[Bug 2069163] Re: Black screen flickering on resume [22.04] [i915]

2024-06-17 Thread AB
** Description changed:

When waking the system from suspension, the screen turns black and
flickers repeatedly for a minute, until it gets back to normal.

This issue is closely related to this other bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1958191

Indeed, the black-screen flickering affected also booting, but adding
the kernel parameters suggested in the link (`i915.enable_dc=0
intel_idle.max_cstate=2`) solved that at least for boot.

- I'm on Linux Mint 21.3 (i.e. Ubuntu 22.04) with 6.5 kernel. I tried
- other kernels (5.4, 5.15) and drivers (545, 470, 390, Nouveau), but
- nothing changed. This issue didn't happen on Focal 20.04.
-
- Running `ubuntu-bug linux` gives me a PermissionError(13, 'Permission
- denied').

[Bug 2046047] Re: No aptX support

2024-05-13 Thread ab
Hi, thanks for the reply. I now understand the licensing constraints.
Still, you should be aware that passing --enable-libopenaptx alone
appears to have no effect -- the configure logic that checks it is all
gated behind other flags.

The good news is that since I opened this bug, bluez-alsa added support in
v4.2.0 for libfreeaptx:
https://github.com/arkq/bluez-alsa/pull/679
https://github.com/iamthehorker/libfreeaptx
... perhaps this avoids the licensing issues?

[Bug 1861712] Re: nodejs-dev package pinned to libssl 1.0.*

2021-09-25 Thread Minx Ab
@cgseller

> What I do not fully grok is why so few people have run across this
situation?

Not few, but believe most install libssl1.0-dev or give up. If one look
at stack-exchange and similar networks the issue (and it's family tree)
has tens of thousands of views and there is a huge list of issues on
sites like github for various projects. In addition a long range of blog
posts and other writings on the issue.

Also see: https://github.com/nodejs/TSC/blob/main/OpenSSL-Strategy.md

The *launchpad* system for *affecting-me* requires login and guess not
that many have an account or never end up here. A *views* counter would
likely give more of a hint to the volume. Also notice again and again
that answers, blogs etc including sites like SE almost (never) say
"Please go here and say it affects you" linking to bugs.

[Bug 1918017] Re: ksh93 problems

2021-05-28 Thread Minx Ab
Highly recommend that the action proposed in #2 is taken. (If I
understand it correctly).

In my opinion: The 2020 version has nothing to do as main package for
ksh, and absolutely not in an LTS release.

As for the bug experienced by OP it is ugly. The history loading is
botched and have several bugs. When history reaches a limit of N bytes
it does no longer write to history file. It then opens a new file
descriptor to the history file for each command. On for example Linux
this can give something like:

$ find /proc/PID-of-ksh/fd -lname '*/.sh_history' | wc -l
746

(Opinion on the 2020 project) Sure there was honest intentions to make
it better, but from the looks of things there was very little
understanding and respect in the mix. It seemed more important to paint
Korn as a crazy spaghetti coder who obfuscate with intent – then
understanding the code. Think that is sad.

** Summary changed:

[Bug 1573345] Re: Dual monitor loses settings after screen sleep

2018-03-15 Thread AB
This is totally happening for me since a long while now. It was there in 17.x ,
it is there in 18.04 beta.
No matter if we use KDE or Cinnamon.
No matter if we use noveau or NVIDIA drivers.

I have 2 monitors for my desktop, a big one in front and a smaller one
on the left. The big one is supposed to be the main desktop screen.

Once the screen saver timer kicks in to turn off the monitors, the big
one never comes back to life after entering the password (can only enter
it on the secondary-left side monitor). The big one stays without any
image, it even says there is no signal when turned on/off.

Have to reboot to fix it.

