** Tags added: apport-collected jammy

** Description changed:

In settings, under multitasking > application switching, setting
"include applications from the current workspace only" is supposed to
provide workspace isolation, making only apps in the current workspace
show in the dock. For example, if I have 2 firefox windows in workspace
1, and a terminal window in workspace 2, terminal should not show as
open in the dock in workspace 1, and firefox should not show as open in
  the dock in workspace 2.

Additionally, quitting all windows from right click in the dock should
close only all windows of that app in the current workspace.

- nautilus and software and updates, do not respect it. If you switch
- workspaces with them open, the new workspace shows them as having the
- same number of open windows as the previous workspace, even though no
- windows are open in that workspace. If you quit with right click from

- open a separate window in the new workspace with right click on the
- dock, it then updates to the correct number, but the problem then
- returns on switching back to the previous workspace. If you open and
- close a window in the new workspace, then switch back to the old one, it
- is possible to get to a point where despite several windows of the app
- being open in that workspace, it shows as not open in the dock.

Public bug reported:

[Bug 1966334] Re: GLVND: Set current thread state to NULL in teardown

2022-03-30 Thread Aidan Foster
I do think it is worth mentioning that since it is a in issue that shows
up in the Vulkan CTS, it is likely that it will also show up in other
applications. It may also occur on other platforms, but the two I listed
are the only ones that I confirmed the issue is reproducing on.

[Bug 1966334] Re: GLVND: Set current thread state to NULL in teardown

2022-03-29 Thread Aidan Foster
The bug was observed running the Vulkan CTS on an Nvidia Jetson AGX Xavier
Developer Kit and on a Jetson AGX Orin Developer Kit. Running the testcase
dEQP-VK.api.object_management.alloc_callback_fail.instance without an X display
should cause the double free to occur.
I confirmed that this is a GLVND issue, as when I built libglvnd with small fix
that was merged and used it instead of the provided libs, the issue went away.

[Bug 1966334] [NEW] GLVND: Set current thread state to NULL in teardown

2022-03-24 Thread Aidan Foster
Public bug reported:

A new fix has been merged into the libglvnd repo at
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/glvnd/libglvnd

This change fixes an issue where if eglReleaseThread gets externally called
after the EGL destructor, a double free occurs due to the threadState that
eglReleaseThread checks is not null being not null despite being freed by the
destuctor.
The change makes the threadState null in the destructor to fix this.

Can this make it into the libs in 20.04 LTS?

[Bug 1941041] [NEW] Screen Orientation keeps dock in original potion, but rotates

2021-08-25 Thread Aidan William Kennedy
Public bug reported:

When orienting the screen, the dock orientates as well, but is moved to
the incorrect location and sits perpendicular to the screen edge

Normal Orientation: https://i.imgur.com/bhYOOV0.png
In this image, the dock is mounted to the bottom of the screen. Orientating
clockwise (Left side up), should move the dock to the Right side of the monitor
(Bottom after rotation). Instead, it is moved to the top of the screen (Right
after rotation).

Side Orientation (Left side of screen, Up):
https://i.imgur.com/kHGusM1.png

It's super hard to describe, but it looks as if Plank is compensating
for the orientation, while the OS has already made this compensation.

My machine does handle auto-rotation with the gyroscope.

Distro: Ubuntu Budgie 21.04
Window-Manager: Mutter(Budgie)

Video Card/Driver: Intel HD Graphics 620/intel_ish_ipc

Machine: Dell 2 in 1, Inspiron 13-7378

[Bug 1853369] Re: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"

2021-01-11 Thread Aidan Sojourner
This bug started affecting me a few weeks ago. It seems to happen
whenever a new kernel version is pushed out.

This time, what Ben did in #75 -- downgrading grub to
2.02+dfsg1-12ubuntu2.1 -- was the only thing that fixed it for me. I
cannot remember exactly what fixed it for me the first time, but I did
not have to downgrade grub - I believe installing an older kernel was
what finally fixed it.

I have a Dell XPS 15 9550, Ubuntu 20.04 installed with EFI, and a LUKS
encrypted primary drive.

[Bug 1886238] [NEW] Ubiquity does not allow skipping install modules

2020-07-03 Thread Aidan Ha
Public bug reported:

After plugins are executed (eg: username/password setup, timezone,
language, etc), ubiquity automatically calls the install modules. Plugin
developer does not have a choice to only execute the plugins and skip
the install module conditionally (perhaps using a environment variable).

An example of a suggested fix for debconf UI is attached below.
Summary of patch: conditionally skip the install module at
/usr/lib/ubiquity/ubiquity/frontend/debconf_ui.py based on an environment
variable.

