[Bug 1871849] Re: Full screen videos suddenly change scale when using fractional scaling

2021-11-24 Thread Mutlu Can YILMAZ
This cause Steam, Dolphin and Lutris/Wine games not to cover all the
screen/looks cropped. It also causes screens to go black. Moreover,
multi-monitor settings also randomly change.

Hmm.. That seems to be bug #1945811, and it looks like merging libnet-
ssleay-perl with Debian may fix it.

[Bug 1951993] Re: aptdaemon FTBFS with python3.10

2021-11-24 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
As an experiment I built libnet-ssleay-perl in a jammy-proposed PPA with
the tests disabled. Then I could successfully build aptdaemon in that
PPA.

https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/aptdaemon3/+packages

This confirms that the python-defer changes fix aptdaemon's original
python related test failures.

But now we have a libnet-ssleay-perl FTBFS to deal with.

Can confirm same issue here when set to S3(Linux only). Same problem
also happens in windows - so this is a hardware issue.

I had strange issues when using a non-stock charger as well (lagged but
in a different way).

You replied, "sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review

posted to in over 10 years.

Pretty sure that isn't relevant anymore. I stopped using Linux around 10
years ago...

The cron jobs that build the dailies stagger the various flavours at
different times across the day. i.e. xubuntu is about 2am, kubuntu 5am
(ish), ubuntu 8am etc.

The fixed ubiquity did not hit the release pocket until about 3am on the
24th, so the xubuntu build that day would have just missed picking it up.

[Bug 1952164] Re: cups.path repeatedly goes into systemd failed state

2021-11-24 Thread Todd Taft
Discovered this was a system-wide problem, not specifically related to cups.
Backup program was holding open a very high number if inotify watches and this
was causing issues for other programs (including cups).
Solution was to add a conf file in /etc/sysctl.d that set a higher value for
fs.inotify.max_user_watches than the default (and then force a reload).

In my case, this seems to work:
echo "fs.inotify.max_user_watches=131072" >> /etc/sysctl.d/999-local.conf
sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.d/999-local.conf

Note that this solution may cause other issues on systems with low
memory.

[Bug 1926165] Re: Bass speakers not enabled on Lenovo Yoga 9i

2021-11-24 Thread Nicholas Garth
Thanks for posting the fix, I tired it out on my Yoga 9 14ITL5 on both
the Fedora 35 5.14.18-300.fc35.x86_64 kernel and the Ubuntu 21.10
5.13.0-19-generic kernel with minimal luck. With DAC1 and DAC2 at
maximum, the rear speaker sounds like nothing is coming out of it. When
DAC1 is turned down to 0, there is audio coming out of the rear speaker,
however, the audio output quality is rather poor and tinny.

Looking at the kernel source,
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/9ebaef0540a981093bce5df15af32354d32391d9
it appears that the kernel version the fix was first released in was
5.13rc4 and looks to appear in all newer tags, so the fix should be in
use on my system. Based on the experiences shown above, what I'm
experiencing doesn't seem to be the right behaviour.

[Bug 1948764] Re: Fail to pass suspend/resume test

2021-11-24 Thread ethan.hsieh
@Robie

The image[1] released by Canonical for Xilinx boards is the only one
image which pre-loads this package. The users I mentioned are Xilinx
board users. Sorry, I didn't use words precisely.

xf86-video-armsoc-endlessm was created for Xilinx boards (zcu102/104/106
and Kria) with mali GPU. Several patches in this package and the mali
driver in linux-xilinx-zynqmp are from Xilinx. Some extra gdm3 and xorg
config files are also required for enabling mali GPU. It's a customized
package for Xilinx boards with mali GPU.

You're right. The package is public. Everyone can download it from
Ubuntu-archive. But, if users want to use this package on other boards
with mali GPU, they need to take many efforts to integrate and verify it
on their boards. Meanwhile, there is already another package called
xf86-video-armsoc[2] for other boards with mali GPU. And, this package
(1.4.1-0ubuntu6~20.04) was released to focal on 06/17 2021. It seems to
me that it has very low risk to backport 1.4.1-0ubuntu8 to focal.

[Bug 1952154] Re: [HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC, IDT 92HD75B3X5, Speaker, Internal] Pulseaudio fails to detect card

2021-11-24 Thread yehia2amer
It turns out that after following the below guide, I found that another package
called timidity is conflicting with PulseAudio and causing it to fail detecting
my audio devices.
So I uninstalled it and PulseAudio is now working fine.

sudo apt-get remove timidity

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting#The_only_device_shown_is_%22dummy_output%22_or_newly_connected_cards_are_not_detected

I ran this command:
HP-Pavilion-dv6-Notebook-PC:~$ sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
 USERPID ACCESS COMMAND
/dev/snd/controlC0:timidity852F timidity
/dev/snd/controlC1:rana 7346 F pulseaudio

