[Bug 1936295] Re: Faulty Elantech Trackpoint firmware unusable as it causes sudden cursor jump to an edge/corner on Lenovo Thinkpad X13, T14s, A475 --> Apply kernel patch to mitigate the FW bug

2021-12-05 Thread GT
Is this patch already included in the Ubuntu 21.10 (Impish Indri) kernel
(in proposed packages) for testing?

I installed the proposed kernel (5.13.0-23-generic) in Impish yesterday
and the bug still exists. I still get sudden cursor jumps.

If the patch is not yet in the Impish proposed kernel, when do you
expect to have an Impish kernel update for testing? Thanks.

[Bug 1951491] Re: Can't run snaps: .slice/session-1.scope is not a snap cgroup

2021-12-05 Thread Maciej Borzecki
Snapd needs to talk to systemd user instance to setup a scope for the
snap. This is done over a session bus.

Is DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS set in your environment? Run `echo
$DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS`, the output should be like
`unix:path=/run/user/NNN/bus` (where NNN is your uid). Can you then run
`ls -l /run/user/NNN/bus` and check if the socket file is there?

[Bug 1953252] Re: Since last three upgrades, by laptop drains the battery when sleeping, even a new one.

2021-12-05 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The ubuntu-release-upgrade tool upgrades you from one release (eg.
20.10) to the next release (ie. 21.04) and isn't involved with sleep
(and users are advised to not use battery but use power during the
process).

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

[Bug 1918253] Re: WWAN I XMM 7360 LTE-Advanced (Cat 9) doesn't work [8086:7360]

2021-12-05 Thread Rex Tsai
The modem based on Intel XMM7360 can support both PCI and USB mode, the
HP's UEFI does not support switching the model to USB mode.

The WWAN suspend D state is D2 instead of D3, under windows. The WWAN
under PCI will block suspend-to-idle on Linux.

[Bug 1945221] Re: CPU frequency stuck at minimum value..again Ubuntu 20.04.3

2021-12-05 Thread Doug Smythies
I would still likes to know what MSR 0x64F says, as per comment #20.

Yes, thermald should have been disabled for all of this stuff, and I
thought it was.

Recall one the askubuntu threads, where I suggested writing 0x4005C to
MSR 0x1FC. Do so at your own risk.

Your hardware seems to have issues, and assems to be asserting the
external PROCHOT bit.

If it were me, I would disable turbo boost in BIOS, and boot into
passive mode with the schedutil governor:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash intel_pstate=passive
cpufreq.default_governor=schedutil"

[Bug 1953286] [NEW] Add support for NVIDIA EC backlight

2021-12-05 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Some system equipped with NVIDIA GFX cannot change screen brightness.

[Fix]
Add new way to change brightness.

[Test]
After the fix is applied, there's a new backlight sysfs
"nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight" can change the screen brightness.

[Where problems could occur]
The driver relies on BIOS to behave correctly. If the BIOS lies or has a
bug, the new backlight interface will overtake other backlight
interfaces. It's rather unlikely though.

[Bug 1851250] Re: [snap] chromium-browser snap cannot upload files outside ~

2021-12-05 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Hi Olivier (or whoever knows about Chromium), I see that the upstream
support for the XDG file selector portal landed somewhere in July this
year (https://chromium-
review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/2992214/), but I cannot find
information on which Chromium version contains this change.

I'm using chromium from the "latest/stable" channel (96.0.4664.45), and
according to a quick test with d-feet, it appears that the FileChooser
method is working on my desktop -- but I still cannot upload files
stored in /tmp.

2021-12-05 Thread AceLan Kao
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  f71808e_wdt watchdog driver can't recognize F81966 chip.

  [Fix]
AAEON provides a patch to add the ID.

  [Test]
Testing was done on the Aaeon SSE-OPTI

  [Where problems could occur]
Simply adding one ID, should not introduce any regressions.

- since this patch comes from ODM, so mark this patch as UBUNTU: ODM: patch
+ This patch is for ODM project and need this to be included as soon as
possible, so we submit this patch as a sauce patch before upstream merges it.