[Bug 1862987] [NEW] qtbase5-private-dev does not install private headers for QtWayland

2020-02-12 Thread Aidan Harris
Public bug reported:

Trying to build QGNOMEPlatform
(https://github.com/FedoraQt/QGnomePlatform/releases) fails with the
following error message:

Project ERROR: Unknown module(s) in QT: waylandclient-private

Running `dpkg -L qtbase5-private-dev | grep -i wayland` shows nothing,
running `apt-file search /usr/include/x86_64-linux-
gnu/qt5/QtWaylandClient/5.12.5/QtWaylandClient/private` also returns
nothing.

I also tried installing qtbase5-private-dev in a Debian container and
they have the same issue so it may be worth notifying them if you fix
this.

[Bug 1808266] Re: Docker daemon drops all bound ports, recovers them after long docker ps

2018-12-12 Thread Aidan Hunt
Thanks for taking a look, Tianon. You're right that Docker appears to be
behaving normally... running journalctl -b I see that the system did in
fact reboot causing the Docker shutdown, and that it came back online at
19:29:45 with multiuser system target being reached at 19:30:04.

So my issue is with why it took systemd so long after bootup to start
dockerd, not with Docker itself... apologies for not checking that out
first. I'm guessing that there is something in the CLI that told systemd
to start it when I ran docker ps?

[Bug 1808266] [NEW] Docker daemon drops all bound ports, recovers them after long docker ps

2018-12-12 Thread Aidan Hunt
Public bug reported:

This event ocourred on a single-node Docker.io version
18.06.1-0ubuntu1~18.04.1, Docker version Docker version 18.06.1-ce,
build e68fc7a, Ubuntu version 18.04.1 LTS, kernel Linux
4.15.0-42-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Thu Nov 15 19:32:57 UTC 2018 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

At 2018-12-12 19:30:04, our uptime monitor detected that all sites
hosted in Docker containers, with ports exposed to the outside world,
were down. Upon investigation, netstat showed that docker did not have
any ports open, and ip addr showed that docker had no network
interfaces.

Finally, after various troubleshooting attempts, I ran "docker ps" at
the command prompt. The ps command, which normally returns instantly,
produces no output and hung. I hit ^C and re-ran the command. After a
few seconds, the command returned that all containers which should have
been running were running. Netstat and ip addr showed normal Docker
network configuration, and all containers sprung back to life with
normal functionality. I suspect this means that the docker daemon hung,
and docker ps somehow returned it to its normal state.

Unfortunately debug mode wasn't on, and I have been unable to reproduce.
I've enabled it and will update back if it recurs. I've attached the
journalctl (truncated to start at 1900 hours) and the stack tract
manually generated with a SIGUSR1 after everything went back to normal.

[Bug 966734] Re: nfs4+idmap does not map uids correctly when using AUTH_SYS

2018-11-15 Thread Aidan Walton
Having just spent several days trying to get to the root cause of this
id-mapping issue I am strongly inclined to agree with Ancoron regarding the
forced usage of UID & GID with AUTH_SYS.
I have exactly the issue he describes. This is a small home setup and I do not
have nor do I desire to set-up and configure a Kerberos infrastructure. I have
3 OSs running. Linux OSX and Windows. The Windows client is a corner case where
I am forced to make it emulate a server side UID & GID as it lacks NFSv4
anyway. However the OSX machines and Linux machines where set-up a different
times. They have different UID & GIDs for the same named user. I made the move
to NFS4 as I was under the impression that id-mapping would allow a setup where
the UIDs & GIDs of these machines could stay different to those on the server
and by running id-mapping all client requests would contain the string based
names to enable the server to map these incoming request to a local UID & GID.
No such luck.

Having watched carefully the exchanges on the wire I would suggest that
the current implementation is neither working nor consistent in this
scenario.

If id-mapping is configured on the server
/sys/module/nfsd/parameters/nfs4_disable_idmapping = 0 and the same is also
configured on the client in : /sys/module/nfs/parameters/nfs4_disable_idmapping
= 0
The client sends all its request only ever using UID & GID in the RPC header.
The NFS4 Attr mask Owner and Owner_Group are always blank.
However replies from the server to these same requests always have these NFS4
attr containing the mapped strings. The client honours this and maps correctly
to the required client side UID & GID using a call to nfsidmap, which
subsequently call nsswitch:
nfs4_name_to_gid: nsswitch->name_to_gid returned 0

So essentially we have one way mapping, working correctly from Server to
Client, but not available from Client to Server.

