[Bug 2063298] [NEW] deprecate ubuntu-fan in Noble
Public bug reported: [Impact] In order to provide ubuntu-fan we need to maintain additional kernel SAUCE patches that are currently conflicting with upstream code, potentially breaking networking eBPF APIs. To prevent such incompatibility the whole patch set requires a major redesign. However, after investigations and a detailed assessment we have not found any relevant real-world use-case that still requuires ubuntu-fan, as most of its features are now available in the upstream kernel and user-space tools, using alternative solutions. Moreover, maintaining ubuntu-fan is also slowing down / preventing the development of other packages (see for example LP: #2051672). Therefore, we are proposing to deprecate ubuntu-fan starting with noble. [Test case] We have ubuntu-fan test cases in our regression testing suite. Such tests are expected to fail with the noble kernel, so we can hint/disable them in Noble. [Fix] Drop (do not apply) the ubuntu-fan SAUCE patch set from the Ubuntu kernel. [Regression potential] There are still some existing tools/systems that may still rely on ubuntu-fan, so we may experience regressions when such systems are moving to noble. However, the potential of breaking eBPF networking has a much higher impact, so we can probably workaround any potential ubuntu-fan regression using alternative upstream solutions. ** Affects: iproute2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: iproute2 (Ubuntu Noble) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: iproute2 (Ubuntu Noble) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063298 Title: deprecate ubuntu-fan in Noble To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iproute2/+bug/2063298/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2063291] Re: [SRU] Correctly map boot entry to OEM setup
** Description changed: [ Impact ] Historically with Ubiquity-based live ISOs, a boot entry exists specific for OEM configuration. This has become an expectation from an end-user perspective, for installs dedicated to that purpose. OEM mode is a feature that is now only present in Calamares-based ISOs, with Ubuntu Desktop Installer-based ISOs having progress tracked in bug 2048473. Out of the three Calamares-based ISOs (Ubuntu Unity, Kubuntu, and Lubuntu), only two of those (Kubuntu and Lubuntu) have dedicated installer prompts to boot right into the installer, where Ubuntu Unity simply has a desktop icon on first boot, which is the same as Lubuntu's functionality from 18.10 to 23.10 in this respect. Kubuntu has an OEM boot entry enabled, but the installer prompt does nothing with the additional kernel parameter provided (oem- config/enable=true). Lubuntu does not have an OEM boot entry enabled (which will require a debian-cd merge proposal), and also does not have this logic in the installer prompt. Both installer prompts need simple support. [ Test Plan ] 1. Boot a Noble daily ISO or 24.04.1, if already released, for Lubuntu and Kubuntu. 2. Select the following boot entry: "OEM install (for manufacturers)" 3. After system boot, Calamares in OEM mode is shown. [ Where problems could occur ] When updating Calamares itself in a future update, care must be taken to ensure OEM mode continues to work as designed. An underlying regression in Calamares has the potential to break the functionality of this update. Additionally, if debian-cd changes in a non-backwards-compatible way for - Noble, this could also break changes. + Noble, this could also break the functionality of this update. [Bug 2061940] Re: Some DUTs can't boot up after installing the proposed kernel on Mantic
bisect kernel result, the patch 2c7b4bfadef08cc0995c24a7b9eb120fe897165f causes this regression thermal: core: Store trip pointer in struct thermal_instance Replace the integer trip number stored in struct thermal_instance with a pointer to the relevant trip and adjust the code using the structure in question accordingly. The main reason for making this change is to allow the trip point to cooling device binding code more straightforward, as illustrated by subsequent modifications of the ACPI thermal driver, but it also helps to clarify the overall design and allows the governor code overhead to be reduced (through subsequent modifications). The only case in which it adds complexity is trip_point_show() that needs to walk the trips[] table to find the index of the given trip point, but this is not a critical path and the interface that trip_point_show() belongs to is problematic anyway (for instance, it doesn't cover the case when the same cooling devices is associated with multiple trip points). This is a preliminary change and the affected code will be refined by a series of subsequent modifications of thermal governors, the core and the ACPI thermal driver. The general functionality is not expected to be affected by this change. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. [Bug 2063099] Re: Stopping container signal blocked by AppArmor on Ubuntu
