[Bug 2066103] [NEW] synaptic won't upgrade video drivers because synaptic is running

2024-05-18 Thread Chelmite
Public bug reported:

When I run synaptic, select Settings/Repositories, then select the
Additional Drivers tab, I see X.Org X server (Nouveau) is selected. If I
select one of the NVIDIA drivers, and click Apply Changes, I get an
error popup: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend. It is held
by process 18471 (synaptic).

I have only one instance of synaptic. If I run “ps guax | grep 18471”,
it lists the one synaptic process. If I exit synaptic, then that process
disappears.

So, it seems that synaptic won’t allow me to change the video driver
because synaptic is running!

If I run sudo lsof /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend, I get:

lsof: WARNING: can't stat() fuse.portal file system /run/user/1010/doc

  Output information may be incomplete.

lsof: WARNING: can't stat() fuse.gvfsd-fuse file system
/run/user/1010/gvfs

  Output information may be incomplete.

COMMANDPID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME

synaptic 18471 root 12uW REG 259,50 112591441
/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend

So, nothing else appears to be using lock-frontend.

[Bug 2055114] Re: fail2ban is broken in 24.04 Noble

2024-05-18 Thread Chris Cowley
Fortunately for me, I only have to manage a single server and I patched
this problem on that server myself (the comments from Aka Sikrom here
provide some very useful pointers in this regard) so this no longer
matters to me personally. But it's getting embarrassing how long this
simple fix is taking to get to Noble.

There is clearly something very wrong with the process; I am reminded of
Douglas Adams' quote about trying to grill a steak by having a
succession of people coming into the room and breathing on it.

[Bug 1906617] Re: Anacron prevents shutdown while a job is running. Some packages install long-running jobs.

2024-05-18 Thread Ohad Lutzky
Some more research shows that the reason 90 seconds is no longer enough
is
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/anacron/-/commit/e83000966d446830ad93eef7af2c5ea62efe01db,
which has set TimeoutStopSec=infinity for anacron. This decision was
made in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=915379, and
they seem to find it appropriate for desktops... I tend to disagree, for
the ssame reasons as the original bug reporter.

Now with Kernel 6.9.0 the issue should be fixed for devices with Cirrus.

Unfortunately for me on TI TAS2781 kernel 6.9.0 and 6.9.1 still have the
same behavior as all kernels after 6.7.9. (Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8
2023)

The `./tas2781-2dev-on.sh 2` has been my workaround, having to run it
usually every time media stops outputting to the audio out.

[Bug 2051999] Re: Grub2 2.06 has upstream bug that results in Non-booting with ZFS after snapshot of bpool.

2024-05-18 Thread Mate Kukri
Hi Mike,

Backporting and SRU-ing GRUB 2.12 to Jammy is part of the roadmap for
the Ubuntu 24.10 cycle. I would like to not make a more specific public
commitment right now, but it's inside the realm of possibility that it
will happen a lot sooner than October 2024.

[Bug 2051999] Re: Grub2 2.06 has upstream bug that results in Non-booting with ZFS after snapshot of bpool.

2024-05-18 Thread Mike Ferreira
@mate ---

I checked the changelogs of the current Grub2 packages for Jammy.

I don't see patches for this issue yet. The last updates for Grub2
packages for Jammy were in April, and were for ARM, and a CVE security
update by you. Because that was "Security", I understand that those took
precedence.

But is now 2 months since then, with no updates/patches.

You said 2.12 was patched, but current Grub2 in Jammy is still
2.06-2ubuntu7.2 amd64...

Any expected timeline for Jammy?

2024-05-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

It displays crashed desktop and then goes all black and displays a
blinking underscore. If i wait enough, this starts printing the
messages like failet to rotate and failed to write entry.. The
only way to make it normal is by restarting forcefully by long
  pressing the power button.

even if that was to a flash-drive... Destroying the original bpool,
recreate the new bpool, then Receive, the snapshot back to restore it,
does fix that with less than 2GB of storage.

That is just one work-around. I've started (manually) making bpool's 3GB
on ZFS-On-Root installs, to allow more room for my snapshots...

Upgrading Grub2 to 2.12, from 2.12rc and previous, fixes the problem
also. There is 3-4 work-around listed in this report that works.

2024-05-18 Thread Paul White
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. We are sorry that we do not
always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely
manner.

Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end-of-standard-support on April 29, 2021.

It seems you're using a KDE application in a GNOME/Unity environment.

I'm not seeing an issue using dolphin in Kubuntu 24.04 so I'll close
this with a status of 'Invalid' as either the issue has been fixed in
the almost seven years since your bug report was raised or there was
some incompatibility in the way KDE and GNOME sorted their directories
and display their 'arrow' icon.

If you still see an issue in a currently supported release of Ubuntu the
please tell us which one and change the status back to 'New'.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:

Return 1.0 as the value in line 212.