[Bug 1942242] Re: keyboard repeat rate setting and mouse scroll setting missing in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

2021-12-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 124440 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/124440

Yes the key repeat settings exist, but in a poorly-designed location
where people might not find them:

Settings > Universal Access > Typing > Repeat Keys

And the mouse speed is:

Settings > Mouse & Touchpad > Mouse > Mouse Speed

So that only leaves the the scrolling speed unconfigurable.

** Summary changed:

- keyboard repeat rate setting and mouse scroll setting missing in Ubuntu 20.04
LTS
+ Mouse scroll setting missing in Ubuntu

** Description changed:

- Normally, system settings GUI should have a setting, which is not available
in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. These are:
- 1. The option to change the keyboard's repeat rate on key press.
- 2. The option to set the number of lines to scroll on using the mouse wheel
and to set the mouse pointer speed of movement.
- Please make these available via the GUI settings.

[Bug 1953259] Re: ubuntu 22.04:after inactivity cant turn on screen!urgent:will burn screen

2021-12-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1953259/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1942684] Re: Kernel 5.14.X / 5.13.14 fails to boot

2021-12-05 Thread DanglingPointer
Is it a new or old system?
What's the last working kernel version for you?

Have you considered going back to the official kernel version for your
Ubuntu (if it works?)?

Another option you may have would be to try disabling that
"...SANITZE_ALL" config and rebuild the kernel from kernel.org using the
updated ubuntu config. See if it works.

[Bug 1945221] Re: CPU frequency stuck at minimum value..again Ubuntu 20.04.3

2021-12-05 Thread Doug Smythies
Your processor is indicating this:

PROCHOT# or FORCEPR# Event (bit 2, RO) — Indicates whether PROCHOT# or FORCEPR#
is being
asserted by another agent on the platform.

The related sticky log bit is also set.

This is something I suspected a couple of months ago, on one of those
askubuntu threads. As to why the bit does not go back to 0, I do not
know, that would be your hardware.

Please also provide the contents of MSR 0x1B2.

Note that your processor is also indicating a past power limit, via the
log bit. However, many do as they come out of the BIOS to the O.S., so
it might be a red herring. One has to clear the log bit and then watch
for it becoming set again to know for certain.

This looks like a problem with squid itself, the packet does not have
duplicate security definition. In the code at http://www.squid-
cache.org/Doc/code/wccp2_8cc_source.html I miss some debug output in the
loop processing the packet /* Go through the data structure */ so would
need to rebuild the package or to involve debugger.

I was not able to find any documentation of squid listing
supported/tested wccp servers but at this point this looks like an issue
to be reported upstream. There is no reason to consider wccp packets
from IOS 15.8(3)M2 invalid.

[Bug 1953260] [NEW] simple-scan fails to connect to scanner while ippusbxd or ipp-usb are running

2021-12-05 Thread Thomas van der Berg
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded from 18.04, where this wasn't a problem. On 20.04,
whenever I try to scan a document with simple-scan while ippusbxd or
ipp-usb are running (I tried with both) it will fail to connect to the
printer and show the following message in a popup: "Failed to scan:
Unable to connect to scanner".

I'm not sure what causes this, but whenever I kill ippusbxd (sudo
killall -9 ippusbxd) scanning works again. That breaks printing for me
though, so now I have to do this awkward dance of killing and restarting
ippusbxd to scan or print. I've found quite a bit of people having
comparable problems with printers on Ubuntu 20.04 (see
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1233521/printer-problems-after-
installing-ubuntu-20-04 and
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1258462/ubuntu-20-04-simple-scan-does-
not-detect-scanner ) but this is the only workardoung for scanning that
worked for me.

Some people online recommended replacing ippusbxd with ipp-usb from
https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/pzz/xUbuntu_20.04/amd64/
but ipp-usb caused the same problem for me.

My printer is a HP DeskJet 2630

* add jammy to /etc/apt/source.list
* add apt pinning via new file /etc/apt/preferences.d/ubuntu_apt-pinning.pref
Content:
Package: *
Pin: release o=Ubuntu,n=jammy
Pin-Priority: -1
* update indices: apt-get update
* force install of jammy package of roundcube: apt-get -t jammy install

[Bug 1945221] Re: CPU frequency stuck at minimum value..again Ubuntu 20.04.3

2021-12-05 Thread Doug Smythies
Since the intel_pstate driver is asking for 3.4 GHz, but the processor
itself is only granting 0.8 GHz we now know that the throttling is
within the processor and not externally driven.