[Bug 1933880] Re: systemd-logind crash when suspend with nvidia-suspend.service masked, bringing session down with it

2021-11-24 Thread apienk
For me, with nvidia-driver-495, the simple solution was to remove the
damaged symlinks from systemd. You most likely have them if you upgraded
from nvidia-driver-470 or nvidia-driver-465, because 470 still included
the .service files in /lib/systemd/system/. The files are no longer
included in 495 but the postinst script does not remove the symlinks.
So, remove them with:

sudo rm
/etc/systemd/system/systemd-hibernate.service.requires/nvidia-resume.service
sudo rm
/etc/systemd/system/systemd-hibernate.service.requires/nvidia-hibernate.service
sudo rm
/etc/systemd/system/systemd-suspend.service.requires/nvidia-resume.service
sudo rm
/etc/systemd/system/systemd-suspend.service.requires/nvidia-suspend.service

Works instantly, no need of rebooting or logging off.

According to user punyidea at
https://gist.github.com/bmcbm/375f14eaa17f88756b4bdbbebbcfd029, the
services are not needed on 470 either and may be safely removed.

Hope that will fix your problems as well.

In *your* use case I'm sure this is true. But this package ships in
Ubuntu for everyone, not just for you or your customer. Please provide a
credible explanation of *why* you think there are no other users, rather
than just asserting this to be true.

[Bug 1952153] [NEW] [EHL][TGL][ADL] power management controller driver enabling

2021-11-24 Thread Alex Hung
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

The patches enable power management controller supports.

[Fix]

The driver is the Kernel gateway to the PMC hardware for Intel
processors and it provides debug hooks to developers and end-users to
quickly figure out why their platform is not entering a deeper idle
state such as S0ix.

[Test]

This is requested by Intel.

[Where problems could occur]

Only applicable on Intel ElkhartLake / TigerLake / AlderLake. Further
testing will be required.

+ Each bug listed above has its own test case, of course. And glibc's own test
case and the autopkgtests provide a good deal of assurance that things are
working. But there are still some additional things we should test by hand.
+
+ 1. We should test upgrades interactively in a container and vm and make sure
long running processes still function so you can still ssh in and a desktop
session continues to operate as expected.
+ 2. We should build a core20 snap with the glibc from focal-proposed into a
branch and test it with a variety of core20 snaps.

  [regression potential]
- Rebuilding glibc is always a little risky (toolchain bugs and
incompatibilities between the old and new versions can be surprising). The
autopkgtests and the testing described above
+ Rebuilding glibc is always a little risky (toolchain bugs and
incompatibilities between the old and new versions can be surprising). The
autopkgtests and the testing described above.
+
+ The biggest source of problems recently has been around upgrades and
+ interactions between the old and new libcs, whether that is different
+ versions of libc6 in a snap and its base or when an long running process
+ has the older version mapped but interacts with artefacts from the newer
+ version on disk. The tests in this bug are designed to catch any of
+ these problems before it gets to updates.

[Bug 1951476] Re: apache2: mod_ssl fails to load with OpenSSL 3.0

2021-11-24 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
I worked on this a little bit.

I backported the 10 patches that are currently present in the PR
mentioned above (https://github.com/apache/httpd/pull/258), and verified
that they seem to address the problem, at least in the sense that they
make mod_ssl loadable again when using OpenSSL 3.

I ran apache2's autopkgtests and most of them succeeded; the only
failure I'm seeing is actually not related to apache2, and is instead a
problem with an uninstallable package currently in jammy-proposed.

The situation here is very similar to what's happening with net-snmp and
squid: there are upstream patches that can "fix" the compatibility issue
with OpenSSL, but upstream is still not entirely comfortable with them.
In apache2's case, this situation a bit more complicated because there
is apparently a behaviour change/regression that has been found with
OpenSSL 3:

https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/15946

I will keep an eye on the progress of apache2's PR and see what happens.
It'd probably be a good idea to have someone from the Security team take
a look at this possible regression and assess it.

[Bug 1951399] Re: Ubuntu, Budgie, Kubuntu, Kylin, MATE, Xubuntu: jammy daily fails to install

2021-11-24 Thread Bob H
@ aigreeny todays Xubuntu was released about five hours before the others, I'm
guessing the corrections that were made later to the other flavours hadn't been
applied that early.
I tested the Xubuntu daily almost as it was released and got a fail too.
I would imagine that, all being well, tomorrows dailies will all pass rock
solid.
...and status will be 'fix released'.

Many thanks to those who worked towards a solution.

[Bug 1952147] [NEW] no way to list drivers "ubuntu-drivers list --gpgpu" will install

2021-11-24 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

I'm pretty sure that "ubuntu-drivers install --gpgpu" will install
something if and only if "ubuntu-drivers list --gpgpu" has non-empty
output, but the logic of which of the things list returns gets installed
seems a bit non-trivial

The context for this is in the server installer, I want to say "we think
you should install nvidia-headless-no-dkms-470-server and linux-modules-
nvidia-470-server-generic", shall we go ahead and install them?