If the user hasn't specified a track for the checkpoint, then the
logical behavior is that any track will satisfy the constraint. So the
APG solver will work better if the constraint always reports that it's
100% satisfied when the track is unspecified.

[Bug 2065152] Re: [SRU] libreoffice 7.6.7 for mantic

2024-05-18 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.6.7 is in its seventh and last bugfix release of the 7.6
line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.6#7.6.7_release

   * Version 7.6.6 is currently released in mantic. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.6.6 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.6.7
(that's a total of 44 bugs):
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.6.7/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.6.7/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

7.6.7 RC2 is identical to the 7.6.7 release

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_76/1898/

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

   * Packaging changes are staged at

https://git.launchpad.net/~libreoffice/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/log/?h=wip/mantic-7.6

  [Regression Potential]

   * A minor release with a total of 44 bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described
above should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked
  in.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all

Using Kubuntu 24.04 I created a .rar file with RAR and successfully
listed its contents with krusader 2.8.1. I was also able to view text
files within that archive.

I'm closing this as 'Fix Released' although I appreciate maybe not fixed
in the xenial release as you reported but some time later.

[Bug 2064680] Re: Please merge needrestart 3.6-8 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-05-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package needrestart - 3.6-8ubuntu1

---
needrestart (3.6-8ubuntu1) oracular; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian unstable (LP: #2064680). Remaining changes:
   - debian/patches:
+ ubuntu-avoid-restart-cloud-final.patch: avoid automatic restart of
cloud-init systemd oneshot services when cloud-init invokes apt-get
   dist-upgrade due to user-data (LP: 2059337)
+ ubuntu-mode.patch: introduce a specific mode when running as APT hook.
By default we want needrestart to be quieter, restart services that need
it, and use the standard protocol to notify that a reboot is required.
   (LP: 1987449, LP: 2004203, LP: 2055433, LP: 2055437)
   - debian/tests:
+ control: add missing libc6-dev dependency.
We're building a small C helper to mock out uname(), and of course it
   needs the glibc headers available.
+ prompt-reboot: mark the tests as needing a VM since needrestart doesn't
do kernel detection when within a container
+ Modify existing tests using Test-Command to use Tests
+ *.py: migrate off some deprecated libtmux APIs
+ *.py: make tests less sensible to performance issues on the runners
+ explicitly set the debconf frontend.
autopkgtests set the frontend to noninteractive, but we actually want to
test what happens with the default frontend to check that the flow
   doesn't get interrupted.

needrestart (3.6-8) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Merge 3.6-4+deb12u1 changelog.
  * Add patch 08-uninitialized-vars-arm from George Robbert to fix warnings on
arm and some amd64 systems.
Closes: #1063719
  * Add patch 09-recognize-versioned-ruby-interpreter from Helmut Grohne to
detect also versioned ruby interpreters.
Closes: #1063155
  * Add patch 10-notify-send-timeout from Michał Mirosław to fix a timeout in

[Bug 1965668] Re: app not opening

2024-05-18 Thread Paul White
We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago
and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Ubuntu 21.10 (impish) reached end-of-life on July 14, 2022.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported when
using a currently supported release of Ubuntu? Please let us know if you
do otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days
time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 2062951] Re: Random flickering with i915 on Linux 6.8

2024-05-18 Thread Leon Williams
@Davron - downgrading the kernel to 6.7 should work for now, but I just
went back to 22.04 as I also had issues with laptop shutdown state etc

Also worth clicking the "this bug affects me" thing at the top as I
don't think devs will bother unless the issue gets some visibility.

Seen quite a few others on Reddit with same or similar issues so it
definitely affects more than is showing here.

[Bug 1875574] Re: Missing initrd in lowlatency

2024-05-18 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
review all reported bugs in a timely manner.

I'm setting the status of this bug to 'Incomplete' as it's not seen any
activity for some time. If this is still an issue when using a currently
maintained release of Ubuntu then please let us know which one(s)
otherwise this bug report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days
time.

By the way, there are many packages with 'low-latency' in their name.
Sometimes reporting a bug against a package which 'might' be correct
will mean it reaches the right team within Ubuntu. It can always be
moved on to the correct package if necessary.

[Bug 1876842] Re: 'Blank Screen Delay' under 'Screen lock' is not working. I tried with the 'NEVER' option too.

2024-05-18 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

In this case I suspect a Support site would have been more appropriate,
eg. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu, https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org.

Please note that you gave us no indication as to which release or
flavour of Ubuntu you were using and with no response to comment #1 I
doubt that anyone who could have fixed your issue saw this bug report. A
support site could have helped you identify the package and complete the
bug report with the required information.

As almost four years have passed I'll close this as 'Invalid'.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

I'm moving this to the 'gnome-shell' package so that it is brought to
the attention of Ubuntu's Desktop Team.

If this is still an issue then please execute the following command only
once, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a