[Bug 1706939] Re: A live session can't be shut down due to "[ *** ] (2 of 2) A start job is running for ... (21s / no limit)"

2017-11-01 Thread AB
this is an annoying issue, i had the same on a fresh installation of
arfull on my dell inspiron 5570.

i think we have two separate issues:

A) [ *** ] (2 of 2) A start job is running for Wait for Network to be
Configured (21s / no limit)

systemd-networkd-wait-online.service fails to start and it adds +2min
delay at startup when your wired Ethernet is not connected.

looking at that https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/2154

I start the service by adding --ignore=enp2s0 in /lib/systemd/system
/systemd-networkd-wait-online.service

[Service]
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/lib/systemd/systemd-networkd-wait-online --ignore=enp2s0
RemainAfterExit=yes

Now i have:

time sudo /lib/systemd/systemd-networkd-wait-online --ignore=enp2s0
ignoring: enp2s0
ignoring: lo

real0m0.023s
user0m0.006s
sys 0m0.013s

B) a stop job ... or kworker blocked... msg at Shutdown, reboot ..
looking at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1724317

I've fixed upgrading the kernel to 4.13.10.

[Bug 1440294] Re: syncevolution - no export of tasks / memos Aquaris E4.5

2017-01-06 Thread Ab
This also affects contacts on Ubuntu Phone using baikal. Synchronization
works fine with Thunderbird an SoGO. But changes do not appear on the
Phone. Also changes are made on the phone won't be visible on baikal or
Thunderbird. Even if database of Ubuntu Phone is empty and doing a first
complete synchronization not all contacts will appear on the handset.
But deleting an item on Thunderbird and doing a synchonization with the
handset will bring the item back to thunderbird. After synchronizing
forward and backward (syncevolution displays changes that has been done)
no changes will be visible on the handset. Even deleting all the
contacts on the phone and doing a fresh synchronization will not bring
the entire data to the screen of the handset.

[Bug 1631364] Re: gnome-screensaver crashes on remote login

Scratch that. Happens every login.

The problem seems to be in gs_fade_finalize(). It calls
fade->priv->screen_priv[i].fade_finish() even though that function may
be NULL (which it will be if the display does not support any gamma
adjustment).

[Bug 1631337] [NEW] spurious polkit authentication request from update-manager

2016-10-07 Thread Pierre Ossman (Cendio AB)
Public bug reported:

Logging in remotely bugs users with a polkit dialog asking them to
authenticate. This is because a remote session does not have access to
org.debian.apt.update-cache.

Such dialogs should only pop up on direct user action, so either this
background process needs to be removed, or it needs to fail silently
when it isn't authorized.

Also have this problem.

I tried sudo ifconfig eth0
And then sudo dhclinet.

Bit the second command does not terminate.
And I still don't have internet.

Then re-install the package."

autoremove pkgs l-headers-3.13.0-45-generic, libjpeg-progs, turbo, etc, repeat

rebooting seems to have resolved it, no error msg,
so this seems to have worked,

[Bug 1361951] Re: Utopic installation freezes during partition creation

2014-10-09 Thread Dafydd ab Iago
Hi, have had this same issue with the install procedure for 14.10 64-bit
desktop (daily build 9 Oct 2014) freezing while reformating.

Followed the work around above (ie. reformating via gparted) and the
install procedure has continued.

[Bug 1043011] Re: Purchasing a game in software center results in a SSL handshake error

2012-09-06 Thread ab
I have the same issue when attempting to pay with my card. The URL I see
is not for Chase, it's different:

"Unable to load page"
"Problem occurred while loading the URL
https://www.securesuite.net/elan/tdsecure/pa.jsp?partner=724260&VAA=B";
"SSL handshake failed"

Might this be related to 3rd party bank verification processes? Such as
when an online purchase is made, should the Ubuntu Software Center be
displaying a page to us that lets us confirm the charge is valid?

Additionally, when I select the PayPal option, the lower card entry
field collapses to just the PayPal header without any login screen. If I
press Review Order at this point, I get a greyed screen. It looks as if
a dialogue box should appear, but nothing happens even after waiting
more than a minute. The loading icon stops right after displaying the
grey screen.

Running Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, with no proxies set (and set to systemwide,
as advised in other threads).

I've also tried the nightly build to see if it makes a difference. Same
result.

[Bug 875297] Re: Ubuntu installer hangs on "Choose a picture" screen. Never recovers. Installation not bootable.

2012-09-04 Thread Dafydd ab Iago
Just reinstalled (in order to encrypt the root partition where there did
not seem to be an option if you want a customised partition).