I can understand that there may well be security implications for a
simple mapping scenario, but to be blunt, who cares! these are my
machines and my network, its not large and I'm not paranoid. If I was
truly worried about security then I would implement Kerberos, but I am
not.

However due to the fact that the client does not offer NFS4 attr as the
string name, the server can never perform the same mapping in the client
to server direction.

This forces either matching UID & GID on all clients and server, or
separate UID & potentially GIDs on each machine, or use of all_squash
in the export to crunch all client to server requests into one user or
still further per client IP address based exports with different
all_squash options. All of these are sub-optimal.

I would be interested to know if anyone is familiar enough with the RFCs
to know whether the use of AUTH_SYS within the RPC header specifically
precludes the use of id-mapping by the server for incoming requests. If
this is not strictly forbidden then why could the use of AUTH_SYS with
string based NFS4 attr not be a perfectly valid possibility. IMHO it
would offer flexibility better than what is currently available and much
simpler for the home or less security concerned user.

Public bug reported:

As of July 19, 2018 the following bug fix was merged in upstream:
https://github.com/docker/docker-credential-helpers/pull/29

The code being shipped by Ubuntu (bionic) now calls the wrong free
function which produces errors on every docker build while this package
is installed. Since Ubuntu makes this a dependency of docker-compose it
is on a lot of Ubuntu servers right now and there have been a number of
GitHub issues on upstreams trying to track it down.

[Bug 1718590] Re: Atom installed as a snap doesn't show up in menus or in the terminal

2017-11-20 Thread Aidan Stein
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1681547 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1681547

The issue might be with your login shell - XDG_DATA_DIRS (which is what
was fixed in snapd 2.28) is set when /etc/profile is sourced. If you
don't source /etc/profile, such as for zsh (the shell I am using) or
fish, then XDG_DATA_DIRS is never set and the .desktop files in
/var/lib/snapd/desktop won't be found.

[Bug 1639337] Re: Ubuntu 16.10 Abs_pressure not reported from kernel evdev to xserver-xorg-evdev

2016-12-09 Thread Aidan Walton
I forget to mention vasdi I did downgrade to xserver-xorg-input-
evdev_2.10.1-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb and indeed it solved the problem.

Although I'm sure you will agree, an upgrade is preferable, so no doubt this
needs to be addressed in the official Ubuntu repos.
Thanks

Re: [Bug 1639337] Re: Ubuntu 16.10 Abs_pressure not reported from kernel evdev to xserver-xorg-evdev

2016-11-12 Thread Aidan Walton
Well, thats interesting. Did you have dependency issues when you
installed this .deb?
It would be good if you shared your findings, perhaps directly with
Peter Hutterer, he maintains the libevdev code within xorg. Follow the
link I posted initially to the freedesktop bug report.

However I don't like much the idea of installing this package:
Breaks: xserver-xorg-core (<< 2:1.18.0-1)
Replaces: xserver-xorg-core (<< 2:1.18.0-1)

Hmmm, no thanks.

Did this go smoothly for you?

[Bug 1639337] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.10 Abs_pressure not reported from kernel evdev to xserver-xorg-evdev

2016-11-04 Thread Aidan Walton
Public bug reported:

Please refer to bug filed with freedesktop.org:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98575

I modified a driver for the Bosto Tablet 22HD and others, this has been
working without problems across the last several releases and continues
to work with 16.04.1 LTS.

When I upgraded to 16.10, pressure readings are lost from all
applications, X & Y data still visible.

evtest shows correct EV_ data for ABS_X ABS_Y and ABS_PRESSURE, but when
xinput is used.

xinput --list --long

The Valuator for pressure is listed, but no changes occur as the tool is
used. The parameters of the Valuator can still be modified using xinput
tweaking tools, but no pressure reported.

All X apps requiring pressure data fail.

I made a fresh install of 16.10, loaded the driver same issue.

I run 16.04.1 LTS, everything fine.
I have others users of my driver code also using 16.04.1 without issue.

[Bug 1611583] [NEW] Trackpad isn't recognized by kernel

2016-08-09 Thread Aidan Hodge
Public bug reported:

I just got an ASUS F556UA-AS54 laptop and of course I immediately
deleted windows and installed ubuntu ;). Everything works fine, except
that the trackpad doesn't seem to be recognized properly. I am certain
that I have the bug on this page:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection#In_case_Touchpad_features_like_scrolling.2C_tapping.2C_etc._do_not_work_at_all.

