not in fact the fastest. We should run the test case not only on the systems where it is expected to help, but other systems such as the RPi4 and the launchpad build farm to ensure performance is not regressed there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1951032 Title: AArch64: Backport memcpy improvements To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1951032/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Steve, The version is Lubuntu 15.4. When I tried to upgrade this OS, a message appeared saying "to old for upgrade. Install the version 15.10". So I will download Lubuntu 15.10 and give a try. "Nvidia pilot" means "Nvidia driver", yes indeed. I took some pictures of the error messages appearing during the installation. The only working installation was the Lubuntu 15.4. To get there, I erased the four SSD disks (after removing the RAID0 from the BIOS). Then I formatted the SSD disk0 with the option "bootable" activated. Each other installation (like the Ubuntu 20.04) done on top of this first installation failed. I tried the two options: "install aside of the previous OS" and "Replace previous OS". ** Attachment added: "TPM chip error" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1950859/+attachment/5541071/+files/WP_2024_12_02_23_Pro.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1950859 Title: Ubuntu installation failure - Vaio Nvidia and RAID connected to the problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1950859/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

According to diagnosis from kernel 5.1x the qmi_wwan module resets modem firmware in endless loop: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/issues/463#note_1157919 although it was worked flawlessly earlier in kernel 5.8.x The workaround is to use udev script for a modem to switch it to the MBIM mode which works ok under ModemManager & NetworkManager. Reboot. Recreate connection profile for modem in Network Manager Mobile Broadband Settings for your GSM Network Provider to make it binded with new MBiM devid config. Tested on kernels 5.8, 5,11, 5.13. Place the attached udev script file in: /etc/udev/rules.d instead of any old one. It uses usb_modeswitch to do the "magic" correctly. ** Attachment removed: "Udev script for switching modem" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1574582/+attachment/5541060/+files/99-hp-lt4120.rules ** Attachment added: "udev script for modem" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1574582/+attachment/5541062/+files/99-hp-lt4120.rules -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574582 Title: HP lt4120 Snapdragon X5 LTE USB modem not recognized by network- manager To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1574582/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1951018] [NEW] No ability to discern IPv4 vs IPv6 rules through Python
Public bug reported: Version: ufw 0.36 Ubuntu Version: 20.04.3 LTS There doesn't appear to be a Python method for accessing IPv4 and IPv6 rules in a distinguishable manner. In the source code (root/src/backend.py) there is an object that stores IPv4 and IPv6 rules in separate lists. Those lists are then accessed with the following method: def get_rules(self): '''Return list of all rules''' return self.rules + self.rules6 The issue with this is that the returned list doesn't contain an indication of what IP version each item corresponds to and would display something like the following. 1 allow 22/tcp 2 allow 80 3 allow 443 4 allow 22/tcp 5 allow 80 6 allow 443 I don't currently see a way to distinguish between IPv4 and IPv6 rules other than accessing the lists in the backend object directly (but I don't think this is best practice). E.g.: rules_ipv4 = backend.rules rules_ipv6 = backend.rules6 One possible fix would be to add functions that return only the IPv4 or IPv6 rules. E.g.: def get_rules_ipv4(self): '''Return list of all ipv4 rules''' return self.rules def get_rules_ipv6(self): '''Return list of all ipv6 rules''' return self.rules6 ** Affects: ufw (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1951018 Title: No ability to discern IPv4 vs IPv6 rules through Python To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ufw/+bug/1951018/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1951015] [NEW] Package is uninstallable because libwbclient-sssd doesn't exist anymore
Public bug reported: The latest version of sssd in Ubuntu (2.5.2-4ubuntu1) drops the libwbclient-sssd binary package due to upstream's decision: https://github.com/SSSD/sssd/releases/tag/2.5.0 "* SSSD's implementation of libwbclient was removed as incompatible with modern version of Samba." This makes freeipa-client-samba uninstallable, because it depends on that package. I think the best approach here is to make freeipa-client-samba depend on libwbclient-dev instead, which is samba's libwbclient version. I proposed a Merge Request against freeipa on Debian here: https://salsa.debian.org/freeipa-team/freeipa/-/merge_requests/1 I will propose adding the same change as an Ubuntu delta for now in order to unblock sssd in update-excuses. ** Affects: freeipa (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Sergio Durigan Junior (sergiodj) Status: Confirmed ** Affects: sssd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Tags: update-excuse ** Also affects: sssd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: sssd (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1951015 Title: Package is uninstallable because libwbclient-sssd doesn't exist anymore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freeipa/+bug/1951015/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1945565] Re: [SRU] Revert amdgpu/renoir firmware
I tested 2 laptops with Ryzen 5 5500U (HP Pavilion & ASUS Zenbook). Both of them can't resume from s2idle with linux-firmware v1.187.20. With HP Pavilion I also tried v1.187.15 and v1.187.19. In all cases when you press button to resume laptop from s2idle, power button changes state from a "a slow blink" to constant lighting. But screen doesn't turn on, keyboard doesn't react, SSH doesn't work etc. The only way is to force shut down. On the other hand linux-firmware v1.187.16 & v1.187.17 work fine (I didn't test typeC dongles). Sorry I missed the name change. I was having trouble finding references that described the changes in names for screen elements.