It might be related to what koba noted in comment #8, I don't know.

The processor has MSRs with bits to indicate the reasons it is
throttling, which is the next place to look. Myself, I am tried of
decoding the common MSR bits, so I wrote a decoder. It is at (coded so
as to avoid bots):

double u double u double u dot smythies dot com /~doug/temp_kernel/

Both the c code and compiled, msr-decoder.c

run as sudo: "sudo ./msr-decoder" and post the output here.

There is also a log bit reset program, that clears held bits for ongoing
work.

If you do not want to use my programs, then read MSR's 0x19c, 0x1aa,
0x1b1, 0x16f, 0x1fc and post the contents here.

As a side note: Your
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq:80 is not 50%
of maximum as dictated by
/sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/min_perf_pct:50. I had thought the
two getting out of sync had been fixed.

[Bug 1953249] Re: UVD firmware for AMD Southern Islands (GCN 1) GPUs is missing

2021-12-05 Thread Jean-Pierre van Riel
Per coincidence, I worked on this same bug today, as I'm hoping to try
make use of the amdpro legacy OpenCL drivers, which will need amdgpu as
a base.

The issue is Ubuntu is providing newer kernel HWE stacks with amdgpu
driver modules, but failing to keep related Linux firmware packages up
to date and in lockstep. E.g. 20.04.3 LTS is based on kernel 5.11 from
hirsute (21.04), but the linux-firmware collection is left outdated on
1.187.20 that came with kernel 5.4?

https://packages.ubuntu.com/hirsute-updates/linux-firmware shows v
1.197.3, so I'd expect a HWE stack with 20.04.3 to also provide the same
level of firmware updates for kernel 5.11.

> I use UEFI and the module wasn't signed

Perhaps installing the official deb/repo instead of upstream has a good
shot at the firmware that gets added into initramfs being signed
properly (one would hope!). I manged the following workaround, but my
case is still legacy BIOS.

curl -OL
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-firmware/linux-firmware_1.197.3_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i linux-firmware_1.197.3_all.deb

Extra hint: maybe download the deb from your closest mirror because this
package is almost 200MB large.

P.S. While most firmware is hopefully decoupled and backward compatible
to use with older kernel modules/drivers, one never knows if a bug might
show up by using very new firmware with much older modules, since you
stray into a untested path between the firmware and the kernel modules.
Hence I tried to match the Ubuntu release, kernel versions, and tested-
at-the-time firmware more closely than just jumping to latest upstream
firmware versions.

Its similar but a kinda upside version of the older proprietary graphics
driver blob hell that plagued Linux over the previous decade. Firmware
is the other way round where the in-tree admgpu driver needs the
firmware to provide a stable interface. Can't recall if Linux ever
solved the lack of a stable in-kernel/versioned ABI between drivers and
binary driver blobs. It's why AMD FGLRX proprietary drivers blobs were
always hell, and AMD failed to keep up with ABI changes on the kernel
and often didn't work with newer kernels, hence amdgpu became the new
middle layer/foundation to bridge this ABI gap and add create a
stable/presumably versioned ABI for AMD that the kernel developers never
bothered to provide. Now AMD-pro software and extended driver blobs can
rely on the opensource amdgpu parts to be less of a moving target as ABI
changes on the kernel core will need to update/include required changes
to amdgpu because amdgpu is now in-tree and should be tested in lockstep
with other kernel changes.

[Bug 1953252] [NEW] Since last three upgrades, by laptop drains the battery when sleeping, even a new one.

2021-12-05 Thread Gabriel
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Since the last 3 upgrades (20.10, 21.04, 21.10, was working fine with
20.04) when my laptop is in sleep mode the battery is drained very fast.
I originally thought that maybe my battery was getting old, so I
purchased a new one (over $150...) but the issue remained. I tried
upgrading to 21.04 but the issue remained, then I upgraded to 21.10 and
the issue remains. This makes the sleep move virtually useless, to give
you an idea, I left for a 3 day trip and the battery went flat, even
though it was fully charged before I left. Before it would last much
longer (I cannot say how much but at least a week or two).

What has changed that causes this drainage?

I have a Lenovo W530 laptop.

Thanks,
Gabriel