It works for basic functions (clicking, tracking), but I can't scroll or
do other things a trackpad should do. And, just like the page said, the
options for my trackpad are missing in the mouse and touchpad settings.
It's just the single page for the mouse. I've attached the three files
that the page asked for. Thanks in advance for any help!

[Bug 1596397] [NEW] When restarting from sleep, the Wi-Fi widget doesn't display the correct access point

2016-06-26 Thread Aidan Fitzgerald
Public bug reported:

Normally, the access point I usually connect to shows up in the Wi-Fi
menu. However, when rebooting from sleep, this Wi-Fi network isn't shown
on the menu, even after disabling and re-enabling Wi-Fi or disabling and
re-enabling networking. When I restart the computer, the Wi-Fi network I
want shows up again.

2016-02-16 Thread Aidan Smoker
Public bug reported:

Dash does not display anything in the 'photos' section even though there
are images in the standard location in the user home folder and it shows
icons for pictures in other sections like 'home' and 'applications'.

To replicate:

1. Log in as user
2. Click canonical 'dash' logo in side bar
3. Dash opens
4. Icons present as expected in 'home', 'files', etc. sections as expected
4. Click photo section icon on dash interface
5. should show images from /home/user/pictures
6. Nothing displayed

[Bug 27944] Re: [Dapper] Automatic podcast update doesn't work

2015-10-06 Thread Aidan Samuel
This issue is affecting me in Rhythmbox 3.0.2 on 14.04 LTS.

I have two podcasts, both served by iTunes, (so m4a format). Automatic
podcast updates are enabled and set to hourly, but they never update.

If I go to the list of podcasts, 'All 2 (2)' will be selected. If i
click the 'update' button, I expect that all podcasts will be updated
but again nothing happens.

Right click > "Update all feeds" also does not work.

I have to select each podcast individually, and manually force update
each one before it will find new podcasts.

[Bug 1448912] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference (aa_label_merge)

2015-07-22 Thread Aidan Hobson Sayers
Not sure if this is the same issue or not, my null pointer is *not* in
aa_label_merge - BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference
(aa_file_perm).

It does have some significant similarities in the trace though. I've had
this on 14.04 kernel 3.16 and 15.04 kernel 3.19.

[Bug 1476088] [NEW] Rhythmbox can't resume play on (m4a) podcast

2015-07-19 Thread Aidan Samuel
Public bug reported:

I'm subscribed to a number of podcasts that are hosted and served by
Apple iTunes. As such, the file format is m4a, which may be the root of
this problem.

Once the podcast is playing, I'll pause playback using either the
controls that appear when clicking the volume control in the Unity
system tray, or by just using the regular playback controls in
Rhythmbox.

To resume playback I press the play button, but play does not resume. I
must move the scrubber to a new location before playback will resume.

[Bug 1410542] Re: error: '__sl_mb05nd__' undefined near line 30 column 20

2015-01-13 Thread Aidan Macdonald
I fixed it. The step function worked on my server which runs Trusty. I
looked at the difference in files, and found that using a file from an
older version of octave-control worked.

Specifically, my server had the following

aidan@aidan-server:~$ dpkg -l | grep octave-control
ii octave-control 2.6.2-1build1
amd64control functions for Octave from Octave-Forge

Comparing the /usr/share/octave/packages/control-2.6.2/@ss/__c2d__.m
file from my server (attached) with the
/usr/share/octave/packages/control-2.6.5/@ss/__c2d__.m file from my
machine

$ diff files
23c23
 ## Version: 0.5
---
 ## Version: 0.4
30,31c30,34
   [sys.a, tmp] = __sl_mb05nd__ (sys.a, tsam, eps);
   sys.b = tmp * sys.b; # G
---
   [n, m] = size (sys.b); # n: states, m: inputs
   ## TODO: use SLICOT MB05OD
   tmp = expm ([sys.a*tsam, sys.b*tsam; zeros(m, n+m)]);
   sys.a = tmp (1:n, 1:n);  # F
   sys.b = tmp (1:n, n+(1:m));  # G

Noticing that the older version did not have the offending line, I simply
copied the old version over into my system

sudo cp ./__c2d__.m.old
/usr/share/octave/packages/control-2.6.5/@ss/__c2d__.m

And voila! It worked. Enjoy

[Bug 1403184] [NEW] warning: autoload: '__control_slicot_functions__.oct' is not an absolute file name

2014-12-16 Thread Aidan Macdonald
Public bug reported:

I get an error in when I run octave
warning: autoload: '__control_slicot_functions__.oct' is not an absolute
file name