The install process went smoothly with no hanging at the "choose
picture" stage (I chose one of the existing pictures/avatars).

[Bug 875297] Re: Ubuntu installer hangs on "Choose a picture" screen. Never recovers. Installation not bootable.

2012-09-04 Thread Dafydd ab Iago
The Ubuntu daily image from 3 September 2012 (amd64 standard desktop)
installer hangs on the "Choose a picture" screen.

I can take a photo with the webcam and it allows me to choose that photo
alongside other avatars/images. However, whatever image chosen I cannot
get the install process to move forward (ie. the CONTINUE button is
greyed out or does not allow me to press it.

WORK AROUND

However, I press back and the install process went back to the choose
password and user name stage. Then I pressed continue and at the choose
picture stage I could go on.

[Bug 730554] [NEW] nm-applet conumes too much memory

2011-03-07 Thread AB
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

nm-applet if let a long time on, consumes too much memory, from my point of
view.
I'm using Maverick completely updated to 6 march 2011.

Also, sometimes happens that nm-applet shows a wifi network and doesn't
connect to it after clicking on network name. I think both problems are
correlated. The cause can be non proper management of weak signal wifi
networks.

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10
Package: software-center 3.0.7

[Bug 561210] Re: Writing big files to NFS target causes system lock up

2010-10-23 Thread ab
The large size file transfer mentioned in the original posting sounds
like the problem I'm having, too, but I'm not using NFS, I'm using an
mdadm RAID1 setup. When a large file is copied, only the
dpkg/apt/synaptic packages run slowly. The rest of the system seems to
function well, including text terminals, gdm, and file transfers within
and between non-RAID drives.

I do not remember having this problem with any other Ubuntu flavors and
versions. It started when I setup RAID. If I remove the RAID, or do not
transfer large files when running the package programs, it does not seem
to cause problems.

My machine:
- OS: Ubuntu Linux 10.10
- CPU: Intel Q8200 Core 2 Quad

[Bug 643613] [NEW] ia32 packages missing on amd64

2010-09-20 Thread Pierre Ossman (Cendio AB)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lsb

In a nutshell, this doesn't work on a 64-bit system:

# apt-get install lsb-graphics-ia32
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package lsb-graphics-ia32

ia32-libs satisfies most (all?) dependencies, so that's a workaround.
Proper LSB packages are still desirable though as that means that you
can give the same instructions to users regardless of their system's
arch, and lsb_release will be able to properly report support for
graphics-ia32 even on 64-bit systems.

I tested this on Ubunut 10.04, but from what I can tell this has been
the same for all releases.

** Affects: lsb (Ubuntu)

[Bug 181900] Re: Evolution-Exchange does not really sync with exchange server

2010-02-23 Thread Miguel ab
Hi again, I've read an old entry that indicated:

" The solve for me:

delete the cache folder...
set in folder properties:
- local sync NO
- apply filters NO "

Well, I've done these steps and now I can see all my sent items in my
evolution. Before of doing these steps I closed evolution with next sentence:
"evolution --force-shutdown"

When I activated the apply filters I noticed that they didn't work
properly but I just ignored it and I forgot to delete them.

Regards

Miguel

[Bug 498797] [NEW] shelved windows strange behaviour when using hide all windows

2009-12-20 Thread Alex Ab.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Release:Ubuntu 9.10
Compiz version: 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu2
Compiz plugin - Shelf

When using "hide all windows" (applet or hotkey) shelved windows don't hide.
Instead they drop random broken shadows,
become invisible, but sill clicable.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Make windows shelved.
2) Use hide all windows. (broken shadow appears)
3) Click right mouse button on area that has been occupied by the window.
(shelved window restores)

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. This site requires a flash

[Bug 346801] [NEW] firefox consumes cpu

2009-03-22 Thread AB
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I'm on an wikipedia article, with no flash or special content running
on. I'm not doing anything else, just reading. Firefox is consuming 25%
of cpu. I restarted firefox but the problem persist.

I'm using Firefox 3.0.7 on Ubuntu 8.10.
Addons I have:
Adblock Plus
Novell Moonlight
We Developer
Google Gears
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications

I expect firefox not to use such amount of cpu cycles if I'm in a so
simple website.
