[Bug 1831453] [NEW] [Hyper-V] Install issue for Ubuntu 19.04 in Hyper-V

2019-06-03 Thread Adrian Suhov
Public bug reported:

Hi,

While trying to install Ubuntu 19.04 on Hyper-V (using this image
http://releases.ubuntu.com/19.04/ubuntu-19.04-live-server-amd64.iso), I
found out that the installation hanged and went to terminal. No data was
written to the VHDx file.

Tried multiple variations:
- Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2016
- Gen 1 and Gen 2 VM
- 1/2/4 vCPUS
- Static Memory/Dynamic Memory
- w/o NIC attached
- Live boot / install

Kernel version is 5.0.0-13-generic. I'm attaching dmesg output.

[Bug 1828248] [NEW] [linux-azure] Storage performance drop on RAID

2019-05-08 Thread Adrian Suhov
Public bug reported:

In Azure, FIO 4k tests are showing performance drops on latest proposed 4.15.0
linux-azure kernels - from 52K IOPS to ~38K IOPS (max value reached on both
sequential and random read tests).
The setup used is 12 disks in RAID0.
The affected kernels are:
Ubuntu 14.04 + 4.15.0-1043
Ubuntu 16.04 + 4.15.0-1044

Previous kernel versions had reached max IOPS, ~52K IOPS on both read
tests (e.g. 16.04 + 4.15.0-1043 kernel). Right now, it seems like the
issue is in the diff from 1043 kernel on trusty vs 1044 kernel on
xenial.

The 52K IOPS is expected at qdepth=256. The repro cmd (as ran by the
automation) is this:
fio --size=1023G --direct=1 --ioengine=libaio --filename=/dev/md0 --overwrite=1
--readwrite=randread --bs=4K --runtime=300 --iodepth=32 --numjob=8
--output-format=json
--output=/root/FIOLog/jsonLog/fio-result-randread-4K-256td.json --name='repro'

[Bug 1722806] [NEW] [Hyper-V] kdump-tools service does not start at boot on Ubuntu 17.10

2017-10-11 Thread Adrian Suhov
Public bug reported:

[Summary]
kdump-tools service does not start automatically at boot on Ubuntu 17.10
(4.13.0-12-generic x86_64 kernel). Because of this, the kernel crash dump is
not working.

[Steps]
- Tried enabling it using systemctl. No errors were shown after enabling it,
but after reboot the service is still not running.
- "kdump-config show" is reporting "current state:Not ready to kdump"
- "kdump-config load" command worked and the state changed to "ready to kdump".
kdump-tools service is still stopped but VM reboots (and a dump is generated)
if a crash is triggered.
- Starting the kdump-tools service is also ok. After it is started, a crash
dump is generated in case of system crash.

[Bug 1400319] Re: [Hyper-V] Kernel panic not functional on 32bit Ubuntu 14.10 and 15.04

2015-10-22 Thread Adrian Suhov
I tested the kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1400319/ on
Ubuntu 15.04 32bit and the problem still exists.
After installing the test kernel, kdump is running but doesn't update kexec:

root@ubuntu:~# /etc/init.d/kdump-tools status

root@ubuntu:~# cat /sys/kernel/kexec_crash_loaded
0

As suggested in comment #20, I installed kexec-tools from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/kexec-tools_2.0.6-0ubuntu2.1_amd64.deb
 and kexec was updated.

root@ubuntu:~# /etc/init.d/kdump-tools status
● kdump-tools.service - Kernel crash dump capture service
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/kdump-tools.service; enabled; vendor
preset: enabled)
Active: active (exited) since Thu 2015-10-22 18:24:47 EEST; 29s ago
  Process: 678 ExecStart=/etc/init.d/kdump-tools start (code=exited,
status=0/SUCCESS)
 Main PID: 678 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
   CGroup: /system.slice/kdump-tools.service

Oct 22 18:24:46 ubuntu systemd[1]: Starting Kernel crash dump capture service...
Oct 22 18:24:47 ubuntu kdump-tools[678]: Starting kdump-tools: * loaded kdump
kernel
Oct 22 18:24:47 ubuntu systemd[1]: Started Kernel crash dump capture service.

root@ubuntu:~# cat /sys/kernel/kexec_crash_loaded
1

After that, I triggered a kernel panic (log attached) but kdump didn't
work, so it seems to me a kdump-tools problem.

[Bug 1445195] Re: [Hyper-V] Kernel patches for storvsc

2015-10-01 Thread Adrian Suhov
I installed the kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1445195/precise/ , on a Ubuntu
12.04 x64 vm on Hyper-V. After installing, the vm won't boot ( NULL
pointer dereference ).

I attached the boot log.

[Bug 1490545] [NEW] [Hyper-V] lis daemons not active after install on Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf

2015-08-31 Thread Adrian Suhov
Public bug reported:

While testing Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf (development branch) 64bit we
found that kvp, vss and fcopy daemons aren't active after install.

Repro rate: 100%
Repro details:
Hyper-V: Server 2012 R2
Daily build version: 2015.08.31

What we did:
root@ubuntu:~# apt-get install linux-tools-`uname -r`
root@ubuntu:~# apt-get install linux-cloud-tools-`uname -r`

In the install logs I found the following lines:

hv-fcopy-daemon.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.
hv-vss-daemon.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.
hv-kvp-daemon.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.

After reboot, the kvp, vss and fcopy daemons should have started. All of them
are inactive (dead) instead.

root@ubuntu:~# systemctl status hv-kvp-daemon.service
? hv-kvp-daemon.service - Hyper-V KVP Protocol Daemon
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/hv-kvp-daemon.service; disabled; vendor
preset: enabled)
   Active: inactive (dead)

The solution is to start each of them manually. The bellow applies to vss and
fcopy daemons too.

root@ubuntu:~# systemctl enable hv-kvp-daemon.service
Created symlink from
/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/hv-kvp-daemon.service to
/lib/systemd/system/hv-kvp-daemon.service.

After reboot, the daemons are active.

root@ubuntu:~# systemctl status hv-kvp-daemon.service
? hv-kvp-daemon.service - Hyper-V KVP Protocol Daemon
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/hv-kvp-daemon.service; enabled; vendor
preset: enabled)
Active: active (running) since Mon 2015-08-31 15:22:49 EEST; 23s ago
 Main PID: 899 (hv_kvp_daemon)
   CGroup: /system.slice/hv-kvp-daemon.service
   +-899 /usr/lib/linux-tools/4.1.0-3-generic/hv_kvp_daemon -n

Aug 31 15:22:49 ubuntu systemd[1]: Started Hyper-V KVP Protocol Daemon.
Aug 31 15:22:49 ubuntu KVP[899]: KVP starting; pid is:899
Aug 31 15:22:49 ubuntu KVP[899]: KVP LIC Version: 3.1