AppArmor's signal handling is a bit more involved than eg capabilities or file accesses: both the sender profile and receiver profile need to have signal rules to allow sending the signal or receiving the signal, as appropriate. 23.10 and 24.04 LTS have introduced restrictions on unprivileged namespaces to try to mitigate against kernel exploits. The details have changed between 23.10 and 24.04 LTS, so it's possible that upgrading to 24.04 LTS will be sufficient to fix this -- especially if the AppArmor profiles have been updated during the development cycle. I'm not sure what exactly to suggest as I don't know the various kinds of Docker available, where the profiles live, etc. But hopefully these hints will help you get to a fix. [Bug 2039294] Re: apparmor docker
As a temporary workaround, put the file I have attached to /etc/apparmor.d/docker-default and load it with "apparmor_parser -Kr /etc/apparmor.d/docker-default". This will make dockerd skip loading its builtin profile and use this one instead. The only difference between the builtin one and this one is the following rule: # runc may send signals to container processes signal (receive) peer=runc, I've opened PRs upstream: - https://github.com/containerd/containerd/pull/10123 - https://github.com/moby/moby/pull/47749 I think I'll need to work a little bit more on them to add rules only for profiles that exist. (It works even if they don't exist though.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2039294 Title: apparmor docker To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/docker/+bug/2039294/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2063260] [NEW] ovn-ic: systemd service does not use ovn_ctl_opts

[Bug 2063259] [NEW] sudden issues with monitors and sleep mode with 6.5.0-28-generic kernel
Public bug reported: I have Kubuntu 22.04 and KDE 5.24.7 on my desktop. On 4/19/24 it downloaded and installed kernel 6.5.0-28-generic. After restarting, I suddenly had 2 issues: 1. I have 2 monitors. One of the monitors would not turn on while in the KDE desktop. However, while booting and also after getting into KDE and pressing CTRL-ALT-F2 to switch to the terminal the monitor worked, so I knew there wasn't a hardware problem with the monitor. 2. I could no longer put the computer into sleep mode. When I clicked on "sleep", it appeared to go into sleep mode (the working monitor would turn off), but the CPU fan never turned off and it was still "awake". I was able to revert back to 6.5.0-27-generic from the grub menu and the above issues went away, but they are concerning and I can't use 6.5.0-28-generic. [Bug 2063257] [NEW] Noble: default pam config for login tries do load non-existent pam_lastlog.so
Public bug reported: pam_lastlog.so was dropped by upstream in 1.5.3[1][4]. It's still there in the code, but not built by default. And indeed, in noble (1.5.3) we don't have it, while mantic (1.5.2) does. [Bug 2051996] Re: apt-mirror not syncing correctly
Hello! I believe this issue can not be easily fixed in the apt-mirror because it currently doesn't enforce mirror data integrity. [Bug 2063256] [NEW] lvm and encryption option not available
Public bug reported: Description: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Release: 24.04 There is no "entire disk with lvm and encryption" option available. When the "Erase disk" option is selected the entire disk is selected for installation and the user is given the option to "Encrypt system" but there is no mention of LVM. A 4GiB boot partition is created as ext4 and the rest is partitioned as luks2. After reboot the system looks like a standard non-lvm layout. ** Affects: ubuntu-desktop-provision Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: noble -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063256 Title: lvm and encryption option not available To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-desktop-provision/+bug/2063256/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2038340] Re: clang packages in 22.04 have the wrong libstdc++-*-dev dependency
Also happens here, but not on all systems. One difference between these systems is that gcc-12 is installed on those that fail, but not on that that work.
