These errors usually indicate a permissions problem.

Run hp-check -t and post the output.

[Bug 335662] Re: [jaunty] hplip status service cannot find system tray

2009-11-02 Thread Aaron Albright
I have seen this intermittently with Ubuntu 9.10 and HPLIP 3.9.8. It
seems to be about 50% of the time I boot that I also get the error.

[Bug 461518] Re: hplip does not recognize printers changed from hp:// to usb:// in jaunty->karmic RC upgrade

2009-10-27 Thread Aaron Albright
If reinstalling HPLIP works then it's not an issue with HPLIP but could
be an issue with the upgrade path. Till--any comments?

This wouldn't be an issue with HPLIP, per se, but with how Ubuntu does
the upgrade. Someone from Ubuntu may have some other comments, but as
of right now I wouldn't consider this an issue with HPLIP.

Thanks for your support and feedback--we greatly appreciate it.

2009-10-26 Thread Aaron Albright
If you installed HPLIP manually before upgrading and then did the
upgrade, you will more than likely need to reinstall HPLIP for it to
work correctly again.

[Bug 363750] Re: Installer removes many unrelated packages!

2009-04-20 Thread Aaron Albright
The aptitude is wanting to remove a lot of other packages that apt-get
doesn't seem to care about.

Can you run:

apt-get -s remove hplip hpijs

and

aptitude -s remove hplip hpijs

and post the output from both? Maybe someone on the aptitude team can
help.

Thanks.

[Bug 235399] Re: "Print black" does not use black ink cartridge

2008-12-04 Thread Aaron Albright
If you want the printer to print in true black you can select
(300/600/1200dpi) Grayscale, Black cartridge.

The easiest way to do this is to to run hp-toolbox, click the printer,
then click print settings, under "Quality' select the setting you'd
like.

To run hp-toolbox in ubuntu you may need to run:

sudo apt-get install hplip-gui

then run

hp-toolbox

I've looked in the Photosmart 8000 series ppd and it does have these
options so you should have them as well.

Also another way to do this is to run hp-setup to configure another
printer queue, then configure that queue with the settings you prefer.
Then when you want to print true black you print to the other print
queue, and then you want to print color you print to the color printer
queue.

Hope this helps.

Set cups to debug:

edit the file /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

change the loglevel to debug, save, exit, then view the log

sudo tail -f /var/log/cups/error_log

then try and print from openoffice, and post the log. Posting to
http://pastebin.com/ and post the link is suggested because the output
will be rather long.

[Bug 246475] Re: HP LaserJet P1006 Printer Unable to Print

2008-11-21 Thread Aaron Albright
The HP LaserJet P1006 is supported by HPLIP 2.8.2+, Ubuntu 8.10 comes
with HPLIP 2.8.7 therefore it is supported.

The printer needs to be configured using hp-setup to function correctly.
The HAL printer detection and configuration does not install the plugin
that is required for this printer to work.

Simply running:

sudo hp-setup

Should resolve this problem.

[Bug 272136] Re: Can't cancel print when printer out of paper

2008-11-18 Thread Aaron Albright
Once the job data has been sent to the printer it's outside the cups
control and the job can't be canceled from cups, but it can be canceled
from the printer.

There isn't anyway to recall the data already processed by the printer.

If I am understanding your request correctly.

Thanks for your report and support of HPLIP.

2008-10-08 Thread Aaron Albright
You don't need to run install.py after HPLIP is installed. The 2.8.7
version of HPLIP is the Ubuntu pre-installed version of HPLIP.

Till-is there some reason install.py is being installed with HPLIP? It
can probably be removed. HPLIP does not install the install.py during
the install process.

python-qt3 is not preinstalled with Ubuntu this is a known Ubuntu
errata.

[Bug 192176] Re: Scanner output always JPEG compressed

2008-06-02 Thread Aaron Albright
Hey Andrey,

I spoke with the dev team and our thinking is this isn't a defect
because it can be changed in the xsane settings and once changed it will
stay with the new setting. The default is set because in a majority of
cases default works good for most users.

As for system wide we primarily only support scanning with xsane and
each user would need to change the setting.

Maybe we're not clear on the use case you are wanting to improve?

Thanks!

[Bug 229663] Re: Hardy: HP Officejet 5600 not available in device list

2008-05-12 Thread Aaron Albright
Sorry HPLIP only supports usb, parallel, and jetdirect network devices.
Although your router may have the ability to share a usb network printer
unless it's a jetdirect device or jetdirect enabled device HPLIP will
not work correctly with it, is unsupported, and we don't test these
devices.

You could look over this page:
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/troubleshooting/network.html

and be sure the correct ports are open. Although more than likely this
wont help..

Sorry!