## System Information
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.10
Release:14.10
$ apt-cache policy octave-control
octave-control:
  Installed: 2.6.5-1
  Candidate: 2.6.5-1
  Version table:
 *** 2.6.5-1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ utopic/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

## Attempts to solve
I believe there is a file missing in the package. I tried updating and
re-installing octave-control via

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --reinstall octave-control

But the error remained, so I looked in the files listed in the package,
and I noticed that there is a difference between the Trusty list and
Utopic

http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/amd64/octave-control/filelist
http://packages.ubuntu.com/utopic/amd64/octave-control/filelist

Utopic is missing the file
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/octave/packages/control-2.6.2/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-api-v49+/__control_slicot_functions__.oct

I don't know how to patch it or anything, but the following commands solved the
problem for me. If someone would link me to an explanation of how to patch,
etc. I will submit proper patches in the future.

## Solution
wget
http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/universe/o/octave-control/octave-control_2.6.2-1build1_amd64.deb
dpkg -x octave-control_2.6.2-1build1_amd64.deb ./
sudo cp
usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/octave/packages/control-2.6.2/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-api-v49+/__control_slicot_functions__.oct

[Bug 1211107] [NEW] network manager openvpn dns push data not updating resolv.conf

2013-08-11 Thread Aidan Walton
Public bug reported:

When IPv4 Method is set to Automatic VPN, DNS address recieved from
OpenVPN server do not update resolv.conf.

This can be achieved when using a standard openvpn config file by adding
the lines:

script-security 2
up /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf
down /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf

In Network-manager there seems to be no option to run connection
specific scripts and the DNS data from the server is ignored.

[Bug 772823] [NEW] Plus symbol is lost from queries on database change

2011-04-28 Thread Aidan Furlan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: phppgadmin

To reproduce:
Click SQL to get popup SQL window
Enter a query with a plus symbol in it (eg SELECT 1+col FROM table)
Change to a different database using the database dropdown
The page refreshes, while attempting to maintaining the query. However, the
plus symbol has disappeared.

I can see the query is submitted via a GET variable when changing
databases, which results in a plus being converted to a space. Should be
fixable by using urlencode/urldecode to encode the query, or submitting
via POST instead of GET.

Mounted / on /mnt using busybox, chrooted /mnt, started /bin/bash and
then did update-initramfs -a -k latest installed kernel which fixed
it.

but SEEESH. Really? REALLY? This should be a can't-happen kind of
scenario, or at least a this is easy to recover from. Not drop to

lucid box used to be able to mount it, upgraded to maverick with same
fstab times out:

Other reports at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1600327

Nothing in dmesg, nothing in /var/log, no other network changes to

Annoyingly, this works occasionally with the time honoured Turning It

cause it to fail.

So maybe some sort of state initialisation going wrong?

This doesn't happen, X bails complaining it can't detect any outputs,
making for extreme sadness when you want to use this machine with just a
TV. :'(

[Bug 600908] Re: Spurious error during authorization

2010-07-08 Thread Aidan Furlan
Here is another user who experienced the same issue:

http://www.mail-archive.com/bacula-
us...@lists.sourceforge.net/msg17051.html

Like me this user found that passwords were not the problem, it was a
misconfiguration at the networking level causing this error.

The simple fix would be to update the error message to reflect the fact
that networking issues as well as wrong passwords can throw this error.
Alternatively, testing for a connection between the SD and FD in
authenticate.c prior to the cram_md5 tests would allow a distinction
between the two.

[Bug 600908] Re: Spurious error during authorization

2010-07-05 Thread Aidan Furlan
I understand that port 9103 being blocked is a setup issue. What I'm
suggesting as a bug is the error message Authorization key rejected by
Storage daemon when no data is transmitted between the File Daemon and
the Storage Daemon. This message was misleading in this case because the
authorization key was not actually being rejected.

[Bug 600908] [NEW] Spurious error during authorization

2010-07-01 Thread Aidan Furlan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bacula

I recently changed my bacula setup and got the following after running a
job:

01-Jul 22:10 simba-fd JobId 76: Fatal error: Authorization key rejected by
Storage daemon.
Please see http://www.bacula.org/rel-manual/faq.html#AuthorizationErrors for
help.
01-Jul 22:10 simba-fd JobId 76: Fatal error: Failed to authenticate Storage
daemon.

I read the FAQ and checked and re-checked all the passwords in all conf
files and could not find the issue. I then discovered it was not a
password issue at all but a firewall issue - the File Daemon couldn't
send data to the Storage Daemon which was being interpreted as a
authorization key rejection. When I opened port 9103 to the Storage
Daemon, it immediately started working.