My current spike just says "there are some drivers you might want to
install, shall we install them?" which just seems a bit opaque

Alberto suggested a flag so that I could run "ubuntu-drivers list
--gpgpu --recommended" in the installer. I should just make very clear
that I'd want "ubuntu-drivers list --recommended" (i.e. without --gpgpu)
to work the same way :)

[Bug 1952093] Re: Seeded snaps broken in the Focal dailies

2021-11-24 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
** Also affects: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu Focal)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

+ [impact]
In the recent focal-live-server-amd64 dailies, e.g. in:

  Ubuntu-Server 20.04.3 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20211124)

some snap related errors are printed to the terminal at boot time, and
then subiquity doesn't start. Jumping to tty2 and doing a simple

- systemctl status snapd
+   systemctl status snapd

shows that snapd complains about the state of the core18 snap, and
indeed /snap/core18/current/ is empty. Reinstalling core18 and
refreshing subiquity from the candidate channel makes it start normally.
This looks like a problem in the snap seeding.
+
+ This turns out to be because the core18_*.snap file is missing from the
+ live layer, thanks to some over enthusiastic cleanup in a livecd-rootfs
+ hook.
+
+ [test case]
+ build a focal live-server iso with livecd-rootfs. check it boots.
+
+ [regression potential]
+ the fix touches a hook that only runs for live-server builds, so even if
buggy it can't really make things worse (as current ISOs are basically
inoperable)

Noticed that perl-openssl-defaults 5build2 provides perl-openssl-abi-3.
So apparently we need a no-change rebuild against openssl3 also for

Giving up for today.

I have uploaded a version to a ppa that resolves the FTBFS, but I fear
it barely scratches the surface of all the OpenSSL v3 changes.

These changes also break compatibility with openssl v2. Some effort to
make it build with either version would be required to upstream the
changes.

[Bug 1950317] Re: [MIR] Wireguard

2021-11-24 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I just realized that we have a better DEP8 test already running, but in
another source package: src:wireguard-linux-compat, which produces
bin:wireguard-dkms. With wireguard now being in the kernel, I wonder if
we still need the dkms one. Maybe for cases where someone wants to try a
newer version before the kernel is updated? Not sure.

In any case, we have good DEP8 coverage already, but split among different
source packages:
- src:wireguard-linux-compat: sets up a wireguard vpn using network namespaces,
and uses ping to test it, similar to what I have done above
- src:wireguard: just generates keys, and that test is marked correctly as
superficial
- src:netplan.io: also sets up a wireguard vpn, and exercises it

These are all run together when a new wireguard upload happens. In that
sense, we have good coverage, even if we decide to drop the dkms
package. The netplan test would still exercise wireguard, but I think it
does not use the wg or wg-quick tools to set it up, so we would still
benefit from having another end-to-end test using those tools. So I can
still add my test to src:wireguard, or copy over the one from
src:wireguard-linux-compat.

[Bug 1951993] Re: aptdaemon FTBFS with python3.10

I just retried (three times), but:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libnet-ssleay-perl : Depends: perl-openssl-abi-1.1
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Suddenly it can't resolve the virtual package perl-openssl-abi-1.1

So it didn't even make it to the tests...

[Bug 1780746] Re: oping (and noping) require root access to run

2021-11-24 Thread Athos Ribeiro
A PPA with the proposed patch is available at

https://launchpad.net/~athos-ribeiro/+archive/ubuntu/liboping-non-
root/+packages

Unfortunately, there is no dep8 test suite for this package.

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ oping and noping needs root access to run. This hinders these tools
+ usage in a given machine, making them useless for some users.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ The bug can be reproduced in a bionic container/vm, with:
+
+ # apt update
+ # apt install -y oping
+ # oping -c1 localhost
+ # noping -c1 localhost
+
+ Verify that the 2 last commands worked as expected
+
+ # adduser -q --disabled-password --gecos reproducer reproducer
+ # su reproducer
+ $ oping -c1 localhost
+ $ noping -c1 localhost
+
+ Verify that the 2 last commands failed with
+
+ "ping_send failed: Operation not permitted"
+
+ After applying the proposed patch, the steps that would fail for the
+ reproducer above, should no longer fail.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ While the same patch is applied over the same version as the one in jammy,
jammy also carry a couple, apparently unrelated, patches. This could lead to
unexpected code paths that were not caught through reviews. Moreover,
+ the bionic package was last built during the artful development cycle, and
new versions of build dependencies are available, which could trigger
unexpected behaviors.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ This has been fixed since focal, therefore, the SRU should only apply to
bionic

[Bug 1952136] [NEW] Hirsute update: upstream stable patchset 2021-11-24

2021-11-24 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

v5.10.74, v5.14.13

Closing as invalid directly then, as it's the wrong place to report and
no data about the crash seems to be available, so waiting 60 days for
